Abstract:
There is no choice for a person being born in a family. Currently, the situation of family poverty is getting serious. Lots of low-income population is children stuck in poverty. The weakness of family economy results in the bad development, e.g. low social economy, poverty, cultural capital, and family structure disadvantage, to affect children not receiving sufficient family resources in the enlightenment stage and being the inheritors of inter-generation poverty. Poverty gap drives clearer social stratification, and the adverse nature environment becomes a secret concern in children’ future development. Aiming at poor families in Hubei, as the questionnaire analysis objects, 280 copies of questionnaire are distributed, and 214 valid copies are retrieved, with the retrieval rate 76%. The research results are summarized as below: Top five indicators, among 22, are sequenced in-kind subsidy, visit care, self-help groups, community activity, and sponsorship for education; Overall speaking, poor families receiving social welfare service show the highest satisfaction with financial subsidy; besides, sponsorship system is correlated with financial subsidy that poor families are satisfied with sponsorship system; Psychological behaviors involve in individual single parents and the children. Under the emphasis of single parents on the children and the support for single parents’ personal emotions, single parents are obviously satisfied with psychological behavior service. According to the results to propose suggestions, it is expected to benefit the government promoting various social welfare services to fully take care of public welfare and promote people’s quality of life.

Abstract:
This article investigates the concept of literacy sponsorship through the introduction of textile factories and mill villages in New England during the American Industrial Revolution. Specifically, the article focuses on Samuel Slater’s mill villages and his disciplining and socialization of workers via the ‘family’ approach to factory production, and, in particular, his support of the Sunday school. As an institution key to managerial control and new to rural New England, the Sunday school captures the complicated networks of moral and literacy sponsorship in the transition to factory production.

Abstract:
Background and Objectives: Coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring are tools academic leaders can utilize to develop junior faculty. Each tool has a unique goal, time frame and method. It has been suggested that sponsoring may be a particularly useful tool for furthering the careers of women in medicine. Our primary aim was to understand to what extent one group of academic leaders—family medicine department chairs—have benefited from each tool in their own career development and how often they use each to develop others. A secondary aim was to compare women’s experiences with sponsorship to their male colleagues. Methods: We surveyed all US family medicine department chairs electronically about their experiences with coaching, mentoring, and sponsoring. We collected data from August 2019 to October 2019. Results: One hundred five of 193 family medicine department chairs responded to our survey (54.4% response rate). Most indicated that mentoring played a significant role in their career development, with fewer reporting coaching and sponsorship played significant roles. More reported frequent use of mentoring to develop faculty compared to coaching or sponsoring. Training in mentoring and sponsoring was associated with increased use, but coaching was not. No gender difference was found in this study population. Conclusions: Chairs have less experience with coaching and sponsoring than mentoring. Personal experience being coached, mentored, or sponsored was associated with increased use of these tools. Formal training may increase use of mentoring and sponsoring. Contrary to our hypothesis, female chairs’ experience with sponsoring was similar to their male peers.

Abstract:
Abstract in English: In the article 46, the Algerian Family Code stipulates the following: "Adoption is prohibited by both the Sharia and Law". Therefore, it is clearly understood that the interdiction of adoption doesn’t contradict the Islamic law (Sharia). But due - on one hand - to the confusion in Algerian society with regard to the conception of adoption with all its consequences, and on the other hand the difficult situation of many abandoned children and the suffering of many families who are not blessed with the fertility or the capacity of reproduction, the Algerian legislature has been forced to find solutions to such difficult cases. Therefore, a child support legislation (guardianship or sponsorship) has been established under the following Articles 116 and 125 of the Family Code. The study was based on the Algerian laws on the issue of the termination of child sponsorship and applied by the Algerian judiciary. The problem of the study is to know the cases of termination of child sponsorship in the Algerian family law, and the position of the Algerian judiciary on this issue. This study aims to mention the cases in which the sponsorship of the child ends in the Algerian family law, and to discuss some of the Algerian judicial decisions issued by the Supreme Court, related to the subject of the study in question. The study relied on the analytical method, in order to analyze legal texts and discuss judicial decisions. The study concluded that the Algerian family law stipulated some cases in which the sponsorship of the child ends, and neglected to mention other cases. Abstract:
Abstract This study examines godparent selection patterns by the parents of 632 slaves baptized in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, from 1735 to 1772. The article broadens our understanding of baptismal sponsorship by using family reconstitution to re-create demographic patterns of behavior, including age and marital status, associated with godparenthood. Data regarding the godparents revealed considerable diversity in age, but most were under the age of 30. Godparents generally sponsored only one child of a slave parent or parents. There is a correlation between baptismal sponsorship and marriage. Godparents, especially women, often married within three years of the first time they were selected as baptismal sponsors. Serving as a godparent for a child born to at least one slave parent prepared adolescents for adult responsibilities. In agreeing to accept the spiritual and moral obligations associated with godparenthood, females demonstrated the ability to parent children, whereas males asserted their readiness to provide for a family.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Residency training occurs in varied settings. Whether there are differences in the training received by graduates of community- or medical school–based programs has been the subject of debate. Objective This study examined the perceived preparation for practice, scope of practice, and American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) board examination pass rates of family physicians in relation to the type of residency program (community, medical school, or partnership) in which they trained. Methods Predetermined survey responses were abstracted from the 2016 and 2017 National Family Medicine Graduate Survey of ABFM and linked to data about residency programs obtained from the websites of national organizations. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data and logistic regression to examine differences between survey results based on type of residency training: community, medical school, or partnership. Results Differences in the perception of preparation as well as current scope of practice were noted for the 3 residency types. The differences in perception were mainly noted in hospital-based skills, such as intubation and ventilator management, and in women's health and family planning services, with different program types increasing preparedness perception in different domains. Conclusions In general, graduates of family medicine community-based, non-affiliated, and partnership programs perceived they were prepared for and were providing more of the services queried in the survey than graduates of medical school–based programs.

Abstract:
This article reviews the evidence pertaining to the extent to which U.S. immigrants actually make use of the family reunification entitlements of United States immigration laws, examining the two available studies which are based on probability samples of immigrant entry cohorts. It then provides new estimates of the characteristics of the U.S. citizen sponsors of immigrant spouses and parents. The first study examined, the 1986 Jasso-Rosenzweig study of the FY 1971 immigrant cohort, suggests that the multiplier — the total number of immigrants brought in by one original immigrant — is far less than its potential size but is not trivial. The 1988 General Accounting Office (GAO) report based on the FY 1985 immigrant cohort indicates that 1) the propensity to sponsor new immigrants is substantially higher for immigrants than for native born citizens and that 2) immigrant sponsors of new immigrants tend to petition as soon as they are able to do so according to the law. With respect to the characteristics of sponsors, analysis of the information in the GAO report indicates that 80 percent of the persons who immigrated in FY 1985 as the spouses of U.S. citizens were sponsored by native born U.S. citizens. In contrast, native born U.S. citizens sponsored only five percent of the parent immigrants. Additional findings on the country of origin and sex of the sponsored immigrants are presented.

Abstract:
This paper aims to present an analysis of the dynamics of demographic, social and economic structures in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande de São Pedro, in its formative period (from 1772 to 1800). The main sources consulted were of confessed sterols, neighborhood relations, maps of production and population, and books of marriage and baptism. In the first three chapters of this dissertation, the population characteristics and its modifications, the differences between urban and rural areas and the distribution of slaveholding are analyzed. In the fourth and fifth chapters present the study of the local agrarian structure, family networks and farmers’ strategies. In the last two chapters the family and crony slave are discussed. The central argument supported is that Porto Alegre, in its first decades of existence, showed strong dependence on slavery. The parish has experienced a significant growth of population due largely to the increase in the number of captives. Its urbanized core showed up quite developed, concentrating most population, including slaves. There were many captives and they were distributed in small farms. The agrarian frontier was closed and there is strong evidence pointing a process of social differentiation among farmers. In assessing the conditions under which emerged slave families, it was found that the productive activity of the master, the size of the possession of captive and the origin of the slaves, are important factors to be considered. Meanwhile, the choice of godparents experienced a profound transformation over the period, a process which focused on changes in the structure of slave ownership, changes in the dynamics of trafficking, as well as the limits and possibilities posed by social networks manor. The economy and society of Porto Alegre, in its first decades of existence, can indeed be classified as slavery.

Bahk, Sarom. "Exploring Perceptions of Cultural Difference in IRB Family Sponsorship Decisions." Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1807/30173.

Abstract:
This thesis analyzes the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB)’s treatment of culture in recent family sponsorship decisions. Drawing upon theories of cultural difference, identity construction, and Critical Race Theory, it examines IRB decision-makers’ assessments of cultural factors and their influence on the evaluation of parties’ credibility. This thesis argues that appellants and applicants before the Immigration Appeal Division often had to demonstrate that their family class relationships were “performed” in accordance with the norms of their culture. Many IRB Members relied on essentialist conceptions of culture, and thus generated problematic images of both cultural minorities and Canadian society. Further, the identity of parties was often constructed in terms of defined categories such as ethnic background, religion, marital status, age, and disability. In conclusion, this thesis offers reflections on how issues of cultural identity can be more fairly and sensitively addressed by administrative tribunals such as the IRB.

Silva, Sávio Renato Bittencourt Soares. "O apadrinhamento civil e sua efetividade como forma de acolhimento de crianças e jovens." Master's thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/1822/74199.

Abstract:
After more than ten years after the edition of Law No. 103/09, of September 11, which instituted the legal regime of civil sponsorship, it is essential to verify the fulfillment of the objectives of this legal norm, namely its ability to present an effective alternative to institutionalization of children and youth. To this end, a re-reading of its rules was performed, with a critical analysis of the legal model created to embody the institute of civil sponsorship. In order to create the basis for the assessment of this legal regime and to be able to extract indicators for its effectiveness as a means of avoiding institutionalization, the right to family life of children and young people, the legal-social context that preceded the creation of the law of civil sponsorship and the fundamental aspects of parental responsibility. From these assumptions, the legal regime of civil sponsorship was interpreted in its details, with special emphasis on the rights and duties that are attributed to the sponsors and parents of the child or young godson. As the adoption institute has a relationship of civil patronage with complementarity, as determined by the law, it deserved an analysis of its most important characteristics in order to provide the necessary distinctions. In addition, along with this legal study, the numbers that express the occurrence of civil sponsorship in Portugal were brought to the realization of its impact on the universe of institutionalization, proving that its dimension is absolutely incipient. The official data show the small cases of civil sponsorship as a way of reversing the institutionalization, which do not reach 1% of cases of child and youth leaving the host. In conclusion, despite the fact that academic and scientific scrutiny of other causes of the institute's failure is possible, the legal regime established for civil sponsorship, with the necessary coexistence between godparents and the godson's family of origin - which has been overrun with excessive rights - can be indicated as one of the discouraging factors for the constitution of this bond by Portuguese families.

Abstract:
Institutionalization of children has to be the last resort. It is the right of a child to a family or in the alternative to family type non-institutional services, such as adoption, foster care, and sponsorship. This chapter commences with tracing the evolution of adoption in history, mythology, and religion. It critically examines Indian adoption laws, such as the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890, the Provisions in the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and the CARA guidelines and Procedures, 2015. Select judgements of the courts in India on adoption and surrogacy is also included. Surrogacy Regulation Bill, 2016 is discussed. International law, instruments, and protocols relating to adoption and surrogacy in some other countries are dealt with. It suggests law reform in the areas of adoption and surrogacy. A brief description of non-governmental organizations, government initiatives, programmes, and schemes dealing with non-institutional services are included.

Abstract:
This chapter shows that the Grotton–St. Ange family was the most important political and military family in Upper Louisiana for the half century between 1720 and 1770. Louis St. Ange de Bellerive first came to prominence under the sponsorship of his father, Robert Grotton St. Ange. Shortly after Robert Grotton St. Ange's marriage to his second wife, Élisabeth Chorel, in 1718, the couple and Robert's two sons by his first wife, Pierre and Louis, headed west to establish the St. Anges as a leading family in the Illinois Country. This chapter traces the history of the Grotton–St. Ange family in the Illinois Country and looks at the expeditions of Étienne Veniard de Bourgmont, the first white man to ascend the Missouri River valley in 1714 and the one who built Fort d'Orléans. It also considers the presence of the St. Ange family at Fort d'Orléans, where Louis St. Ange de Bellerive replaced Robert Grotton St. Ange as commandant.

Chapter 2 provides a narrative account of Vincent de Paul’s activities between 1612 and 1617. It concentrates on new connections with prominent dévots in Paris, whose sponsorship provided him with opportunities for material stability and for the expansion of his rather limited pastoral experience. These included his patron employers, the high noble Gondi family, and Pierre de Bérulle, founder of the French Oratory, and founding figure of the French School of Spirituality. The appointments that resulted from these contacts were a preceptorship in the Gondi household, followed by a role as spiritual director to Madame de Gondi, and two sojourns as curé of the parishes of Clichy and Châtillon-lès-Dombes.

Abstract:
This chapter assesses the promise of intimacy by exploring the intersection of kin-like relations and racial ideologies in the 1950s and 1960s. It focuses on mainline Protestant Christian Children's Fund (CCF), founded in 1938 and the largest organization of its type at the time, along with two of its evangelical competitors, World Vision and Compassion, founded in 1950 and 1952, respectively. These organizations are exemplary of a major shift in twentieth-century sponsorship from emergency relief into a form of permanent fundraising. The chapter then considers the role of race in sponsorship's promise of kin-like relations. Unlike their First World War antecedents, which principally focused on white children in need of wartime relief, mid-century sponsorship organizations solidified a pattern that continues today: the presumed white sponsor of the non-white child. The chapter also studies how organizations shaped children's letter-writing and the dynamics of U.S. family life in which the letters played a part.

Abstract:
This chapter explores shock imagery in late nineteenth-century missions and the First World War. When war struck, relief organizations proliferated on a scale that far outstripped previous humanitarian interventions. Among the tools they mobilized was sponsorship. The chapter discusses two programs: Near East Relief (NER) and Fatherless Children of France (FCF). Like many equivalent organizations, they operated out of New York City, were non-sectarian, and championed by elite donors. The chapter then focuses on new visual media, especially photography, that bolstered U.S. Christians' ability to incorporate absent/present children into the intimate spaces of family life, while honing a god's eye view of the world. It considers this visual media together with visceral (embodied) techniques as collaborative tools in emergency relief.

Abstract:
Patronage of the arts and the sponsorship of events that attracted public attention were essential tools for the Roman elite to negotiate their position within the complex social and political structure of the city. This chapter introduces Lorenzo Onofrio Colonna, Maria Mancini, and their cultural milieu in Rome. Their palace in piazza Santi Apostoli became the stage for their support of conversazioni, music-making, and intellectual gatherings. The palace and its collections of paintings, antiquities, arts, and the cycle of frescoes that began to be executed during Lorenzo Onofrio’s life were also essential elements of their self-fashioning and family myth-making.

Abstract:
A program has been initiated under the sponsorship of the Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Industrial Technology, to improve the performance of stationary gas turbines in cogeneration through the selective replacement of metallic hot section parts with uncooled ceramic components. It is envisioned that the successful demonstration of ceramic gas turbine technology, and the systematic incorporation of ceramics in existing and future gas turbines will enable more efficient engine operation, resulting in significant fuel savings, increased output power, and reduced emissions. The program which started in September, 1992, takes an engine of the Solar Centaur family of industrial gas turbines, and modifies the design of the hot section to accept ceramic first stage blades and first stage nozzles, and a ceramic combustor liner. The ceramic materials selected for the blade are silicon nitride, for the nozzle silicon nitride and silicon carbide, and for the combustor liner silicon carbide as well as two continuous fiber reinforced ceramic composites, one with a silicon carbide matrix and another with an oxide matrix. This paper outlines the approach, conceptual component design, and materials selection for the program.

Abstract:
The application of distributed control systems to turbine engine controls offers the potential for major reductions in development time and costs for the engine control and the engine. Once the data bus and power bus are standardized for elements of a distributed control system, the industry will have a group of sensors, actuators, and controllers that could be interchangeable between applications. Software and hardware will still require modification to fit the specific application, however, great strides will have been made toward a “plug and play” capability between sensors, actuators, and controllers all tied together on the same data bus. The main controller in a distributed control system, except for software, would be interchangeable from engine to engine. This paper describes the design and development of the electronics for a smart actuator and discusses the design considerations which were used to guide the requirements. Requirements unique to turbine engine applications include temperature environments to 30° C, a severe vibration environment, minimum size and weight, and very high reliability. The electronics developed for the smart actuator were packaged on credit card sized printed wiring board modules. Two of these modules were packaged in a housing approximately 23×3.4×1.1 inches. The electronics operate from 28 volt DC power and communicate with the rest of the control system via the MEL-STD-1553B data bus. Although a hydraulic actuator was chosen as the demonstration vehicle, the electronic module is adaptable to any servo application and can be expanded to read any of the common engine sensors and operate solenoids. The chosen actuator was intended as a development tool to expose the design problems of distributed systems. Therefore, this first demonstration unit was designed using electronic components rated for 125° C operation. AlliedSignal is currently a member of a consortium of companies under DARPA sponsorship developing a family of SOI (silicon-on-insulator) integrated circuits rated for 200° C operation. Our current 125° C design is compatible with the new devices being developed. A 200° C unit is planned for 1998. Further improvements in the metalization used in the SOI devices will allow reliable long term operation to about 300° C. Devices for this higher temperature range are expected to be available in 1999.

Abstract:
Aero-derivative gas turbines have been successfully serving the power generation, mechanical drive, and marine markets for 40 years. These products are well suited for distributed generation, with sizes in the range from 3 MW to 50+ MW. The Rolls-Royce group of companies provide vertical integration for aero-derivative based energy systems, having marketing, sales, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, and customer service capabilities. The 3– 6 MW, 501-K family serves power generation and cogeneration applications. The new 6–8 MW 601 is used for cogeneration and mechanical drive. The 15 MW Avon is widely applied to mechanical drives, offering exceptional reliability and low life cycle cost. The RB211 provides over 30 MW at high efficiency, and is used in mechanical drive and electrical generation. The 42% efficient, 50 MW, Trent is primarily intended for electrical generation. This engine retains a higher than usual degree of commonality with aero production modules, thus retaining the cost advantage of high volume production and benefits from continuous improvements in aero engines. Plans: Cost reduction of mature existing products will be achieved by “industrialization”, e.g. by alloy changes and shape simplification, of parts no longer in aero production. Better integrated packaging and “more electric aircraft” features are rapidly becoming a necessity in the competitive marketplace. The trend is toward minimizing and possibly eliminating mechanical drives and other components in a gas turbine to improve product quality, efficiency, reduce product cost, while enhancing product quality and the environment. In this regard, the approach being taken near term is to substitute normal oil bearings with Active Magnetic Bearings. Such an action would help eliminate high cost skid lubrication system components and some environmental hazards as well as reducing maintenance. Several programs will make contributions to environmental improvements through reduced emissions and the use of “renewable” fuels. A prototype 501-K has been supplied to operate on gasified coal, a reduced emissions path to generating electricity from coal. A dual fuel DLE combustion system for very high pressure ratio and turbine temperature is in development for the Trent, having downward compatibility with other company products. The Next Generation Gas Turbine (NGGT) project, sponsored by the US Department of Energy, will use an existing engine core. Advanced modules, including a long life “spiral” recuperator and cycle enhancements combine to yield 50% cycle efficiency at a reduced cost per kW. The goal is to produce a 50 MW class plant with “combined cycle efficiency at simple cycle cost.” The NGGT is suited to using alternate fuel for part of the energy input. Following evaluation of fuel cell/gas turbine hybrids, a specially suited gas turbine development is being initiated with sponsorship by the U.S. Department of Energy. The company is also conducting a solid oxide fuel cell program. An auxiliary power unit(APU) was developed and is now in production for the M1 tank. A “microturbine” derivative of this product is being considered for distributed generation.
