Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze a prominent 19th century Tatar scholar Rizaeddin Fakhreddin’s two voluminous biographic works – the printed book “Mashkhur Khatynnar” (“Famous Women”), published in 1904 in Orenburg, as well as a manuscript version of the same book written in 1934. The second book is more extensive in its content than the first version; it has extended due to Tatar women’s added biographies, mainly contemporaries of the author. The study examines the printed book structure and reveals the features and remarkable aspects of one or another of its sections. “Mashkhur Khatynnar” (“Famous Women”) is a serious and multifaceted biographic composition of encyclopedic format. In compiling it, the author used materials from Ibn al-Jawzi, at-Tabari, Aristotle, A. Schopenhauer, and other famous luminaries of world science of a diverse thematic spectrum, including history, geography, natural sciences, philosophy, linguistics, etc. In the book, especially in the preface part, the female question is sharply discussed. The author focuses on the issue of providing women with full education and upbringing in the best Muslim traditions. This work is unique because neither before Fakhreddin nor after him, similar works on biographies of women known in the Islamic world has not written in the Tatar world.

Abstract The Flemish writer Herman Brusselmans is the most famous author of the Low Countries. In this article, Herman Brusselmans is analysed as a star author. First and foremost, two striking aspects of Brusselmans’s stardom are analysed: his public visibility and the cult of the private. Attention is then focused on Brusselmans’s experience of celebrity, which he - like many other star authors - thematises in his books. Doing so, he consciously places himself in the context of popular culture. On the other hand, as a result of his celebrity status he has been expected - particularly in the last few years - to assume the role of public intellectual willy-nilly, and this in turn has had consequences for his work.

Abstract:
This study is devoted to the investigation of the narrator’s typology in the modern German-language travel novel, in particular the first-person narrative. The range of unresolved problems in the typology of the narrator is outlined, namely the expediency of studying the author’s image in a travel novel. On the example of the work of the famous German writer-traveler and reporter A. Altmann, the author's position is analyzed and the author's intentions are established. Peculiarities of the formation of modern wandering novel prose determine a high degree of autobiography in the work. Using the "I" -telling, the author-protagonist forms a combination of the real author, the narrator and the main character, offers the reader a world created by him, in which the focus is on the author's impressions and guidelines. For the reader to rethink, it remains to follow the author's reflection and determine which of the described is real and which is the author's fantasy. An attempt is made to analyze the author's selfpresentation at the compositional-speech and speech-stylistic levels. This novel is 12th of the 23 novels by the famous German reporter and travel writer A. Altmann. It is a combination of historical and geographical information, the stories of ordinary Australians, philosophical considerations and the author's reflection on what is seen. The figure of the author with his spiritual values and critical attitude to society found its imprint in the image of the author, creating the impression of complete identity with the real author. It is a novel with predominant compositional and speech forms - messages with descriptive elements and author's reflections. A typical architectural-speech form of the work is a monologue-reflection. At the speech-stylistic level, it should be noted the author's perfect use of a wide range of stylistically colored lexical layer from poetic to colloquial language. In the future, it is considered appropriate to compare and explore the author's position in the modern Ukrainian and German travel novel.

Abstract:
Interdisciplinary studies are becoming increasingly popular, and research domains of many experts are becoming diverse. This phenomenon brings difficulty in recommending experts to review interdisciplinary submissions. In this study, an Author–Subject–Topic (AST) model is proposed with two versions. In the model, reviewers’ subject information is embedded to analyse topic distributions of submissions and reviewers’ publications. The major difference between the AST and Author–Topic models lies in the introduction of a ‘Subject’ layer, which supervises the generation of hierarchical topics and allows sharing of subjects among authors. To evaluate the performance of the AST model, papers in Information System and Management (a typical interdisciplinary domain) in a famous Chinese academic library are investigated. Comparative experiments are conducted, which show the effectiveness of the AST model in topic distribution analysis and reviewer recommendation for interdisciplinary studies.

Abstract:
Abstract This article revisits the Marxist anticolonial feminist writings of Urdu author Ismat Chughtai through a materialist exploration into how the female body—with its erotic curvatures and grotesque protuberances, its sticky and viscous textures and fluids—becomes the focalized object of what the author terms the erotics of disgust. Chughtai is perhaps most famous for her being tried for obscenity in 1942 for her most famous short story, “The Quilt” (“Lihaaf”), which narrates a young girl’s encounter with the erotic relationship of a middle-class Muslim woman and her female servant. As Chughtai herself recounts, however, she was acquitted because the prosecution could never point to the exact words that were to be considered obscene. The author argues that we read Chughtai’s extraordinary inquiries into the imbrication of desire and disgust as the visceral sites of gender discipline, as the question of the “modern” Muslim female citizen subject hangs in the balance of an emergent Indian nationhood. The author offers a queer feminist critique of the traditional phenomenology of disgust by analyzing the codes of erotic texture produced out of histories of colonial hygiene and bourgeois sexual discipline in late colonial India.

The content and consequences of the discussion on the “Birth of Tragedy” by F. Nietzsche between U. Wilamowitz-Moellendorff and E. Rohde are analyzed. The heuristic potential of this metaphor is evaluated. The author draws attention to the fact that the opposition between the “cult of Apollo” and “the cult of Dionysus” was never practiced in Ancient Greece itself. At the same time, Nietzsche's scheme turned out to be extremely long lived; not only for numerous writers and publicists, but also for scientists of various specializations who used it liberally.

Abstract:
In the early 1930s, when he started being translated into French, Faulkner was an unknown author in the transnational literary field. Questioning the role of intermediaries—publishers, translators, critics, authors—in the circulation of literary works and in the making of world literature, this article focuses on the role of the French publisher Gallimard in the symbolic recognition of Faulkner. Based on the publisher’s archives, the study examines the editorial strategies implemented in order to introduce a foreign author in a country that occupied a central position in the transnational literary field, at a time American literature just began arising interest: selection and order of publication of the works, prefaces by famous French authors (Malraux), publication in literary journals. These prefaces as well as the first reviews of Faulkner’s novels also reveal different strategies of importation, from transfer of symbolic capital to subverting the local literary field (Sartre).

The researcher talks about the importance and usefulness of knowledge of the French eighteen-century novel, the Enlightenment ideas and artistic trends for the work on the biography of the author of The Manuscript found in Saragossa. Rosset also talks about archive research related to the work on this biography and about how he used his knowledge of editorial meanders of the famous novel while writing. The researcher emphasizes that the authors of biographies should keep a distance from the characters of their stories and that their main goal is to try to present the life cycle of a given person as comprehensively as possible, supporting it with sources.

Abstract There are many greats in science history but relatively few women scientists that could be chosen as role models. This essay presents some from among contemporary contributors to chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics, and astronomy. They had overcome barriers of discrimination, the difficulties of managing their time between research and family, and all have triumphed. They include some of the most famous, such as Isabella Karle, Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, Anne McLaren, and Vera Rubin, and some less famous, including examples from Russia, India, and Turkey. Their presentation is based on personal encounters with them by the author; herself a scientist, wife, and mother.

Abstract:
The Sienese artist-engineer Mariano Taccola left behind five books of annotated drawings, presently in the collections of the state libraries of Florence and Munich. Taccola was well known in Siena, and his drawings were studied and copied by artists of the period, probably serving as models for Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks. However, his work has received little attention from scholars and students in recent times. The author, a sculptor, has long been interested in Taccola's drawings for his studio projects. Although Taccola lacked the fine drawing hand displayed by many of his contemporaries, his inventive work may appeal especially to viewers today. Based on examination of the original drawings, the author discusses the qualities that make Taccola's drawings unique and considers what Taccola's intentions may have been in making them.
