AbstractThe article is inspired by the discovery of new documents concerning the case of the heretic Fanino Fanini da Faenza, who in 1549–1550 was at the centre of a bitter jurisdictional conflict between the Holy See and the Estense State. Thanks to the new evidence collected, it is possible to outline the role played by the legate of Romagna, Cardinal Girolamo Recanati Capodiferro, who conducted negotiations with Duke Ercole II d’Este through the mediation of the Portuguese scholar António Ribeiro. The study then attempts to broaden the analysis, showing that Fanini’s story allows us to reflect on the positions taken by some members of the sacred college (in particular Marcello Cervini and Capodiferro himself) in the months preceding the death of Paul III, on their attitude towards the heretical emergency, and on the attempts of the Italian princes to impose their own control over the inquisitorial courts.

Abstract:

The paper considers the derivation and properties of the Fanno model for nearly unidirectional turbulent flow of gas in a tube. The model is relevant to many industrial processes. Approximate solutions are derived and numerically validated for evolving flows of initially small amplitude, and these solutions reveal the prevalence of localized large-time behaviour, which is in contrast to inviscid acoustic theory. The properties of large-amplitude travelling waves are summarized, which are also surprising when compared to those of inviscid theory.

Abstract:

The aim of this note is to obtain a flow rate equation for subsonic Fanno flow, which has a form similar to the flow rate equation for isothermal flow. When pipe dimensions and the proper values of pressures and temperatures at two sections along a pipe, namely P1, P2, T1 and T2 are given, the mass flow rate is obtained by simple substitution into the obtained formula. However, only three of the above four quantities are independently given, since the steady Fanno flow problem involves three first-order differential equations. Therefore, the problem has three degrees of freedom. The theory in this note shows an algebraic equation that determines the fourth quantity by using the given three quantities. The method for finding the mass flow rate and state variables of the gas in the pipe are substantially simplified compared with the commonly distributed method. The relative difference of mass flow rates between the subsonic Fanno and isothermal flows is smaller than 1% in practical combinations of P2 /P1 and the pipe-friction parameter fL/D.

El fandango jarocho es un evento festivo comunitario con música y baile, producto del mestizaje, cuya tradición hunde sus raíces desde la época colonial. Durante la primera mitad del siglo XX, el fandango jarocho atravesó un punto crítico para la continuación de su práctica, por lo que, a partir de la década de los 80, surge un colectivo interesado en su investigación, revitalización y difusión, denominado Movimiento jaranero. En estas páginas se explicita el proceso de salvaguarda del fandango jarocho iniciado por el Movimiento jaranero, entendido como una articulación socio-estatal, que buscó garantizar una generación de relevo y la pervivencia del fandango. Como resultado de la tensión entre pasado y presente, actualmente el fandango y el sonjarocho – el género musical que le hace parte – se manifiestan en diversas esferas y con variacionesque alcanzan incluso la fusión con otros géneros musicales.

Abstract:

The quality and yields of strawberry plants are seriously affected by abiotic stress every year. NAC (NAM, ATAF, CUC) transcription factors are plant-specific, having various functions in plant development and response to stress. In our study, FaNAC2 from strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa, cultivar “Benihoppe”) was isolated and found to be a member of the ATAF sub-family, belonging to the NAC family of transcription factors. FaNAC2 was strongly expressed in the shoot apical meristem and older leaves of strawberries, and was induced by cold, high salinity, and drought stress. To investigate how FaNAC2 functions in plant responses to abiotic stress, transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana plants ectopically overexpressing FaNAC2 were generated. The transgenic plants grew better under salt and cold stress, and, during simulated drought treatment, these transgenic lines not only grew better, but also showed higher seed germination rates than wild-type plants. Gene expression analysis revealed that key genes in proline biosynthesis pathways were up-regulated in FaNAC2 overexpression lines, while its catabolic pathway genes were down-regulated and proline was accumulated more with the overexpression of FaNAC2 after stress treatments. Furthermore, the gene expression of abscisic acid biosynthesis was also promoted. Our results demonstrate that FaNAC2 plays an important positive role in response to different abiotic stresses and may be further utilized to improve the stress tolerance of strawberry plants.

Il percorso biografico di Amintore Fanfani rappresenta un punto di osservazione privilegiato, segnato dall'incontro tra la politica estera e le scelte che hanno caratterizzato diverse fasi della storia della repubblica. Il contributo analizza alcune questioni chiave che attraversano e ridefiniscono il sistema internazionale, con particolare attenzione agli indirizzi e ai condizionamenti del sistema bipolare. Il ruolo centrale di Fanfani nella Democrazia cristiana e negli esecutivi che lo vedono capo del governo o ministro degli Esteri viene utilizzato come chiave di lettura per seguire le trasformazioni dei nessi tra quadro interno e contesto internazionale. As marcas do fandango são danças compostas por diversas coreografias, conhecidas como modas. O fandango valsado é dançado pelos pares, que giram pelo salão em sentido anti-horário e o batido é dançado exclusivamente pelos homens, que sapateiam com o auxílio de tamancos feitos de madeira. Devemos pensar que por possuir características repentistas e letras que apresentam variações e particularidades em cada local onde é tocado, o fandango é vivo e circulante e agrega ainda a dança e a linguagem poética própria do caboclo e do caiçara, e entrar em contato com as letras e melodias do fandango é captar a sensibilidade de homens e mulheres que escrevem a própria história a partir de suas vivências. Desta forma, procuramos analisar algumas melodias do fandango, que trazem a vivência e a convivência cotidianas como um patrimônio que se transmite pela música e pela dança, e verificar como essa manifestação cultural vem sofrendo alterações e recebendo influências com o passar do tempo.

Abstract:

O presente relato refere-se a uma narrativa rememorativa de um evento histórico de valorização cultural do Fandango do Litoral Sul de São Paulo e Litoral Norte do Paraná pela realização do I Encontro de grupos de Fandango do Vale do Ribeira e litoral Norte do Paraná realizado em 2003 e sua expressão 14 anos mais tarde. O processo de valorização cultural do Fandango fundamentou-se nas propostas de pesquisa-intervenção-educacional participativa (VIEZZER; OVALLES, 1995) e tendo como objetivo contribuir para a valorização da cultura caiçara. O local desse encontro foi no Parque Estadual da Ilha do Cardoso que está localizado no litoral sul do Estado de São Paulo, em Cananéia, a 272 Km da capital do Estado. Faz divisa com o Estado do Paraná e está inserido na região do Vale do Ribeira. O I encontro de Grupos de Fandango foi realizado nos dias 22 e 23 de fevereiro de 2003. Nesta intervenção foi estimulado o intercâmbio cultural entre os grupos de Fandango, sendo eles comunidade do Itacuruçá (Ilha do Cardoso), Grupo de Fandango de Cananéia, Jovens da Juréia e o Grupo Folclórico Caiçaras do Paraná (Ilha dos Valadares), buscando a valorização de seus hábitos, danças, ritmos locais, dificuldades e sucessos de cada grupo e conhecimentos da biodiversidade ligados a cultura do Fandango. As instituições organizadoras deste evento foram Instituto Ecos da Mata (IEM), Parque Estadual da Ilha do Cardoso (PEIC) e Núcleo de Apoio a Pesquisa Sobre Populações Humanas e Áreas Úmidas Brasileiras (NUPAUB). Os patrocinadores foram: Fundo de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da Universidade de São Paulo, Consulado Alemão, Instituto Ecos da Mata (IEM), Parque Estadual da Ilha do Cardoso (PEIC) e Instituto de Pesca de Guaragueçaba (IPG). A análise 14 anos mais tarde deste evento de reflexão e discussões com os próprios fandangueiros, foi permeada por análise documental, observação participante e conversas estruturadas com pesquisadores e fandangueiros. Foi possível observar que o Fandango ainda tem dificuldades com sua expressividade, principalmente porque ele é resultado de processos coletivos na comunidade como a colheita de culturas agrícolas, a despesca de cerco entre outros e que por inúmeros motivos que não foi abordado neste trabalho transformaram as comunidades mais individualizadas e comprometendo a execução de rodas ou bailes de Fandango. Por outro lado, foi observado que o Fandango está “vivo”, tendo várias ações nesta região estudada como protagonistas desta manutenção cultural que vão desde políticas públicas até ações individuais.

Abstract:

A recent paper of Ockendon et al. discusses the Fanno model for quasi-one-dimensional flow of gas in a tube, in situations where the flow is turbulent and the tube is long enough for wall drag to be important. Based on appropriate scalings and with associated boundary conditions they derive equations for similarity solutions and make predictions about travelling and evolving waves. In this paper the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behaviour of these wave forms is proved rigorously. Techniques include shooting methods (both one- and two-parameter), appropriate changes of variables, and comparison techniques.

This paper presents numerical results on the evolution of the solutions of the Fanno model for compressible pipe flow. The principal results concern the large-time behaviour when nonlinear effects are appreciable throughout the evolution. Our computations show that compression waves can be expected to evolve into travelling waves for large times whereas expansion waves cannot.

Abstract:

In this paper, we investigate the initial-boundary value problem of compressible Euler equations including friction and heating that model the transonic Fanno–Rayleigh flows through symmetric variable area nozzles. In particular, the case of contracting nozzles is considered. A new version of a generalized Glimm scheme (GGS) is presented for establishing the global existence of entropy solutions with bounded variation. Modified Riemann and boundary Riemann solutions are applied to design this GGS, which is constructed using the contraction matrices acting on the homogeneous Riemann (or boundary-Riemann) solutions. The extended Glimm–Goodman’s type of wave interaction estimates are investigated to determine the stability of the scheme and the positivity of gas velocity that results in the existence of the weak solution. The limit of approximation solutions serves as an entropy solution. Moreover, a quantitative relation between the shape of the nozzle, friction, and heat is proposed for the global existence result in the contracting nozzle. Numerical simulations of the contraction-expansion and expansion-contraction nozzles are presented to validate the scheme.

Abstract:

Le pazienti oncologiche vivono elevati livelli di distress psicologico, in particolar modo durante le prime fasi di diagnosi e trattamento. Lo studio valuta l'efficacia di un intervento di terapie complementari, nel contenimento di ansia, depressione, rabbia e stress in pazienti oncologiche. 62 pazienti sono state randomizzate in gruppo sperimentale e di controllo. Il gruppo sperimentale ha partecipato ad una singola sessione di musicoterapia nella globalita dei linguaggi e holding psicologico in gruppo, durante l'infusione di chemioterapia ambulatoriale. Lo strumento di valutazione pre e post intervento e stato l'Emotional Thermometers Tool. Nel gruppo sperimentale i livelli di stress, ansia, depressione e rabbia, risultano ridotti in maniera significativa dopo l'intervento. Nel gruppo di controllo si riducono stress e ansia. La richiesta di aiuto risulta maggiormente soddisfatta nel gruppo sperimentale. L'intervento di gruppo di musicoterapia e holding psicologico si e dimostrato utile nel ridurre il distress emozionale durante l'infusione di chemioterapia. Andrebbe valutato l'impiego delle terapie complementari nei percorsi di umanizzazione.
