Abstract:

Fanfictions are fictional stories written by fans, based on TV shows, movies, literary works, videogames: fans borrow from previously existing characters and universes to develop new plots. From a post-structuralist perspective, this study follows two complementary lines of research: first, it examines fanfiction in light of the theoretical-conceptual propositions of André Lefevere (1982, 1992) — notions of refraction/rewriting and patronage; second, it dialogues with Jacques Derrida s Archive Fever (1995), and his rich contributions to the notion of archive. This research focuses particularly on investigating the following effects of this type of rewriting: how does fanfiction disrupt the traditional modus operandi of literary systems? How do fan narratives destabilize, to a greater or lesser extent, identities of other rewritings, such as the pastiche? Considering the specificities of the genre, how can one characterize it from a philosophical perspective? This research shows in particular that (a) fanfiction can be thought of as a type of rewriting in Lefevere s terms, fan narratives destabilize some patronage control mechanisms, there are differences between fanfiction and pastiche, as well as between these and other forms of rewriting, such as translation, adaptation and literary criticism; and (b) fanfiction can be productively conceived as an archontic rewriting, in Derrida s terms, as it is used by so-called minorities as a way of expressing dissatisfaction and a path to representativity (DERECHO, 2006), while still corroborating the tension between conservative and institutive forces, as proposed by the philosopher in his archive theory. Finally, excerpts of fanfictions from three different fictional universes are analyzed, in light of the theories of Lefevere, Derecho and Derrida, in order to illustrate and reinforce the theoretical discussions presented.

Abstract:
Fan fiction has emerged as an area of interest for public libraries as the reading of it grows more widespread and visible. This study aims to offer an analysis of the practice that furthers the knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon and its perceived benefits for its readers in a way that allows librarians to better work with it. This mixed methods qualitative study builds on an partial overview of activities related to fan fiction on Swedish public libraries, 25 semi-structured interviews with both librarians and fan fiction readers, two small surveys concerning librarians’ knowledge of the phenomenon, and a few additional secondary sources in the form of previous research and ethnographic data not collected especially for the purposes of this thesis. In a thematic analysis the ways in which fan fiction readers and librarians make sense of the phenomenon and its perceived benefits to its readers are identified and formulated, and compared both to each other and the general reading discourses identified and thematized by Catherine Sheldrick Ross. Drawing on the ways in which different discourses enables or prohibits certain actions, it is suggested that fan fiction can be usefully understood as an extended reading of the source material, as a genre in its own right, and as a more accessible reading option. Each of these discourses suggests various ways in which public libraries might work with fan fiction. However, both the understanding formulated by librarians in interviews and the fan fiction related activities already organized at Swedish public libraries draw almost exclusively on the discourse of fan fiction as extended reading, overlooking aspects of genre and accessibility and the potential activities suggested by these discourses. Paying attention to all three aspects would not only make space for the possibility of different and at times more suitable activities, but might potentially also improve the library services offered to users in general.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the traditions of textual interaction that impact the forms of reading engaged in with fanfiction. This thesis continues by exploring how self-insertion fanfiction functions as a medium through which authors express their reading of the text primary through the emotional impact of the text through wish fulfillment, and the interaction of their cultural moment and the text. Furthermore, it argues that self-insertion fanfiction is a mode of literary critique in which the author acknowledges the effect of a mediated world on their perception of self and reality. Through this recognition of a constructed self, the author rejects the attractiveness of objective analysis, allowing them to critique the work from their subject position influenced by the text.

This essay focuses on the production written by fans that use digital technology to upload their work, known in cyberspace as fanfics. These fans are anonymous people who submit their texts, their fanfics, to the screening of proofreaders and readers who united by the same literary taste and/or by the desire to improve their writing style feedback on, and take part in, each others´ work. A look at different cyber environments, particularly blogs and websites, reveals that fanfics have become a new type of textual creation. Our aim is to describe the universe within which fanfics, or fanfictions, exist so as to show how their shared authorship is built. Unlike school students, fanfic writers place themselves as the subject of their text, assume their authorship when they position themselves vis-a-vis a text, and, by making use of different genres, do not let the dialogue end. In order to penetrate the nature of such fans, who become authors themselves, or co-authors of an original work, we fall back on the observations made by theorists of Social Discourse Analysis. Our conclusion is that in cyberspace there is a new space for textual production, wherein it is possible to dialogue, (re) create, and for fanfics to present a smooth conception of authorship since they spring from an existing idea already accepted in the publishing universe and even by other media types. The fanfic writer places himself as a co-author of an original published work by getting hold of an idea that already exists, of a style, and starts a new game. Drawn by the voice of the original author, he seeks to emulate the same features, the same style, so as to find new players/readers who wish to share and discuss with him his authorship

This thesis aims to investigate and analyze the movements of reading and writing of fanfiction in the virtual community Nyah! Fanfiction. This website has fictional stories produced by amateur writers and, therefore, it is reference to the most avid fan fiction readers in Brazil. The study is theoretically supported by Soares (2010), Kleiman (1995) Lankshear and Knobel (2006), Lévy (1999), Rojo (2009, 2012, 2013), Shepherd (2013), Correa (2007), Coscarelli (2011), Pinheiro (2013), Vargas (2005), Freitas and Costa (2006) and other. The research was guided by a question that led to the data analysis: 1) How reading and writing of fictional stories can become literacy practices in Nyah! Fanfiction? The research methodology has a qualitative and interpretative approach supported by Flick (2009) and Bortoni-Ricardo (2008), based on the non-participant observation method that guided the generation of the data. The outcomes have pointed out to an appreciation of creation and authorship of fanfiction readers and writers in a virtual territory that favors an asynchronous interaction and fictional texts that encourage social practices that are constituted by the written language and therefore for being available on the web, this way they provide and expand social relationships beyond traditional agencies and creat spaces for collective and collaborative language learning. Finally, I concluded that the space Nyah! Fanfiction is a literacy environment, because it leads the contemporary individual to participate in real social and interactional events of reading and writing in an active and dynamic way to the digital environment.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This dissertation focuses on fanfictions, or fanfics fictional pieces of writing from fans of a specific cultural object movies, series, books, comic strips, animations, games, etc,) with special attention to the conflicts among the ficwriters which arose from the types of writing in this environment. It is stated that the fanfiction writing practice constitutes a structured field in which its agents fight for symbolic capital, according to the concept created by Pierre Bourdieu. The forces of preservation and change in the fanfiction universe are analyzed in the context of a corpus of written texts created by fans forum discussions, manifests and fanfic. In these texts, fans debate the existing problems in the environment disagreement between authors in search of popularity and those seeking quality, prejudice against certain categories in the field and against authors with difficulties in writing. It also analyses the way fans and fanfiction writers relate with cultural objects on which they base their production, with the entertainment market and with Literature. In the same way there is a great deal of prejudice among fans, there are also forces in search of a democratic space, a free zone for fanfiction writers and readers, where it is possible to produce fanfics whose themes are generally rejected by mainstream media producers and society alike. These themes comprehend narratives with female main characters, homosexual relationships, explicit sex, etc. Therefore, the fanfiction is also an opportunity of free speech for minority groups.

The theoretical perspective adopted in this study is part of a systemic-functionalist view of language. The language can be analyzed from different angles, as the postulates of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), which considers the texts with metafunciont encompassing ideational, interpersonal and textual meanings. The textual metafunction organizes the language in a unit of meaning (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2004, 2014) that allows us to recognize how we build the flow of information in texts. On the internet, a range of publications explodes daily and we realized many new textual genres arising from the heavy use of technologies and their interference in daily communication activities. Among these new genres are the fanfiction. In this sense, the objective of this study focuses on analyzing how to process the flow of textual information in fanfiction, that is, how we can build these texts as a unit of meaning. The texts are written in portuguese and published in the two largest sites of fanfiction publications in Brazil. The results show that the functional units of amusement - Theme occur mainly at the level of the clause and that the boundary between the subject and the Rheme is located immediately after the first phrasal element with a representation or representational function. The notion of theme, initially equated in terms of the clause, can provide valuable input for the analysis of textual structures. The results also show that in each phase of the text, there may be different sets of semantic topics and N-Rheme, which is essential stages of progression in the textual and therefore all the texts. We consider Theme and N-Rheme as important elements for the analysis above surfaces of sentence - in particular the thematic and rhemetic progression and development, and in general, the construction of textual structure.

Abstract:
Fanfiction provides the unique opportunity to explore disruptions of heteronormativity through tropes. By exploring different fanfictions in the Soulmate AU, ABO Dynamics, and Mpreg tropes, the disruptions indicate a desire to explore gender, identity, and sexuality through queered characters. Male slash fanfiction provides the chance to examine the disruption of the heteronormative through the queering of male characters and placing them into situations that may embrace the feminine or a female-gendered experience. The situating of heterosexual male characters into queered roles allows an examination of how this disrupts canonical ideas of gender, identity, and sexuality. By reviewing the male slash relationships in these tropes, the narratives may explain why the disruption of heteronormativity seems so appealing to fanfiction authors and readers. Heteronormativity restricts exploration of new dynamics and experiences that fanfiction authors and readers may crave to investigate. Disrupting that heteronormativity presents new opportunities for experiences in areas that may receive underrepresentation.

Abstract:
Nancy Drew is widely recognized as an influential American cultural icon. In this paper I make a detailed examination of Nancy's initial characterization as girl sleuth in the first ten books of the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, published in the 1930s. I spend another chapter examining the initial volumes of later Nancy Drew series books, specifically the 1960s rewritten texts, the 1980s-90s Nancy Drew Files series, and the contemporary Girl Detective series. My penultimate chapter discusses Nancy Drew as realized in fanfiction, or stories written by readers and fans. My emphasis is on explaining Nancy's appeal as a cultural icon and the ways fanfiction authors reinvent and appropriate that icon for their own purposes in stories. To this end I cite fanfic writers and readers' response to why they read and write Nancy Drew fanfiction, and I analyze the content and function of a sample of stories written by Nancy Drew fans. I conclude that Nancy's appeal and the basis of her status as cultural icon is due to her unique nature as a figure frozen in transition between adolescence and adulthood, along with her more conventionally admirable traits. Her Everygirl appearance when removed from that unique matrix makes her extremely adaptable to readers for their own purposes, both within the context of fanfiction and without.

Abstract: Starting from the premise that young people become more and more virtual and increasingly read and write in cyberspace, this dissertation thinks about practices that seek to collaborate so that teaching is not alien to the diversity of languages and cultures of the technological world, and that is directed to think the genres as social practices within this young and digital universe. Allied to this, we believe that a proposal of education based on the dialogism needs, necessarily, to consider the voices of the students, since they are subjects and are constituted of identities and preferences. For this, our proposal focuses on the discursive genre fanfiction (fan writing), constructed from a television series chosen by the students. When inserting the genre as a work proposal with writing, in the 9th grade of a municipal school in Praia Grande, we intend to collaborate so that the students develop linguistic and discursive skills and that, as a consequence, develop a critical and analytical posture in face of this diversity of texts that the Internet offers. In addition, it is our goal to reflect on the construction of the genre in cyberspace - taken as a massive transmissive cultural phenomenon when considering its production and reception - as well as the involvement of young people in this new scenario of literature and textual production. From the production of fanfictions, we also analyze how the students' discourses were architected in their statements, in terms of thematic content, compositional form or style. We base our analysis on the studies of Bakhtin's circle, from the dialectical-dialogical perspective of discourse analysis, in comparison and alterity, chronotope and exotopia. We discuss the conceptions of dialogue, ideology, subject, social voice and discursive genres, not only to think about Portuguese public teaching... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:

The following study is a qualitative combination of textual analysis and interviews concerning the subject of slashfiction. Slash is a sub-category to fanfiction, which essentially means non-professionally authored short stories about already existing characters and environments, for example from TV-shows, movies or books. These stories are available on the internet. The main point is to pair two of the male characters together in a sexual relationship. According to previous studies, 90 percent of all fanfiction writers are female and this percentage is probably even higher when it comes to slash.

I have looked into what these stories can be an expression of, by analyzing the construction of gender, sexuality and relationships using the following three questions:

  • Is slash a quest for an ideal equal and romantic relationship?
  • Do these stories represent a resistance against established norms regarding gender and sexuality?
  • What role does transcendence of boundaries play in slash?

I have used stories that are derived from the American TV show Supernatural, which generally try to explore the relationship between its protagonists, the brothers Sam and Dean Winchester.  The result gives a somewhat divided picture of slash, as some stories clearly break with traditional gender norms while others seem to uphold them.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This research investigates expressions of identity and formation of identity found in an online fanfiction forum based on the young adult novel, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. Using Wenger’s neo-Vygotskian socio-cultural learning theorem from his book, Communities of Practice I observed, then coded posts by authors and respondents using a rubric I operationalized from Wenger’s five characteristics of identity in practice. I employed a deductive coding scheme and used Wenger’s community of practice as a framework. During the coding process, I found many examples of what seem to be expressions of identity in practice and what appear to be examples of identity in formation. I discuss how this online fanfiction forum operates as a community of practice and consider how this fanfiction space informs other educational applications. There are different instructional strategies that could be gleaned from the coding and analysis process that practicing teachers and librarians could implement into their current online or offline practices. This fanfiction forum is an example of a self-selected online activity with a high level of reading and writing engagement. There are many exciting signs of educational and developmental activities occurring in this fanfiction forum, which suggests further investigation is needed.

Abstract:
Fanfiction consists of works written by amateurs using pre-existing characters and plots, often shared online for free. Although fanfiction began long before the advent of the internet, the worldwide web has created a platform wherein fanfiction is allowed and encouraged to spread almost unconditionally, reaching new populations and rising slowly but surely into the public eye. As the internet has made fanfiction more accessible and public, it has also increased the number of children and young adults involved in the process. And in the unsupervised wilderness of the internet, sexual content is a common feature of fanfiction, with a varying degree of accuracy in said sexual content. As the influence of fanfiction spreads, academic research into fanfiction has also spread. The purpose of this project is to better understand how fanfiction can impact what adolescents and young adults know about sex and how that information shapes their sexual attitudes. A secondary goal is to question fanfiction authors and readers about whether they are interested in the presentation of accurate sexual information in fanfiction. In order to answer these questions, this project included a review of several works of fanfiction, as well as a survey of 25 fanfiction readers and writers, and interviews with seven of the survey participants. In general, the answer to whether fanfiction has impacted users has been a resounding yes. Prosumers (those who may produce and/or consumer fanfiction) reached through the survey and the interviews largely identified fanfiction as an important resource in their sexual education, with a mostly positive influence. Prosumers cited fanfiction as a source that broadened their knowledge of the intricacies and variations of sex, as well as something that made them more understanding of their own desires and the desires of others. On the other hand, fanfiction prosumers did not necessarily cite fanfiction as being technically accurate. Instead, they valued fanfiction for the variety of viewpoints fanfiction brought them, and the chances it gave them to portray their own lives and issues through their favorite pieces of pop culture. Because the information gathered through this project identifies fanfiction as a source of information about sex for prosumers, and the Archive of Our Own platform specifically, as a reasonable and useful place to embed health-based sex ed interventions. However, fanfiction prosumers mostly seem to know the limits of their creations already, and already have some types of intervention in place, such as the tradition of informational author notes. If future interventions were to be enacted, it would have to be carefully planned with the prosumers, and would likely be most efficacious if it were to utilize those existing prosumer interventions.

This study is contextualized in the perspective of Educational Sociolinguistics and has its support in the Participatory Culture and Literacy studies. The objective was to develop an action- research that includes written text production and linguistic analysis of fanfictions in Portuguese classes, thus associating scientific knowledge with the sociocultural interests of the students. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, we used the genre fanfiction as a tool for teaching in mother language classes, since our purpose is to integrate the practices of reading/ writing and linguistic analysis, considering the sociolinguistic bias in teaching / learning. The suggested activities sought to improve reading and the texts production. In a way to achieve the sociocultural aspects, the student cooperate in choosing the literature books and themes, as well as in analyzing and evaluating of the texts produced in Portuguese classes. Thus, as sociolinguistic studies advocate, we seek to promote student participation as active agents and knowledge builders

In order to describe and verify the most common resources used in the creation of Harry Potter fanfictions in Brazil, this study presents the movement of consumers towards a more participative culture in the last two decades, its implications to debates on intellectual property and the impact of technological evolution on the production and circulation of media content. The work also examines the history of fanfiction and the existent mechanisms of reinterpretation of original narratives, as well as the expressive numbers that represent the success of J.K. Rowling's books both as an editorial phenomenon and fandom on the internet. Given the significant production inspired in the Harry Potter series by Brazilian fans, three representative fanfictions are analyzed, in the light of the specific ways the original is rewritten. Alternative universe, focus on secondary characters, slash and timeline expansion, which were found to be the most recurrent procedures in the rewritings, evince partiality for personal creation on the part of authors and readers

The contemporary culture is experiencing a period of transformation and acceleration. Inside the connection between the digital culture and communication, new ways of create and participate in fictional narratives have collaborated with these instant changes now a days. The complexity of this theme is intensified from the moment that interaction between media and narrative, both have started to overlap one above the other. And the transmedia storytelling is the prevailing concept that strives to explain this complexity. The main objective of this dissertation is to present an exploratory research that reflects the transmedia storytelling in both aspects, the theoretical and the practical. Expected to propose further discussions on the subject from the consideration of different points of view. The purpose is to show new branches of transmedia storytelling. The main theoretical references that guided the journey were: Carlos Scolari (2009, 2013), Clay Shirky (2011), Henry Jenkins (2009), Lucia Santaella (2004, 2013), Marie-Laure Ryan (2013), Steven Johnson (2003, 2012). Then, the dissertation was divided into four chapters. The first chapter is about the genealogy and the precursors concepts of transmedia storytelling. The second discusses the relationship between the transmedia storytelling and the ubiquitous reader. The third chapter argues about how to plan a transmedia project. The fourth chapter introduces the possibility of discussing the transmedia storytelling from the look of semiotics, especially through the concept of intersemiotic translation

Abstract:
Today, literature is published in a wide variety of formats, it can be published digitally or in the more traditional paper format or as an audiobook. This thesis aims to take a closer look at fan fiction readers’ reading habits and motivations for reading, as group accustomed to using different kinds of formats for their reading. It does so by analyzing fifteen responses to an online survey using only open-ended questions. The survey was posted online on fan fiction sites and could be answered anonymously. The responses to the survey were analyzed using the four different reading motivations factors found by Nicola Schutte and John M. Malouff in a previous study. The answers to the online survey showed that most of the readers read daily and the most common format was the traditional paper book, though there were some readers who used other formats as well. The four motivations factors formulated by Schutte and Malouff were not easily found in the answers to the online survey. The result instead showed that most of the readers read to escape their daily life and to get news, information and to learn new things.

Popova, Milena. ""Slight dub-con but they both wanted it hardcore" : erotic fanfiction as a form of cultural activism around sexual consent." Thesis, University of the West of England, Bristol, 2018. http://eprints.uwe.ac.uk/33603/.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis I argue that the treatment of issues of sexual consent in erotic fanfiction can be viewed as a form of cultural activism. Using a combination of traditional, digital and autoethnography, as well as discourse analysis, I trace engagements with sexual consent among readers and writers of erotic fanfiction both in their creative output published on sites such as the Archive of Our Own and in their conversations and day-to-day interactions with each other as well as beyond the fandom community. The original contribution of this work is two-fold. Firstly, it maps in detail some of the ways in which sexual consent, particularly in the presence of power differentials, is treated in erotic fanfiction. I argue that through the use of techniques particular to fanfiction, readers and writers within this community are able to issue powerful challenges to dominant discourses about gender, romance, sexuality, and consent. Secondly, I argue that these engagements can be viewed as a distinct form of cultural activism. While cultural activism is traditionally seen as directed outwards to the general public, the production, circulation, and discussion of fanfiction allows the community to form powerful alternative imaginaries of sexuality and consent, make prefigurative gestures, and establish a praxis of consent within the community itself. The knowledges generated in these ways are then applied to community members' own day-to-day lives and engagements with sexuality, consent, and rape culture. This points to the fanfiction community as a source of a powerful discursive resistance on issues of rape and consent, and supports an expansion of the definition of cultural activism to cover activities directed at challenging internalised dominant discourses within the boundaries of a community.

This study focuses on the presence of the reader-writer of stories created and published on the Internet, more specifically, an author who was once a reader of an original story, and decides to continue it (from the moment which its first original writer finished) or modify it in order to please yourself and/or any other readers, because, as Roland Barthes once said (2004), the writer will always be an imitator of his writings prior to that time, but never original. In the stories created by fans-authors (as the authors committed in the writing of this kind of story are called), we study the modification of the concept of authorship nowadays, because the author loses has a new personality as he/she uses some form of information technology - and now handles with something called hybrid genres: texts that are not just pure, but haven‟t a feature to be defined only by common concepts either. Thus it is difficult to define what is, after all, the author in the era of digital genres. At a time when every day people worldwide increase their number of hours browsing, digital genres represent a new relationship between humans and semiotic instrument, with several aspects to be observed.

Abstract:
The present study, based on the presuppositions of Cultural history, more specifically focused in the history of the reading and writing practices, aims to examine some of the changes occurred in the practices of reading and writing deflagrated with the emergence of computers and the internet. Information and communication technologies today are responsible for deep changes in many areas of social life and, regarding reading and writing, they are responsible for a real revolution in texts’ supports, in the figures of author and reader, as well as in the practices, in such a degree that it can be compared to the revolution occurred with the passage of the roll (volumen) to the Codex in the 5th Century. As a privileged object of analysis, the research is centered on the fanfictions, which are texts written by young fans of books, films, series, comic books (including the Japanese manga), cartoons (including the Japanese animês), bands, among others. The readers/writers of the fanfictions get inspiration on the characters, scenarios, plots and in the conflicts of the works that they are fans, from which they dedicate themselves to write their own stories. The empirical research uses documents produced from structured questionnaires, sent and received electronically, answered by twenty-seven (27) young writers of fanfics (ficwriters), invited from the systematic observation of three websites: FanFiction.net, Nyah!Fanfiction, FictionPress and a blog of a young writer. Two face-to-face interviews with young fans writers are also included. The documentary corpus of this research is added of documents produced from the netnography research, the ethnography adapted to the virtual environment. Documents as Web pages were transformed into images and they reproduce the publishing environment of fanfictions. Also, presentation pages of the youth ficwriters (profile) are added as documents to the study adding up to two hundred and forty-seven (247) files. The survey is based, in particular, on the theoretical contribution of the French historian Roger Chartier, among others authors (R. Darnton, H. Jenkins, D. Tapscott, P. Lévy, Eco & Carrière). The authors help us to reflect about the revolutions of the reading and writing practices and of the electronic text, reading and writing modes, the dense description of these practices, the appropriation concepts, authorship, communities of readers, among others. Among the findings, it should be emphasized that the revolution of the practices of reading and writing announced are part of the long duration of the history of the book, of the reading and writing culture and that, besides transforming modes of reading and writing, the materialities, the supporters, the processes of circulation, production, appropriation, also foment new readings that lead to unusual modes of writing and circulation of texts. And whoever performs such practices are the youth of a Net generation who read many books of fantasy literature, manga, comic books, and etc., and many fanfictions of his peers, becoming writers as well, ficwriters who write a lot motivated by incentives they receive from readers/writers fans. Young people read a lot, and write a lot, maybe not the readings and writings legitimized by the school, but those which give them pleasure.

Abstract:
This doctoral thesis aims at investigating how literacy in a foreign language (FL) may be supported by the use of a digital resource which can help the processes of reading and writing. Thus, the present research is based on studies by Feldman and Sanger (2006) about text mining, and on research by Black (2007, 2009) about the incorporation of a textual genre characteristic of the Internet (fanfiction) in language learning. Through the use of a text mining resource (Sobek), which promotes the extraction of frequent terms present in a text, the participants of this study created narratives, in digital media. The twelve students who participated in the research used the tool Sobek to mediate the production of stories known as fanfictions, in which new plots are created from cultural elements already recognized in the media. The participants were six undergraduate students of Languages and six students who were part of an extension course, both groups at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). In the proposed task, each student read a fanfiction of his/her choice, which was published on a website, and used the mining tool to develop graphs with the recurrent terms found in the story. During this process, the student had the opportunity to make associations between expressions from the text, using the software Sobek, so as to form an image (graph) that represented terms used in this textual genre (such as the use of verbal tenses in the past and adjectives to describe characters and context). Later, this graph was forwarded to a peer, who then began his/her writing process based on this picture originated from a text. From the data analysis, it was observed that the use of a digital tool supported the text production in the FL, and its following practice of literacy, as the authors relied on the mining resource to create their fanfictions.

In ancient Greece, some authors used the mythological universe to produce their plays, thus creating a new story, or another version of the same story. This practice is very similar to what happens in fanfiction, or fanfic, a story written by a fan, involving the scenarios, characters and plots previously developed in the original. Based on this textual genre, this work presents a proposal of a pedagogical intervention for students of the 9th grade of Elementary School in a State public school in Aracaju-SE. In general terms, the methodology involves workshops aimed at reading, critical understanding and elaboration of fanfictions. The proposal is supported by the methodological concepts proposed by Roxane Rojo, which deals with the promotion by the school of teaching proposals that involve the cultural and semiotic multiplicity of society. Among the theoretical contributions that underlie the discussions are the approaches of Bakhtin's circle about the dialogical analyzes of the discourse, of Michel Foucault and Roland Barthes, which deal with the concept of authorship. The contributions of Maurizio Gnerre, who discusses the relations between writing and power, by Donna Haraway, on the relations between organism and machine, and Humberto Maturana, about technology and human living, were also used. The contributions of Maria da Glória Bordini and Vera Teixeira Aguiar were used for the didactic sequence, main point to the application of the proposal, which discusses the Receptive Method of reading, which encourages students to produce texts effectively and expand these preferences with the presentation of new readings to students. Student participation in fanfic production workshops was instrumental in their perception of reading and text production, as well as stimulating work in a collaborative way.
