Abstract:
Abstract This essay investigates the theme of emotionlessness in Salman Rushdie’s novel Shame; the research is carried out within the theoretical framework of postmodernism. In the novel, otherwise filled with strong emotions such as love, hate and shame, one character, Farah Zoroaster, can be singled out as a person characterised by a lack of emotion. The question raised in this research is about the place of emotionlessness in the narrative of the novel and the functions it performs. It is discovered that although Farah has a unique position in the novel, her story is intertwined with those of other migrant/ peripheral characters such as Bilquis Hyder, Eduardo Rodrigues and Omar Khayyam Shakil as opposed to the protagonists of the novel Iskander Harappa and Raza Hyder, who are local/central characters of the novel. However, alongside the narrative lines of her father and Eduardo Rodrigues, Farah Zoroaster’s story explores the topic of migration from a perspective of personal freedom and spirituality, which is different from other migrant narratives in the novel. The postmodern nature of the narrative plays with the reader by offering contrasting connotations of the freedom and spirituality attributed to the emotionlessness of Farah, such as narcissism and the absence of personal qualities.

Abstract:
In 1979 the publishing house mladinska knjiga released the slovene translation of ferdinand oyono's une vie de boy (1956) as Življenje hišnega služabnika. The book appeared largely as a result of an order “from above” in what was then Yugoslavia, mandating publication of texts by writers from Nonaligned Movement (NAM) countries. Marjana Samide, the translator, had previously translated From a Crooked Rib (1970), by the Somali writer Nuruddin Farah (Upognjeno rebro [1978]), and she was given Une vie de boy by a Mladinska knjiga series editor because both authors, Farah and Oyono, were from Africa, seen evidently as a unitary place.

Abstract:
Our Memory Belongs to Us (Rami Farah and Signe Byrge Sørensen, 2021) reunites three activists from a failed revolution—Rani, Yadan, and Odai—in a theatre in Paris in 2019, where codirector Rami Farah plays footage they’d shot themselves during the Syrian revolution. Farah’s approach is one of critical generosity, in which the activists are made to reflect on their images from the past from the perspective of the present. As explored by Stefan Tarnowski in this essay, the resulting documentary directly addresses the activists’ ability to drive political transformations and assemble publics of humanitarian concern through image circulation.

Abstract:
This article first outlines the characteristics of Alain Farah’s project in his latest novel, Pourquoi Bologne, in which his auto-fictional narrative develops out of an experimental approach that questions what literature can and cannot achieve. Farah’s writing thereby casts doubt on our capacity to account for the modern world and life in it. In its second part, the article engages in a detailed commentary of two passages in the novel to show how such a conception of literature conditions the use of writing and compositional strategies that create the impression of a game whose outcome is unclear but nevertheless worth playing.

Abstract:
The triumphal track and field performances of British distance runner, Mo Farah, at the London 2012 Olympic Games were lauded both for their athletic endeavor and for their perceived validation of the rhetoric of ethnic and cultural diversity and inclusion in which the Games were ensconced. By analyzing coverage of the athlete’s achievements in mainstream British newspapers, this article presents a more complicated and critical reading of the relationship between Britishness, multiculture, the politics of inclusion and the London Games. Employing a Critical Discourse Analysis approach, the article shows that Farah was constructed and represented by the media using narratives that are familiar, palatable and reassuring to the public; and that sustain hegemonic models of racialised nationhood and dominant ideologies around sport.

Abstract:
Neuropsychology is blessed by a huge and burgeoning literature—but most practitioners are cursed by a lack of time. How can one possibly keep abreast of the latest developments in computational modelling, functional imaging and clinical practice, while sustaining research within one's own field of interest? Most of us rely quite heavily on review articles and tutorial chapters. Farah and Feinberg's edited set of review chapters Patient Based Approaches to Cognitive Neuroscience is a very useful and broad-ranging collection with extensive line art and grey-scale illustrations. This book would be a useful addition to one's personal library as well as a valuable source of readings for advanced students or clinical trainees. Farah, Feinberg and their publishers are to be congratulated in providing such a valuable work.
