Mestrado em Engenharia Agronómica / Instituto Superior de Agronomia. One of the methods for achieving this goal is the study and investigation of yield gaps, which may be explained by unfavorable soil and climate conditions, or less adequate input management. Abstract:
It is notoriously difficult to improve the accuracy of predicting energy yield for wind farms due to the balance between computational power, time, and accuracy. This is a real world problem for wind farm developers, society, and the environment, because it leads to less than optimal energy yield from a site and may lead to some sites not being developed. This thesis addresses this problem by experimenting with the development of a new hybrid computational fluid dynamics approach to wind farm design based on combining established engineering theory. Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to establish the effectiveness of chlorpyrifos in suppressing H. armigera population in oranges and to determine the effect chlorpyrifos had on the health of farm pesticide operators. Experiments showed that by applying chlorpyrifos on orange trees, H. armigera larvae population was suppressed significantly. High fruit yields were realized from trees that were sprayed with chlorpyrifos. Visual observation of personnel involved in pesticide related duties, revealed that judicious use of pesticides was not practiced by farm workers in all three farms. Data anal

Abstract:
Small-scale farmers rarely get enough yields to sustain themselves to the next harvest. Most of these farmers are located in marginal areas with poor soils and in semi-arid areas which receive little rainfall yet the farmers practice rainfed agriculture. A number of reasons can be attributed to the low yields characterizing these farms. Lack of relevant knowledge for decision-making and climate change are among the major reasons for poor yields. Whilst there is not much the small-scale farmers can do to influence climate, they can at least make informed decisions to improve their yields. The i
