Abstract:
Climate change and variability are predicted to threaten agricultural production in Southern Africa. For example, Zambia's agriculture remains vulnerable to climate change and variability due to the small-scale farmers' dependence on rain-fed agriculture. Some studies in Zambia have shown the quantitative negative impacts of climate variability on agriculture; however, there is limited knowledge on how farmers perceive the impacts and adapt their agricultural systems. To fill in the knowledge gap mentioned above, the aim of the present study was to evaluate farmers' observations of climate var

Achieving food security in a changing climate is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. For subsistence-oriented farming families who experience firsthand pressures on their food system - population growth, environmental degradation and climate change, to name only a few - adaptation has become an urgent necessity. The ability to 'adapt and benefit' through a suite of climate change adaptation interventions that build adaptive capacity is touted by many humanitarian and development institutions as integral to food security today. Abstract:
Thesis (Ph.D. (Geography)) -- University of Limpopo, 2020
Agriculture in South Africa, particularly in the summer rainfall areas, faces the challenge of optimal crop production in the face of climate change. Climate change scenarios for South Africa have been predicted to have a negative impact on agriculture particularly in the summer rainfall areas because of its dependence on climate variables. Within the context of the South African agricultural sector, it has become important to identify who and what is most vulnerable to impacts of climate change, so that support for adaptation can

Tese de doutoramento, Ciências Biológicas, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade do Algarve, 2016
Intensive aquaculture practices frequently expose fish to a range of stressors. Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) is the most important farmed species in the Mediterranean, and like in other vertebrates, exhibit pronounced individual differences in stress responsiveness, however to which extent such variability is part of coping styles remains unclear. As such, this Thesis aimed to provide methods and tools to analyse coping styles in seabream, with specific reference to the presence

MENVSC
Department of Ecology and Resource Management
Rodents can quickly respond to land use changes whether the change positively or negatively influences their life. In the case of positive influence, rodents exploit the additional food resources and increase their numbers to potential pest level, especially in the absence of predators. Such a population increase can potentially be harmful to humans due to the diseases that rodents carry and the costs due to damage to crops, stored foods and personal possessions that they may cause to small holder farmers. On the basis of these two main, this research has two broad objectives: (1) An analysis of the current management status and difficulties of large-scale farms, (2) An analysis of countermeasures adopted by large-scale farms against adjustments in the Kinmen Sorghum Contracted Cultivation System. Having adopted purposive sampling, this research concentrates on a case stu
