What aspects of young people's farming are visible with existing empirical windows? Do the young in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) farm differently? The analysis provides some support for many of the stylized assertions about the youth in African agriculture. This study sought to evaluate nutrient intakes of young children and their mothers from Pastoral, Agro-pastoral and Mixed farming system in Kenya.Mothers and their child were recruited from households in Narok south as part of the Animal Health Innovation Study. Abstract:
The challenges faced by farming communities, such as typhoons, floods, droughts, volcanic eruptions, and pest infestations, can pose significant costs to their livelihoods. This study examines the resilience of upland farming households using a small yet novel survey conducted in the municipality of Atok in Benguet. To analyze resilience, the study explores indicators based on the conceptual framework Schipper and Langston (2015) put forward, namely learning, options, and flexibility. Principal Components Analysis (PCA) was applied for index creation, while ordered logistic regression was empl

Abstract:
Using the three rounds of the Bangladesh Integrated Household Surveys, this study attempts to quantify the welfare effects of solar adoption. We discovered that solar adoption is connected with increased income, expenditure, and asset value growth, as well as a significant decrease in kerosene expenditure compared to non-adopters. Other findings include that solar households tend to abandon sharecropping in favor of trading and poultry farming, and that children in solar households benefit in terms of schooling and nutrition.

Abstract:
Livestock is an important component of mixed crop-livestock farming systems in the Singida Region in Tanzania, directly or indirectly contributing to household income, food security and poverty reduction among rural people in the region. This paper examined the effect of livestock on crop commercialisation and farmers’ livelihoods in the region. The complementarity between crops and livestock in the farming systems of Singida needs to be recognised, enhanced and utilised not only by farmers and livestock keepers, but also by local government authorities and development practitioners.

Abstract:
This paper studies the impact of access to electricity via solar-powered home systems (SHSs) in rural communities in Peru. Applying propensity score matching at the community as well as at the household level, the authors find that households with SHSs spend less on traditional sources of energy---candles and batteries for flashlights---and that the subsequent savings are commensurate to the fee for SHS use. People in households with SHSs spend more time awake, and women in particular change patterns of time use: they spend more time taking care of children, cooking, doing laundry, and weaving

Abstract:
The authors of this paper attempt use quantitative methods to determine the different factors of livelihood trajectories in the context of agricultural commercialisation. To do this, they draw on primary evidence from household surveys conducted over a span of ten years in Mchinji and Ntchisi districts, in rural Malawi. The authors hypothesise that households that are more commercialised are more likely to expand their investments in agriculture and/or take up livelihoods outside of agriculture. Crucially, they find that factors driving livelihood trajectories are not the same for farmers in d

Abstract:
To assess the impact of COVID-19 on local food systems and livelihoods, a total of 115 small-scale farming households (102 male- and 13 female headed) were interviewed from five communities (Lilanda, Luang (Mankanda), Masansa, Nshinso and Miloso (Tazara Corridor) surrounding the Mkushi Farm Block in the Central Province of Zambia between 30 September and 6 November 2020. The respondents were selected as a random sample, targeting 20-25 households per community or village. The small-scale farmers in these areas benefit from linkages with commercial farmers in the block.

Abstract:
Agricultural transformation towards intensive commercial production is a key facet of current development strategies pursued by African governments, aimed at improving welfare outcomes of farm households. However, in Zimbabwe, there is concern that increased commercialisation, especially through tobacco production, may have resulted in increased food and nutrition insecurity in the smallholder farming sector. Using data from two rounds of surveys conducted in 2018 and 2020 of smallholder farmers, this study examined the impacts of cash crop and food-based commercialisation pathways on seasonal
