Abstract:
The article studies historical sources (diplomatic notes, correspondence, telegrams of the employees of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and presents a content analysis and a systematization. Most documents are being introduced into scientific use for the first time. The information basis is formed by previously unpublished materials of the Political Archive from the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire. The article attempts to characterize the documentary sources found in the archival file ‘The Journey of Emperor Wilhelm to Palestine’ that are dedicated to the Fashoda incident. The validity of the hypotheses of relevance of microhistorical plots in objective evaluation of crucial historical events is verified by traditional methods of historical research: comparative historical analysis, chronological approach, retrospective and perspective methods. The method of historical reconstruction helps to narrate the episode of Emperor Nicholas II’s telegram to Kaiser Wilhelm II in the circumstances of the developing Fashoda crisis. The author takes into account the assessments found in Russian sources. A variety of official and unofficial documents allows to clarify and to correct existing ideas about the resolution of the Fashoda question in 1898. The article is the first to examine the history of the Fashoda crisis in the diplomatic correspondence between Nicholas II and Wilhelm II. The correspondence focuses on the role of Russian consul-general in Beirut K. N. Lishin. The author concludes that Lishin's excessive diligence and fear to harm his own career bolstered the diplomatic incident concerning the telegram and compounded the diplomatic situation around Fashoda. The archival file ‘The Journey of Emperor Wilhelm to Palestine’ yet again demonstrates a strong connection between the event and the policies of the great powers in the Middle East and Europe. To understand the history of international relations it is important to research not just the relevant topics and cases, but to study the whole complex of diplomatic sources of the period.

Abstract:
Methodologists and substantive scholars alike agree that one of process tracing’s foremost contributions to qualitative research is its capacity to adjudicate among competing explanations of a phenomenon. Existing approaches, however, only provide explicit guidance on dealing with mutually exclusive explanations, which are exceedingly rare in social science research. I develop a tripartite solution to this problem. The Relationships among Rivals (RAR) framework (1) introduces a typology of relationships between alternative hypotheses, (2) develops specific guidelines for identifying which relationship is present between two hypotheses, and (3) maps out the varied implications for evidence collection and inference. I then integrate the RAR framework into each of the main process-tracing approaches and demonstrate how it affects the inferential process. Finally, I illustrate the purchase of the RAR framework by reanalyzing a seminal example of process-tracing research: Schultz’s (2001) analysis of the Fashoda Crisis. I show that the same evidence can yield new and sometimes contradictory inferences once scholars approach comparative hypothesis testing with this more nuanced framework.

Abstract:
Records of 4184 N'Dama calves born between 1947 and 1984 at Fashola Stock Farm, Oyo State, Nigeria was used to compute inbreeding coefficient and determine its effects on calving intervals of cows. Only 273 of the 4184 calves (6.53%) were inbred with an average inbreeding coefficient of 9.71%, while five out of 293 sires had inbreeding coefficient of 9.25% and 43 out of 1849 dams had inbreeding coefficient of 9.95%. The inbreeding coefficient for the entire population was 0.63%, respectively 0.70% and 0.58% for male and female calves. The average calving interval was 445.34 ± 2.68 days within the herd while year of birth, parity of dam, age of dam and dam's age at first calving all significantly (P<0.05) impacted calving intervals of cows. Season of birth and inbreeding coefficient of dam did not exert statistical (P>0.05) influence on calving intervals of dams. Although the number of inbred animals in the population is relatively low, however the inbreeding level of these animals is high, which may be attributed to the fact that breeding policy on the farm was not strictly adhered to, and lack of proper and adequate registration system coupled with inconsistent animal identification system on the farm may be responsible for the inbreeding observed in the N'Dama population at Fashola Stock Farm.

Abstract:
Records on birth weight (BW), preweaning daily gain (PWG) and weaning weight (WW) of Ndama beef cattle were obtained from the Fashola Livestock Farm in Oyo State of Nigeria between 1954 and 1964 and were analyzed to estimate the phenotypic and genetic parameters of preweaning performances of this breed of cattle. For birth weight, preweaning daily gain and weaning weight respectively heritability was estimated as 0.13 ± 0.08, 0.30 ± 0.14 and 0.25 ± 0.12 from paternal half-sib relationship. The estimates of genetic and phenotypic correlations obtained from these data among the three pre-weaning traits were found to be similar to those already in the general literature on beef cattle.

Abstract:
Data collected on 1438 male and 1492 female pure bred N'Dama calves calved between 1948 and 1961 at Fashola Stock farm were used to study the relationship between five N'Dama cattle linear measurements at pre and post Weaning ages. The measurements were Head to Shoulder (HDS); Shoulder to tail drop (STD); Height at withers (HTW); Heart girth (HGT) and Body length (BLT). All measurements had positive values which ranged from 0.2 - 91 except HTW and HDS which had a negative value (-02) in males at yearling age. There was a predominance of positive and highly significant relationship (P<0.01) between height measurement (HTW) and circumference measurement (HGT) which ranged from .04 - .76 with pre weaning measurements having higher values (.69 - .76) in both sexes. High and positive correlation values were also observed between length measurements (HDS, STD and BLT) which therefore shows that only one of such measurements is sufficient for length measurement Generally measurements taken at pre weaning had higher correlation values than those taken at post weaning.

There are most important features hiding in the higher-order statistics information of the images. They are extracted by classical fast-fixed independent component analysis (FastICA algorithm) which requires a large amount of calculation and it is sensitive on the selection of initial point. To overcome the two shortcomings, an improved FastICA algorithm is proposed and mathematical models are constructed. And they are applied to obtain the basic vectors from the images. Finally, take litchi fruit image in natural environment as an instance and experiment with Matlab software. The results show that there are less computation and stronger stability of the improved FashICA algorithm used to extract image features.

Abstract:
This research is motivated by the reality of media coverage in constructing political figures for mayoral candidates who campaign through these media. Through the media agenda setting theory, the author examines the SeruJambi.com media in reporting Syarif Fasha as one of the candidates for the Jambi Mayor's candidate in 2018. The analysis goes through three things, namely: message framing, use of words and objectivity. The research method used is interpretive qualitative by emphasizing written sources in the form of documenting the contents of Syarif Fasha's news on the online media SeruJambi.com. The results of the study found that there was an imbalance in Seru Jambi.com in constructing the news of Syarif Fasha as one of the candidates for the Mayor of Jambi 2018. There is a message framing strategy in reporting the daily life of the candidate. The use of words with a simplification strategy from scientific language into everyday language, repetition of words as a pointer to the core idea of the news, synonyms (similar words) by writing different words to prevent boredom. Similarity of topics to clarify a previous sentence, as a framing strategy to highlight the main idea of the news

Epilepsy is a brain disorder which affects about 50 million people worldwide. Ineffectiveness of the drugs in some cases and the serious side effects and chronic toxicity of the antiepileptic drugs lead to use of herbal medicine as a form of complementary and alternative medicine. In this review modern evidences for the efficacy of antiepileptic medicinal plants in Traditional Iranian Medicine (TIM) will be discussed. For this purpose electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Sciencedirect, and Google Scholar were searched for each of the antiepileptic plants during 1970-February 2013.Anticonvulsant effect of some of the medicinal plants mentioned in TIM likeAnacyclus pyrethrum, Pimpinella anisum, Nigella sativa, andFerula gummosawas studied with different models of seizure. Also for some of these plants likeNigella sativaorPiper longumthe active constituent responsible for antiepileptic effect was isolated and studied. For some of the herbal medicine used in TIM such asPistacia lentiscusgum (Mastaki),Bryonia alba(Fashra),Ferula persica(Sakbinaj),Ecballium elaterium(Ghesa-al Hemar), andAlpinia officinarum(Kholanjan) there is no or not enough studies to confirm their effectiveness in epilepsy. It is suggested that an evaluation of the effects of these plants on different epileptic models should be performed.

Abstract:
This study examined the seasonal variations in the physicochemical properties of soil around the vicinity of an iron smelting factory in Fashina area, Ile-Ife, with the aim of monitoring the impact on the soil characteristics, nutrient availability and its possible consequence on the surrounding vegetation. Four study plots, each measuring 50 × 50 m were selected around the iron and smelting Factory. Soil samples were collected randomly and analysed during the rainy and dry seasons at a depth of 0-20 cm, representing the top soil using soil auger. The soil samples were analysed for particle size, soil texture, pH and availability of some basic soil nutrient such as nitrogen, organic carbon, potassium, phosphorus, etc. The study revealed that the physicochemical properties of soil in focus varied across the plots, which may be a consequence of the gradient created by the citing of iron smelting factory, but the data obtained did not significantly varied within the seasons. Furthermore, high organic matter was recorded in all the plots under study; this might be due to the fact that the study area was rich in clay. More clayey soils generally tend to contain higher levels of organic matter, mainly because of the tendency of clays to slow down microbial degradation of organic matter, as clays form clay-humus complexes with organic matter. Also, the heavy metal distribution varied within the two seasons, as most of the metals showed high level of concentration in the rainy season.

Abstract:
A field study of cowpea, soybean and maize was made at Ibadan, Nigeria, to determine the uptake of mineral nutrients and quantities removed in crop residues and seed. Concentrations of N, the major cations (K, Ca, Mg and Na) and major anions (P, S and Cl), and the micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu) were determined in shoots harvested at flowering and maturity. Concentrations of excess cations in shoots at flowering were 135 cmolc kg−1 for soybean, 158 cmolc kg−1 for cowpea and 58 cmolc kg−1 for maize. In crop residues and seed at maturity, the values decreased to 75 and 56 cmolc kg−1 respectively for soybean, 68 and 27 cmolc kg−1 respectively for cowpea, and 52 and 10 cmolc kg−1 respectively for maize. Nutrient and excess cation concentrations were also measured in 13 soybean and eight cowpea lines grown in replicated field trials at Fashola in the derived savanna zone and Shika in the northern Guinea savanna zone of Nigeria to assess the variation within these species. Maize, mucuna and lablab were included at these sites. The results are discussed in the context of soil nutrient depletion due to removal of nutrient elements in harvested seed and stover. The contribution of seed and stover removal to the proton (H+) budget and acidification of the soil is also discussed. It is estimated that the quantity of lime required to neutralize the acidity resulting from the removal of 1 t seed is 28 kg for soybean, 14 kg for cowpea and 5 kg for maize. The corresponding values for stover were soybean 35, cowpea 24 and maize 26 kg lime t−1 stover. Given the soil pH buffer capacity at the Ibadan site for the surface 16 cm, the yields obtained and assuming that seed and crop residues are removed, carbon cycle acidification would lead to a fall of 1 pH unit after 75 crops for soybean, 114 crops for cowpea and 68 crops for maize. The inclusion of legumes in cropping systems to increase N supply, and the use of P fertilizer to maximize N-fixation by legumes will raise production, but will inevitably accelerate removal of alkalinity and nutrients in harvested products, and the consequent decline in soil fertility. The data presented in this paper can be used in estimating the lime and fertilizer nutrients needed to maintain soil fertility and sustain yields.

Abstract:
This quantitative analytical study aims to discuss; the statistically significant differences in the measurement corresponding standard error of the internal consistency coefficient, for Raven' scores of successive matrix tests, which are attributed to: the studies characteristics that used the test. The relationship between the sample size and the internal consistency coefficient of successive matrix test scores, and finally the relationship between the coherence coefficient of internal consistency, the standard error of measurement and the standard deviation in Raven successive matrix tests. The study adopted the descriptive approach using Mata-analysis, and the use of the Fasha-Haas method for post-analysis to confirm the scores of Raven successive matrix tests. The study population consisted of (249) Arab and foreign studies that applied Raven successive matrices tests. The study sample consisted of (56) Arab and foreign studies which applied successive matrix tests. The findings revealed that; there is no statistically significant differences (p>.05) in the internal consistency coefficients and SEM due to the gender. However, there were statistically significant differences (p<.05) between the studies of the RPMT in the internal consistency coefficients and SEM due to the environment of the test administration, age category, and type of the RPMT. Further, the size of the reliability coefficient is not influenced by the size of the sample. Yet, there was a statistically significant (p< .05) positive relationship between sample size and SEM. Also, a statistically significant (p< .05) negative relationship was found between the size of the reliability coefficient and the SEM after controlling for standard deviation of the test scores. Keywords: meta-analysis, sequential matrices, stability coefficient, re-application, standard errors.

Abstract:
Abstract The Comité de l'Afrique française, founded in 1890, is often regarded as the epitome of colonial nationalism. On closer examination, however, the Comité and its signature policy, the Chad plan, can be shown to have acted as instruments of choice for financial and commercial lobbies with particular interests in the Congo. The Chad plan and its successor and complement, the Upper Nile policy, were primarily intended to advance the interests of King Leopold and his French sympathizers. The unavoidable clash with British strategic and commercial interests in the region that ensued helped to unleash the forces of nationalism and led, ineluctably, to the Fashoda crisis and the conquest of Chad.

Abstract:
This study assessed the radioactivity levels and transfer factor of natural radionuclides around iron and steel smelting company located in Fashina village, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. This was with a view to evaluate the exposure rate of the study area, determine the radionuclides present and activity concentration (238U and 232Th and 40K) in the samples and evaluate the soil-to-food transfer ratio of the radionuclides. A portable survey meter with a Global Positioning System (GPS) were used for in-situ investigation and a well-calibrated NaI(Tl) detector system was used for the radioactivity measurement of the samples. A total of 38 samples comprising soil, food and water were collected at the study area (Fashina) and control area (Opa) in Osun state, Nigeria for spectrometry analysis. The soil and food samples were oven dried, pulverized and sieved while water samples were acidified with 10 mL of 11 M HCl per litre to prevent adsorption of radionuclides with the wall of the container. All the samples were then sealed and kept for at least 28 days in radon impermeable cylindrical container so as to reach secular equilibrium. The mean exposure rates in the study area were 0.14 µSv hr-1 and 0.12 µSv hr-1 for the control environment. The mean radioactivity content obtained for 238U, 232Th and 40K were 12.14 ± 4.17 Bq kg-1, 23.23 ± 7.67 Bq kg-1 and 270.14 ± 61.79 Bq kg-1 respectively in soil samples and 8.56 ± 2.80 Bq kg-1, 13.17 ± 4.48 Bq kg-1 and 89.41 ± 24.15 Bq kg-1 respectively in food samples. Similarly it was 7.64 ± 2.95 Bq L-1, 10.04 ± 3.43 Bq L-1 and 69.04 ± 15.49 Bq L-1 respectively for 238U, 232Th and 40K in water samples. The transfer factor from soil to food for 238U, 232Th and 40K were calculated from the activity concentrations of soil and food, while the means were 0.73, 0.61, and 0.39 respectively in the study area.

Asian Research Journal of Arts & Social Sciences, April 20, 2020, 33–43. http://dx.doi.org/10.9734/arjass/2020/v10i430156.

Abstract:
Several researchers have posited that political inaugural speeches embody several meanings that help the politician connect with their audience as well as convey the new administration’s commitment to leadership. This study argues that inaugural speeches also provide a glimpse into the future trajectory of a country or state. This study used Martin and White’s (2005) Appraisal Theory to investigate stance taking in the first inaugural speeches of the following governors of Lagos State: Bola Ahmed Tinubu (1999-2007), Babtunde Raji Fashola (2007-2015) and Akinwunmi Ambode (since 2015). Findings from the study demonstrate that the speeches not only predict the roadmap of the future of Lagos State or proclaim the actions of the Governors and the supposed effects of their past and future actions, but they also contain attitudinal meanings of affect, judgement and appreciation used to connect and communicate effectively with the audience, and also to present the future plans for the development of the state. These findings portray that stance taking in political inaugural speeches is a mechanism used by politicians to galvanise solidarity and support from state, boast about past performances, pledge allegiance to the positive development of the state and call upon citizens to work unanimously with them. These findings corroborate those of the researchers cited above, explicate the nature of the use of language in inaugural speeches, and also maintain that political inaugural speeches give access to the knowledge of the historical development of a political sphere as a result of the stance embedded in them.

Abstract:
This paper aims to know the model of da'wa done by kiai, and about da'wah has been discussed by (Ahmad Anas: 2006; Atmawati Dwi: 2009; and Anshori Anhar: 1984). While about humor has been discussed by (Muhammad Rohmadi: 2009; Wuri Soedjatmiko: 1991; I Dewa Putu Wijana: 2004; Danandjaja: 2001). Everything has a meaning so that humor is not a goal, but just a medium. For that purpose, the authors use a sociolinguistic perspective, as has been discussed by (Roger T. Bell: 1995; Ralp Fashold: 1990; J. A. Fishman: 1972). Therefore, what is done by Kiai Latif in his dakwah using various humorous models, such as anecdotes, comparisons, plesetan and others (Victor Raskin: 1944, James Danandjaja: 1986). Certainly, what is done by Kiai Latif in his da'wah that uses the language of dakwah humor still in the corridor of da'wah, that is as a means to invite people to not be dissolved in things that are not pleaded by Allah SWT, including inconsistent with the teachings applied by Prophet Muhammad SAW (Andy Darmawan: 2002; Clifford Geertz: 1981; Jakfar Puteh Saifullah: 2006; Aminah Mochtar: 2000).
