Abstract:
“Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying, ‘Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company in Korah, but died for his own sin; and he had no sons. Why should the name of our father be taken away from his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father's brethren.’ Moses brought their case before the Lord. And the Lord said to Moses, ‘The daughters of Zelophehad are right; you shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. And you shall say to the people of Israel, ‘If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.”’ (Numbers 27:1–8; cf. also chap. 36.)

Abstract:
Moses and Monotheism is Freud's last book on religion. It was published in its entirety only after his flight from Nazi-occupied Vienna. Moses is perhaps Freud's most controversial book on religion. It is both an apology and a curse. It is a critique of traditional Judaism (by way of an Oedipal analysis of a deified Moses), a defence of a modern humanistic Judaism (a Judaism of moral and intellectual values), and a bitter critique of Christianity (a religion not of the Father but of the sons, a failed religion, which expresses its failure in anti-Semitism). A defiant and rebellious book, one might say, one in which an old man rises to meet his fate and does so with surprising wilfulness and vigour. But Moses also reveals a dogmatic Freud defending a critique of religion that is intellectually flawed and politically misdirected.

Abstract:
Dr. Fatoohi and Prof. al-Dargazelli have produced an intriguing and farreachingcomparison of the Bible and the Qur' an relating to Moses and theIsraelites. Both authors are kha/ifahs of Shaykh Muhammad al-Casnazanial-Husseini of the Aliyyah Qadiriyyah Casnazaniyyah Sufi tariqah. Theyhold degrees in physics from Baghdad University and Durham University, and have authored numerous books, especially on Sufism, in Arabic andEnglish.Although readers might expect this book to address literary and culturalissues surrounding the shared but different accounts of Moses and theIsraelites in the Bible and the Qur'an, the authors have chosen to focus ondemonstrating the Qur'an's historical accuracy. Dividing their book intoIO chapters, they argue alternately that the Bible is inconsistent and historicallyinaccurate, while the Qur'an is consistent and confirmed byexternal historical evidence. The Biblical account of Moses and theIsraelites is not directly compared to the Qur'anic account; rather, theBible is used primarily as a foil to emphasize what the authors see as theQur'an's reliability. For example, while the authors point out that the Bibleappears to give various names for Moses' father-in-law (Exodus 2: I 8, 3: I, ...

Abstract:
Abstract This article makes the case that the citation of Manetho’s Aegyptiaca found within Josephus’ Contra Apionem 1.250 is the work of a later anti-Jewish interpolator. Within the passage is an unnoticed chiasm that artificially binds the description of Osarsiph/Moses there with the Osarsephos introduced earlier in C. Ap. 1.238–9. It further suggests that the reason a negative depiction of Moses is not more fully integrated into Manetho’s story is the result of the interpolator inferring Manetho’s negative evaluation of the Jews as a result of his negative evaluation of the Hyksos. Manetho is, in other words, not the father of Egyptian anti-Judaism, though an anonymous editor may well be.

Abstract:
An image of A. Voloshyn as a founder of national revival of the Carpathian Ukraine (Carpatho-Ukraine), emergence and evolution of its usage, genre and stylistic features of press publications have been analyzed on the basis of the West Ukrainian periodicals in the late 1930s. For the first time, A. Voloshyn’s designation as a «father», «father of the people», as well as a «national awakener», a «preacher» is found in the newspaper publications in 1934, when the Ukrainian public celebrated his 60th anniversary. At these celebrations, A. Voloshyn also welcomed the orphans whom he had donated his home and whom he had taken care of. It was them who first called him «father», and the public, thereafter, called him «father of orphans». The Western Ukrainian press began calling A. Voloshyn as «the father of national revival of the Carpathian Ukraine» in the period of the Carpathian Ukraine. In the journalists’ viewpoint of that time, this word was best suited to characterize A. Voloshyn, a great patriot and leader of Transcarpathian Ukrainians, a gentle, moderate and tolerant man. Throughout his activities, there was a sign of warmth in his father’s heart, combined with a deep sense of responsibility and rigor. In the context of the analysis of the people’s reverence and love for A. Voloshyn as the «father of Carpathian Ukraine», it should be noted that it had nothing to do with the cult of the then political leaders of Germany, Italy and the USSR. As a spiritual and socio-political leader, A. Voloshin fought for the rights of his people throughout all his conscious life, wrote and published textbooks and newspapers at his own expense, as well as maintained orphanages and raised more than a generation of nationally conscious teachers. All his spiritual, socio-political and cultural activities enabled him to become a model of altruistic patriotic work. He became a man who not only by self-sacrificing work for the weal of his people as well as his martyr death in the Moscow’s NKVD torturer chambers proved a devotion to his nation and his beliefs. Keywords: Avgustyn Voloshyn, the Carpathian Ukraine (Carpatho-Ukraine), «father of people», Moses, national revival.

Abstract:
This article contends that Ibn Taymiyya was not only a theologian and jurist, but also a Qur'anic exegete (mufassir). As a mufassir, Ibn Taymiyya began an important exegetical shift away from the Ashʿarī philological tradition to one that was more ḥadīth-based and relied on the traditions of the early community (salaf). However, by examining exegetical writings composed after his Muqaddima fī uṣūl al-tafsīr (‘Introduction to the Principles of tafsīr’), this article demonstrates that Ibn Taymiyya employs philology and Biblical material as hermeneutic tools. He draws on the Bible to argue that Moses’ father-in-law could not have been the Arab prophet Shuʿayb, as many exegetes had claimed, but rather the Biblical Jethro (Yathrā). The Bible clearly states that Moses’ father-in-law was Jethro which is in accordance with the authentic sayings of the companions and successors. Moreover, drawing on Biblical history, Ibn Taymiyya contends that the messengers of Sūrat Yā Sīn could not have been the Disciples of Jesus but rather prophets sent before the time of Christ. The messengers of Sūrat Yā Sīn were sent to a people who were destroyed because of their disbelief, while the Disciples were sent to Antioch which believed in their call. Thus, we see that Ibn Taymyya's exegetical engagements revolve around theology in seeking to better define prophecy.

Abstract:
The paper focuses on the artistic work of Moses Levy (Tunis, 1885 - Viareggio, 1968), painter and printmaker active in Italy, Tunisia and Paris. A peculiar figure of cosmopolitan painter, whose father was British and the mother Italian, and whose art eludes attempts at univocal classification. On the contrary, it remains emblematic of the fruitfulness made possible by the encounter between different artistic traditions, as well as the reciprocal enrichment offered by the plurality of cultures. Deeply linked by birth to the Jewish community in Tunis, he moved to Italy at a very young age, where he came into contact with the major exponents of the Tuscan school of painting around the turn of the century, starting with Giovanni Fattori. Constantly commuting between the two shores of the Mediterranean, he became an example of dialogue between different worlds, between his African roots, his Tuscan upbringing, his French-speaking culture and his stays in Paris, where he met Chagall and Picasso and could not fail to find a natural identification with Matisse’s pure rhythms and solar charge. A regular exhibitor at the Salons Tunisiens, in 1936 he was a co-founder of the Le Quatre group and later one of the promoters of the École de Tunis. Thus, the local artists saw in Levy the master who had been able to promote the birth of a modern art that was representative of Tunisian culture and people, but free from any easy Orientalist stereotype or folkloric flavour.

Soft tissue sarcomas are mesenchymal origin neoplasms collectively classified according to histological characteristics and biological behaviour similiarities. Various neoplasms are included in this major group, as fibrosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma, peripheral nerve sheath tumor, myxosarcoma, liposarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, rhabdomiosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, synovial cell sarcoma and undifferentiated sarcoma. The microvessel density measure has been applied to investigate tumor angiogenesis in many neoplasms. The objectives of this study were to evaluate de microvessel density in canine and feline soft tissue sarcomas and compare the general vessel measurement area and intense vascular areas hot spot. Those data were compared to usually applied prognostic factors like mitotic index, necroses presence and amount and cellular differentiation. Soft tissue sarcomas were collected in Laboratório Regional de Diagnóstico da Universidade Federal de Pelotas from 1978 to 2008 among canine and feline necropsies and biopsies. In a total of 1668 neoplasms cases during this period, 100 were soft tissue sarcomas, 87 canine and 13 feline. Sex prevalence was not observed in the analyzed species. The major prevalence in canine were hemangiosarcomas (n=34) and fibrosarcomas (n=20), being the mongrel dogs (n=35) most. The large breeds presented major frequence (n=22), followed by medium size (n=16) and small sized breeds (n=9). . In feline population, there were not accentuated prevalence, exciding hemangiosarcomas (n=4) and fibrosarcomas (n=4). In those 100 cases, 39 paraffin blocks were obtained, being 36 canine and 3 feline, mostly mongrel specimens, with 9,21(±2,99) medium age. The general vascular and hot spot areas were significantly correlated (r2=0,98; p<0,01). The mitotic index between areas were in those areas (r2=0,95, p<0,01). Hemangiosarcomas presented major vascular media in the techniques, followed by muscular sarcomas and fibrosarcomas (p<0,05). The microvessel density in soft tissue sarcomas do not present correlation to other prognostic factor usually applied. Hot spot areas can be utilized to determine the vascular degree and mitotic index in soft tissue sarcomas.

Abstract:
In contemporary society, distinct traditions are bleeding into one another, blurring traditional lines of inquiry and historically significant boundaries. This phenomenon frames this project and creates the context for the Yoga-Christian praxis dialogue this study constructively critiques. Unfortunately, this dialogue exhibits an Eliadean concern for essentialism and universality. I challenge this trend by juxtaposing two distinct texts, Patañjali‘s Yoga-Sūtra and Gregory of Nyssa’s Life of Moses. These texts point to the similar idea that without striving and personal transformation neither the yogic practitioner nor practicing Christian logically subsists. More importantly, however, from this point of correspondence I constructively critique the Yoga-Christian praxis dialogue by concretely engaging these texts and paying particular attention to the differences inherent in them. My comparison, then, suggests how attention to particularity points to a more authentic dialogue: what I wish to call a dialogue of distinction without separation.

Abstract:
Advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients have a dismal prognosis. Efforts to increase benefit from chemotherapy are needed and dose-dense chemotherapy could be an option, since this approach has demonstrated survival benefit in breast cancer. On the other hand, the identification of a prognostic marker is essential to stratify which patients could benefit most from intensified strategies. Ezrin is a member of the ERM (ezrin, radixin, moesin) cytoeskeleton-associated protein family associated with invasion and metastasis, and has been pointed as important prognostic marker in sarcomas. The objective of this study was to explore the role of dose-dense doxorubicin- and ifosfamide-based chemotherapy in advanced high grade STS patients. Primary endpoint was response rate and secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS), progression free survival (PFS), toxicity profile, quality of life and pain control evaluation. Tumor ezrin immunoreactivity was an exploratory endpoint as a predictor of response to chemotherapy and as a prognostic factor in this population, trying to find which patients could benefit most from this intensified strategy. This prospective, single arm, phase II study included 21 advanced STS patients. Median age was 37 years (23-60y) and lower limbs were the most frequent primary site. Synovial, leiomyo and unclassified sarcoma were the most common histologies. Protocol consisted of 6 cycles of sequential dose-dense doxorubicin 30 mg/m2 D1-3 and ifosfamide 2.5 g/m2 D1-5 every 14 and 21 days, respectively, followed by seven days of hematopoietic support. The median doxorubicin and ifosfamide dose-intensities were, respectively, 42 mg/m2/week and 3.63 g/m2/week (93% and 87% of planned, respectively) and 15 patients (71%) received all cycles. Grade 3/4 toxicities occurred in 19 patients and 77/105 cycles, febrile neutropenia in 5 patients (six cycles) and three LVEF drops of at least 10%, one symptomatic. No renal toxicity was observed what could occurred due to the two-hour-schedule of ifosfamide. Responses were evaluated by RECIST criteria and three patients presented partial response (response rate of 14%). Six responses were necessary to the inclusion of the target population, however, this was not observed and the study was closed. Three deaths were probably related to toxicity. After a median follow-up was 11 months, PFS and OS were 8.1 months and 20.1 months, respectively. Patients with synovial sarcoma and those younger than 45y presented better survival at univariate analysis. Ezrin expression was positive in 10 patients (47%) and a trend was observed for a correlation between positive ezrin expression and longer survival (p= 0.1191). There was a statistically significant correlation between positive ezrin expression and synovial hystology (Fishers exact test, p= 0.0325). This sequential dosedense doxorubicin/ifosfamide-based chemotherapy protocol was toxic, response rate was low in advanced STS patients and can not be considered for routine practice outside clinical trials

NGF (nerve growth factor) is an endogenous protein secreted in the central and peripheral nervous system, playing different roles, such as neuroprotection, development and neuronal differentiation, neurite outgrowth and synaptic plasticity. Synthesized in the neocortex and hippocampus, NGF acts on populations of cholinergic, sensory and sympathetic neurons through interaction with TrkA and p75NTR receptors. It is related neuropathologies such as Alzheimer's disease, hyperalgesia and hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathologies types IV and V, which were identified the mutations S187N and R221W, respectively. Despite the vast knowledge of the action of pathways related to NGF and its receptors, the molecular mechanisms of interaction as well as the activation of the internal signalling pathways of the receptors are still not fully understood. Through the normal modes analysis approach, the structural changes of the mutants compared to wild type NGF were investigated from the perspective of protein structure. Significant changes in global movements correlation, complex flexibility, molecular interactions and conformational freedom were found for both mutations. Structural changes and conformational limitations in the receptors were observed, as reflecting the action of NGF mutants, indicating that even after the interaction neurotrophin and receptor form an active complex. Thus, mutations in the NGF reduce the ability of activated complex formation by structural and conformational changes, causing impairment to biological functions derived from the interaction.

In adult individual, angiogenesis occurs particularly in pathological situations as tumors growth, development of metastasis and in the wound healing process. The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main agent involved in tumor angiogenesis. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the circulating levels of VEGF in the serum of dogs suffering from soft tissue sarcoma and its relation with the blood cells, and also the expression of VEGF and the micro vascular density in tumors specimens. A group of health animals was used as control. The control group and treatment group were composed of 30 male dogs 25 dogs (18 males and 7 castrated females) respectively. The blood collection was carried once in the control group and three times in the animals with sarcoma (timely, pre-surgery, two weeks and three months post-surgery) following the same protocol. The blood was processed and a quantitative method ELISA (enzime-linked immunosorbent assay) was used to determinate of the levels of VEGF. The expression of the VEGF and the microvascular density were investigated by means of the immunohistochemical test using anti-VEGF and anti-factor VIII antibodies respectively. There was no difference between serum level of VEGF of the controls animals and serum level of VEGF in the animal with soft tissue sarcoma in pre-surgical time. Serum level of VEGF in pre-surgical time revealed discrete increased in relation the two weeks and three months of post-surgery. There was a positive correlation between serum VEGF and neutrophils counting and negative correlation between the VEGF and amount of haemoglobin in the animals with sarcoma. The animals with hemangiopericytoma showed a trend to higher levels of VEGF in relation to the malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. The expression of the VEGF was detected in 65% of the cases; the hemangiopericytoma is the one that expressed greater intratumoral amount of VEGF. There was no difference in the microvascular density between the negative and positive tumors to the VEGF. The results suggest contribution of the circulating blood cells for the levels of serum VEGF of the of the dogs with of soft tissue sarcomas, tumors cells and other cells types seem to be responsible for tumor angiogenesis, but they don\'t contribute for rise serum level of VEGF.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Surgery combined with adjuvant radiotherapy provides high rates of limb sparing and local control for adult extremity soft tissue sarcomas, but is still associated with high rates of local morbidity and distant recurrences. The role of adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy is still controversy and target of clinical investigations. The identification of molecular predictive factors of response to chemotherapy could select patients who have benefits or not with its use. OBJECTIVES: to identify gene expression profiles that discriminate tumors with respect to response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Analyze the preliminary results of a protocol of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in soft tissue sarcomas. METHODS: samples were collected from subjects of a single-arm prospective clinical trial that investigates the effectiveness of a neoadjuvant doxorubicin and ifosphamide-based chemotherapy regimen in high grade extremity soft tissue sarcomas in adults. Gene expression profiles were determined by the analysis of cDNA microarrays. RESULTS: 14 patients were included in the clinical trial and six samples were used in the molecular study. 222 sequences differentially expressed between responders and non responders were identified. Among the genes with higher differences in expression, we have identified genes involved with TGF signaling pathway, angiogenesis, extracelular matrix degradation and development. The objective response rate to neoadjuvant chemotherapy was 28,6%, the amputation rate was 7,1%, and the wound complication rate was 23%. Grades 3 and 4 complications have occurred in 50 % of the cases, but no deaths or modifications on surgical intent related to chemotherapy complications have occurred. CONCLUSIONS: tumors considered responders to neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed a gene expression profile significantly different from non responders, especially with respect to the TGF signaling pathway. The neoadjuvant regimen tested has showed to be effective and safe to be considering for a phase III clinical trial

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the consensus view of biblical scholars that Moses wrote the Pentateuch. It explains that the Pentateuch is the first five books of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. It also mentions the Church father Jerome's suggestion that Ezra the Priest wrote the Pentateuch in the fifth century BC based on notes made by Moses. The chapter explains that since the sixth century AD, doubts have been expressed about whether Moses was the author of all the Pentateuch. But it was only in the mid-seventeenth century that the first relatively systematic discussion of the issue appeared and by the late nineteenth century, the scholarly consensus began to turn against Moses being the author of any part of the Pentateuch.

Abstract:
Personal and financial loss continued to blight Isaac, Joshua, and their children’s lives. Joshua and Isaac immersed themselves in business, and left the child rearing to the unwed Moses sisters. Bookkeeping wasn’t the men’s forte: they lived beyond their means in a fashionable neighborhood near St. John’s Park, where they were joined briefly by Isaac’s father Abraham Rodrigues Brandon, his new mistress, and his second brood of children. When Brandon’s death left Isaac guardian of his younger half-siblings, he enrolled them in British Jewish boarding schools as per his father’s wishes. Then Joshua died unexpectedly, and Sarah’s children became utterly beholden to their Moses aunts and uncles. Increasingly, Isaac sought refuge on the island, the old controversy about whether he should count as a full Jew having been laid to rest.

Abstract:
Barbados’s floundering economy and racial strife pushed many Jews north to the United States, including Isaac Lopez Brandon and his former enslaver’s son, Moses Lopez. Once a prosperous Bridgetown store owner, Moses Lopez struggled in the cold North, settling first in New York, where his children attended the synagogue’s school, before moving on to Newport and Philadelphia. He reinvented himself as a doctor and dentist, but without much success. Religiously, he also floundered. In Barbados, Moses Lopez had helped run the synagogue, but Philadelphia’s congregation repeatedly refused his requests to become a member. It wasn’t until his mother died and he could pay off his debts and donate a chair that the synagogue took him in. Isaac, on the other hand, had better luck. His father and family paved his way through charitable donations. While not free from racism, Philadelphia was a place that valued self-made men, and Isaac fit right in.
