Abstract:
The experiment was conducted to investigate the factors related to small scale beef fattening programs in three upazilas (Birganj, Kaharul, and Khansama) under Dinajpur district of Bangladesh. Data were collected using an interview schedule from randomly selected 75 farmers who were involved in small scale beef fattening programs. In this study out of the 75 farmers 54.7% are involved in agriculture, 26.7% in business, 13.3% in service and 5.3% in beef fattening. About 44.7% farmers fattened beef for 3 months. Fifty six percent farmers used own capital for beef fattening, 24% took bank loan and remaining farmers lending from others sources. About 57.3% farmers had taken short training on beef fattening whereas about 42.7% did not take any training on beef fattening. More than 34.7% farmers used beef fattening tablets, 28.0% Urea Molasses Straw (UMS), 26.7% used Urea Molasses Block (UMB) in beef fattening. Sixty six percent farmers reported shortages of animal feed, 50% reported lack of credit and 93.3% reported high cost of feed as the major problems of small scale beef fattening. In conclusion, the result of present study would be useful information to farmers and researchers to identify the management of small scale beef fattening practices in Bangladesh.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/pa.v23i1-2.16563Progress. Abstract:
This research was undertaken to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the fattening enterprise and to study the economics of cattle fattening in the crop-livestock mixed production system, North Gondar, Ethiopia. Data was collected from 112 farmers from purposively selected three districts and two peasant associations. The Tobit analysis resulted labor availability in the households, duration of fattening (length of stay of oxen in the fattening period) and feed cost have found to affect the gain from fattening negatively. Experience of the farm operator, number of cattle in the fattening activity, frequency of fattening in the year and selling in the export market have significantly enhance the gain from the operation. Fattening is found seemingly paying and profitable for most of the farmers and could be considered as a farm-business which can be used as one of the strategies to achieve transformation of the subsistence agriculture to market oriented farm operation.

The results of the study of reproductive, fattening and meat quality of pigs in Vietnam loose belly breed «in a cleanness» and in crossing with the male hogs of large white breed are given in the article. It is set that the use of crossing leads to improvement of reproductive ability of sows on multiple pregnancy, large fetus, to living mass of one pigling. Gilts of the Vietnamese loose belly breed yielded to the crossbreed sapling on intensity of growth and development and slaughter-weight. Fattening of crossbreed genotypes was instrumental in the improvement of fattenings and meat qualities.

Abstract:
At present, two types of fattening are carried out in Iberian traditional pig production. The montanera is the fattening system where fatteners are fed on acorns and pasture in the dehesa, and cebo de campo is the fattening where the pigs are fed on compound feed and natural resources, mainly pasture. The aim of this paper is to analyze Iberian fattening production from an economic and environmental approach in order to identify fattening strategies to increase the sustainability of this traditional livestock activity. Based on technical-economic and environmental variables, the differences between Iberian farms according to the types of fattening were determined using discriminant analysis techniques. The model based on environmental variables showed a greater predictive ability than that found in the model based on technical-economic variables. Consequently, environmental variables can be used as reference points to classify the Iberian farms according to the type of fattening. Furthermore, canonical correlation analysis allowed to study the relationships between both sets of variables, showing that environmental values had a strong correlation with technical-economic variables. The results of this study show that it is possible to improve the sustainability of Iberian traditional pig production through fattening strategies in both types of fattening.

Abstract:
I prepared a “model farm” producing fattening pigs in order to examine the main risk of production and market factors affecting the profitability of fattening pig production. Values of body weight (at the beginning of fattening and at the end of fattening), mortality rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fattening pig as well as the main cost and price data were recorded as the input data of the model. Production value per unit, production cost per unit and income per unit were used as output. The Monte-Carlo simulation was used in the model for risk assessment. Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the production value per unit was most affected by the selling price of fattening pig (ß=0.972), the production cost per unit were most influenced by the body weight at the beginning of fattening (ß=0.567) and the feed conversion ratio (ß=0.537), in addition, the change of the income per unit was most determined by the previously factors.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to: (1) To know the cost of production, acceptance and income of brahman cattle fattening in Eastern OKU, (2) To know the added value of brahman cattle fattening in East OKU, (3) Feasibility of brahman cattle fattening business in East OKU Regency. The research was conducted in OKU Timur Regency, with purposive determination of the research location with the consideration that there are still a few businessmen of cattle fattening who choose to fatten brahman cow, whereas the brahman cattle fattening in OKU Timur Regency has good prospect. This is because demand brahman cows from year to year continues to increase, in addition to the brushed cattle brewing process is quite easy and in a relatively long time has gained profits. This research has been conducted in March 2015 until May 2015 on the brahman cattle fattening that already existed in East OKU Regency. This study found that the average cost of production for brahman cattle fattening business is Rp. 79.438.224, - / PP, with a flat fee of Rp. 3,588,335, - / PP, and variable cost of Rp. 75.849.889, - / PP. Receipt is Rp. 123.333.333, - / PP then obtained revenue of Rp. 43.895.109, - / PP (Rp 7,315,852, - / Month). The added value of brahman cattle fattening business in Kabupaten OKU Timur is Rp. 59.305.278, - / tail (Rp 118.610.555, - / PP or Rp 19.768.426, - / Month). Brahman cattle fattening business in East OKU district can be said to be profitable and feasible to do. This is because the brackish cattle fattening business obtained NPV value at the bank interest rate of 18% (Rp 85.691.855, -) with the value of Net B / C of 1.89 and the value of IRR 32.16% which means feasible or effort can be done Because advantageous. So, brahman cattle fattening in Regency OKU East have good prospect to be developed.

Frost, Andrew Ivan. "The effect of dietary substrate on the stimulation of appetite and rumen function in young calves." Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 1989. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.253619.

Full text
Abstract:
The stimulation of appetite for solid food is of paramount importance in the financial success of an early calf weaning system. In the present study, two production trials suggested that the replacement of the rolled barley (RB) component of a calf starter diet, with molassed sugar beet pulp (MSBP) or lucerne meal (LM), stimulated appetite, particularly before weaning. Despite continued improvements in voluntary food intake (VFI) after weaning, dietary differences were reduced, with no significant differences observed. The optimum level of MSBP inclusion in a barley based diet appeared to be in the range of 0.15-0.25 of diet DM. All diets bar one containing 0.55 MSBP, produced live weight gains (LWG) in excess of 0.7kg/d. However, the relationship between LWG and VFI was considerably stronger for barley based diets than those based on MSBP or LM. Metabolic studies suggested two possible explanations for the reduced LWG response to VFI as MSBP or LM replaced RB: a) inefficiency in ruminal fermentation and/or b) reduced nitrogen (N) digestibility. The reduction in N digestibility was correlated with an increased proportion of N bound to the ADF matrix. Further studies suggested that a microbial population capable of complete cell wall degradation was absent in the rumens of young calves up to 3 months of age. The results suggested that the availability and quality of the N leaving the rumen was reduced as MSBP or LM replaced RB. It was unclear from the present studies whether increased diet buffering capacity or a preference for feedstuffs other than RB could explain the potential improvements in VFI. A method was derivised to measure the buffering capacity in the rumen fluid of young calves which showed that the total VFA are the principal chemical component of the buffering system and the only rumen parameter found to make significant contributions to mathematical models accounting for variation in VFI. Rumen pH, although low, was not a regulator of VFI and accounted for only 0.03 of VFI variation.

Gavin, Colin Michael. "The fattening phenomenon for level set solutions of the mean curvature flow." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/61267.

Full text
Abstract:
Level set solutions are an important class of weak solutions to the mean curvature flow which allow the flow to be extended past singularities. Unfortunately, when singularities do develop it is possible for the Hausdorff dimension of the level set solution to increase. This behaviour is referred to as the fattening phenomenon. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss this phenomenon and to provide concrete examples, focusing especially on its relation to the uniqueness of smooth solutions. We first discuss the definition of level set solutions in arbitrary codimension, due to Ambrosio and Soner. We then prove some technical results about distance solutions, a type of set-theoretic subsolution to level set solutions. These include a new method of gluing together distance solutions. Next, we present several known results on the fattening phenomenon in the context of distance solutions. Finally, we provide a new example by proving that fattening occurs when immersed curves in ℝ³ develop self-intersections.

Mohamed, Wan Zahari. "Factors affecting body composition and mineral retention in growing lambs." Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 1988. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.327862.

Full text
Abstract:
In the studies described in this thesis the amounts of Ca, P and Mg retained by growing lambs were determined following the slaughter of the lambs and their analysis. In experiment 1, the effects of growth rate on body composition and mineral retention were studied. The lambs were grown at different rates from 24 kg to 50 kg live-weight. The composition of empty-body gain (EBG) was estimated based on an initial slaughter group at the beginning of the trial. Fast growing lambs contained more fat and less protein, ash, Ca and P than slow growing ones. However, in the fat-free empty-body (FFEB), there were no significant differences found attributable to growth rate, except for Mg which was decreased with slow growth. Supplementary CaCO3 significantly increased ash, Ca and P retention in FFEB of the fast growing lambs. In experiment 2, the retention of minerals from lambs fed either forage or concentrate diets was studied. Three groups of 8 Suffolk x Blackface wether lambs were (a) allowed to graze the grass outdoors (b) fed-concentrate indoors and (c) fed grass indoors. The lambs were grown from 24 kg and slaughtered at about 40 kg live = weight over 100 days. Retentions of Ca and P in empty-body gain (EBG) and fat-free empty-body gain (FFEBG) were significantly higher in grass-fed lambs. Higher mineralisation in the latter group was attributed to differences in acid-base balance between the diets and was not a function of either exercise or sunlight. Experiment 3 was designed to re-assess the requirements of Ca and P for growing lambs. Four groups of 10 Suffolk x Blackface lambs were fed concentrate diets containing different concentrations of Ca and P over a 93 day experimental period. Lambs fed on normal Ca-normal P diet (based on TCORN's (1988) new estimate) appeared to meet their requirement. Lambs fed on high Ca-high P diet showed no increase in mineral retention while those on low Ca-low P diet were more poorly mineralised. A high Ca-low P group had low concentration of P in blood and rumen liquor. Radiographic studies of the metacarpus and metatarsus from these trials were of limited value in predicting the mineral content of the empty-bodies of lambs.

The strand study aimed to analyze the performances of cattle from several genotypes, in a regime of intensive feeding, based on byproducts from the brewing industry (test A), as well as on a very concise economic analysis. The experience was based on 35 bovines from four different breeds (Frísia, Alentejana, Mertolenga and Cruzada). The animals were fed ad libitum during two to three months (depending on the type of weaning, early or traditional). We have also included in the present work some data about two other intensive feeding tests based on traditional diets, that is, using compound feed (generally known as animal feed) (test B, animal feed B-330; test C, animal feed Reagro), in order to compare the performance of the zootechnical parameters (average daily gain, GMD; conversion rate of dry matter, ICAMS; daily consumption of the feed focused on the present study, CDIP; daily consumption of hay/straw, CFDIP; weight gain rate, RGPIP) with those obtained in our test on the byproducts. It was found that there are differences not only among the fattenings, but also within the fattenings themselves. In the study of the feeding based on byproducts, the results were quite interesting in what the cattle of Alentejana and Frísia breeds are concerned, both showing an average daily gain (GMD) of 1,270 and 1,237 kg/day, respectively. The economic analysis, however, revealed a reduced efficiency in economic terms

Abstract:
The article presents the results of using the SmaXtec internal monitoring system for fattening calmyk calves up to 18 months with the inclusion of local natural feed additives in the diet. For 60 days of fattening, an absolute increase in live weight was obtained from 45 to 55 kg with an average daily increase of 800-900 grams. We studied the monitoring data – the pH level and temperature of the rumen, the activity of the animal during the fattening period when changing the feeding diet. Calculated the costs and cost of feed during fattening.

Abstract:
Lamb production dominates in organic sheep production, while milk production is much less present and very rare. There are usually two basic systems of breeding in lamb production: fattening of lambs on pasture and combined fattening of lambs. In organic goat breeding, the most common is the organic production of milk and dairy products, primarily quality goat cheeses. The cultivation system is usually a combination of grazing (summer half of the year) and stable cultivation (winter half of the year). Such agriculture provides amortization of the negative effects of social development on the ecosphere and the human population as a whole.

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to study the possibility of using automatic concentrate feeding stations in fattening of lambs. Ten Romanov × Dorper weaned male lambs (initial live weight 21.0 ± 0.86 kg) for fattening were used. Lambs were kept indoors in separate pen and research was carried out in production conditions. Concentrate was distributed for animals individually in automatic feeding station. Adaption period were not applied, eight lambs had the concentrate intake in the automatic feeding station from first research day, one started eat concentrate from third research day and one – from eleventh day of research. The frequency of visits to automatic feeding station and daily concentrate intake was recorded and analyzed. Lamb’s were weighted before research and every fourteen days, live weight changes were analyzed. During all the research average number of daily visits to automatic feeding station of one lamb were 13 visits, average daily concentrate intake per animal was: 84 % of the average ration (1642 g) in all research period. Results shows, that average daily live weight gain was 246 ± 26.3 g, during last quarter daily live weight gain (89 ± 27.7 g) was significantly (p < 0.05) lover than in other quarters. For 1 kg lamb live weight gain 5.39 kg concentrate was used.
