AbstractLet U(KλG) be the group of units of the infinite twisted group algebra KλG over a field K. We describe the FC-centre ΔU of U(KλG) and give a characterization of the groups G and fields K for which U(KλG) = ΔU. In the case of group algebras we obtain the Cliff-Sehgal-Zassenhaus theorem.

Abstract:
We recall that a group G is an FC-group if for every x∈G the set of conjugates {xg|g∈G} is a finite set. Our interest here is with those groups G which are not FC groups while every proper subgroup of G is an FC-group: such groups are called minimal non-FC-groups. Locally finite minimal non-FC-groups with (G ≠ G′ are studied in [1] and the structure of these groups is reasonably well understood. In [2] Belyaev has shown that a perfect, locally finite, minimal non-FC-group is either a simple group or a p-group for some prime p. Here we make use of the results of [5] to refine the result of Belyaev and provide a positive answer to problem 5·1 of [11]; in particular, we prove the followingTheorem. There exists no simple, locally finite, minimal non-FC-group.

AbstractA group $G$ is said to be an $FC$-group if each element of $G$ has only finitely many conjugates, and $G$ is minimal non$FC$ if all its proper subgroups have the property $FC$ but $G$ is not an $FC$-group. It is an open question whether there exists a group of infinite rank which is minimal non$FC$. We consider here groups of infinite rank in which all proper subgroups of infinite rank are $FC$, and prove that in most cases such groups are either $FC$-groups or minimal non$FC$.

We show that the twisted group $C^{\ast }$-algebra associated with a discrete FC-hypercentral group is simple (respectively, has a unique tracial state) if and only if Kleppner’s condition is satisfied. This generalizes a result of Packer for countable nilpotent groups. We also consider a larger class of groups, for which we can show that the corresponding reduced twisted group $C^{\ast }$-algebras have a unique tracial state if and only if Kleppner’s condition holds.

Abstract:
A group G is called an FC-group if the conjugacy class of every element is finite. G is called a minimal non-FC-group if G is not an FC-group, but every proper subgroup of G is an FC-group. The first part of this thesis is on minimal non-FC-groups and their finitary permutational representations. Belyaev proved in 1998 that, every perfect locally finite minimal non-FC-group has non-trivial finitary permutational representation. In Chapter 3, we write the proof of Belyaev in detail. Recall that a group G is called quasi-simple if G is perfect and G/Z(G) is simple. The second part of this thesis is on finite quasi-simple groups and their coprime automorphisms. In Chapter 4, the result of Parker and Quick is written in detail: Namely
if Q is a quasi-simple group and A is a non-trivial group of coprime automorphisms of Q satisfying |Q: C_{Q}(A)| <
n then |Q| <
n3, that is |Q| is bounded by a function of n.

In this essay i will retell my experience and my view on what can be crucial for a soccer team to clear all obstacles in front of a team. The paper focus on how different individuals kan create a unity and kinship when they share a context when they are viewed as outsiders in the society. The unity in the exclusion connects to theories about ethnic groups and group structures.

Abstract:
For a finite group G we study certain rings called k-S-rings, one for each non-negative integer k, where the 1-S-ring is the centralizer ring of G. These rings have the property that the (k+1)-S-ring determines the k-S-ring. We show that the 4-S-ring determines G when G is any group with finite classes. We show that the 3-S-ring determines G for any finite group G, thus giving an answer to a question of Brauer. We show the 2-characters defined by Frobenius and the extended 2-characters of Ken Johnson are characters of representations of the 2-S-ring of G. We find the character table for the 2-S-ring of the dihedral groups of order 2n, n odd, and classify groups with commutative 3-S-ring.

This thesis studies the following question: given a finitely generated group G which are the elements whose length is uniformly bounded for any word-length in G ?. This work introduces and studies the subgroup Gbound consisting of elements of uniformly bounded word-length with respect to any generating set of G. We show that this subgroup is characteristic, that it is finite when the group G is virtually abelian, that it is trivial when the group is non-elementary hyperbolic. We show that for every finite group A, there exists an infinite group G such that Gbound = A. It is shown that for nilpotent groups of class 2, Gbound is the largest finite subgroup of the lower central series. We also study a generalization of Gbound by making it depend on the cardinals of the generating sets considered

Lock, Daniel John. "New team identification: Sydney FC, a case study." 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/2100/848.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the team identification of fans of a new sport team, using social identity theory. As there is limited research on fans of new sport teams, this study sought to redress this situation by seeking to explain and measure new team identification. Through investigating new team identification, this study extends current applications of social identity theory and understanding of fans of a new sport team. Additionally, by measuring new team identification, this thesis contributes a valid and reliable measure of the construct, and discovery of key themes driving the formation and development of new team identification. A mixed-method research design was used to investigate the central thesis topic. A case study of members of a new sport team, Sydney FC, provided the sample population. The research design included two surveys, administered at the end of the new team’s first and second seasons, respectively, in addition to twenty-one interviews undertaken to deepen understanding of new team identification. The Sports Spectator Identity Scale (SSIS) was used to measure new team identification and test for differences in identity strength based on participant characteristics. Results indicated that three defining behaviours provided the basis for the formation of new team identification. These were termed: Football first, Origin and Occasion. Measurement of new team identification using the SSIS validated the model in a new team context; however, the value of victory and the identification of rival groupings did not relate strongly to the construct. Member identity strength was significantly influenced by age, salary, membership category and games attended. Five behaviours underpinned the development of new team identification; these were termed: Searching, Expression, Eagerness, Names and Faces, and Spruiking. Social identity theory provided a useful framework to explore the formation and extent of new team identification. The formation of new team identification was strongly influenced by support of football, in this case. The implementation of the SSIS to measure new team identification extended its previous applications. Participant characteristics exerted a clear influence on the strength of new team identification. Members engaged in additional teamrelated behaviours as their new team identification increased and they developed multi-faceted and socially important bonds. Stemming from the key thesis findings, the conceptual outcomes provided a significant contribution to current literature exploring members of new sport teams. Furthermore, the nuanced differences between identification with new and established teams provide a distinct agenda for future research into new sport teams.

Abstract:
This chapter analyses urban economic transformation through fieldwork among a group of football fans, who in 2005 formed a breakaway club ‘FC United of Manchester’ in response to a transnational debt-leveraged buy-out of Manchester United Football Club. Notions of locality and community had become increasingly politicised amongst these fans in recent decades. With Manchester United’s ability to trade in many different markets and with a fan-base across the country and internationally, it was perceived that Manchester United no longer necessarily needed a relationship with its local fan-base. In response, these fans increasingly articulated a moral claim about Manchester United’s responsibility to its local ‘community’ which the analysis relates to anthropological theories of gifts and commodities. This analysis contextualises the subsequent formation of FC United and its enduring reciprocal obligations to its ‘community’.

Abstract:
New pedagogical methodologies in the health sciences area could be necessary for trainees. Flipped Classroom or inverted classroom (FC) is a tool that offers greater autonomy for the student, as well as better knowledge assimilation. The main objective of this study was the achievement of basic skills for the application of knowledge, communication, and interpretation of relevant data to make judgments for health sciences students. The number of students participating in the study was 1103 (n=1103), all of them from different degrees such as dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing. Students were distributed in 2 study groups: Group A, application of masterclass methodologies (M), and Group B, Flipped Classroom (FC) or inverted classroom method. At the end of the practical sessions, a test was used to evaluate the students' knowledge acquisition and their degree of satisfaction with the teaching methodology. The obtained results showed a significant increase in the maximum number of correctly-answered questions and a greater degree of satisfaction from those students who attended the practical lessons taught using the FC method. As a conclusion, the application of the FC method in health sciences leads to better results in the acquisition of the course competencies than the masterclass methodologies.

Abstract:
Recognition of the growing homogeneity of the Irish teaching body (Keane & Heinz, 2016), and increasing awareness of the positive impact a more diverse teaching population have on disadvantaged and diverse students’ educational engagement, has precipitated an Irish policy response which has included funding a university foundation course (FC) which supports students who are underrepresented in teaching, to progress into initial teacher education (ITE).There is a dearth of empirical research on who is accessing these interventions, and how these students differ from those who ‘usually’ apply to and enter ITE directly. Consequently, in September 2018, twenty FC students and eighteen students from the direct entry group completed an on-line survey in order to compare the demographic make of both groups. The results of the descriptive analysis indicate that students utilising the ITE FC are more diverse in ethnicity, disability status and academic history, and have greater levels of disadvantage in terms of family history of education and family occupation than those entering ITE directly. These results highlight the value of utilising alternative entry routes to ITE, and their potential to support those disadvantaged and underrepresented to take the initial step into ITE.

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of this research was to make reference to the difference in heart rate values (HR) of soccer players in small-sided games (SSG) with different rule modifications. We assumed that the permitted number of ball touches in SSGs will significantly affect the internal load of participating soccer players’ organism. Methods: The experimental group consisted of older junior players (U19) from the FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda soccer club (n=6). The HR values were evaluated on the basis of collected data, which were obtained using sport testers and special software. In order to find out the statistical significance of the difference in HR the one-way ANOVAand the Bonferroni post hoc test was used. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Results: We found out that by the change of the SSG rules, the internal reaction of players´ organism to training load was at different level. In the SSG1, where players were permitted only one ball contact during the SSG, the highest achieved average HR value of the moni-tored players’ (160.08 9.27 beats.min-1) was recorded. This form of the SSGs was the most intense for the players’cardiovascular system. However, there were no significant differences in HR values among the different types of the SSGs. Conclusions: Our recommendation is to employ small forms of SSGs (3 vs. 3) with different rule modifications in the systematic training process, because by the means of it we can ad-equately prepare the players for the real competitive match demands.

Abstract:
In this study, the steady-state and transient critical heat fluxes (CHFs) in pool boiling were measured on 1.0 mm diameter horizontal cylinders of gold and platinum heaters under saturated conditions due to transient heat inputs, Q0exp(t/τ), in a pool of Fluorinert FC-72. Heaters were heated by electric current with the periods, τ, ranged from 10 ms to 20 s, and the pressures ranged from atmospheric up to around 1.2 MPa. The steady-state CHFs measured are dependent on pressure and almost agree with the values obtained by Kutateladze’s correlation based on hydrodynamic instability (HI) model. It was considered that the boiling inception and the direct transition during the steady-state period occur by the pre-pressure of ∼1.2 MPa. The trend of typical transient CHFs were clearly divided into the first, second, and third groups for long, short, and intermediate periods, respectively. The direct transition processes to film boiling without nucleate boiling for the short periods obtained from both heaters were confirmed due to the heterogeneous spontaneous nucleation (HSN) in flooded cavities on the cylinder surface. The empirical correlations to express each of corresponding CHFs measured on both heaters for the short periods are presented in this paper.

Abstract:
Customer behavior modeling is important for businesses in order to understand, attract and retain customers. It is critical that the models are able to track the dynamics of customer behavior over time. We propose FC-CSM, a Customer Segmentation Model based on a Fragmentation-Coagulation process, which can track the evolution of customer segmentation, including the splitting and merging of customer groups. We conduct a case study using transaction data from a major Australian supermarket chain, where we: 1) show that our model achieves high fitness of purchase rate, outperforming models using mixture of Poisson processes; 2) compare the impact of promotions on customers for different products; and 3) track how customer groups evolve over time and how individual customers shift across groups. Our model provides valuable information to stakeholders about the different types of customers, how they change purchase behavior, and which customers are more receptive to promotion campaigns.

Abstract:
This paper presents the results of the flow boiling patterns of FC-72 in a microtube. The internal diameter of the tube is 0.48 mm, with a heated length of 73 mm. The mass flow rate varies from 50 to 3000 kg/m2-s. The microtube is made of Pyrex in order to obtain the visualisation of the flow pattern along the heated channel. Different types of flow pattern have been observed: bubbly flow, deformed bubbly flow, bubbly/slug flow, slug flow, slug/annular flow, and annular flow. The flow pattern map is compared with those obtained for larger tubes (2.0, 4.0, and 6.0 mm). Flow patterns in the microtube, present less chaotic behaviour and regular vapour-liquid interfaces. Besides, as the tube diameter decreases, the intermittent flow regime shifts from the saturated boiling region towards the subcooled boiling region. The experiments, in the microtube, show the presence of flow instabilities in a large portion of the tests at low mass flow rates and low subcooling. Flow patterns in presence of flow instabilities are mainly characterized by bubbly/slug flow and slug/annular flow. Heat transfer rates have been studied in all flow pattern conditions. The two groups of results, with flow instabilities and without flow instabilities, show similar heat transfer behaviour. The experimental results of flow pattern are compared with the flow pattern maps of McQuillan and Whalley (1985), Mishima and Ishii (1984), and Ong and Thome (2010).
