We derive a technique for scaling the search directions of feasible direction methods when applied to optimization problems over Cartesian product sets. It is proved that when the scaling is included in a convergent feasible direction method, also the new method will be convergent. The scaling technique is applied to the Frank-Wolfe method, the partanized Frank-Wolfe method and a heuristic Frank-Wolfe method. The performance of  these algorithms with and without scaling is evaluated on the stochastic transportation problem. It is found that the scaling technique has the ability to improve the

Cable-actuated manipulators (or 'cable robots') constitute a relatively new classification of robots which use motors, located at fixed remote locations, to manipulate an end-effector by extending or retracting cables. However, a number of challenges exist which have limited the mainstream emergence of cable robots. This thesis addresses two of the most important of these issues-- workspace analysis and disturba

The control of nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) has gained a lot of attention in the field of robotics over the past few decades as WMRs provide an increased range of motion resulting in a larger workspace. This research focuses on the application of Model Predictive Control (MPC) for real-time trajectory tracking of a nonholonomic WMR. MPC is a control strategy in which the control law is designed based on optimizing a cost function. The input and output constraints that may arise in practical situations can be directly incorporated into the control system using MPC. Computation time
