We present an analysis of super star cluster populations using WFPC 2 on theHubble Space Telescopefor two starburst galaxies: NGC 7673 and Markarian 8. Both galaxies are luminious and have signatures of massive star formation, such as emission-line dominated optical spectra. Their optical appearances are highly disturbed, featuring prominent knots of intense star formation. Using HST F255W, F555W, and F814W images, we perform aperture photometry for a select sample of star clusters in different regions of each galaxy, and compare the results with evolutionary population synthesis models.

Abstract:
We present a N=2 supergravity model that interpolates between all the single dilaton truncations of the gauged SO(8), N=8 supergravity. We provide new explicit non-extremal charged black hole solutions and their supersymmetric limits, exploiting the non-trivial transformation of the Fayet–Iliopoulos parameters under electromagnetic duality to connect the electric and the magnetic configurations. We also provide the asymptotic charges, thermodynamics and boundary conditions of these black hole configurations. We then construct a new supersymmetric truncation of the maximal supergravity, with this new sector featuring non-extremal and supersymmetric black holes.

Abstract:
During rescue excavations carried out in 2012 in site 8 at Zagórze, Comm. Mucharz, Dist. Wadowice, a hoard of bronze objects was discovered, comprising a binocular brooch of the Strzebielinko type, three spiral bracelets made of thick bronze sheet of triangular cross-section, and three twisted necklaces with flattened and rolled ends. The deposit should be dated to HaD and linked with the Górnośląsko-Małopolska (Upper Silesian-Lesser Polish) group of the Lusatian culture. The spiral bracelets and the decoration featuring on the ends of one of the necklaces find the closest analogies in the hoard from Krásna Hôrka, Dist. Tvrdošín, in Slovakia. All metal objects originating from site 8 at Zagórze were subjected to chemical and technological analysis (XRF spectrometer of the Spectro-MIDEX type).

Full text
Abstract:
Inverted nonlinear photonic crystals are the crystals featuring competition between linear and nonlinear lattices, with minima of the linear potential coinciding with maxima of the nonlinear pseudopotential, and vice versa. Traditional inverted nonlinear photonic crystals only have two channels, and can be attained experimentally by means of Rhodamine B (RhB, a dye featuring saturable absorption) doped into the SU-8 polymer. In this paper, a new type of inverted nonlinear photonic crystal is constructed by juxtaposing three kinds of channels into a period. These three channels are a purely linear channel, a saturable self-focusing nonlinear channel, and a saturable self-defocusing nonlinear channel. This optical device is assumed to be fabricated by means of SU-8 polymer material periodically doped with two types of active dyes. The nonlinear propagation of a light field inside this device (passing along the channel) can be described by a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Stable multi-peak fundamental and dipole solitons are found in the first gap of the system. These solitons sufficiently exhibit some interesting digital properties, which may have potential in optical communications.

Full text
Abstract:
According to an aspectological model proposed by Kabakčiev in 1984, later developed and sophisticated, languages differ according to whether they mark aspect (perfectivity and imperfectivity) on verbs, as in the Slavic languages – among others, or through nouns/NPs featuring (non-)boundedness which is transferred onto verbs, as in the Germanic languages – among others. In this model of compositional aspect (CA), Bulgarian is a borderline case with a perfective-imperfective and an aorist-imperfect distinction and a definite article only (no indefinite), and the model is used to analyze Greek, a language exhibiting identical features. NP referents play a major role for the compositional explication of aspect. The study finds that Greek is of the same borderline/hybrid type of language as Bulgarian, featuring verbal aspect (VA) predominantly, but also peripherally CA. The aorist/imperfect distinction exists both in Greek and Bulgarian to offset the structural impact of the definite article. Analyzed are some conditions for the explication of CA in Greek and they are found similar to those in Bulgarian. However, there are specificites and differences between the two languages that must be further studied and identified. Keywords: verbal aspect, compositional aspect, definite article, article-aspect interplay, aorist-imperfect contrast
