Using a hydrothermal process in FeCl2 solution, γ-Fe2O3/Ni2O3/FeCl3(FeCl2) composite nanoparticles were obtained from the FeOOH/Ni(OH)2 precursor prepared by coprecipitation. The precursor and the as-prepared nanoparticles were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The experimental results showed that the paramagnetic amorphous precursor, in which Ni(OH)2 is formed outside FeOOH, is transformed to ferrimagnetic γ-Fe2O3/Ni2O3 compo

Abstract In this paper, two iron salts, ferrous chloride (FeCl2) and ferric chloride (FeCl3), are directly added into an aeration tank for phosphorus removal, and their effects on the biochemical system are studied; the water quality parameters such as pH and alkalinity are also investigated. The extent of influence of the added iron salts on the pH and alkalinity of aerated solutions is demonstrated to be FeCl3 > FeCl2. When the dosage of iron ions is 20 mg/L, the decrease in pH and alkalinity caused by FeCl3 is 0.5 and 65 mg/L, which is higher than FeCl2 by 2% and 26%. The initial phospho

Whilst adsorption process is the preferred method of purifying wastewater due to its benefits, problems with the recovery of spent adsorbents are still prevalent in wastewater treatment technology. The use of magnetized biomass-based adsorbents (biosorbents) to ease the regeneration process would be a novel approach to overcome this obstacle. The magnetization of orange peel adsorbent involves a series of preparation stages. In this context, there are several parameters that may affect the magnetization of orange peel (OP) such as the ratio between FeCl3•6H2O and FeCl2•4H2O, mass of untreated

Akaganeite (β-FeOOH) nanorods were synthesized through hydrolysis of FeCl3 and FeCl2 solutions containing urea in the temperature range from 90 to 95 °C under reflux condition for 8 h. The average diameters and lengths of nanorods were impacted by FeCl2 and urea. Upon heating the solution containing FeCl3, FeCl2 and urea, the average diameters were about 80 nm and lengths of nanorods were about 1.2 μm. The morphologies of β-FeOOH nanorods in different growth times were shown by TEM images. More interestingly, in the growth process of nanorods, they can self-assemble and form cross structure. T

As(V) removal through electrocoagulation went down as initial pH (pHi) of the solution increased. Addition of FeCl2 increased removal of As(V) at all pHi but was not able to achieve full removal at pHi 7. Laboratory studies were conducted on nickel alloys to evaluate the effect of FeCl3 concentration and test procedure on CCT results. A modified test procedure was developed which yields more reproducible results with less data scatter than incurred with existing techniques. The severity of the environment increased with increasing FeCl3 content from 6 to 10%. CCT results correlated to alloy Cr, Mo, Cb and W content.

The austenitic stainless steels also required a minimum of 0.2%N. Significant reductions in either the chromium or molybdenum content resulted in substantial amounts o

Abstract Various methods for corrosion testing of stainless steel weldments and base materials for application in oxygen free CO2-containing brines have been evaluated. Results from long duration and short duration polarization tests for determination of the critical potential for initiation of corrosion, Ec, carried out in 0.1-3.0 % NaCl and simulated formation water in the temperature region between 10°C and 150°C are compared with results from tests in 6 % FeCl3 solution for determination of critical pitting temperature CPT. Abstract Localized corrosion behavior of candidate inner- and outer-container materials of current nuclear waste package design was evaluated in aqueous solutions of various concentrations of ferric chloride (FeCl3) at 30°C, 60°C and 90°C using the electrochemical cyclic potentiodynamic polarization (CPP) technique. Materials tested include A 516 carbon steel (UNS K01800), and high-performance UNS N08825, UNS N06985, UNS N06030, UNS N06455, UNS N06625, UNS N06022, and UNS R53400. Abstract The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of wrought duplex stainless steels have been characterized extensively in the literature. Cast versions of these alloys, however, have received much less attention. Consequently, relatively little data is available to assist in selection of cast duplex stainless steels. In order to help provide such information several commercially available cast duplex stainless steels were evaluated. The alloys were compared in terms of mechanical properties and localized corrosion resistance in FeCl3 solutions. The alloys tested gave widely varying

Abstract An electrochemical sensor which incorporates a counter electrode (CE) and a reference electrode (RE) into an o-ring has been developed for in situ monitoring of crevice corrosion initiation and propagation. It is applicable to crevice corrosion situations where the crevice is created by a gasket or an o-ring and the attack occurs in that crevice. It is shown that polarization resistance (Rp) values calculated from in situ electrochemical impedance measurements correlate with the onset of crevice attack and with its propagation for crevice corrosion of alloy 625 (UNS N06625) in 3.5% Na

Abstract A new potentiostatic electrochemical noise (P-ECN) technique has been developed for enhanced, real time corrosion monitoring for both general and localized corrosion. Two different systems, C1018/NaCl in CO2 and SS304/FeCl3 in air, were evaluated with P-ECN for its monitoring capabilities for general and localized corrosion, respectively. Quantitative analysis of the data was carried out using standard deviation and moving average (SDMA) calculation method for corrosion rate determination. The data revealed significant differences between general corrosion and localized (pitting and c

A new biocatalyst based on glucose oxidase immobilized on Fe3O4 magnetite nanoparticles modified with chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate was synthesized. Magnetite nanoparticles were obtained by mixing solutions of FeCl2 and FeCl3 with ammonia while heating to a temperature of 65 ?C. To stabilize the nanoparticles and ensure the presence of amino groups on their surface, chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate were sequentially deposited on magnetite. Immobilization of glucose oxidase on the support was carried out after preliminary activation of the carboxyl groups of the enzyme by 1-ethyl-3-(
