Abstract:
Paintedhand Mudbug (Lacunicambarus polychromatus (Thoma, Jezerinac & Simon 2005)) (Decapoda: Cambaridae) was recently discovered at three locations in Windsor, Ontario. These represent the first reports of this burrowing crayfish in Canada. iNaturalist, a nature app and website designed to record photo-based observations of plants and animals, was instrumental in facilitating this discovery. We discuss the importance of collaborative platforms, such as iNaturalist, for linking naturalists and citizen scientists to taxonomic experts around the globe.

Eumenine wasps are not known to be migratory and have never been proposed as migrants, let alone documented as such. We document a large-scale migration of a common eumenine, Ancistrocerus adiabatus, during which 44 000–68 000 wasps moved through a known migration corridor in southwestern Ontario, Canada, in less than an hour. Evidence for migration of another eumenine, Pachodynerus erynnis, six species of flower flies (Diptera, Syrphidae), and two dragonflies (Odonata) is also provided. We hope that this note encourages naturalists to focus their attention on insects at known migration concen

Abstract Crayfishes in the Genera Procambarus, Pacifastacus, Faxonius, Cherax, and Cambarellus were evaluated for their potential impacts and overall invasion risk in Ontario. Of the ten species evaluated, six have been found to have potential high impact. Crayfishes in the genus Procambarus pose the greatest risk as they have the greatest potential for negative impacts on native species and habitats. Three of the species have already recently been detected in Ontario. A single population of P. virginalis in the city of Burlington is the first of this species in Canada and North America. Proca

In 2012, unions representing teachers and education workers in Ontario, Canada, were faced with Bill 115, legislation used by the provincial government to impose a collective agreement upon education workers and remove their right to strike. With a specific focus on the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, this paper is an insider view of how Bill 115 and the external political contexts of the time affected Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation’s internal democratic practices at the height of the struggle. Lois Burdett and Helen Edmonds teach grades 2 and 3 in Stratford, Ontario. The curriculum requires that students in those grades be introduced to their community. Burdett and Edmonds realized that in Stratford where a festival of Shakespearean plays is mounted annually, where streets are named after characters in those plays, where the schools where they teach are called “Hamlet” and “Avon,” an introduction to the community is necessarily an introduction to Shakespeare. Accordingly, the teachers asked their students to research the life and times of Shakespeare. So surprised were they at the c

Abstract:
A Christian reformational perspective is introduced and adopted. A critique of modernist, industrialising agriculture is constructed, drawing partly on the work of contemporary agrarian writers. The notion of a regenerative agriculture is advocated. The two ways in which stewardship has been used as an environmental ethic is reviewed: as resource development and conservation, and earthkeeping. The earthkeeping definition is used to formulate the normative concept of agricultural stewardship. The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) was established by Dutch neo-Calvinist immigran

Canada is a federation composed of ten provinces, including Ontario, and three territories. The common law applies in Canada, with the exception of the province of Quebec, which uses a civil law system. There is a federal government; as a province, Ontario also exercises constitutional powers in its own right. Federal legislation includes provisions relating to adults within the scope of this work. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms also guarantees certain political rights to Canadians and civil rights to everyone in Canada, and contains rights that impact upon capacity law.
