Abstract:
Packet-switched communication networks such as today's Internet are built with several interconnected core and distribution packet forwarding routers and several sender and sink transport agents. In order to maintain stability and avoid congestion collapse in the network, the sources control their rate behavior and voluntarily adjust their sending rates to accommodate other sources in the network. In this thesis, we study one class of sender rate control that is modeled using continuous first-order differential equation of the sending rates. In order to adjust the rates appropriately, the netw

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to investigate relay feedback process identification and some controller design methods. Using an exact analysis method, namely the state space method, a set of conditions for the prediction of oscillations in relay control systems has been developed. Since the exact solution for the limit cycle is found it becomes possible to assess the stability of these oscillations using an eigenvalue criterion. A correction factor has been introduced to overcome the limitations of the Balasubramanian's eigenvalue criterion. Relay feedback identification in process control can lea

Abstract:
In this thesis, autopilots are developed for missiles with moderate dynamics and stationary targets. The aim is to use the designs in real applications. Since the real missile model is nonlinear, a linearization process is required to get use of systematic linear controller design techniques. In the scope of this thesis, the linear quadratic full state feedback approach is applied for developing missile autopilots. However, the limitations of measurement systems on the missiles restrict the availability of all the states required for feedback. Because of this fact, the linear quadratic design

Abstract:
This thesis presents decentralized model reference adaptive control techniques for systems with full-state feedback and systems with output feedback. The controllers are strictly decentralized, that is, each local controller uses feedback from only local subsystems and no information is shared between local controllers. The full-state feedback decentralized controller is effective for multi-input systems, where the dynamics matrix and control-input matrix are unknown. The decentralized controller achieves asymptotic stabilization and command following in the presence of sinusoidal disturbances

Scanning-electron-beam lithography (SEBL) is the primary technology to generate arbitrary features at the nano-scale. Abstract:
The effect of the implementation of constant output feedback on a general rational transfer function matrix has long been of interest. More recently, interest has been shown in the properness of closed-loop systems when such constant output feedback is applied to a general open-loop G(s) which is given either in terms of a state space realisation or as a matrix fraction description. In the first part of this work the effect of constant output feedback on a general composite system is considered and a simple sufficient condition for properness of such a system is derived.

The motion control of mechanical systems with flexible links is investigated. Issues addressed are the modelling and simulation of such systems, the design of a feedback control scheme and its implementation on an actual system. The modelling method used is a combination of a spline-based spatial discretization technique, which allows a definition of the state-variable vector as the set of curvature values at the supporting points of the spline and their time-rates of change, and the natural orthogonal complement of the kinematic constraints that eliminates the constraint forces and moments fr

There are emerging requirements for high accuracy multi-DOF actuators in numerous applications. As one of the novel motors capable of multi-DOF manipulation, permanent magnet spherical motors (PMSMs) that can provide continuous and dexterous motion in one joint have been widely studied for their advantages in structure and energy efficiency. The demands to bring forward the performance of PMSMs for precision applications have motivated this thesis to develop a closed-loop orientation control system with high accuracy and bandwidth. Bibliography: leaves 104-112.<br>This thesis describes the application of robust controller design techniques namely H[infinity] optimal control, fuzzy logic control and quantitative feedback theory to the load frequency control problem of power systems. It thus forms a comparative study of these design methods. Load frequency control is the closed loop control of electrical generating units to regulate the system frequency at its nominal value in the presence of load disturbances. Load frequency control also includes the regulation of the tie-line interchange powers.
