Abstract:

Abstract:
Vehicular User Equipment (UE) performance during mobility faces two issues relating to signaling and transmission, namely Handover (HO) and link adaptation. This paper shows that both processes are experiencing degradation during mobility and that vehicular UEs suffer from call drops and loss of connections. Therefore, this work presents an effective technique using Mobile-Femtos to improve vehicular UEs' HO process and link quality. Results show that vehicular UEs attached to a Mobile-Femto achieved better signalling and Link Ergodic capacity and as a consequence the outage probability was reduced. The achieved results indicated that deploying Mobile-Femtos under 25dB Vehicular Penetration Loss (VPL) has improved the vehicular UE Link Ergodic capacity by 1% and reduced the signal outage probability by 1.8% compared to the eNB direct transmission. Consequently, Drop Calls Probability (DCP) and Block Calls Probability (BCP) have been reduced by 7% and 14% respectively compared to the direct transmission from the eNB.

Abstract:
FEMDEM modelling which combines the multi-body particle interaction and motion modelling (i.e. Discrete Element Model, DEM) with the ability to model internal deformation of arbitrary shape (Finite Element Model, FEM) has been applied to breakwater models. There are two versions of a FEMDEM solver developed; Y3D_D is for deformable materials and is required for dynamic and static stress analysis and Y3D-R is the rigid version often used to numerically construct the armour unit packs. This paper also reports the placement protocols: POSITIT. FEMDEM modelling deals with solids interactions and is one modelling component that is to be coupled to other modelling technologies e.g. CFD, interface tracking, wave models, porous media etc. so that the key fluid-solid interactions can be modelled in a full scale virtual breakwater alongside work on scaled hydraulic laboratory models and prototype structures. The latest developments of two-way coupled interactions of waves with coastal structures are also described in this paper.

Abstract:
Abstract Chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling (CLOU) is the tendency of releasing gaseous oxygen of an oxygen carrier upon heating, which is the key property for the efficient and cleaner combustion of solid fuels for their wide exploitation for thermal power applications. The solvent-free, improved synthesis method was developed for the synthesis of pure bixbyite, FeMnO3 (Ia3̅, a=b=c=0.94 nm) as a low-cost, oxygen carrier by exposing of the abundantly available precursors (Fe3O4 and MnO) under inert- or reduction- atmosphere followed by air at 900°C. The bixbyite FeMnO3 showed the enhanced, stable multi-cycle CLOU performance than that of the physical mixture and it is converted into FeMn2O4 after the complete exhaustion of reactive oxygen under CLOU conditions. FeMnO3 showed the uniform elemental distribution of Fe, Mn and O, which facilitate the regeneration in air upon heating for multi-cycle performance. 3.2 wt.% of reactive oxygen can be obtained compared to the mass of FeMnO3 which is almost equal to the theoretical value under CLOU conditions. The lattice of FeMnO3 is altered linearly above 100°C with the increase of temperature, however; without the decomposition of the bixbyite phase and it was reinstated virtually upon cooling in air.

FeMnO3 powders were synthesized through a modified polyacrylamide gel route. The gel and the heat treated final powders have been characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DSC) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Phase transformation sequence of dry gel during heating is (Mn+3,Fe+3)2O3→(α-Mn2O3)·(α-Fe2O3)→FeMnO3. The thermal expansion properties of as-prepared sample were determined. From 100 to 700 °C, the average coefficient of expansion is 9.0139×10-6 /K. The experimental results demonstrates that the FeMnO3 sample exhibit a ferromagnetic transitions with TN ≈ 40 K.

Abstract:
A flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) with high electrochemical performance was constructed using reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-wrapped redox-active metal oxide-based negative and positive electrodes. Thin layered rGO functionality on the positive and the negative electrode surfaces has promoted the feasible surface-active sites and enhances the electrochemical response with a wide operating voltage window. Herein we report the controlled growth of rGO-wrapped tubular FeMoO4 nanofibers (NFs) via electrospinning followed by surface functionalization as a negative electrode. The tubular structure offers the ultrathin-layer decoration of rGO inside and outside of the tubular walls with uniform wrapping. The rGO-wrapped tubular FeMoO4 NF electrode exhibited a high specific capacitance of 135.2 F g−1 in Na2SO4 neutral electrolyte with an excellent rate capability and cycling stability (96.45% in 5000 cycles) at high current density. Meanwhile, the hydrothermally synthesized binder-free rGO/MnO2 nanorods on carbon cloth (rGO-MnO2@CC) were selected as cathode materials due to their high capacitance and high conductivity. Moreover, the ASC device was fabricated using rGO-wrapped FeMoO4 on carbon cloth (rGO-FeMoO4@CC) as the negative electrode and rGO-MnO2@CC as the positive electrode (rGO-FeMoO4@CC/rGO-MnO2@CC). The rationally designed ASC device delivered an excellent energy density of 38.8 W h kg−1 with a wide operating voltage window of 0.0–1.8 V. The hybrid ASC showed excellent cycling stability of 93.37% capacitance retention for 5000 cycles. Thus, the developed rGO-wrapped FeMoO4 nanotubes and MnO2 nanorods are promising hybrid electrode materials for the development of wide-potential ASCs with high energy and power density.

Purpose:to make a comparison of the corneal flap parameters after the FemtoLASIK procedure using femtolaser systems Femto Visum (Russia) and Femto LDV Z6 (Switzerland).Patients and methods. The study was carried out in 192 eyes from 192 patients with mild and moderate myopia who had undergone FemtoLASIK prodecure. Group 1 (Femto Visum) included 98 eyes (n = 98) on which flap were formed using femtolaser Femto Visum (“Optosystems”, Russia), group 2 (Femto LDV Z6) included 94 eyes (n = 94) and Femto LDV Z6 was used (“Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG”, Switzerland). The Femto Visum and Femto LDV Z6 groups were comparable in terms of pre-operative data (age, sex, corneal curvature, central corneal thickness, sphere, cylinder, spherical equivalent) (p > 0.05). The intended flap thickness was 100 μm and diameter was 9.0 mm in both groups. One month after surgery the achieved flap thickness in the horizontal and vertical meridians (14 measurement points) and the flap diameter in the horizontal meridian were measured using Visante OCT (Carl Zeiss, Germany), also we determined the shape of the flap and the mean deviation of the values from morphometric parameters of the corneal flap relative to the intended values.Results.In group 1 (Femto Visum), the total average thickness of the flap was 98.89 ± 3.96 μm with the mean deviation 2.91 ± 2.91 μm, the mean flap diameter was 8.96 ± 0.13 mm with the mean deviation 0.11 ± 0.07 mm, in group 2 (Femto LDV Z6) the same parameters were 99.11 ± 3.89 μm, 2.99 ± 2.64 μm and 8.91 ± 0.14 mm, 0.13 ± 0.10 mm, respectively. The configuration of the corneal flap was uniform in both groups. For all studied parameters it was no any statistically significant differences between studied groups (p > 0.05, Student’s t-test).Conclusions.The Femto Visum and Femto LDV Z6 femtolaser systems allow to shape the uniform and highly predictable corneal flap morphometric parameters, similar measurements were obtained from both systems.

Abstract:
Holey Fe-Anderson-type polyoxometalate/polyaniline/graphene (PPG) hybrid materials were first prepared by anchoring Anderson-type polyoxometalates [FeMo6O[Formula: see text]H6][Formula: see text] (FeMo[Formula: see text] onto graphene modified with polyaniline via a facile hydrothermal treatment. The as-prepared materials exhibited an excellent electrochemical performance with a high specific capacitance of 1366 F g[Formula: see text] at 1 A g[Formula: see text] and outstanding cycling stability (97.6% capacitance retention after 5000 cycle times). The uptake of polyaniline/FeMo6 nanoparticles on graphene not only provided the pseudocapacitance but also weakened the aggregation between the graphene layers, resulting in a higher surface area compared with pure graphene. In addition, the AC//PPG-15 asymmetric supercapacitor device showed a high energy density of 24.65[Formula: see text]W h kg[Formula: see text] at a low power density of 326.25[Formula: see text]W kg[Formula: see text] and good cycling stability (94.82% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles). Hence, the as-prepared PPG hybrid materials in this work possess tremendous potential as electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:
Purpose. To evaluate the specifications and technique properties of the new Femto LDV Z8 in creating intrastromal refractive lenticules during small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Methods. Six enucleated porcine eyeballs were equally divided into two groups (Femto LDV Z8 or VisuMax) and were randomly assigned to three experienced refractive surgeons who performed SMILE on each group. Five intraoperative time parameters and surgeons’ satisfaction on the surgical procedure were compared between two groups. Postoperatively, the roughness of the lenticule surfaces and the irregularity of edges were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and were also compared between the two groups. Results. Longer time on suction peak pressure, total laser application, and total surgery were spent in the Femto LDV Z8 group as compared with the VisuMax group. The Femto LDV Z8 group applied OCT scanning and offsetting before performing the laser procedure, which expended more time for these crucial steps. The widest range of surgeons’ satisfaction scores was found in the step of lenticule interface identification of the Femto LDV Z8 group. The roughness scores of the anterior and posterior lenticule surfaces were statistically less in the Femto LDV Z8 group than in the VisuMax group (anterior, ×180, p=0.039; anterior, ×250, p=0.337; posterior, ×180, p=0.006; and posterior, ×250, p=0.007). Conclusions. Femto LDV Z8 showed promising performances as a novel SMILE equipment for the correction of myopia. It has special and unique features for SMILE procedures, which need more learning and researching processes. With its low-energy high-frequency nJ-level laser system, the Femto LDV Z8 provided smoother lenticule surface than VisuMax.

Abstract:
The reliable and efficient self-adaptive analysis is a modern goal of various numerical computations. Most adaptivity methods, however, adopt energy norm to measure errors, which may not be the most natural and convenient means, e.g., for problems with locally singular gradient of displacement. Based on the Element Energy Projection (EEP) super-convergent technique in the Finite Element Method of Lines (FEMOL) which is a general and powerful semi-discrete method, reliable error estimates of displacements in maximum norm can be obtained anywhere on the FEMOL mesh and hence adaptive FEMOL by maximum norm becomes feasible. However, to tackle singularity problems effectively and efficiently, an automatic and flexible local mesh refinement strategy is required to generate meshes of high quality for more efficient adaptive FEMOL analysis. Taking the two-dimensional Poisson equation as the model problem, the paper firstly introduces the FEMOL and EEP methods with interface sides resulting from local mesh refinement. Then a local mesh refinement strategy and corresponding adaptive algorithm are presented. The numerical results given show that the proposed adaptive FEMOL with local mesh refinement can produce displacement solutions satisfying the specified tolerances in maximum norm and the adaptively-generated meshes reasonably reflect the local difficulties inherent in the physical problems without much redundant accuracy.

Abstract:
Iron containing nanoporous MCM-41 (FeMCM-41) with different Si/Fe ratios of 50, 100 and 150 was synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis process. The materials obtained from hydrothermal synthesis were characterized by various physico chemical techniques such as XRD, N2 adsorption, DR UV-vis, EPR and FTIR spectroscopy. XRD analyses of FeMCM-41 materials confirmed the presence of well-ordered crystalline structure. N2 isotherm of FeMCM-41 materials showed type IV adsorption isotherm. EPR and DR UV-vis analysis of FeMCM-41 samples indicates the presence of high tetrahedral coordination at the Si/Fe ratios of 100 and 150. The catalytic performance of FeMCM-41 nano tubular reactor was tested in the liquid phase oxidation of vanillyl alcohol into vanillin using H2O2 (50[Formula: see text]wt% in water). The reaction products were analyzed by gas chromatography in DB-5 capillary column with flame ionization detector. The products were confirmed by 1H NMR, [Formula: see text]C NMR and LC-Mass spectroscopy. The maximum conversion of vanillyl alcohol (85%) and selectivity towards vanillin (82%) were observed using the catalyst FeMCM-41(100) in 30[Formula: see text]min at 60[Formula: see text]C. The influence of reaction temperature, reaction time, reactants molar ratio, Si/Fe ratio and amount of catalyst were investigated.

The inclined incidence of the femto laser on the phase mask in fiber Bragg grating (FBG) carving has a significant effect on the quality of FBG fabrication. Based on that the infrared femto laser has highly spatial coherence and the order walk-off will happen behind the phase mask, the interferogram generated at the fiber core by the inclined femto laser beam has been analyzed using the multi-beam interference principle. The influence of beam inclination on the coherence of the 0th and [Formula: see text] orders diffraction with different exposure distance, the visibility of interferogram and the frequency component of the transverse interferogram intensity has also been analyzed. It is meaningful for the FBG fabricating with the femto laser.

ObjectiveDescemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) remains a challenging technique. We compare the precision of femtosecond laser-assisted DMEK to manual DMEK.Methods and AnalysisA manual descemetorhexis (DR) of 8 mm diameter was compared with a femtosecond laser-assisted DR of the same diameter (femto-DR) in 22 pseudophakic patients requiring DMEK. We used OCT images with a centred xy-diagram to measure the postoperative precision of the DR and the amount of endothelial denuded area. Endothelial cell loss (ECL) and best corrected visual acuity were measured 3 months after surgery.ResultsIn the manual group, the median error of the DR was 7% (range 3%–16%) in the x-diameter and 8% (range 2%–17%) in the y-diameter. In the femto group, the median error in the respective x and y-diameters was 1% (range 0.4%–3%) and 1% (range 0.006%–2.5%), smaller than in the manual group (p=0.001). Endothelial denuded areas were larger in the manual group (11.6 mm2, range 7.6–18 mm2) than in the femto group (2.5 mm2, range 1.2–5.9 mm2) (p<0.001). The ECL was 21% (range 5%–78%) in the manual DR and 17% (range 6%–38%) in the femto-DR group (p=0.351). The median visual acuity increased from 0.4 logMAR (range 0.6–0.4 logMAR) in both groups to 0.1 logMAR (range 0.4–0 logMAR) in the manual group and to 0.1 logMAR (range 0.3–0 logMAR) in the femto group (p=0.461). Three rebubblings were required in the manual group, whereas the femto group required only one.ConclusionThe higher precision of the femto-DR bears the potential to improve DMEK surgery.

Abstract:
The goal is to develop a combined technique for preliminary YAG laser fragmentation and Femto laser exposure on a CATALYS device and to evaluate its role in reducing the time and energy parameters of a surgery of high-density cataract. Material and methods. The study included 118 patients (118 eyes) with age-related cataracts of the 3rd and 4th degrees of lens nucleus density. In the main group, before phacoemulsification (PE) with a Femto laser support and IOL implantation, preliminary YAG laser phacofragmentation of the lens nucleus was performed. In the first control group, PE was performed with Femto laser support and IOL implantation. In the second control group PE with IOL implantation. Results. A 35% decrease in the energy of the Femto laser action at a 3rd degree of lens nucleus density was achieved, and 40% at the 4th degree, in comparison with the PE with the Femto laser support without preliminary YAG laser phacofragmentation, a 38% decrease in the cumulative ultrasound energy at 3rd degree of the lens nucleus density, and 42% at 4th degree compared with isolated ultrasonic cataract phacoemulsification. Conclusion. The proposed modification of the technique of combined YAG laser and Femto laser exposure allows achieving during cataract surgery a complete fragmentation of the lens nucleus of a high degree of density, helps minimizing the risk of complications and reaching quick postoperative rehabilitation of patients.

Abstract:
The continuous increase in mobile data traffic creates the need for radical innovations in the mobile broadband system design. Heterogeneous networks (HetNets) deployment paradigm is an emerging research trend considered as the most significant aspect for meeting the mobile data challenge, mainly by proposing spectral efficiency enhancements and cell capacity gains from an overall system perspective. Two are the main challenges that dense small cell networks are facing: a) various types of interference mainly caused by unplanned deployments, and b) limited and Quality of Service (QoS)-unreliable wired backhaul links. In this paper, the authors propose a model where femtocells' and relays' complementary characteristics are effectively exploited into femto-relays. More specifically, the authors describe four main functionalities of this model: a) interference protection, b) two-fold backhaul alternatives (i.e. wired and wireless backhaul), c) opportunistic femto-relay selection, and d) full-duplex in-band relaying. To evaluate the anticipated technical impact of the proposed model, targeted simulation results are presented for a campus topology where femto-relays are compared with classic femtocells. Finally, related open issues, such as signaling overheads management, context-aware resource management, and business logic aspects are presented, with emphasis on the femto-relay's real market penetration opportunities in the mid and long-term future.

Purpose. To investigate the visual quality after SMILE and Femto-LASIK.Methods.About 123 eyes from 63 patients were enrolled in this study. The parameters were measured preoperatively and 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively using Sirius System.Results.The MTF curve increase slightly from low to high frequency at 3 mm and 6 mm pupil diameter after SMILE surgery (P<0.05) during the follow-up time comparing with the preoperative values. And the SR has a significant increase at various pupil diameters as well (P<0.05). However, there was little increase for MTF at intermediate to high frequency at 3 mm pupil diameter after Femto-LASIK procedure (P<0.05). And the SR had only significant increase at 3 mm pupil diameter. Between SMILE and Femto-LASIK, there was no statistic difference both in MTF and SR (P>0.05) at 3 mm pupil diameter at vertical and horizontal meridian. However, significant difference was found in MTF at low to mediate frequency at 6 mm pupil diameter at vertical meridian at 1 week postoperatively (P<0.05).Conclusions.Both SMILE and Femto-LASIK show a great improvement in optical quality at small diameter. It was found that SMILE shows better optical quality than Femto-LASIK at larger pupil diameter, which might be good for the night vision.

Ordered double perovskite oxides (Sr2-3xLa2xBax)FeMoO6 (0≤x≤0.3) have been investigated in this work. X-ray powder diffraction reveals that the crystal structure of the compounds changes from a tetragonal I4/m lattice to a cubic Fm 3m lattice around x=0.2. Though the nominal average size of the A site cation of (Sr2-3xLa2xBax)FeMoO6 is designed to be almost independent of x, the refinements of the crystal structure show that the lattice constants increase with x in both the tetragonal and the cubic phase regions due to electron doping. As the x increases, the degree of cationic ordering on the B site is decreased pronouncedly, while the Curie temperature of the compounds is nearly unchanged.

New electron doped double perovskite compound (Sr2-xSmx) FeMoO6 (0≤x≤0.25) has been synthesized by solid-state reaction. Crystal structure and magnetic properties of the compounds have been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and magnetic measurements. XRD revealed that all the compounds were of single phase and belonged to a I 4/m lattice. The degree of cationic ordering on the B site was decreased pronouncedly by the electron doping. Different from the results of La- and Nd-doped Sr2FeMoO6, Curie temperature (TC) of (Sr2-xSmx) FeMoO6 decreased first with the doping and then increased beyond x = 0.15, indicating that steric effect was enhanced as the radius of rare-earth ions decreased.

Abstract:
A new method for the numerical creation of random single-layer systems of concrete armour units is illustrated. The armour layer pack is created by a FEMDEM solver that ensures mechanical equilibrium between all concrete units and rocks of the underlayer. The local and average packing density together with geometric constraints indicative of randomness and interlocking are assessed using analysis tools and shown to be in accordance with unit designer requirements. This solids modelling research is an essential pre-requisite to future simulation of the armour layer response to wave loading and more realistic modelling of wave run-up and overtopping on rubble-mound structures.

The mechanical properties of black thin film on glass substrates and metallic, obtained from the synthesis of organic-inorganic silica hybrids via sol-gel are described. Hybrid silica-based coatings with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), methyltrietoxysilane (MTES), polyurethane (PU) and commercial silica colloidal solution (Ludox HS30) as precursors, were used. The procedure is divided in the following three steps: 1) obtaining homogenous and stable solutions of different organic silica-polymer composition, 2) aggregation of the black pigment with the formulate FeMnOx, 3) Coating substrates by both dip-coating and aerograph airbrush, at room temperature. The films obtained were characterized by SEM, AFM and nano-indentation. Abstract:
Abstract The Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) often causes the onset of the Indonesian–Australian summer monsoon (IASM) over Indonesia and northern Australia. In the present study, a composite analysis is conducted to reveal the detailed IASM onset process and its air–sea interactions associated with the first-branch eastward-propagating MJO (FEMJO) based on 30-yr ERA-Interim data, satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST), outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), and SODA3 ocean reanalysis. The results distinctly illustrate the phase-locked relationships among the persistent sea surface warming north of Australia, the FEMJO, and the established westerlies. It is found that the SST to the north of Australia reaches its annual maximum just before the onset of the summer monsoon. The oceanic surface mixed layer heat budget discloses that this rapid warming is primarily produced by the enhanced surface heat flux. In addition, this premonsoon sea surface warming increases the air specific humidity in the low-level troposphere and then establishes zonal moisture asymmetry relative to the FEMJO convection. This creates a more unstable atmospheric stratification southeast of the FEMJO and favors convection throughout the vicinity of northern Australia, which ultimately triggers the onset of the IASM. The results in this study thus may potentially be applicable to seasonal monsoon climate monitoring and prediction.

Abstract:
Purpose. To evaluate and compare corneal backscatter from anterior stroma between small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (femto-LASIK).Methods. A cohort of 60 eyes of 30 patients was randomized to receive SMILE in one eye and femto-LASIK in the fellow eye. In vivo confocal microscopy was performed at 1 week and 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery. The main outcome measurements were maximum backscattered intensity and the depth from which it was measured, the backscattered light intensity 30 μm below Bowman’s membrane at the flap interface and 150 μm below the superficial epithelium, and the number of refractive particles at the flap interface.Results. The mean backscattered light intensity (LI) at all measured depths and the maximum backscattered LI were higher in the SMILE group than the femto-LASIK group at all postoperative visits. LI differences at 1 week and 1- and 3-month visits were statistically significant (P<0,05). LI differences at 6 months were not statistically significant. There was no difference in the number of refractive particles at the flap interface between the groups at any visit.Conclusions. SMILE results in increased backscattered LI in the anterior stroma when compared with femto-LASIK were evaluated.

Abstract:
The formation of an active dinitrogenase requires the synthesis and the insertion of the iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) into a presynthesized apodinitrogenase. InAzotobacter vinelandii, NafY (also known as γ protein) has been proposed to be a FeMo-co insertase because of its ability to bind FeMo-co and apodinitrogenase. Here we report the purification and biochemical characterization of NafY and reach the following conclusions. First, NafY is a 26-kDa monomeric protein that binds one molecule of FeMo-co with very high affinity (Kd≈ 60 nm); second, the NafY-FeMo-co complex exhibits aS= 3/2 EPR signal with features similar to the signals for extracted FeMo-co and the M center of dinitrogenase; third, site-directed mutagenesis ofnafYindicates that the His121residue of NafY is involved in cofactor binding; and fourth, NafY binding to apodinitrogenase or to FeMo-co does not require the presence of any additional protein. In addition, we have obtained evidence that suggests the ability of NafY to bind NifB-co, an FeS cluster of unknown structure that is a biosynthetic precursor to FeMo-co.
