Buenos Aires is globally appealing for its diverse culture, history, and opportunities. It lures people for employment, education, and healthcare, adding to urbanization tensions. The city administration advertises integrative urbanism to improve attractiveness but struggles with high crime rates, particularly compared to some European cities. This study focuses on safety through a feminist urbanism lens. We question the effectiveness of safety measures and who benefits from them. Key considerations include how various demographics, from the elderly to security forces, perceive safety and city

As planners and urbanists continue to debate urban reforms needed to achieve humanist ideals – including just forms of sustainability – several different schools of thought are vying for influence, including cultural urbanism (celebrating the everyday, temporal, occasional, and timeless), pluralist urbanism (aiming for a co-produced city that is more democratic, participatory, and open-ended), and inclusive urbanism (focusing on the right to the city and its accommodations for all populations). This book investigates the aesthetic and conceptual characteristics of fifteenth-century female portraiture on panel. Portraits of women increased substantially during this century. They formed part of a material and a visual culture borne out of the rapid rise of an oligarchy from entrepreneurial activities that was especially advanced in the urbanised territories of Italy and Flanders. For this reason, the portraits in this book are by Netherlandish and Italian painters. They are simultaneously illustrative of the emancipation of the genre from its medieval idiom, and of the responses to the

Abstract:
The multisectoral approach of Feminist Urbanism has managed to promote new forms of intervention in the design and management of the city, deploying numerous Good Practices in various territories. Under this premise, this work proposes a comparative analysis of three cases of urban projects for the popular habitat in Chile and Argentina: the Intercultural Neighborhood "Community of change", (2011 - 2016) in San Martín de los Andes; the “Alto Comedero” Neighborhood (2003 - 2014) in San Salvador de Jujuy, and the “Maestranza” Neighborhood (2020 - 2022) in Central Station, Santiago de Chile. When thinking about the place of women in the popular habitat management from feminism, questions arise: How these processes of social production were throughout history? How should a Feminist Urban Management be? What subjectivities matter? How are processes evaluated? This communication condenses the results obtained in the framework of an academic exercise with Urban Planning students, in which it was proposed to generate devices to measure and evaluate the role of women, as active political subjects, within an ongoing participatory process: the Integral Reurbanization Project (IRUP) of Vil

The urban experience of women in São Paulo reflects the complexities of urban space and gender dynamics in Brazil's largest city. Women face significant challenges, from precarious mobility to unequal access to public services and unsafe urban spaces. Socioeconomic disparities exacerbate these difficulties, highlighting the intersectionality of their identities. Fully understanding these experiences is essential for developing more inclusive and equitable public policies. This article emphasizes the need for comprehensive analysis that recognizes the diverse realities of women in the City of S

The right to the city is a concept used by several authors to explain the territorial inequalities of our cities and propose other forms of more just and democratic urban and territorial planning. On the other hand, for some time now, another layer of analysis of inequality has begun to gain relevance in Uruguay, which brings to the surface a problem that is often invisible:the gaze with a gender and feminist perspective. Currently, these inequalities, territorial and gender, continue to exist in our cities and in some cases have deepened. In this context, this research proposes to question th

From the understanding of cities as spaces constructed and modified by social arrangements and political norms, another perspective is suggested in its historiographical analysis, based on the central problem of the traditional distance of women from urbanistic decisions. In this context, the general objective of the research is to examine their invisibility in urban planning over time. Derived from methodological procedures of review of secondary sources, the results are structured in four main parts, according to historical ages: Ancient – between matriarchies and patri-systemas; Medium – be

On the eastern periphery of Montevideo, there are three neighborhoods with private neighborhood characteristics: San Nicolás, Los Olivos and Parques. In addition, three more neighborhoods are under construction. These neighbourhoods, although by order of the Municipality of Montevideo cannot have access fences, they make up self-segregated spaces that deny the link with the city, implanted as "islands" in the territory with 24-hour security and surveillance.
