Full textIf there are terms whose employment became so frequent and varied that one tests difficulty of finding the true definition, we can say that among these terms, poverty makes party of the most quoted. To understand female poverty in Kaolack, we needed to use not only the general indicators of poverty, but also representations made by people at different social level. Our reflexion related to the problems of the living conditions of the women, ther daily life on socio-spatial and economic plans. We analyzed women's poverty, the causes, and the consequences in particular : prostitution, children in difficult situation, juvenile delinquence. With the impotence of State to fight against this growing poverty, the assiociative movement became an alternative to the economic crisis. We analyzed the role of women associations, of NGO in the fight against poverty promoting sustainable development. It thus led our analysis to the conclusion that the poverty of women involves structural poverty of their children, and development passes by the improvement of the living conditions of the women and the children in the field of the access to education, health, and a balanced food

Full textThis study aims to show how women of authority in Central Asian Islam manage to implement the mechanisms of community restructuring along religious and social lines. Thus, the question is to account for the ways and means through which the traditional religious roles of women are redefined causing new religious functions to appear in various Central Asian Islamic societies now experiencing transition. The process involves women Muslim clerics whose range of action reaches for beyond the religious domain to extend to the public social sphere. Collective worshipping and religious meetings convey these women's commitment to creating and above all maintaining social relations within their community. Their concern with affirming the social identity of the group in the new situation of independence for the states of Central Asia is closely related to the destructuring of their societies with societisation. It seems essential for social anthropology to study the role of these charismatic figures as mediators within the group in order to shed a new light on various aspects of religious in everyday life rather than in official Islam

Nowadays, Indigenous women entrepreneurship (IWE) is considered as an emerging research theme. It attracts a growing interest from policy-makers and international organizations. Indeed, it was described as a strategy to improve the living conditions of indigenous women, who are unfortunately considered everywhere in the world as victims of discrimination and several forms of systemic violence. There is an interest in the socio-economic development of indigenous women, but there are also insufficient studies on the topic, which undermines the understanding of the IWE characteristics. IWE is still very little explored by the research community, especially in administration and entrepreneurship. As a result, this doctoral research project aims to fill this gap, both theoretically and empirically, by conducting a qualitative survey on the entrepreneurial experiences of indigenous women. Using a qualitative and exploratory approach, with the cooperation and the participation of the community, this qualitative survey on the entrepreneurial experiences of indigenous women was conducted during the summer of 2018 in an indigenous community within the Province of Québec: the community of Mashteuiatsh, which belongs to the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation. This qualitative survey is based on 22 women entrepreneurs Ilnuatsh and 5 actors of the economic development of the community. This doctoral research project is inspired by critical approaches to entrepreneurship and aims at broadening the analysis of IWE to the traditional aspects of entrepreneurship and to indigenous women’s lifestyles. Through its exploratory approach, this research project reports current knowledge of the entrepreneurial experiences of Ilnuatsh women, while promoting their experiences and vision of entrepreneurship, and explains how the community context impacts their entrepreneurial experiences. The results of this exploratory survey highlight 10 emergent themes related to the IWE analysis: 1) Motivations; 2) Values; 3) Self-representation of the IWE; 4) Obstacles; 5) Facilitating factors; 6) Local know-how; 7) Role of the indigenous woman; 8) Lifestyles and traditions; 9) Perception of entrepreneurship; 10) Entrepreneurial hybridity. In addition, the empirical body of work has allowed the analysis of the community context to be reconstructed in order to contextualize and better understand the entrepreneurial experiences of indigenous women entrepreneurs in their context of action. The results of this research help fill the existing scientific gap on IWE, and also challenge the epistemological foundations of the “classic” entrepreneurship as disclosed and known today within the academy. In practical terms, the results of this doctoral research provide practitioners with specific recommendations for the development of IWE as well as the improvement of existing initiatives. In social terms, through the process used and the disclosure of results, this research will contribute to a better integration of indigenous women in the economic activity of the Province of Québec, and both at a national and international level, and to a greater involvement of indigenous women in the socioeconomic development of their home indigenous communities. Full textThis qualitative research focuses on the effect of participating in a tontine, a type of rotating savings and credit association, on Senegalese women’s empowerment. The data provided in this document come from a study case that was carried out in the tontine AND DANNE at a moderate rental housing market in Nimzatt. Twelve women have been interviewed using semi-structured interviewing guides. The concepts of “empowerment” and “participation” were defined in a conceptual framework. The applicability of the empowerment approach as the chosen method of data analysis has allowed us to see the beneficial effects of participating in a tontine. The fact is that the participation of women to such financial association increased their self-esteem and significantly improved their relationship with other women from within the group as well as with their community. The critical awareness of the participants comes from the lack of access to credit experienced by the majority of Senegalese women. Both “de facto” and voluntary participation were observed within the tontine. Also, the tontine is at the real power of the scale of participation proposed by Arnstein (1969), as there noted the presence of levels of partnership and delegation. The data analysis highlights other avenues of research, including community-based behaviours observed in participants who provided moral support and dietary management to young Talib beggars. These initiatives could well serve as examples to follow for the Senegalese government for the implementation of social programs. Key words : Tontine - participation - empowerment – study case

Full textRural women in Mali are essential actors in agriculture, which is the most important field of the country’s economy. To promote inclusive development and women’s economic empowerment, the Malian government and local municipalities have set “self-promotion centers” to promote rural women empowerment. This study examines the self-promotion centers of the association "Musow jigitugu-ton" of Toubacoro and the union "Si yiriwa" of Dioïla. The main objective of the study is to investigate the impact of economic empowerment activities in women's empowerment. Using a qualitative approach, individual interviews and focus groups were carried out with 31 women, 1 manager and 10 managers of the partner organisations. The results indicate that activities of the centers improved women economic empowerment who are members, but efforts are still needed to manage the income generated by women in order to maintain their self-promotion. The results also show that economic empowerment is a vehicle for the empowerment of rural women. However, this process is still very much affected by the male dominance deeply integrated by women. Partners' approaches are failing in this regard and some measures must be taken to integrate gender approach in all actions if self-promotion centers are to fulfill their roles. Keywords: women economic empowerment, women empowerment, self-promotion center, rural women, male dominance.

Full textContext: cancer Plans 2 and 3 emphasize the importance of a shared decision-making. However, the literature on breast reconstruction (BR) following breast cancer shows the physician essential place in this decision-making. Close others are also little included by physicians in this treatment choice and more specifically intimate partners. The latter is usually the most present near the women. To date, no research has studied couple interactions in the decision-making process of a BR. Yet, several studies have pointed out the interdependence of both members of a couple to face a chronic illness and partners' key role in women's adjustment facing breast cancer. Objective: the main objective of this research is to study couple interactions in the decision-making process of a BR following breast cancer diagnosis. Method: two studies as well as a systematic literature review were realized to meet this objective. These two studies were mixed, including a quantitative part (self-reported questionnaires) and a qualitative part (interviews with women and their partners). The first study was retrospective, interviewing couples several years after breast cancer diagnosis. The second study was prospective, interviewing couples just after breast cancer diagnosis. Quantitative data were subjected to non-parametric analysis. Qualitative data were subjected to a thematic content analysis, a lexical analysis and an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: the results of the retrospective study show that women's emotional adjustment is the same regardless their decision (immediate BR, delayed BR or no BR). However, women without BR would less recommend their decision compared to women with BR. In addition, couples report that BR decision was lived and taken within the couple. Partners were described as supportive in the decision-making process. The question of temporality emerged differently in couple's discourse according to the decision. The results of the systematic literature review highlight the different roles family members can have in treatment decision-making of a chronic illness, including direct (e.g., the partner says his/her preferences to the patient) and indirect influence (e.g., patient's choice is guided by his/her perception of his/her family responsibilities). The results of the prospective study shows that before the mastectomy, partners of women not having an immediate BR express more negative emotions and a greater need for information compared to partners of women having an immediate BR. Furthermore, women and their partners think to the BR at the time of the mastectomy. These thoughts allow couples to project themselves in the future, where BR is associated to a good health. Thinking to BR could allow couples to cope with the mastectomy and breast cancer diagnosis. Conclusion: BR decision-making appears as experienced within the couple, with specificities considering the decision (immediate BR, delayed BR or no BR). At the clinical level, this work allows to identify couples needs and to propose interventions and tools to develop in order to accompany women and their partners. At the research level, it should be distinguished more broadly how BR decision is made between the women, her partner and the health professionals involved in the medical care
