AbstractElevated estradiol levels associated with ovulation-stimulating drugs used to treat infertility and ovarian punctures involved with in vitro fertilization (IVF) have led to concerns regarding long-term cancer effects. Assessed risks, however, have been contradictory. This may reflect small sample sizes and short follow-up times, as well as an inability of many studies to adjust for appropriate potential confounders, such as causes of infertility and parity. While early studies of ovulation-stimulating drugs suggested large increases in large ovarian cancer risk, more recent studies hav

Abstract:
This study measures the impact of household poverty on women fertility and the nutritional status of children. In this study, the poverty level is computed by the per capita income, while women fertility is measured by the number of children in a household. The Height- for-age Z-score (HAZ) method has been used to measure the nutritional status of children. A survey has been conducted to collect household data. The study uses the OLS method and finds that household poverty is positively correlated to women fertility rate but negatively related to the nutritional status of children. The study h

Abstract Using World-System and Gender and Development theories to examine women’s status and fertility in the high fertility countries, I argue that fertility behavior is strongly related to an unequal power relationship between husbands and wives, which occurs because of a dependent economy. Dependent economy creates economic inequality and limits prospects for women’s upward mobility, which may be an important factor for maintaining high fertility. This research examines empirical data from 82 countries—where total fertility rate is higher than 2.1 per woman in a given nation. The study inc

According to the 2011 Census of India, Bihar is the most densely populated state and has a higher fertility rate than the national average. Recent findings from the NFHS-5 indicate a gradual decline in fertility rates. However, the state’s fertility level remains at three, exceeding the government’s target of two. This study examines the impact of women’s education, employment status, social status and other demographic factors on fertility behavior using NFHS-5 data from a specific district in Bihar. The district was selected based on demographic density and literacy statistics. The multinomi

We seek to explain the differences in fertility rates across high-income countries by focusing on the interaction between the increasing status of women in the workforce and their status in the household, particularly with regards to child care and home production. We observe three distinct phases in women's status generated by the gradual increase in women's workforce opportunities. In the earliest phase, characteristic of the 1950s and 1960s in the United States, women earn low wages relative to men and are expected to shoulder all of the child care at home. As a result, most women specializ

Because motherhood is a valued status, the life course perspective and the theory of conjunctural action suggest the following hypotheses: for women in the United States, gaining the valued identity “mother” should lead to an increase in self-esteem, while identification with a fertility problem identity should lead to a decrease in self-esteem. Using the nationally representative two-wave National Survey of Fertility Barriers (NSFB), we conducted change-score analysis with chained multiple imputation (MICE) to model attrition. Growing concern about increase in female literacy and improvement in their socio-economic conditions is an offshoot of the growing awareness and concern about the population problem among planners and policy-makers. The explosive rate of population growth is a major obstacle to achieving a better quality of life for the majority of the populace in Pakistan. An uplift in the status of females through increased educational and employment opportunities lead to fertility decline. This article analyzes the relation between conjugal status and fertility in Quebec. We use data from three censuses to estimate a series of fertility measures within marriage and within cohabitation. We use a comparative approach and look at the relationship between conjugal status and fertility within groups defined by language, place of birth, and place of residence. Results show that childbearing within cohabitation is typical of French-speaking Quebeckers, and that in this group, fertility is now mainly concentrated among cohabiting couples. Given that fertility is now currently slightly h
