Abstract:
In different industries we use different machines and most of the machines are rotary machines. The small fault in machine cause vibrations in machines. These vibrations may cause effect on machine or product produced by machine. So, it is important to study these faults present in the machines. In this paper we are going to discuss fault detection techniques. We are discussing two technique FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation) and Orbital Analysis. In FFT we are getting graphs with respect to frequencies and according to peak frequencies we predict fault while in Orbital Analysis we are getting different orbital shape graph and according to shape we predict fault in machine.

Abstract:
FFT-based digital spectral analyzer has become more and more widely used as a result of the development of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques. Modern Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) and processors have made it possible to make fast measurements with a limited number of hardware.   In this thesis, a design of a simple low-cost FFT-based digital spectrum analyzer was presented. The author discusses the design of each components of the system in qualitatively and quantitatively. The report presents the whole system design in detail which contains filter design, micro-controller design, UART transmission design and MATLAB GUI design. Some satisfying measurement result of the system were presented in the paper. The system can provide fast measurement with good accuracy. But the measured result has a limited range and resolution of the display is not very high. At last, the advantages and disadvantages of the system was discussed which is considered as guidelines for further work.

Abstract:
Whether caused by trauma, internal diseases, or spontaneously; pneumothorax and hemothorax are potentially life threatening illnesses. They are currently primarily diagnosed with x-rays, CT scans, and ultrasound imaging. While these methods are generally reliable, they are not always available to the injured patient. Life threatening pneumothoraces, such as tension pneumothorax, must be treated quickly. When diagnosed correctly, pneumothorax and hemothorax can be quickly mended through insertion of chest tubes. X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasound imaging require large scale equipment and are not always dependable. There is a more reliable, portable, and faster result producing method to diagnose pneumothorax. Vibro-acoustic waves can be sent through the chest and the resulting wave can be measured. By analyzing attenuation characteristics determined by the geometry of the chest structures, it can be determined if the patient's pleural space is healthy, contains air (pneumothrax), or contains fluid (hemothorax).

Abstract:
This report will cover the work process behind creating a spectrum analyzer. The reader will be able to read about the chosen method but also the alternative methods. Apart from this the theoretical parts behind every moment will also be covered and compared to potential alternative solutions. The project has been carried out on behalf of KA Automation. The purpose of the project was to create a base for analyzing sound frequencies. The goal was to be able to identify sound properties in the form of frequencies in servo motors in for example water pumps. The idea was to be able to in a later development stage be able to identify when new frequencies have entered the audio profile which might result in the motor to be in need of service. The base is created with the help of C# and the sound library NAudio. From the result one can conclude that this program can analyze sound and display the magnitude of its frequency components and is therefore a suitable base for future development.

Chen, Manxiang. "Study of Ripening Characteristics of Full-Fat and Low-Fat Cheddar Cheese Using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Texture Analyzer." DigitalCommons@USU, 1998. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/5448.

Full text
Abstract:
A suitable microtome sampling technique was used to sample cheese for analysis using FTIR spectroscopy. Well-separated fat- and protein-related bands were obtained in the spectra of Cheddar and Mozzarella cheese samples using this method. The absorbance intensity of the spectra was proportional to the thickness of the sample. The intensity of absorbance and fat- and protein-related bands increased with an increase in the fat and protein content in the sample. Strong and well-separated bands at 1744, 1450, 1240, 1170, and 1115 cm-1 arising mainly from fat content were observed using this method. Bands observed at 1650 and 1540 cm-1 were attributed to the protein present in the cheese. Bands at 1615-1639, 1640-1648, 1650-1658, and 1660-1688 cm-1 corresponding to β-sheet, random coil, helix, and the turns/sheet portion of the secondary structure were observed int he range of the amide I band. Characteristics of spectra for full-fat (FFCC) and reduced-fat Cheddar cheese (RFCC) during ripening were investigated. The absorbance of bands at 1116-1240 from C-C, C-O, C-N stretch, 1461 cm-1 from C-N bend (scissoring), 1744 cm-1 from ester carbonyl groups (fat A), 2850-2930 cm-1 from C-H stretch (fat B), 1650 and 1540 cm-1 from protein amide I and II varied druing cheese aging. Bands at 1116 and1240 cm-1 arising from C-O, C-N, and C-C stretch changed slightly during cheese aging. A correlation coefficient of 0.97 for bands between 1744 and 1167 cm-1 arising from fat, and that of 0.93 at 1650 and 1540 cm-1 arising from protein, respectively, showed that one of these fat or protein groups was highly related to the other. A correlation coefficient of greater than 0.80 among the bands of fat and protein groups indicated a strong interaction in those bands. Correlation of ripening time and absorbance at bands corresponding to each function group was analyzed. A ripening index model was obtained by correlating ripening time with predominant reactive group absorbance peaks. An R2 of 0.83 and 0.59 was obtained for full-fat and reduced fat Cheddar cheese, respectively. Texture development and its correlation with FTIR spectra data for FFCC and RFCC during aging were also studied. RFCC had a higher value of hardness, gumminess, and chewiness than its full-fat counterpart. The values decreased during the early stages of ripening and then increased with time. The change in hardness, adhesiveness, and springiness was expressed as a function of the change in absorbance of the FTIR spectra using multiple regression analysis. An R2 value of 0.67, 0.54, and 0.75 was obtained for full-fat Cheddar cheese, and a value of 0.51, 0.59, and 0.54 was obtained for reduced-fat Cheddar cheese for the respective texture parameters.

Abstract:
Fat-filleddairy powders have acquired a growing interest from both an economical and a scientific point of view. They include a large variety of products for numerous food applications such as infant formulae, dairy ingredients, cattle feeding, and ecapsulated flavors. Fat supramolecular structure in fat-filled dairy powders can be very complex and is often poorly understood. It gives specific physicochemical properties to fat, which in turn gives specific functional properties to the surrounding matrix. Despite its interest, there was no exhaustive academic study of the topic at the beginning of this Ph. D. Program. Furthermore, controlling the physicochemical propoerties of these powders was still rather empirical in the industry. Hence, investigating the scientific issues related to fat supramolecular structure in fat-filled dairy powders appearead to be of primary importance for both the academic and industrial communities worldwide. The aims of this Ph. D. Research program were to investigate fat supramolecular structure and properties in fat-filled dairy powders in order (1) to determine adapted chemical compositions and process parameters to orientate fat supramolecular structure in fat-filled dairy powders, (2) to reach a better understanding of the mechanisms of the formation and evolution of fat supramolecular structure and fat physicochemical properties, and finally (3) to control powder physicochemical properties. The strategy was original as the study considered powders manufactured at the laboratory in controlled and industrial-like conditions and as specific methods for lipids were adapted to fat-filled dairy powders

Abstract:
This chapter examines how multiple offenders seem to pose a problem for broadly retributive principles of sentencing, focusing on the proper place and exercise of discretion to show why such problems are only apparent. It begins with a discussion of the issue of multiple offending and the discretion it seems to give sentencers as well as the bulk-discount principle that appears to guide decisions. It then considers two ways in which bulk discounts may appear to conflict with retributive sentencing theory, the fittingness problem and the selection problem. It also analyzes the key guiding thought within retributive approaches to criminal justice and distinguishes between two types of retributivism, moralistic and legalistic. The chapter concludes with the argument that retributivism is compatible with common approaches to multiple-offense sentencing.

Abstract:
Chapter 11 analyzes how all the preceding elements of the new definition of rhetoric as the negotiation of distance fit together. What is meant by negotiation? People can, and do, maintain, increase, or diminish the distance between themselves on a daily basis. After the preceding accounts of logos, ethos, and pathos, this final chapter is devoted to the analysis of distance. It analyzes how rhetoric affects the variations in distance between individuals, and how the variations of distance in turn affect the rhetorical impact sought by the interlocutors. This is where the distinction between the projective view that one has of others plays just as much of a role as the effective situation of others. The discrepancy between the projective and the effective can make distance itself an object of rhetorical debate.

Abstract:
Like other bilateral investment treaties (BITs), Chinese BITs establish a set of general standards of treatment accorded to foreign investors by the host state. The most commonly found general standards of treatment include fair and equitable treatment (FET), (full) protection and security (PNS), most favoured nation treatment (MFN), and national treatment (NT). The first two belong to the group of non-contingent standards (or so-called “absolute standard of treatment”), whilst the latter two are forms of contingent standards (or “relative standards of treatment”). Absolute standards do not depend on treatment granted to other investors. In contrast, the relative standards are contingent on treatment given to other categories of investors, nationals of the host state in the case of NT and investors from third states for the MFN. This chapter begins with an examination of the FET standard, focusing on the different approaches of interpretations that have been developed in theory and in arbitration practice. It then analyzes the standard under Chinese BITs and assesses the implications of its standard format and any variations.

Abstract:
The free vibration of a rudder is studied here by theoretical, numerical, and experimental means. The rudder is modeled as a Kirchhoff’s plate, with chord-wise sections as symmetrical aerofoils of NACA0018 section. The free vibration is also studied numerically. The results have been compared with experimental studies. A model scale rudder has been constructed from a 3 mm thick metal sheet, with a length-scale ratio of 1:10. Impact hammer test has been down to excite all the natural frequencies, which have been picked up by two accelerometers into an FFT analyzer. Comparative studies have been done among the three methods.

Abstract:
Construction activities entail substantial disturbance of topsoil and vegetative cover. As a result, stormwater runoff and erosion rates are increased significantly. If the soil erosion and subsequently generated sediment are not contained within the site, they would have a negative off-site impact as well as a detrimental influence on the receiving water body. In this study, replicable large-scale tests were used to analyze the ability of products to prevent sediment from exiting the perimeter of a site via sheet flow. The goal of these tests was to compare products to examine how well they retain sediment and how much ponding occurs upstream, as well as other criteria of interest to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The products analyzed were silt fence, woven monofilament geotextile, Filtrexx Siltsoxx, ERTEC ProWattle, triangular silt dike, sediment log, coconut coir log, Siltworm, GeoRidge, straw wattles, and Terra-Tube. Joint tests and vegetated buffer strip tests were also conducted. The duration of each test was 30 minutes, and 116 pounds of clay-loam soil were mixed with water in a 300 gallon tank. The solution was continuously mixed throughout the test. The sediment-water slurry was uniformly discharged over an 8 ft by 20 ft impervious 3:1 slope. The bottom of the slope had a permeable zone (8 ft by 8 ft) constructed from the same soil used in the mixing. The product was installed near the center of this zone. Water samples were collected at 5 minute intervals upstream and downstream of the product. These samples were analyzed for total sediment concentration to determine the effectiveness of each product. The performance of each product was evaluated in terms of sediment removal, ponding, ease of installation, and sustainability.

Ghanipoor Machiani, Sahar, Aryan Sohrabi, and Arash Jahangiri. Impact of Regular and Narrow AV-Exclusive Lanes on Manual Driver Behavior. Mineta Transportation Institute, October 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2020.1922.

Full text
Abstract:
This study attempts to answer the question of how a narrow (9-ft) lane dedicated to Automated Vehicles (AVs) would affect the behavior of drivers in the adjacent lane to the right. To this end, a custom driving simulator environment was designed mimicking the Interstate 15 smart corridor in San Diego. A group of participants was assigned to drive next to the simulated 9-ft narrow lane while a control group was assigned to drive next to a regular 12-ft AV lane. Driver behavior was analyzed by measuring the mean lane position, mean speed, and mental effort (self-reported/subjective measure). In addition to AV lane width, the experimental design took into consideration AV headway, gender, and right lane traffic to investigate possible interaction effects. The results showed no significant differences in the speed and mental effort of drivers while indicating significant differences in lane positioning. Although the overall effect of AV lane width was not significant, there were some significant interaction effects between lane width and other factors (i.e., driver gender and presence of traffic on the next regular lane to the right). Across all the significant interactions, there was no case in which those factors stayed constant while AV lane width changed between the groups, indicating that the significant difference stemmed from the other factors rather than the lane width. However, the trend observed was that drivers driving next to the 12-ft lane had better lane centering compared to the 9ft lane. The analysis also showed that while in general female drivers tended to drive further away from the 9-ft lane and performed worse in terms of lane centering, they performed better than male drivers when right-lane traffic was present. This study contributes to understanding the behavioral impacts of infrastructure adaptation to AVs on non-AV drivers.

Lines, Lisa M., Florence K. L. Tangka, Sonja Hoover, and Sujha Subramanian. People with Colorectal Cancer in SEER-Medicare: Part D Uptake, Costs, and Outcomes. RTI Press, May 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.3768/rtipress.2020.rr.0037.2005.

Full text
Abstract:
Limited information exists about enrollment in Part D prescription coverage by Medicare beneficiaries with cancer. Part D coverage may increase access to medicines. This study evaluated patterns of Part D uptake and costs and assessed the effects of coverage on hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) use among people with colorectal cancer (CRC). We analyzed Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)–Medicare linked data on fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare beneficiaries with at least 36 months of follow-up who were diagnosed with CRC at any point from January 2007 through December 2010, and a matched cohort of beneficiaries without cancer. Dual (Medicare/Medicaid) enrollees were excluded because they are automatically enrolled in Part D. Among beneficiaries with CRC (n=12,774), 39 percent had complete Part D coverage, defined as coverage in the diagnosis year and 2 subsequent years; the rate was 38 percent in the matched comparison cohort (P=.119). Among those with complete Part D coverage, there was no significant difference in annual prescription drug costs between people with CRC ($3,157, 95% confidence interval [CI]: $3,098–$3,216) and without ($3,113, 95% CI: $3,054–$3,172). Among people with CRC, odds of ED use ranged from unchanged to marginally higher for those with no or partial Part D coverage, (adjusted odds ratio: 1.09, 95% CI: 1.00–1.18), compared with those with complete Part D coverage. Lack of continuous Part D coverage was associated with more ED use among Medicare FFS beneficiaries with CRC in 2007–2013. Among people with Part D coverage, prescription drug costs varied little between those with CRC and matched beneficiaries without cancer.

Abstract:
In 2015, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF), together with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and other partners, founded the initiative "Strategic Networking Platforms in the Context of Major Societal Challenges", including such a platform on issues of demographic change. The BMBWF has commissioned the Austrian Platform for Interdisciplinary Ageing Issues(ÖPIA) with its implementation. The three-year BMBWF funding for the Ageing Network expired in mid-2019. Therefore, Department V/10 of the BMBWF commissioned Technopolis Group Austria to evaluate the Ageing Network. The aim of this evaluation was to form a basis for the decision on the further funding of the Network Ageing after the expiry of the current contract. To this end, we analysed and evaluated what has been achieved so far and developed recommendations for the future work of the Network Ageing. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

Validation of Multispectral Imaging (MSI) technology for food and feed analysis. Food Standards Agency, August 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.zcr161.

Full text
Abstract:
The current testing environment for food and feed samples is complex and uses a wide variety of analytical technologies that range from chemical to PCR-based. Whilst these approaches can be deemed fit for purpose in terms of their final analytical result, they tend to be highly specialised and require considerable frontend processing to ensure that the target analyte can be reliably detected and quantified. These combined sample processing and analytical requirements typically impact on testing times and have associated cost implications that must be factored into routine testing and monitoring applications. MSI uses multiple discrete and informative wavelengths covering regions such as the UV and near infra-red spectrum to quickly determine surface colour, texture and possible chemical composition. Compared to traditional molecular biology approaches utilising DNA extraction followed by PCR-based analyses, MSI can simplify and reduce the time/costs associated with sample analysis. It is rapid and non-destructive.
