Abstract Fluorescence immunoassay (FIA), a relatively new technique for measuring rheumatoid factors (RF), is automated, quantitative, and calibrated against the Centers for Disease Control reference material for RF. We studied the FIA method in relation to a panel of RF methods, both qualitative [latex (LA) and sheep cell agglutination (SSCA)], and quantitative [nephelometry and enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA)]. Regression analysis revealed a highly significant correlation between FIA and either LA (r = 0.90) or nephelometry (r = 0.87). The correlation between FIA and either SSCA (r = 0.62)

Abstract:
This paper explains a new procedure for flow injection analysis (FIA) determination of iron in rain water based on the colour reaction of Fe3+with thiocyanate ions in the presence of the cationic surfactant cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). The value of apparent molar absorptivity of the complex in terms of iron is (2.00) x 104l mole-1cm-1at an absorption maximum of 490 nm. The detection limit of the method is 8 ppb Fe. The sample throughput is 90 samples/h at a flow rate of 4.0 ml/min. The reaction mechanism, optimization of FIA variables, and effect of various types of surfactant are described

One of the main factors limiting agricultural production in tropical climate regions is mainly related to the presence of exchangeable aluminum (Al3+) in highly weathered acid soils. Four methods of Al3+ determination extracted with neutral 1 mol L¹ KCl solution were evaluated: three colorimetric methods (aluminon plus ascorbic acid, and eriochrome cyanine R by FIA) and the usual titrimetric method with back-titration. Surface samples from 20 soils of different Brazilian regions, with active acidity (0.01 mol L¹ CaCl2 pH) ranging from very high to medium (3.82 to 5.52), were used. The variance

Simple and sensitive batch and Flow-injection spectrophotometric methods for the determination of Procaine HCl in pure form and in injections were proposed. These methods were based on a diazotization reaction of procaine HCl with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid to form diazonium salt, which is coupled with chromatropic acid in alkaline medium to form an intense pink water-soluble dye that is stable and has a maximum absorption at 508 nm. A graphs of absorbance versus concentration show that Beer’s law is obeyed over the concentration range of 1-40 and 5-400 µg.ml-1 of Procaine HCl, with

AbstractWatery tobacco extracts were examined with the aid of flow-injection analysis (FIA) for the substances nicotine, nitrate, chloride, ammonium and phosphate. The results proved to be exact and reproducible for the most part and the speed of analysis was between 37 and 113 measurements per hour. Because of its simple modular design the appliance is flexible in its application and is above all suited for the analysis for several components in small series of samples. Abstract An amperometric multisite detection flow injection analysis (FIA) system was developed for sequential determination of 2 analytes with a single sample injection and single detector. Tubular composite carbon electrodes with an inner diameter similar to that of the FIA manifold tubing were constructed so that measurements could be made without impairing the sample plug hydrodynamic characteristics. The electrochemical behavior of the tubular voltammetric cell in a low-dispersion FIA manifold and the behavior of the FIA system incorporating this type of voltammetric cell intended for mul

Two flow methods, based, respectively, on flow-injection analysis (FIA) and on multicommutated flow analysis (MCFA), were compared with regard to their use for the determination of total selenium in infant formulas by hydride-generation atomic absorption spectrometry. The method based on multicommutation provided lower detection and quantification limits (0.08 and 0.27 μg L−1compared to 0.59 and 1.95 μ L−1, resp.), higher sampling frequency (160versus. 70 samples per hour), and reduced reagent consumption. Linearity, precision, and accuracy were similar for the two methods compared. It was con

Background: Fistula in ano (FIA) is a chronic complex condition of ano-rectal sepsis characterized by cylical-pain and intermittent chronic purulent discharge. The management of fistula is challenging. In spite of all the advances in the management of FIA, no single method is univresally applicable to all types of FIA due to incontinence and recurrences associated with the individual procedures. Methods: Aims of this study were to compare the outcomes between ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) and conventional fistulectomy (CF) with 60 patients randomized into 2 groups, 30 in eac
