Abstract:
Background: Foreign body aspiration from tracheostomy is very rare, and materials related to tracheostomy are usually aspirated. This condition, which can lead to serious complications, can be treated using bronchoscopic procedures. In this study, we aimed to present our clinical experience in foreign body aspiration via tracheostomy. Methods: Data from 26 patients who presented to our hospital for foreign body aspiration via tracheostomy from 2006 to 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Foreign bodies were removed by fiber optic bronchoscopy in 15 (57.7%) cases, by rigid bronchoscopy

Restricted mouth opening is a challenging airway in pediatric patients with temperomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. The fiber-optic bronchoscopic nasotracheal intubation technique continues to be the gold standard for difficult airway, among the techniques available such as submandibular intubation, retrograde intubation, and tracheostomy. However, awake fiber-optic bronchoscopy (FOB) is difficult to achieve in pediatric patients. Airway foreign bodies, especially metallic objects, present significant risks in pediatric patients. A 21-month-old boy with severe stridor had an light emitting diode light lodged in his glottis. Fiber-optic bronchoscopy using a supraglottic airway facilitated the visualization. A small-sized endotracheal tube was used to secure the airway before successfully retrieving the foreign body. The child was stable, extubated after 24 h, and discharged on day 4. This case highlights the fiber-optic bronchoscopy techniques in managing difficult airway foreign bodies in children.

Background: Fiber-optic bronchoscopy (FOB) is an invasive procedure performed to identify possible endobronchial lesions. Diabetic patients often present with non-resolving pneumonia and collapse, many of whom are elderly and smoker; thus always giving rise to the suspicion of malignancy. Methods: This observational study was performed from March 2009 to August 2013 in the Department of Internal Medicine and Pulmonology of BIRDEM General Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh; a 500 bedded tertiary care hospital dealing mostly with diabetic patients. Results: Out of 160 diabetic patients 126 (78.7%) were m

Abstract Background: Central airway obstruction can arise from both benign and malignant conditions, as well as from congenital or acquired causes. One common cause of acquired central airway obstruction is post-intubation subglottic and tracheal stenosis. Presentations can vary widely, from asymptomatic cases to symptoms such as difficulty clearing secretions and dyspnea on exertion due to airway narrowing. Critical tracheal or subglottic stenosis may present with stridor. Bronchoscopy is the primary diagnostic tool for assessing the type and severity of stenosis in the subglottic and trachea
