Abstract:
Fick’s second law and its analytical solution were usually used for analysis of chloride diffusion in concrete. But discretization of the continuous variables is more appropriate in modeling and discrete model is more suitable for engineering applications. In this paper, Difference Equation equivalent to partial differential equation was established with the difference method, and three-dimensional differential equation of Fick's second law was resolved. Based on this study, the convergence conditions of difference Equations for one-dimensional, 2D and 3D diffusion was given.

The paper describes the application of a mathematical model to describe gas drainage in coal seams. The mechanism of gas flow from coal is not very clear at present. It can either follow Darcy’s law or Fick’s law of diffusion. In the opinion of the authors, a the earlier stages where the gas pressure is high, Darcy’s law applies [8]. At later stages when gas pressure is stabilised, Fick’s law of diffusion is applicable. In this study, therefore, Fick’s law has been applied. The moisture absorption experiments of two kinds of molding compound are conducted. The diffusion at low temperature and humidity observes the Fick’s Law, but it does not strictly obey at higher temperature and humidity. The phenomena can be attributed to the occurrence of the second phase, and the Fick’s Law can be modified by diffusion coefficient varying with the moisture concentration. The predicted value by the modified Fick’s Law agrees with the test data. Abstract The effect of different thermal cycle profiles on thermal barrier coating (TBC) spallation lifetime was investigated. Fick’s law was used to describe the thermally grown oxide (TGO) buildup. It was found that Fick’s law can be used to correlate between damage thickness and oxide thickness for different thermal cycle profiles. A critical oxide thickness of 12 μm can be associated with spallation life for the 8 wt% YSZ /PtAl/Rene N5 EB-PVD system. The importance of this correlation is that, for a given thermal cycle profile, the number of cycles to spallation can be predicted analytical

In normal diffusion, the diffusivity can be considered constant and the concentration of the diffusive particles follows Fick’s law.
