Abstract:
Two-wheeled mobile robots with deformed wheels face low stability when climbing steps, and their success rate in overcoming steps is affected by the trajectory. To address these challenges, we propose an improved hybrid genetic and adaptive particle swarm optimization (HGAPSO) algorithm to optimize the deformed wheels’ trajectory for overcoming steps. HGAPSO optimizes the maximum and minimum values of the inertial weight and learning factors of the adaptive particle swarm algorithm utilizing the region-wide search capabilities of the genetic algorithm, which substantially improves the converge

Heavy vehicles play an economically important role in the transportation process, and their numbers have been increasing for several decades. The active safety of the highway system is an important consideration in the design of a heavy vehicle combination. In this paper, the handling characteristics of a 5-axle tractor-semitrailer is examined and used to test for the desired features of the vehicle’s handling and stability. Using these results the optimal control criterion is derived for the vehicle. Four different control strategies are examined by using the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR)

Full-timing, living year-round in a recreational vehicle, is discussed as a viable housing alternative for older people. Data were obtained from surveys distributed to 100 members of a nationally-based camping organization. Fifty-five percent of the respondents had lived in their motorhomes, fifth-wheels, or travel trailers for at least two years. Most had sold their conventional homes, planning to full-time indefinitely. Low-cost and adventurous, full-timing is discussed as a lifestyle especially suited for older people in the context of today's mobile society.

There is a path from a gait to any other gait. 2. The robot does not fall into the endless loop of detection, because it moves whenever it detects something. 3. Mobility, or locomotion, is as important a function for robots as manipulation. A robot can enlarge its work space by locomotion. It can also recognize its environment well with its sensors by moving around and by observing its surroundings from various directions. Much researches has been done on mobile robots and the research appears to be mature. Research activity on robot mobility is still very active; for example, 22% of the sessions at ICRA'98 - the International Conference on Robotics and Automation - and 24% of the sessions at IROS'98 - the International Conference on Intelligent Robot

Local effects of ground-based timber harvesting, such as soil compaction, are often important for forest management and resilience of forests. One way to evaluate the compaction of the forest soils is by the penetration resistance. Most often, however, the control over the weight of the means used to extract the wood is difficult to maintain, influencing therefore the outcomes of the comparison studies. In this study, a controlled experiment was set up to see how the penetration resistance is affected by the number of passes of three wood extraction methods. A first objective of the study was

Abstract Multi-section chassis have a great potential for geometric and fifth wheel cross-country ability. An example is a model of a six-wheeled all-wheel drive planetary rover designed at VNIITM to study the mobility of the mobile laboratory of the Mars-94/96 project. The concept of extreme cross-country chassis involves the use of three articulated sections with a wheel mover with a removable track or a permanent track module. The rotation is carried out by changing the relative position of the sections in the plan. The article proposes mathematical models that make it possible to calculate

This paper examines two different methods for vehicle braking performance testing, one involving piezo sensors and the other involving a “fifth” wheel. A comparison of the results with the two testing systems was done. The braking process of two cars (with and without ABS) was tested. The results show that very close values were obtained by the two systems. The advantages of these systems were analyzed. The system with a piezo sensor gave more informative results for the braking process. The system with the “fifth” wheel provided an easy way to estimate the car’s braking performance.

The fifth wheel of the semi-trailer tractor is a key component connecting the tractor and the semi-trailer. During operation, the fifth wheel experiences frequent irregular and repetitive loading conditions. This leads to a decline in its durability and fatigue life, which can significantly impact the efficiency of cargo transport. The lightweight design enhances both the transport efficiency and fuel economy of the semi-trailer tractor. In this research, to achieve weight reduction while maintaining the wear-resistant failure protection performance in semi-trailer tractors, we selected a new
