Abstract:
This thesis consists of three studies which cover topics in the trading volume-market return volatility linkage, stock market return-aggregate mutual fund flow relationship as well as market return volatility-aggregate mutual fund flow interaction. Chapter 2 investigates the issue of volume-volatility linkage in the US market for the period 1990-2012 (S&P 500) and 1992-2012 (Dow Jones). We construct four sub-samples depending on three different structural points (the Asian Financial Crisis, the Dot-Com Bubble and the 2007 Financial Crisis). By employing univariate and bivariate GARCH processes, we find positive (negative) bidirectional linkages between these two aforementioned variables in various cases of the estimation, while a mixed one is observed in the remainder of these cases. Chapter 3 examines the issue of temporal ordering of the range-based stock market return (S&P 500 index) and aggregate mutual fund flow in the U.S. market for the period 1998-2012. We construct nine sub-samples represented by three fundamental cases of the whole data set. In addition, we take into consideration three essential indicators when splitting the whole data set, which are the 2000 Dot-Com Bubble, the 2007 Financial Crisis as well as the 2009 European Sovereign Debt Crisis. We examine the dynamics of the return-flow interaction by employing bivariate VAR model with various specifications of GARCH approach. Our principal findings display a bidirectional mixed feedback between stock market return and aggregate mutual fund flow for the majority of the sub-samples obtained. Nevertheless, we provide limited evidence of a positive bi-directional causality between return and flow. Chapter 4 investigates the dynamic relation between S&P 500 return volatility and U.S. aggregate mutual fund flow for the period spanning between 1998 and 2012. We assess the dynamics of the volatility-flow linkage by employing a bivariate VAR model with the GARCH approach which allows for long memory in the mean and the variance equations. In addition to the sub-samples obtained in chapter 3, we generate two measurements of volatility. Our baseline results indicate a variety of bidirectional mixed causalities between market return volatility and aggregate mutual fund flow in several sub-samples. In addition, we observe a negative/positive bi-directional relationship between volatility and flow in the rest of the sub-periods. Summarizing, a range of our findings are in line with the empirical underpinnings that most likely predict a significant linkage between the aforementioned variables. Finally, most of the bidirectional effects are found to be quite robust to the dynamics of the various GARCH processes employed in this thesis.

Keliami uždaviniai: GARCH modelių klasės taikymas ilgo periodo finansiniams duomenims: modelių parametrų paieška, jų vertinimas, testavimas ir taikymas. Ilga atmintis sąlyginiame variantiškume yra viena iš empirinių savybių, kurią turi daugelis finansinių laiko eilučių. Viena modelių klasė, kuri atvaizduoja šį elgesį yra vadinama Dalinai Integruotu GARCH (Baillie, Bollerslev ir Mikkelsen 1996). Dalinės integracijos idėją pateikė ir ją pritaikė GARCH struktūrai Granger (1980) ir Hosking (1981). Šiame darbe bus surastos analitinės FIGARCH proceso antros eilės logaritminės tikėtinumo funkcijos išvestinės. Ilgo diapazono priklausomybė bus apskaičiuota parametriniu dalinai integruotu GARCH modeliu. Finansinių laiko eilučių duomenys bus įvertinti GARCH (CGARCH(1), CGARCH(2)) ir FIGARCH(1,d,1)) modeliais maksimalaus tikėtinumo metodu. Taip pat bus sukurtas NASDAQ- NYSE santykinio stiprumo indikatorius bei patikrintos jo panaudojimo sąlygos. Iiustracija yra pateikta 5 akcijų indeksais, 2 valiutų santykiais, aukso bei NNSS duomenims.
The paper deals with the problems of applying GARCH model/framework to a long term financial data, the search of the models, their evaluation, testing/validation and application. Long memory in conditional variance is one of the empirical features exhibited by many financial time series. One class of models that was suggested to capture this behavior is the so-called Fractionally Integrated GARCH (Baillie, Bollerslev and Mikkelsen 1996) in which the ideas of fractional integration originally introduced by Granger (1980) and Hosking (1981) for processes of the mean are applied to GARCH framework. In this paper we derive analytic expressions for the second-order derivatives of the log-likelihood function of FIGARCH processes. Long-range dependence is assessed through the parametric fractionally integrated GARCH model. Financial time series data will be estimated Component GARCH (CGARCH(1), CGARCH(2)) and FIGARCH models maximum likelihood method. Also we built NASDAQ- NYSE relative strength indicator and tested its usage conditions. An illustration is provided on 2 exchange rate, 5 stock index, gold and NNSS data.

Abstract:
O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar e comparar diferentes métodos de modelagem da volatilidade (variância condicional) de séries temporais financeiras. O modelo ARFIMA é empregado para capturar o comportamento de memória longa observado na volatilidade de séries financeiras. Por sua vez, o modelo GARCH é utilizado para modelar a volatilidade variando no tempo destas séries. Finalmente, o modelo FIGARCH é utilizado para modelar a dinâmica dos retornos de séries temporais financeiras juntamente com sua volatilidade. Serão apresentados alguns estimadores para os parâmetros dos modelos estudados. Foram realizadas simulações dos três tipos de modelos com o objetivo de comparar o comportamento dos estimadores para diferentes valores dos parâmetros. Por fim, serão apresentadas aplicações em séries reais.
The goal of this project is to present and compare differents methods of modeling volatility (conditional variance) in financial time series. ARFIMA model is applied to capture long memory behavior of volatility in financial time series. GARCH model is used to model the temporal variation in financial volatility. Finally, FIGARCH model is used to model dynamic of financial time series returns as well as its volatility behavior. We present some estimators for the studied models. Estimators behavior of the three types of models for different parameters is assessed through a simulation study. At last, applications to real data are presented.

L’objet de cette thèse est de donner une analyse approfondie du système de la gestion du risque de change mis en place dans les entreprises internationales, et surtout, d’améliorer la performance de ce système en introduisant des outils économétriques. Pour ce faire, le modèle ARFIMA-FIGARCH a été proposé afin de modéliser les cours historiques des taux de change « les Grands Six » et d’en donner ensuite les prévisions. Les résultats trouvent que la capacité prévisionnelle du modèle ARFIMA-FIGARCH surpasse systématiquement à différents horizons le modèle « Marche Aléatoire » qui ne donne simplement que des prévisions naïves. L’utilisation du modèle ARFIMA-FIGARCH peut potentiellement faciliter le travail de la gestion du risque de change. La décision de couverture contre ce risque s’en trouvera nettement améliorée
The purpose of this work is to give a thorough analysis on the exchange risk management system in the international enterprises, and, the most important, to improve the performance of this system by introducing the econometrical tools. For this purpose, the ARFIMA-FIGARCH econometric model has been introduced and applied to the exchange rate series of the “Great Six” with the presence of the long memory phenomenon. A comparison of the predictive ability has been made between ARFIMA-FIGARCH model and random walk. Our results suggest that the efficiency hypothesis of the exchange market would be strongly questioned. Application of such result to exchange rate would improve significantly hedging methods

Economic variables are often governed by dynamic and non-linear processes that can originate long-term relationship and non-periodic and non-cyclical patterns with abrupt trend changes. Commodity prices exhibit this type of behavior and the peculiarities of those markets could generate fractionally integrated time series, whose singularities could not be properly captured by the traditional analytic models based on the efficient market hypothesis and random walk processes. Therefore, this study has investigated the presence of fractal structures on some very important Brazilian commodity spot markets such as coffee, cattle, sugar, soybean and calf. Some traditional techniques were used as well as other specific for fractal time series analysis, such as rescaled range (R/S) analysis, different fractal hypothesis tests and ARFIMA and FIGARCH models. The results showed that the drift component has not shown fractal behavior, except for the calf series, however, volatility has demonstrated fractal behavior for all the commodities that were analyzed.
As variáveis econômicas são frequentemente governadas por processos dinâmicos e não-lineares que podem gerar relações de dependência de longo prazo e padrões cíclicos não-periódicos com mudanças abruptas de tendências. Para o caso dos preços agrícolas este comportamento não é diferente e as peculiaridades destes mercados podem gerar séries temporais fracionalmente integradas, cujas singularidades não seriam adequadamente capturadas pelos tradicionais modelos analíticos fundamentados na hipótese dos mercados eficientes e de passeio aleatório. Sendo assim, o presente estudo buscou investigar a presença de estruturas fractais no mercado à vista de algumas das principais commodities agrícolas brasileiras: café, boi gordo, açúcar, milho, soja e bezerro. Foram empregadas técnicas tradicionais e específicas para a análise de séries temporais fractais como a análise de R/S e a aplicação de modelos das famílias ARFIMA e FIGARCH. Os resultados indicaram que, com exceção do bezerro, o componente de drift destas séries não apresentou comportamento fractal, ao contrário do observado para o componente da volatilidade, que apresentou aspecto de estrutura fractal para todas as commodities analisadas.

Den här uppsatsen beskriver arbetet bakom föreställningen Figaro. Figaro är en omarbetad och nedkortad version av Mozarts älskade opera Figaros bröllop. Föreställningen har arbetats fram utifrån ett genusperspektiv och har gemensamt skapats och formats av hela sångensemblen och dirigenten. Ambitionen har varit att behålla operans ursprungliga hierarkier och maktförhållande mellan rollfigurerna, men att göra en översättning av handlingen till modern tid. Ett stort arbete har gjorts med att försöka skapa situationer och rollfigurer som känns verklighetstrogna. I föreställningen vill vi synliggöra några av de strukturer och mönster som vi är vana att möta på operascenen, på våra arbetsplatser och på musikhögskolan. Central i handlingen står Rosina Almaviva och hennes förhållande till de övriga karaktärerna.

Esta tesis de maestr?a tiene como objetivo analizar la propuesta nacional de identidad y art?stico que Pedro Figari articula en su producci?n escrita y pict?rica, para visualizar los negros uruguayos y los gauchos cruzados. Con este fin, la investigaci?n se centra en los dispositivos de fijaci?n de identidad y la memoria. El marco de tiempo de la investigaci?n abarca la primera mitad del siglo XX, tiempo en que las cuestiones relacionadas con el nacionalismo est?n surgiendo tanto en el debate pol?tico como en el arte. Las celebraciones del centenario de la independencia de Uruguay fomentan los debates y hacen viable los dispositivos de una identidad-memoria nacional. En este contexto, la recuperaci?n de la figura del gaucho (blanco) como un h?roe nacional, construido a partir de la reinterpretaci?n hist?rica. Pedro Figari encuentra la producci?n acad?mica tradicional impulsado por la norma europea cl?sica y promovida por el gobierno, siendo disonante en medio de la producci?n art?stica y pol?tica del per?odo.

Abstract:
Preparing an operatic role is a very extensive process for a student singer. Problems that confront a young singer when challenged with a new role are numerous. Aside from having to prepare vocally for the role there are many other aspects of the preparation process that are equally as difficult. The role which I prepared was the Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart. Due to the fact that I was to perform the opera in Italian I completed a word by word translation of the entire opera. I also had to learn how to correctly pronounce each word that I sang so that the audience would understand what I said. I spent countless hours working on vocal production and an equal amount in rehearsal while learning how to perform this highly specialized form of music. In conclusion to the performances I found that I had a far greater ability to perform Mozart's music while possessing a solid understanding of the Italian language.

Atualmente, existe uma grande demanda por peixes ornamentais marinhos destinados à indústria da aquariofilia. A realidade extrativista e altamente seletiva desta atividade leva a um alto risco de sobre-explotação dos recursos naturais. Uma alternativa para diminuir o extrativismo destes peixes, especialmente os ameaçados de extinção, é o desenvolvimento de tecnologia para a produção desses animais em cativeiro. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver tecnologia para a produção massiva do neon gobi, Elacatinus figaro, uma espécie de peixe ornamental marinho nativo ameaçado de extinção. Ao longo de 7 meses foram obtidas 52 desovas e 41 larviculturas do neon. Animais selvagens iniciaram a formação de casais 20 dias após a aclimatação às condições de cativeiro. As desovas iniciaram-se após 12 dias de pareamento, e ocorreram de forma freqüente. A fêmea desova de 140 a 700 ovos num intervalo de 11 dias, em média. O período de incubação dos ovos durou em média 6,8 dias a 25 ºC. As melhores taxas de eclosão dos ovos e sobrevivência das larvas obtidas foram de 99,5% e 30,6%, respectivamente. Como principais resultados, destaca-se a geração de conhecimentos sobre a bioecologia desta espécie de peixe ornamental marinho, bem como o desenvolvimento de tecnologia produtiva para a espécie em questão.

Abstract:
The practical result of this thesis is an extension to OpenModelica that transforms Modelica into Figaro. Modelica is an equation-based object-oriented modeling language. OpenModelica is an open source implementation of Modelica. Figaro is a language used for reliability modeling. Figaro is a general representation formalism that can be transformed into reliability models like fault trees. Figaro was designed for fault analysis. Modelica was designed to model the behavior of physical systems and run dynamic simulations. Because of that, you cannot just break components and analyze what happens to a system. This work enables us to have fault analysis in OpenModelica by transforming our Modelica model into a Figaro model and invoke the Figaro compiler. This lets us break particular components and see what happens to the system. This work is part of an ongoing effort to integrate several modeling environments.

Undressing Cherubino: Reassessing Gender and Sexuality in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro Although Le nozze di Figaro is one of Mozart’s most celebrated operas, we have not yet understood one crucial element. On the surface of the drama, the opera seems to be about class disruption: the Count is the head of the household, but it is his servants who run it. This plot is made evident to the audience, and it is the message that most critics draw from the work. However, there may be a second meaning below the surface that is, in fact, more subversive than the overt one. While class structures are questioned in the foreground, another more hidden narrative explores alternate depictions of femininity and sexuality. This covert meaning is arguably embodied in Cherubino. This character is portrayed as an adolescent boy despite the fact that the role calls for a female singer. Cherubino is understood to be male, and functions as one in the drama, but, as I will suggest, may in fact be conceived as female. As a pagegirl raging with sexual love for all the women in the palace, Cherubino may be seen embodying a prototype of femininity that is contrary to the heterosexual norms of the overt narrative. The first chapter of this thesis examines how both Pierre-Augustin Beaumarchais’ play Le mariage de Figaro and Mozart and Da Ponte’s operatic adaptation could point towards alternate depictions of women. The following two chapters survey the various ways an alternate gender identity for Cherubino can be expressed through features of the libretto (chapter 2) and the score (chapter 3). Drawing from my experience of performing Cherubino, the fourth and final chapter assesses the findings of the previous two and shows that while elements of the text and music may have characteristics that can be assigned gender attributes, neither can intrinsically embody masculinity or femininity. With this finding comes the understanding that who and what a character is is marked not by the outlines of libretto and score but by acts of musical performance.

Endêmico da costa brasileira, o neon gobi (Elacatinus figaro) é um peixe que apresenta interesse para a o mercado ornamental pelo seu pequeno tamanho e fácil adaptação em cativeiro. Devido à captura excessiva, encontra-se inserido na lista de espécies ameaçadas de extinção. Com intuito de incrementar a produção intensiva do neon gobi, e compreender melhor os aspectos nutricionais, o presente estudo buscou compreender o potencial digestório da espécie através da determinação das proteases alcalinas totais. A atividade enzimática foi medida em peixes com 3, 22, 41 e 180 DAE, através da hidrólise da azocaseína. As proteases alcalinas da Artemia e rotífero foram determinadas para avaliar possíveis contribuições de enzima exógenas. Além disso, o protocolo alimentar comumente utilizado na larvicultura da espécie foi modificado, realizando-se um novo protocolo antecipando-se a oferta de Artemia em 6 dias em relação ao protocolo alimentar comumente usado, onde a atividade enzimática, o crescimento e a metamorfose das larvas foram avaliados em ambos os protocolos. A atividade das proteases alcalinas foi estatisticamente semelhante nos três estágios (3,22 e 41 DAE) da espécie, com um aumento evidente apenas na fase adulta (180 DAE). A contribuição de proteases alcalinas exógena no trato digestório do neon gobi foi de 2% do rotífero e 67,9 % da Artemia. A antecipação do fornecimento da Artemia demonstrou incrementar o crescimento e antecipar a metamorfose das larvas, porém a atividade enzimática das proteases alcalinas foi menor nesse protocolo do que o comumente utilizado, demonstrando-se benéfica do ponto de vista produtivo uma vez que alcançou o tamanho comercial mais cedo, e permaneceu menos tempo dependente da alimentação com a Artemia, o que reduz os custos de produção

O neon gobi Elacatinus figaro é um peixe endêmico do Brasil com grande importância no mercado da aquariofilia. Um dos gargalos para o seu cultivo é o estágio inicial de desenvolvimento larval caracterizado por elevada mortalidade, tanto na primeira semana após a eclosão como também no período que antecede a metamorfose. O experimento avaliou o efeito do hormônio triiodotironina (T3) na larvicultura do neon gobi em relação a taxa de sobrevivência, ao crescimento e a metamorfose larval. Larvas com 14DAE foram imersas em 3 doses de T3: TC (controle) - 0; T01 - 0,01; T025 - 0,025 e T05 - 0,05 mg/L. Uma réplica adicional de cada tratamento foi realizada para análise histológica dos folículos tireoidianos em larvas com 24DAE. As taxas de sobrevivência em TC, T01, T025 e T05 foram de 24, 54, 36 e 37%, respectivamente, sem diferença estatística entre os tratamentos (P>0,05). Quanto ao crescimento, os maiores comprimentos foram encontrados no TC. Nos T025 e T05, a metamorfose foi antecipada em até 11 dias em relação ao TC e T01. Em larvas do T01, os folículos eram numerosos com a presença de vesículas de reabsorção na periferia dos coloides, indicando aumento da produção de hormônios da tireoide (HTs), associado ao processo de metamorfose larval. Já no T05, foi observada a diminuição dos folículos em número e tamanho, caracterizando o fim da metamorfose. A utilização das doses de 0,025 e 0,05mg/L de T3 antecipou a metamorfose do neon gobi, refletindo na diminuição do tempo de larvicultura dessa espécie.

O “neon goby” Elacatinus figaro é endêmico da costa brasileira e foi uma das espécies mais importantes no comércio de peixes ornamentais marinhos do país. Atualmente, encontra-se na lista de espécies ameaçadas de extinção e resguardadas do extrativismo. Este trabalho teve como intuito descrever a reprodução, o desenvolvimento embrionário e a larvicultura do “neon goby” em laboratório. As primeiras desovas naturais foram observadas a partir do 24° dia após a formação dos casais, sendo o intervalo entre as desovas de 8 a 10 dias a 26°C. A fecundidade variou de 430 a 1.020 ovos por desova com média de 648 ± 183 ovos (média ± desvio padrão1, com taxa de eclosão média de 69 ± 16% Os ovos são elípticos, medem 1,81 ± 0,1 mm de comprimento e 0,61 ± 0,03 mm de diâmetro, eles apresentam filamentos adesivos na parte basal e contêm cinco protuberâncias na parte distal. O tempo para eclosão das larvas é de 7 a 8 dias. As larvas recém eclodidas medem 3,15 ± 0,07 mm, apresentam fototaxia positiva, olhos pigmentados, boca aberta e vesícula gasosa inflada. As larvas foram alimentadas com rotíferos Brachionus plicatilis em sistema de água verde com a microalga Nannochloropsis oculata do 1° ao 20° dia após a eclosão. Náuplios de Artemia foram oferecidos a partir do 15 ° dia em conjunto com rotíferos e, exclusivamente, a partir do 20° dia. O assentamento ocorreu a partir do 28° dia, quando as larvas do “neon goby” atingiram comprimento de 8,50 ± 0,18 mm com sobrevivência entre 2 e 20%.
The “neon goby” Elacatinus figaro is endemic of the Brazilian coast and was one of the most important species in the marine ornamental fish trade in the country. Today it is on the list of endangered species and it can no longer be collected in the wild. This work was carried out in order to describe natural breeding, embryonic development and larviculture of neon goby in laboratory. The first natural spawning was observed 24 days after the pairs were formed 8 to 10 days at 26°C. Mean fecundity was 648 ± 183 (± SD) eggs per clutch and ranged from 430 to 1020 eggs, the hatching rate was 69 ± 16%. Eggs are elliptical in shape, they present adhesive filaments at the proximal end and five protuberances at the distal end. Egg length averaged 1.81 ± 0.1 mm and maximum width was 0.61 ± 0.03 mm. The embryonic developmental period lasts between 7 and 8 days. The newly hatched larvae measure 3.15 ± 0.07 mm, showing positive phototaxis, pigmented eyes, mouth opened and insufflated gas bladder. Larvae were fed with rotifers Brachionus plicatilis in green water system along with the microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata from day 1 to day 20 day after hatching. Artemia nauplii were added to the diet on day 15, and 5 days later rotifers were no longer offered. Larvae began to settle to the bottom on day 28, when length of neon goby was 8.50 ± 0.18 mm, the final survival rate ranged between 2 and 20%.

L'objet de ce travail est de caractériser le discours du Figaro concernant l'éducation tant au niveau de son argumentation que de son système idéologique. Le commentaire de texte et l'analyse lexicométrique mettent en valeur l'organisation des arguments employés en rapport au cadre politique et communicationnel. La première partie présente une synthèse de l'héritage historique du Figaro déterminant sa ligne de pensée politique. La seconde partie est relative à la constitution du corpus et à une vue générale de l'éducation dans 1582 articles. Dans la troisième partie, l'exploitation d'un corpus réduit à 224 articles révèle que l'éducation donne lieu à différentes positions (une critique récurrente de l'enseignement, des positions évolutives, des contradictions). Ainsi émergent des référents traditionalistes et libéraux qualifiant un discours qui porte la marque de la droite orléaniste. L'éducation génère donc une nouvelle ligne de partage entre les droites et les gauches en France
The aim of the study is to characterise Le Figaro's discourse dealing with education at the argumentation level and its ideological system. The commentary on a text, together with the lexical and metric analysis both highlight the arguments' organisation connected with the political and communicational context. In the first part, we summarise the major points of Le Figaro's historical background, which determine its political line of thought. In the second part, we examine the corpus composition and the educational viewpoint within 1582 articles signed. In the third part, the examination of a corpus reduced to 224 articles reveals that education is interpreted in various ways. Those different points of view introduced by Le Figaro underline traditionalist and liberal referents whose discourse is marked by the Orleanist-centred Right. Education establishes a new dividing line among the French Right and Left movements

Enfin, a partir de ces modifications, il cree les emplois parfaitement originaux. Ainsi se degage l'originalite de la langue des titres, car il semble bien qu'on puisse parler d'une langue des titres, et c'est du moins ce que cette etude devrait permettre de montrer.

De juin 1940 à novembre 1942, "Le Temps" et "Le Figaro", organes emblématiques de la presse libérale, s'installent en zone libre refusant de paraître sous le contrôle de l'occupant allemand. Profondément choqués par les effets de la crise des années trente, ils adhèrent à la mise en place du régime du maréchal Pétain consécutif à la chute de la Troisième République. Ils n'en dénoncent pas moins les formes d'un nouveau désordre qui ruine tout espoir de voir la France retrouver l'ordre auquel ils aspirent depuis la rupture du consensus républicain au début des années vingt. Le désordre est, au premier chef, lié à la Collaboration dont les deux feuilles repliées redoutent qu'elle ne scelle la fin de l'indépendance nationale et n'amène les fascistes de Paris au pouvoir. En matière de politique intérieure, le désordre se traduit par le caractère inachevé de la réforme « indispensable» à la construction de la France nouvelle; il se décline encore au regard de la culture respective du "Temps" et du "Figaro". Les éditorialistes du "Temps" se désespèrent de voir le nouveau pouvoir verser dans l'autoritarisme et l'étatisme. L'écrivain-journaliste du "Figaro" refuse d'associer l'ordre au moralisme et au dirigisme ajoutés au déshonneur que traduit à ses yeux l'inféodation de la France à son vainqueur ruinant toute velléité de relèvement. Dès sa prise de pouvoir en janvier 1933, le régime national-socialiste et son chef, Adolf Hitler, engagent l'Allemagne dans une révolution culturelle, laquelle implique un changement drastique de valeurs nationales idéales et un contrôle strict de la culture. Cette dernière est désormais utilisée comme un outil pour faire la propagande du régime nazi et promouvoir ses idéaux. Tiraillée par les factions de droite et de gauche, la France des années trente est divisée dans ses perceptions du nouveau modèle culturel que développe l'Allemagne hitlérienne. En fonction des évènements qui se passent de part et d'autre du Rhin entre 1933, prise de pouvoir d'Hitler et 1939, début de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, les opinions à l'égard de la révolution culturelle nazie et de la dictature aux velléités totalitaires qui la conduit évoluent. Ce mémoire vise donc à analyser comment se manifeste la perception de la presse française, reflet et forgeuse de l'opinion publique, à l'égard de la révolution culturelle nazie. Pour ce faire, nous analysons les perceptions de deux importants quotidiens dans le paysage médiatique français, dont les positions éditoriales sont antagonistes : le Figaro , journal de droite conservatrice, et L'Humanité , journal communiste. En analysant les positions de ces deux quotidiens par rapport à certains thèmes majeurs se trouvant au coeur de la révolution culturelle nazie (comme le racisme, la censure, la"communauté du peuple"), nous allons non seulement cerner l'évolution respective de chaque journal sur l'ensemble de la période étudiée, 1933 à 1939, mais aussi les comparer entre eux. Nous exposerons et analyserons ainsi le clivage idéologique qui divise la France des années 1930 et qui s'exprime avec vigueur devant la nouvelle Allemagne hitlérienne.

This thesis deals with the polyphonic and argumentative functions of the French negation marker, ne, in editorial texts from the daily press. The concept ‘polyphony’ relates to the presence of multiple voices within one and the same utterance. According to this view, negation triggers a subdivision of an utterance in two points of view. Thus the sentence Sweden will not be a part of the monetary union can be divided in two points of view, the underlying ‘Sweden will be a part of the monetary union’, and the explicit ‘Sweden will not be a part of the monetary union’.

First, I study the polyphonic structure of negative utterances, notably their division in two points of view, by taking into account their specific linguistic features. This is done so as to identify the relevant linguistic criteria that determine the polyphonic interpretation of the negation. The study demonstrates that contextual elements, including pragmatic connectors, presuppositions contrastive elements, and several other devices constitute the primary source of polyphonic markers.

Negation is furthermore approached from a textual perspective. I explore how the two opposite points of view that are associated with negation form polyphonic sequences with other points of view carrying the same semantic content, and how these dynamic points of view are associated to the different discourse beings that are found in the newspaper article. I found that these sequences often embrace the central polemic theme of the article and, also, that the polyphonic function is not restricted to the negative utterance but constitutes an element that ensures textual and argumentative coherence. These two analyses are carried out within Jean-Claude Anscombre’s and Oswald Ducrot’s Theory of Structural Argumentation, which has recently been formalised by Kjersti Fløttum, Coco Norén and Henning Nølke.

Finally in this thesis, I analyse the relation between the discourse beings associated with the negative utterance and real beings that exist outside the text, and then consider what rhetorical implications that correspondence or no correspondence has on the polyphonic interpretation of the negation. I also examine whether polyphonic negation can be considered to be a feature of newspaper editorials that identifies these texts as a genre. This study shows that the locuteur, the discourse being responsible for the enunciation of the negative utterance on a textual level, links to the real being, the editorial writer, who then refutes points of view associated to other discourse beings, often by use of nominalizations that refer to community voices. The locuteur also intrudes into an argument or claim, and refutes it in the name of a community or an authority.

By defining genre, as does the media researcher Patrick Charaudeau, as a correspondence between the constraints imposed by the discursive situation and the constraints imposed by the discursive features, and by considering that one of the editorial’s constraints is to persuade its readers, this study shows that the phrasal negation ne in its polyphonic function, constitutes a distinguishing feature in the genre of editorials. The refutations that are made by an editor constitute a distinctive argumentative strategy since it permits the editorial writer to present external points of view in order to refute them and thereby impose his or her own, subjective point of view.

Um dos principais gargalos no cultivo de peixes marinhos, incluindo os ornamentais, incide na oferta de um alimento apropriado às larvas no início de sua alimentação exógena. O presente estudo trabalhou com larvas de neon gobi Elacatinus figaro, espécie endêmica da costa brasileira, ameaçada de extinção, com o objetivo de identificar fontes de alimento vivo apropriado para a primeira alimentação das larvas desta espécie. Em um primeiro experimento foi analisada a influência no crescimento e na sobrevivência das larvas com a utilização de rotíferos de diferentes tamanhos. Em outro estudo, avaliou-se a utilização de náuplios de copépodes selvagens e de protozoários ciliados marinhos (Euplotes sp.) combinados com rotíferos na primeira alimentação das larvas nos mesmos parâmetros anteriores. Além dos trabalhos com as larvas, um terceiro experimento foi realizado para desenvolver um protocolo de monocultivo do protozoário ciliado Euplotes sp., utilizado como alimento para as larvas de E. figaro. Entre os principais resultados destaca-se que a seleção de rotíferos com tamanho de lórica entre 102 e 146 µm, promove um aumento de até 10,6% na sobrevivência, analisada no dia 8 após eclosão, em relação a utilização de rotíferos com tamanho de lórica médio de 177 µm. O emprego de náuplios de copépodes junto com rotíferos melhora o crescimento das larvas em 24,3% até o dia 10 após a eclosão e 47,5% até o dia 20 após a eclosão, em comparação com a utilização de rotíferos somente. Para o monocultivo de Euplotes sp. pode ser utilizado o produto comercial Culture Selco (INVE), usado para cultura de rotíferos. Já a microalga Nannochloropsis oculata viva não é recomendada para estes organismos.

Abstract:
Le travail que nous avons effectué, et que nous présentons dans le cadre de ce rapport de thèse, a consisté à concevoir et à implémenter un atelier pour réaliser des études de sûreté de fonctionnement, de la phase de modélisation de systèmes industriels à la phase de quantification. Apres une étude de l'existant, nous avons défini une architecture générale pour cet atelier (baptise figaro) dédié aux études de fiabilité, utilisant diverses techniques de l'intelligence artificielle telles que représentation des connaissances, simulation de fonctionnement, chaînage arrière,. . . Dans une première phase, on représente les connaissances génériques au domaine technologique traité à l'aide d'un langage oriente objet que nous avons défini, et qui est adapté aux études de fiabilité. Une interface graphique permet alors de saisir des schémas de systèmes à étudier, et un moteur de simulation rend possible l'observation du fonctionnement du système. La phase suivante consiste à générer automatiquement des modèles de fiabilité, comme les arbres de défaillance, et à les transmettre à des logiciels de calculs probabilistes. Nous avons validé les résultats de nos travaux par la mise en oeuvre de l'atelier pour des études en taille réelle. Cette validation se poursuit actuellement, dans l'objectif de valider les connaissances modélisées. A terme, l'objectif est maintenant de définir une architecture plus étendue comprenant une méthode d'acquisition et de modélisation des connaissances relatives aux systèmes physiques, et nous proposons une première approche de ce que pourrait être une telle méthode

Né au cœur des fêtes princières, l'opéra a toujours paye un lourd tribut a la fête. De la fête contextuelle des origines a la distanciation par la représentation théâtrale en passant par la rupture très nette qui s’effectue pendant la révolution, l'opéra renvoie l'image d'une société qui se met en fête : dans l'architecture des théâtres, dans le rituel de la représentation ou même les fêtes qu'il donne à voir au sein des oeuvres. Il est alors possible d'envisager une anthropologie fondée sur l'étude des oeuvres lyriques prises, au-delà de leur vertu de témoignage de modes musicales et théâtrales, pour ce qu'elles offrent de mise an place d'archétypes du comportement humain. Sublimes sur scène pour tendre vers le divertissement ou accentues dans leur portée tragique pour exprimer un profond malaise, ces archétypes font l'objet d'une étude systématique posant les jalons d'une esthétique de la fête dans le théâtre lyrique depuis 1786
Born in the heart of princely festivities, the opera wouldn't have existed without a festival context. From the feast of the original operas to the distance created by the theatrical representation, with an obvious break during the revolution, the opera is the mirror relfecting a rejoicing society : in the architecture of the theatres, in the ritual of the representation or even in the feasts taking place in the works. It is thus possible to determine an anthropology based upon the study of lyrical works taken for their descriptive interest of archetypal human behaviour, beyond their qualities of testimony of musical and theatrical fashions. Sublimated archetypes on stage that lead to intertainment or on the opposite bearing an amplified tragical impact to express an utter state of distress, all these features are the elements of a systematic study made to identify an aestetic of the feast in the lyrical theatre

Abstract:
This thesis is an examination of the printed media in France (1955-1963), as represented by two mainstream newspapers: Le Monde (left-centrist) and Le Figaro (right-centrist). Using these newspapers, as well as Gallup polls recorded at the time, this study explores correlations of what was reported in newspapers and how French public opinion evolved during the course of the war. These two major sources of information are shown to have given contradictory information, thus accounting for some of the paradoxes found in public opinion polls. Specifically, the paradoxes analyzed in the study concern the Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) and the Pieds-Noirs (the European population of North Africa).

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to explore how the topic of immigration was framed by the two French newspapers Le Monde and Le Figaro in their political online sections during the two weeks following the terror attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015. Applying frame analyses on textual articles published during this time, this paper can conclude that five frames manifested themselves. Furthermore, a high degree of political parallelism, characterized by what Robert Entman refers to as content biased news coverage, was detected that greatly distinguished the two newspapers coverage of immigration. Le Monde, commonly erred to as a left-centrist paper, never openly criticized the ruling leftist government during the time frame studied. Contrastingly, Le Figaro, commonly referred to as a right-centrist paper, was overtly sceptic towards the socialist party, and framed multiple articles arguing that the right-wing populist party Front National was unjustly treated by the left as well as arguing for the legitimacy of the right-center party UMP. Based on the theoretical approach of framing, this thesis concludes that the media culture of both Le Monde and Le Figaro display characteristics greatly influenced by their political orientations. This paper also concludes that the two newspapers’ framing of the immigration topic was directly and consequently related to actions by the controversial right-wing populist party Front National. This implies a salience of ideological orientation of the newspapers in their framing of the news framing.Whether and how this framing of the news related to the terror attacks affected the opinions of their readers would be an interesting focus for future research.

Abstract:
In my thesis I have decided to focus on the two most famous operas buffa by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. First, it is the opera Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) and later the opera Cosí fan tutte (Thus Do They All). In my text I mainly concentrate on the interpretation approach to the title characters of Susanna and Despina, compared in the three outstanding opera singers and concerning my personal experience with these roles. To depict overall Mozart´s profile as an opera wizard I include his complete opera work in the first chapter. To by analysed in detail I have selected my favourite scene of Susanna, Act 4, Giunse al fin momento (Finally, there comes the moment) and Deh, vieni, non tartar, o gioia bella (Oh, come, don´t delay, joy beautiful). In case of Despina I have chosen the aria from the beginning of Act 2, Una donna a quindici anni (A Fifteen year old woman). I have divided my thesis into five chapters. I titled the first chapter Wolfganga Amadea Mozarta´s Opera Work, the second chapter is called Le nozze di Figaro, the third is Susanna, the fourth bears the name Cosí fan tutte and the fifth is Despina.

L'analyse de l'impact politique des médias s'est traditionnellement concentrée sur les pages d'information. En prenant pour objet la critique cinématographique diffusée dans la presse quotidienne, il s'agit de montrer que les médias culturels recèlent une influence potentielle et présentent une gamme d'effets inexistants dans les autres supports. Le message critique, de par sa capacité à associer représentations esthétiques ET représentations sociales, propose un mélange "à part", qui va donner au récepteur des clefs pour construire socialement et psychologiquement la réalité qui l'entoure. Le pari de ce travail est d'analyser la particularité de ce mélange et d'en interroger les conséquences en terme d'influence. D'où vient l'homologie entre représentations esthétiques et politiques ? Comment fonctionne-t-elle ? Pourquoi les discours critiques véhiculent ce type d'images? Les lecteurs se reconnaissent-ils dans ces représentations? De quelle manière les influencent-elles?
