One of the key aspects of the fight against corruption and economic crime is to counter the seizure of business entities (raids) – as a set of criminal acts. There is no single norm in Ukrainian criminal law that provides for penalties for illegal seizure of enterprises, institutions, organizations in order to appropriate them or establishes control over their assets, and therefore existing methods of detecting and investigating raids need to be significantly improved. Also a top priority for researchers and practitioners in the field of law enforcement remain issues of updating scientific dev

Abstract In the later decades of the fifteenth century, adherents of the Safavid order started raiding the regions of the northern Caucasus and eastern Anatolia. As most of these raids involved Christian principalities, they have earned the Safavid shaikhs Joneyd and Haydar the reputation as ghāzis, as fighters for faith against the infidels. This paper explores how scribes from the sixteenth-century Safavid courtly sphere integrated the order’s early military activities into their narratives of the Safavid past. Further, it examines what sound information may be derived from the narratives on

During the First War of Scottish Independence (1296–1328), the Scottish forces faced considerable opposition from their enemies, often seen as superior. In general, the Scottish soldiers were somewhat badly equipped, their leaders were often bickering among themselves and they were using subpar siege equipment. Scottish forces, as all other armies of Medieval Europe, had three distinct “arms” – cavalry, infantry and archers (who weren’t necessary armed with a longbow). Their cavalry, the elite of the army, consisted of forces drawn from the noble populace of the country, as well as from some l

It is assumed that the main causes of the capital investment deficit are excessive inflation, excessive business risks and non-fulfillment of government obligations. Despite Ferguson’s significant contributions as a colonial civil servant, cartographer, surveyor, and other roles, his potential involvement in anti-slavery efforts has been largely ignored in academic literature. Meanwhile, there is a local perception of him as an abolitionist in modern Ghana. This paper aims to reassess Ferguson’s legacy and specifically examine his reported anti-slavery activities. Abstract As the end of the sixteenth century approached, the English aristocracy had become demilitarized for lack of opportunity-not for want of inclination; the Irish and Scottish aristocracies retained their medieval martial traditions, but engaged in feuding and cattle raiding, where the principal motive was personal revenge rather than the more rational military and political objectives of a modern state. Queen Elizabeth’s decision to intervene in the Netherlands to keep the Spanish menace at bay engaged the aristocracies of the British Isles once again in the cockpit of mainland European
