Abstract:
This study is an exploratory research. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of domestic violence on married women in our society. Domestic violence is increasing day by day in Pakistani society. No day passes without the mass media reporting serious violence offences within families and households. This research was conducted to know that what are the causes and environments which create domestic violence among married women with special reference to North Nazimabad (Arafat town). It is a fact that majority of the women could hardly read or write a sentence due to this situation they cannot protect themselves from domestic violence and cannot fight for their rights legally. Majority of women living in joint family system are also facing domestic violence, so the reasons behind this can be poverty, depressing environment, societal pressures, imbalance of power between men and women, male dominancy and female ignorance about their rights in which the child is brought up. . The Abusive and violent patterns leave a lasting impression on the child behavior. In Pakistan majority of women consider the behaviors and actions of men in societies as inherited normal actions which really make them more vulnerable to any type of abuse in their home.

Abstract:
This article explores a controversy that struck the French family association in the Moroccan town of Oujda in 1948. In 1941, the French administration introduced a wide array of family benefits designed to support French families and encourage French population growth in the protectorate. Initial attempts at maintaining the racially-exclusive character of this policy did not last long. Due to legal reforms introduced in France, Algerians who migrated to Morocco could claim these family benefits and hold leadership positions in family associations due to their status as French citizens. This situation became particularly contentious in the border town of Oujda where, it was alleged, a local communist managed to take over the local family association by recruiting Algerians from across the border with promises of family benefits and securing their support in return. When French officials disbanded the organization, the disgraced president contested this decision, turned the scandal into a fight for Algerian rights and denunciation of French imperialism, and then disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The scandal involving the AFF in Oujda is revealing of ongoing concerns about shifting demographics, clandestine movement across the Algerian border, demands for rights, and concerns about communism in the years prior to decolonization.

Abstract:
The essay “A Few Words on Non-intervention” by British philosopher and politician John Stuart Mill, published in Fraser’s Magazine for Town and Country in December, 1859, has been translated into Russian for the first time for this issue of the Russian Sociological Review. Here, Mill justifies the foreign policy of the British Empire, and considers the criteria when the doctrine of non-intervention may be ignored in the sphere of international relations. There are three cases that make legitimate military intervention possible: (1) the overcoming of the doctrine of non-intervention when it is necessary to confront humanitarian disasters such as slavery; (2) an intervention allowing people to be given their freedom and to protect their right of self-determination; (3) an intervention as a tool to fight against tyranny.

Abstract:
Green is the talk of the town. Every other day new strategies and technologies are being invented to fight the deadliest consequences of environmental degradation. The pace at which our Planet is being exploited and environmental problems are increasing, Green Marketing and Green Products have become a necessity. But this ‘green concept’ will only be successful when the awareness level will be high and perception is positive. In this paper perception of consumers about green products in Delhi is being studied. Is the overall perception negative, positive or neutral? Do they appreciate the packaging of green products? Or is there any correlation between perception and various demographic variables of consumers? All these questions are answered in this paper with detailed analysis. Structured and undisguised form of questionnaire was prepared which was distributed to 120 respondents out of which 106 were found to be usable. Any sample above 30 is considered large. Statistical tools like mode, median, frequency distribution, Kruskal-Wallis and One way ANOVA are used to test the hypotheses. This paper will be beneficial to other researchers to get the insight of consumers’ perception about green products, to companies in making the right strategies and policies according to consumer perception and to other organization and institutes who are interested in studying the consumer behaviour regarding Green Products.

Abstract:
In the article it has been analyzed the specifics of the functioning of self-government bodies of the cities of Galicia in the second half of XIX century. It is proved that the law of 1889 facilitated the formation of elected bodies of self-government. It was indicated that the law of 1889 significantly expanded the rights of urban self-government. Compared to the previous laws (1862 s 1866), which concerned the big cities of Lviv and Krakow, the new law already includes 30 towns. Particular attention has been focused on functional responsibilities of public council and magistrate. They had the regulatory with supervisory and administrative executive functions respectively. A constant value membership of public council was set at 36, regardless of the number of residents. The head of both organization was burgomaster. His credentials included: organize the work of the council, sign documents, disciplinary control and representation of the city before the higher authorities. In return, the regional authorities have supervised that the bodies of self-government have not exceeded powers and has not violated the law. The innovation in 1889 caused by political motives and the need to increase the efficiency of self-governing bodies, elimination of shortcomings in their work. Among them: the fight against the absenteeism and the indifference of elected people, the creation of a managerial hierarchy between the Council and the magistrate, the creation of special control commissions, the audit of municipal finances, and the improvement of clerical management. The changes made it possible to extend the impact of cities on Galicia's socio-economic life.

Abstract:
Critical engagement with existing scholarship reveals that many postcolonial African states have set up legal frameworks which institutionalise heterosexuality and condemn counter-sexualities. Clearly discernible from this body of literature is the fact that non-complying citizens constantly negotiate ‘the right to be’ in very political and gendered ways. Ironically, narratives of how these non-complying citizens experience such homophobic contexts hardly find their way into academic discourses, irrespective of the identity battles they fight on a daily basis. To fill this scholarly gap, I first insert the question of diaspora into the argument made extensively in literature that gender, sexuality and homophobia are intrinsic to defining national identity in postcolonial African states. Subsequently, I capture the experiences of queer Africans that emerged out of fieldwork conducted in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, between 2011 and 2014. The focus is on the narratives of sexual minorities who migrated permanently to South Africa to flee draconian legislation and diverse forms of sexual persecution in Zimbabwe, Uganda and Nigeria. Juxtaposed with the experiences of South African sexual minorities, deep reflections of how queer foreign nationals have experienced their bodies beyond the borders of their respective homelands tell a particularly interesting story about the meaning of the postcolonial state, read through the intersections of gender, sexuality and diaspora discourses. Local and foreign sexual minorities’ experiences are replete with contradictions, which make for rich and ambivalent analyses of what the reality of being a sexual minority in (South) Africa means. Contrary to queer Africans who construct living in South Africa as an institutionalisation of ‘liberty’, sexual minorities of South African origin frame the country’s democracy as an intricate and confusing space. Although analysed in this article, this conundrum paves the way for further engagement with the interplay between sexuality, homophobia and migration/diaspora discourses, which are often invisible to queer research on the continent.

Abstract:
The liberal world order has produced immense benefits for Europe and people across the planet. Beginning in the 18th and 19th centuries, liberalism reinforces the natural rights of man to life, liberty and property, and has transformed the world in ways that have improved the material and social circumstances of humankind. But the liberal order that has been in place in Europe since 1945, after two world wars, is showing signs of deterioration. Today, this liberal order is being challenged by a variety of forces. The essence of the European experience is the development of a civilization that considered itself to be a unity and yet was politically decentralized. Former free towns in Italy and the Low Countries became bastions of a self‑governing middle class in the Middle Ages. However, with time, states tend to overgrow taking more and more resources, which results in the increase in taxes and public spending, excessive regulation, deficits and public debt. There is a fight between the advocates of two different ideals of the European Union, the non‑liberal and the liberal vision. There is a consensus in that the market economy is the system that best produces the most, removing millions of people from poverty. But it is the unequal distribution of the wealth created that is often criticized. We examine the distribution of income, before and after taxes and transfers, concluding that market liberalization does not necessarily lead to increased social inequality. On the other hand, two of the most important threats challenging the liberal order in Europe are populist parties and protectionism. Finally, this paper suggests a way towards a future Europe, deepening the single market and economic integration, but transforming the obsolete and dysfunctional nation‑states into other forms of decentralized political units.

Abstract:
Internet piracy has recently been addressed by several policies introduced in US, such as SOPA and ACTA. These policies suggest the general opinion to be that piracy reduce profits. The focus of this thesis is therefore put on the introduction of theoretical concept capable of describing possible piracy impacts and then showing empirical observations to prove it. We developed our own modified time-dependent model of demand function with network effect, which suggests that piracy can have indeed different results on producers' profits depending on the conditions. Further, we showed on real data that the resulting piracy effect in film industry is indefinite and piracy in other industries results in various outcomes.

Busher, Joel. "The social dynamics of the fight against HIV/AIDS in a Namibian town." Thesis, University of East Anglia, 2009. https://ueaeprints.uea.ac.uk/10569/.

Full text
Abstract:
HIV/AIDS programmes have been running in the informal settlements around Rundu, a town in Northeast Namibia, for more than a decade. Yet in spite of concerted efforts by government agencies and civil society organisations to promote broad and deep participation in these programmes, residents still express little sense of ownership of them. Drawing on fourteen months of ethnographic fieldwork, this thesis describes how different groups of actors within the locale have experienced and interpreted the fight against HIV/AIDS, and in doing so explores the micro-social processes that have hindered the expansion of a sense of ownership of HIV/AIDS programmes beyond a relatively small cadre of actors: programme managers, AIDS activists and prominent volunteers. This thesis presents a thick description of the fight against HIV/AIDS as a tangle of practices, assumptions, affective structures and a system of commonsense reasoning that cohere around a network of loosely affiliated organisations situated within but at the same time often distinguished by respondents from the wider social milieu of Rundu. Drawing on Kleinman’s (1992) concept of local moral worlds, these intersubjectively constructed contexts of shared experience are referred to as the local moral world of the fight against HIV/AIDS in Rundu. The account of the local moral world of the fight against HIV/AIDS presented in this thesis enables the identification of socially embedded structures of conditionality that shape local understandings of where ownership of HIV/AIDS programmes lies. Three main issues are explored: local accounts of differentiated cultural orientation in relation to the local moral world of the fight against HIV/AIDS; the social construction of “legitimate” knowledge and the distribution of symbolic power in relation to HIV/AIDS programmes; and the challenge of building deep trust between actors at the centre and periphery of HIV/AIDS programmes who operate within what are often quite different local moral worlds.

Abstract:
The aim of this master thesis is to discus the argument that in the favor of legalizing torture in the case of terror suspects and detainees. My research question here is: if we will put torture against terror suspects in a legal framework will that help us to fight terrorism or it will creates more instability in the world and result in more terror acts ? I will view the history of torture and the development towards torture prevention. I used the moral theory and also the writings of Dr.Norman Finkelstein to argue against legalizing torture. I will use the Abu Ghraib prison case in Iraq as a study case. The thesis will be in three chapters. In the conclusions I will demonstrate and prove that the use of torture under any circumstances is against morality and against international human rights law. The use of torture as a tool to fight terrorism is not the solution but it will lead to more chaos and hate in the world, innocent torture victims can be easily used after their release by terror and radical groups, authorizing a law that allows torture will make normal citizens afraid all the time because any person can accused of being a terrorist until the government proves he is not.

Full text
Abstract:
Includes abstract.
Includes bibliographical references.
A patriarchal reading of the Qur'ānic verse 4:34 implies the subordination of wives to their husband within their families. The fundamental duty of the husband to support his wife materially has led to the entrenched notion of male protection of women. In exchange for such protection, the wife has the reciprocal duty of obedience to her husband, which may lead to the restriction of her right to work, amongst other rights. In contemporary societies where women are increasingly participating in the maintenance of the family, different interpretations of the verse are now becoming more influential than the patriarchal view. Allowing women access to equal opportunities on the labour market and to receive equal remuneration will not only contribute to the overall improvement of society but could also lead to the effective implementation of gender equality as required by international legal standards and religious doctrines.

Abstract:
Any attempt to tell the story of federal involvement in the dismantling of America's formalized systems of racial discrimination that positions the judiciary as the first branch of government to engage in this effort, identifies the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision as the beginning of the civil rights movement, or fails to recognize the centrality of President Harry S. Truman in the narrative of racial equality is in error. Driven by an ever-increasing recognition of the injustices of racial discrimination, Truman offered a comprehensive civil rights program to Congress on 2 February 1948. When his legislative proposals were rejected, he employed a unilateral policy of action despite grave political risk, and freed subsequent presidential nominees of the Democratic party from its southern segregationist bloc by winning re-election despite the States' Rights challenge of Strom Thurmond. The remainder of his administration witnessed a multi-faceted attack on prejudice involving vetoes, executive orders, public pronouncements, changes in enforcement policies, and amicus briefs submitted by his Department of Justice. The southern Democrat responsible for actualizing the promises of America's ideals of freedom for its black citizens is Harry Truman, not Lyndon Johnson. The shift in white American opinion necessary for the passage of the civil rights acts of the 1960s was generated by the cumulative effects of actions taken between 1945 and 1953.
Master of Arts

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine schoolchildren’s knowledge about malaria in Babati, Tanzania. It will also examine the impact of the disease on children’s education and if schoolchildren in Babati have the possibility to act as health change agents and be a part of combating the high malaria prevalence. The thesis is based on a qualitative method with secondary information retrieved from scientific articles and previous studies. It is also based on empirical data collected during a field study in Babati, Tanzania in 2012. Both structured and semi structured interviews were made with schoolchildren, teachers and health care personnel. The studies showed that malaria affects children’s education primarily through absence, but can also cause cognitive impairment as well as neurological damage. The interviews revealed the students to have varying knowledge about the disease and it also revealed that children only have the ability to act as health change agents if teachers with help of the government, the hospital or an NGO are willing to cooperate and provide the students with information.

Abstract:
Educational institutions consist of spaces for interaction and sociability, therefore, these spaces are composed of a multiplicity of people, each with their individualities, being, therefore, a locus of coexistence with diversity and of creating access opportunities for the equalization of opportunities. From this perspective, research on Human Rights Education means directing citizens in the fight for their rights and for a fairer society, as a form of full realization of citizenship. This research, at first, discusses the various forms of violence that occur in youth, especially those that occur in the school space, highlighting the causes and consequences of physical, psychological, symbolic violence and one of the most worrying in the world scenario: the " bullying". The general objective is to verify the existence and manifestations of violence in the school environment among students, teachers, managers and employees to understand the relationship that young people have with their peers, identifying the forms of violence called "bullying" that occur in the environment in an attempt to reflect on how such practices can be fought through Human Rights Education. Therefore, the methodology used will be qualiquantitative and will consist of a literature review, which will aim to situate human rights and bullying as objects in the field of socio-legal studies. Documentary analysis of laws dealing with human rights and education will be carried out, as well as field research, through which the questionnaire will be used as a data collection instrument to understand the perception of high school students about bullying and the disrespect for differences. The work will also involve quantitative analysis in the analysis of data to verify the incidence of bullying, its modalities and how Human Rights Education can contribute to respecting and valuing differences. With the completion of this research, it is expected to provide educators and students of educational institutions, an analysis of the importance of forming a culture of respect for human dignity, diversity, multiplying information and experiences that contribute to participatory awareness, rethinking the citizen reality of the population involved and reinforcing the socio-political-cultural identity of social segments and groups, based on the school reality and on Human Rights Education

Abstract:
The socio-economic impact of the pandemic on all social spheres is huge, but like any crisis, for some it is an opportunity to create, develop and promote solutions. The coronavirus pandemic has brought many changes. It has forced us all to find new ways of working, interacting and living. The field of intellectual property is particularly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, its strong influence has affected all branches of intellectual property, especially the field of copyright and patents. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, numerous anomalies in the consumption of copyrights were observed, which coincided with the isolation measures, from drastically increased consumption of illegal pirated content via the Internet, especially in countries with lockdown, through a sharp increase of Disney+ and Netflix streaming platform users. The identification of products that have the word Corona in their name – in their trademark, with the virus has led to a sharp drop in consumption of some products, but also to increased sales of others. The pharmaceutical industry has invested huge funds in the fight against this global challenge, especially in the field of treatment of viruses, new drugs for the prevention, as well as finding a vaccine against COVID-19. This paper discusses the challenges faced by the management of intellectual property rights and potential response measures.

Abstract:
The paper is dedicated to the development of advocacy in France throughout history, and special attention is paid to the struggle of lawyers to repair the damage caused to their position by the Bourgeois Revolution. The goals of the legal struggle were fully achieved in the period of the Third Republic, rightly called the "Republic of Lawyers", when they took over the legislative and executive power. French lawyers, especially in the 19th century, were often real political dissidents. With their work as a politival opposition, they redefined the relationship between the state and society and set a clear border of state power, all of which enabled the easier emergence of a liberal constitutional monarchy, and then a republic. Due to the constant opposition activities in the courtroom, the lawyers demonstrated in the best possible way how closely law and politics stand in each state. In the introductory chapter of the paper, the author gives an overview of the historical development of advocacy from the Frankish period to the Revolution itself. During the Old Regime, lawyers enjoyed the status of "secular clergy" and, although members of the Third Class, were an unavoidable political factor in absolutist France. The second chapter contains an analysis of the devastating impact of the Revolution on the legal profession and timid attempts to improve the position of the legal profession with the advent of the Restoration. The third chapter provides an overview of the period from 1830 to 1870, which was characterized by the increasingly serious interference of lawyers in politics in order to fight for the advancement of the profession. The chapter on the Third Republic talks about the successful outcome of the lawyer's fight for their own rights, and the final chapter talks about the tendencies in the French legal profession in the 20th century.

Abstract:
The 21st century represents a century in which the world has flourished through technological progress, transforming many businesses in line with digitalization, social networks, and the tendencies brought by the internet generations. In sociological terms, many problems have remained the same despite progress. In this sense, women continue to fight for one of the fundamental human rights - gender equality and non - discrimination against male - female in the social, business and political environment. However, there are many positive examples of women leaders today, presidents of governments and large companies, successful women entrepreneurs, and they dominate in certain branches of the economy. Although care, pharmacy, education, and the like have so far been considered "typically female" professions, the business of intermediation in the sale and lease of real estate is attracting more and more attention of female gender. Whether women dominate such a significant branch of the economy, and why, the author will try to answer by looking at the results and statistics of one of the most developed real estate markets in the world - the real estate market in the United States. Whether women are naturally gifted in the field of mediation in buying or selling real estate or have managed to dominate the market with their professionalism and motivation, are questions that occupy the scientific public, but it is gratifying to see examples of so many successful women in the real estate with amazing careers and results. It can be concluded that it would be commendable if this trend spread over to other branches of the economy, as well as to other countries in the world.

Abstract:
The coronavirus pandemic has swept across a world unprepared to fight it, because countries had failed to choose policies to fight inequality. Only one in six countries assessed for the CRI Index 2020 were spending enough on health, only a third of the global workforce had adequate social protection, and in more than 100 countries at least one in three workers had no labour protection such as sick pay. As a result, many have faced death and destitution, and inequality is increasing dramatically. This third edition of the CRI Index report recommends that all governments adopt strong anti-inequality policies on public services, tax and labour rights, to radically reduce the gap between rich and poor. The international community must support them with Special Drawing Rights, debt relief and global solidarity taxes. See also the CRI Index website at www.inequalityindex.org
