Abstract:
The Military Scenario Definition Language (MSDL) is an approved SISO standard for describing components of military scenarios that can be shared across a variety of modeling and simulation systems. However, the “last mile problem” for MSDL development is to have a user interface that represents information flowing to/from C2 and simulation systems. We have developed an open-source Toolset for this purpose: MSDL Scenario Editing Toolset (MSDLSET), providing an easy-to-use graphical user interface to MSDL developers that can serve as a surrogate input/output GUI or alternately to generating MSDL file. MSDLSET is developed using other open-source Tools: Xcentric's JaxFront and BBN's OpenMap. MSDLSET provides easy and efficient means for the end user to edit validate and add MSDL components to the MSDL file. Numerous initiatives are in progress to employ the new Toolset and to realize the benefits of exchanging scenarios files across diverse systems.

Abstract:
At present, the formation of authoritative files system is an obligatory condition for organizing and managing electronic catalogues of large scientific libraries. SPSTL SB RAS is managing its own authoritative file of subject headings, the work on which began in 2008, and is actual until today. The paper describes the results of creating and managing an authoritative file of subject headings of SPSTL SB RAS in the period of 2011 – 2020: the history of the file creation is mentioned; the importance of linguistic support of the electronic catalogue for conducting information search is marked; the necessity for analyzing the current state of affairs and evaluating the authoritative file quality is pointed out.The analysis is based on the results of implementing the statement of work for creating the authoritative file; the program of step-by-step works is reproduced and the results of accomplishing each stage, the complexity of the tasks are evaluated. The article indicates the need to edit subject headings in accordance with the requirements of the method of objectification; to pair information search languages: library and bibliographic indices of classification and subject headings. It also indicates the problem of filling the authoritative file with new subject headings, reveals the necessity of checking the vocabulary by alphabetical index. The conclusion forms the notion about the current state of the authoritative file, the terms of work on implementing the statement of work. The main problem of completing the creation of an authoritative file of subject headings of SPSTL SB RAS is indicated; ways to solve this problem are suggested.

Abstract:
Penguin is a Macintosh computer application that facilitates the use of CALIB 3.03, the 14C age calibration program by Stuiver and Reimer (1993). Penguin offers an easy user interface based on the well-known Macintosh standard multiwindow environment to create and edit the CALIB 3.03 calibration files and to export data in text format. Penguin and CALIB interact at the file level, i.e., Penguin is capable of reading and writing files in CALIB formats. Files containing the data are created in the Penguin environment and then saved on disk in the Penguin format. Penguin allows multiple editing of the calibration parameters and recalibration of the list of samples without the need to insert any modifications manually throughout the list. Penguin can also be used to read already calibrated files in order to extract the “cal” ages and display them in a spreadsheet-like window.

Abstract:
Manually defined distance restraints can be useful during structure refinement, particularly in low-resolution refinement where the additional restraints are needed to maintain appropriate stereochemical geometry. A large number of restraints are often required when refining macromolecular structures. Currently, restraint definition requires manual editing of a text file, which can be a daunting task when working with a large number of restraints.ResDe(Restraint Definer) is a suite of Python-based tools that allows the user to quickly define and edit restraints using thePyMOLgraphical interface.

Abstract:
With the innovation of computer, virtual clothing has also emerged. This research mainly discusses the real-time animation complex of interactive clothing design based on computer simulation. In the process of realizing virtual clothing, the sample interpolation synthesis method is used, and the human body sample library is constructed using the above two methods (primitive construction method and model reconstruction method) first, and then, the human body model is obtained by interpolation calculation according to the personalized parameters. Building a clothing model is particularly important for the effect of trying on. The clothing that needs to be displayed can be scanned and then input into the computer to build the model. The model can be directly built in 3DMAX and other software and then its surface texture can be mapped, or the clothing model can be directly built. The 3D model in the 3ds file is loaded by the loop body nested switch branch selection structure. Correspondingly, the write-back operation of 3ds files is similar. Just follow the general structure of the 3ds file and write the root block, version information block, edit information block, key frame information block, etc. to a brand new file in sequence. The main reason for this article to perform the 3ds file write-back operation is that, after the clothing model is dynamically simulated through the dynamic principle, the deformed key animation frame needs to be saved as a 3ds file so that it can be further imported into the 3DSMAX software and generated by the renderer, form high-quality picture information, and finally get high-definition animation video. In the CPU-GPU hybrid method, modules such as force calculation, collision processing, and position update use the GPU method, while overstretching is processed by the CPU method, making the overall performance 10 times higher than the pure CPU method. This research helps to promote the development of 3D virtual clothing design.

Abstract:
The new release ofDEBUSSYis introduced, a free open-source package devoted to the application of the Debye function analysis of powder diffraction data from nanocrystalline, defective and/or nonperiodic materials. The general strategy of the suite remains unchanged, following a two-step approach managed by theCLAUDEandDEBUSSYprograms, respectively. The first step essentially consists in generating a database where structural, size and shape information on a nanocrystal population is stored; the second step consists in the calculation, through the Debye scattering equation, of the total diffraction pattern using the previously generated database and a set of model parameters provided by the user and then optimized by the program. The novelties lie in the computational, modelling and graphical levels, and several new programs and features have been added. Among these are a new general comprehensive input file format (.ddb) for the database generation, the automatic management of the space-group symmetry and .cif file, new nanocrystal shapes, size-dependent site occupancy factors and thermal parameters for each atomic species, new lattice expansion functions, and a newly developed algorithm for calculating the standard errors of the optimized parameters. TheCLAUDEsuite also includes a program for calculation of the pair distribution function. Last but not least, a graphical user interface, which makes it easier to edit input files, execute the programs of the suite in a chain-like way, and plot the results in an automatic or custom manner, is provided.

Artt, S. J. "The Master and Mrs Wharton : film adaptations of the work of Edith Wharton and Henry James." Thesis, Queen Margaret University, 2005. https://eresearch.qmu.ac.uk/handle/20.500.12289/7329.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is an examination of six films adapted between 1993 and 2000 from novels by Henry James and Edith Wharton: James's The Wings of the Dove, The Golden Bowl, The Portrait of a Lady and Wharton's The Age of Innocence, The House of Mirth and The Buccaneers. All six films have been claimed as part of the costume drama/literary adaptation/heritage genre. The analysis of this cycle of adaptations focuses on the visual expression of four key themes: wealth, desire, decorum and social mobility. Dress and art are deployed within the visual fabric of these adaptations as symbolic objects that make up what Wharton termed the "hieroglyphic world" of society. In this cycle of films, the use of art and dress constitutes a new way of viewing costume and art as elements of the adaptation process. Barthes's aspect of the third meaning, "the passage from language to significance" is conveyed through dress and art as sites of visual meaning, a concept that is also deployed by James and Wharton in their fiction. The mise-en-scene of these six adaptations draws inspiration from a variety of artistic influences, ranging from the paintings of John Singer Sargent and James Tissot to the influence of early cinema and photography. Clothing plays an intrinsic role in both the novels and the film adaptations, in terms of displaying consumption, social class and character, and it also makes up the iconic images created by stars who take on key roles, such as Helen Bonham Carter's portrayal of Kate Croy as a "heritage noir" (cf. Church Gibson, 2000) femme fatale in the film of The Wings of the Dove. James and Wharton's narratives represent an expression of the 'transcultural aesthetic' making their fiction particularly apt for cinematic adaptation in an era of increased global mobility. This concept of the transcultural aesthetic is vital in attempting to widen the debate on 'heritage' cinema. While these films and novels share textual themes rooted in settings ranging from the late 1870s through to the early 1900s, the narratives are adapted in ways that make James and Wharton relevant to contemporary cinema audiences, while also reminding us of the timelessness of James and Wharton's narratives.

Abstract:
Within each activity, there is always some kind of project planning when you want to do business in a new market. These types of preparation are done in different ways and the challenge for companies is to make use of the right establishment strategy. To succeed in implementing a project, on the respective market that organizations are working on, one of the success factors is to have a clear and thoughtful approach. The company Beta offers cloud-based customs management services, which provide solutions that help other companies handle their customs issues. Beta is established in the Swedish market and wants to try to offer their IT solutions in Norway. The company therefore has a need to investigate how the Norwegian market looks, if there is an opportunity to broaden their existing system solutions and, if so, how they should go about getting a working system that can communicate with the Norwegian customs office. The report proposes a method that can be used as a basis for expanding a business to new markets. The development process presented should also be generalized, serve as a basis, and used by other companies facing the same challenge as Beta. This report also contains an analysis of the Norwegian market. There is a comparison between parts of the Swedish and Norwegian customs system and a presentation of the changes that need to be made based on differences. As a result, the report provides a clear picture of how one might possibly be able to address similar problems. The project members also present a result describing a solution to Beta's problems.

Abstract:
My work is not about making big declamatory statements. It's about looking around within my home environment and noticing something and thinking about it. At times (it) is noticed by me as I am passing by a storefront window or browsing through a second-hand store. I never have a clue to what I am looking for until I see it and buy it. Many times I will live with the object for years before deciding to use it as part of my art. Yet when I decide to use the object(s) I find it important to understand how they have been used, under used and why they are tossed away and given little notice in our day-to-day lives. In September, I was given Studio 244. Located in Shattuck Hall, Studio 244 was a former women's dressing room for the Theater Department. As soon as I saw it I realized this was "home" to my installation. The opportunity to work in this studio for nine months and to create an environment that would alter the look of the original space was extremely exciting and challenging. I divided the studio into three separate rooms. I built a long, narrow corridor, a tall windowed room (Domestic Goddess Room) and another room which was windowless but bright and cheery (Dressed For Success Room). These three rooms contained objects and texts which gave information to the way many women have lived and continue to live in the institution of home. Life is predicated on change. Many objects and concepts that we once took for granted as part of everyday life either have vanished or now seem destined to disappear. Others should have disappeared but keep popping up in each new generation disguised in new words and new packaging. I am a carrier and conservator of my culture, the good and the bad. As a visual artist I have the opportunity to tell my point of view, my passions and my story within the confines of a space which I have built and created for the sole purpose of saying, "Look at this. Please."

Abstract:
In recent decades film studies have shifted their focus to the emotional and bodily level of film experience. By adopting a phenomenological approach, this dissertation deals with the strategies of the film spectator’s involvement in contemporary mainstream narrative films. Chapter 1 reconstructs the meanings of the notion of empathy in philosophy, aesthetics, psychology and neurocognitive research. Chapter 2 traces a genealogy of empathy in film theories, from Bergsonism to Cognitivism, and evaluates the relevance of Simulation-Theory to film studies. Chapter 3 explores the relevance of Edith Stein’s phenomenological theory of empathy to film theory and assumes it is a theoretical model to investigate the “intensified” nature of both film design style and film reception style. A film is constructed and experienced on the basis of the “circuit of empathy”, a stratified system of different species of empathetic interaction, acting at senso-motorial, perceptual, cognitive and emotional levels with the aim of generating both an aesthetic and an inter-subjective experience. Chapter 4 analyses a vast corpus of contemporary films and focuses on four “aerial figures” of involvement and their combination: acrobatics, falling, flying, and non-gravitational movements, both of the actor’s human body and of the film’s anthropomorphic body. In the Conclusions, it is argued that the spectator internally imitates these “double” movements and inadvertently experiences the intentionality implied in the figures. Contemporary film spectators empathetically “get”, with their own sensibility, the senses of an experience that transcends the immanence of the film and contributes to the process of “giving” sense to the World, the Other, and the Self.

1 Michal Vázal: The Confucian Ideal of Harmonious Community according to the Norms of the Wu Lineage from Mingzhou Abstract Abstract: This paper aims to characterize the structure and values produced by rituals in a kinship community, and how these characteristics subsequently helped to shape a harmoniously working community and its ideological relationship with the state in terms of local governance. The rituals in question are partially confined in time and place, as they are observed on one particular community, and are examined only in the extent of the primary source named "The Norms and Rituals of the Wu Lineage of Mingzhou" (Mingzhou Wu Shi Jiadian) - a ritual manual authored mainly by Wu Di (died 1736) from the village of Mingzhou, which belonged to the Huizhou prefecture (the south of the present day Anhui province). On the other hand, this text is largely based on Zhu Xi's "Family Rituals" (Jiali) which were viewed across the country as the ritual standard. The most essential rituals used to govern the lineage were coming of age ritual, wedding rituals, funeral rituals and sacrifices to ancestors. A unifying principle behind the structure and values these rituals created was seniority. The lineage structure was created mainly by the system in which the branches of firstborn sons were superiors to...

Abstract:
In this paper, a general body motion editing system for 3D body motion is constructed. The input of the system accepts any human-like structure according to a specified file designation. The body models are imported using STL format. The user-interface is designed for intuitive 3D manipulation just as operating a video recorder. The software system includes three main functions: motion editing, interpolation, and replication. There are three teaching modes available in world coordinate, local coordinate, and joint coordinate. For editing or retouching existing motions, users can easily choose a key frame to teach, and save the posture as a body motion staff (BMS). Several motion interpolation methods are provided to simulate different body motion characteristics. The BMS between the key frames are generated. The BMS can be used to edit and analyze body motions just like the musical staff does to the music.

Abstract:
A combined system consisting of a forecast model to predict ice drift and a viewer tool for ice management, IceMS were developed for providing ice information during the Arctic Coring EXpedition (ACEX). The main task during the multi international expedition ACEX was to retrieve sediment cores from the Lomonosov Ridge in the central Arctic Ocean. Large ice floes or thick ice that drifts towards the drill ship threaten the operation by forcing the drill ship from its position. The gathered ice information was imported into IceMS and presented to the ice management team. Risk analysis for continued drilling operation was made, and instructions of where the Icebreakers Oden and Sovjetski Soyuz should break ice in the drilling area were carried out. The software IceMS contains tools to update the ice conditions, history lines of ships and buoys, and includes the possibility to import track lines showing the ice drift forecasts. The key concept is the combined visualization of map data and up to date imagery from satellite, airplane photos and ice charts, together with results from an ice drift forecast model. It is possible to move the images in IceMS map according to the observed ice drift recorded by the buoys placed on drifting ice floes. An overlay to mark and edit polygons, e.g. representing areas with certain ice classification, can be shown on top of the images. The edit overlay can be exported to file, which enables sharing of judgments and forecasts to other units. The model to predict ice drift is a state of the art ice drift model that is developed for describing rapid changes such as circular motion with a period of about twelve hours called inertial motion. The ice drift forecast was based on weather forecast and measured ocean currents near the drill site. The combined system of IceMS and the forecast model is being further developed for supporting ice management teams on offshore platforms and other constructions in ice infested areas. Results from Ice Management will be presented, showing examples of how IceMS presented ice information and validation of the ice drift model during the Arctic Coring EXpedition (ACEX). New tools in IceMS will also be presented.

Abstract:
The role of multimedia enriched web-based applications is being widely accepted as an effective training and instruction mechanism for technical training. Individualized training tools can be created to fit the trainee’s needs. The use of three-dimensional visualization for the web-based training environments plays a key role in building an effective and highly interactive training application. There are still needs to overcome problems regarding the integration of multimedia objects such as three-dimensional animation and simulation. The main objective of this research is to develop the training system with the help of the latest multimedia tools and using the internet as a delivery media. The use of the three-dimensional visualization adds a significant improvement in web-based environment for technical and engineering trainings. In order to accomplish the goals of this research, two kinds of environments are established. Although, the training sections of both the environments are same, there is a difference in terms of editing the position and appearance of the solid models inside the training environment. In the first environment, there is always need of multimedia specialist to edit the position and appearance of the solid models inside the environment. Second environment is provided with a text-based HTML file to provide the easy editing tool for controlling the solid models inside the training environment.

Abstract:
The NASCAR Truck Aerodynamic Improvement team is tasked with providing aerodynamic analysis and improvement to Ford Performance and their factory supported team Brad Keselowski Racing for their Ford F-150 race trucks. A Ford F-150 race truck is a “stock” truck that has some modifications for racing speed and safety. Ford Performance, reached out to an MSOE student and asked if a Senior Design team and project could be assembled to provide them with some aerodynamic analysis and improvements that would not require them to build and test using a trial-and-error type method resulting in expensive, and real, testing. The purpose of this project was to conduct a computational fluid dynamic analysis on the truck and make design changes to the truck that will provide more down force on the front two tires. The areas of the truck that were studied included the side panels, deck lid, rear quarter panels, and frontal geometry. There were also constraints put in place by the NASCAR rulebook on the vehicle specifications. These rules limit the design changes that were made to the truck. The model was originally sent as a laser scanned STL file. This file needed to be heavily edited in order to be imported into the CFD program. The programs used to edit this file include Geomagic, Autodesk Fusion 360, and SolidWorks. Through using these programs, the laser scan file was modified to a usable format. Upon conclusion of the CFD simulations using ANSYS Fluent, it was found that the truck with no geometry changes displayed a drag coefficient of 0.489 and a lift coefficient of −0.815. These results were found after 10,000 iterations of testing. The standard deviation in the drag and lift coefficients were 0.00743 and 0.01660 respectively. All statistical calculations along with the averaged solutions were calculated using the data after the 2,500th iteration. This is because the nature of the CFD solutions tend to fluctuate greatly at first and then slowly converge with more iterations. After the 2,500th iteration, a relatively steady state in the solutions is met where the residuals are converging to a single value or the fluctuation in the solutions is repetitive. The following design changes were made in attempt to increase the down force on the truck. A rib was added to the side panel in order to increase the downforce on the truck. The side panel was also modified with a cut. The contour on the rear deck lid was smoothed in order to decrease drag on the truck. Slots were cut out of the shell of the truck behind the rear wheels on both sides of the truck. These slots were angled in an attempt to create down force on the rear wheels. The front splitter was lowered closer to the ground in attempt to increase air velocity moving under the truck. This higher velocity air would create a lower pressure region under the car which would increase down force. All of these modifications were applied to the initial truck body and tested using the same setup as the baseline. The most successful design change was the rear deck lid modification which resulted in a drag coefficient of 0.472 and a lift coefficient of −0.816. This is a 3.48% decrease in the drag coefficient and a 0.12% decrease in the lift coefficient (or 0.12% increase in downforce). The results of this project were purely simulation based; any real modifications and field testing made will be performed by Brad Keselowski Racing and Ford Performance.

Abstract:
Abstract For most advanced semiconductor products, the preferred methodology for achieving Focused Ion Beam (FIB) circuit modification and node access is through the backside of the chip. The high density of interconnect wiring and the presence of C4 solder bumping has made complex edits virtually impossible with conventional frontside techniques. IBM has developed a set of procedures for performing backside edit on circuits built using the Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) process. While the basic approach and techniques parallel many of the established practices developed for handling transistors built in conventional bulk silicon, there are a number of key and critical differences. In this paper, we will address the basic instruction set developed for successful FIB work on SOI product. This will include backside silicon surface preparation, charge control, endpointing during high volume silicon removal, global and local coordinate lock techniques, floor voltage contrast phenomena, floor preparation and preservation, fill pattern issues and advantages, and finally the target structure alignment, access, connection and/or removal. Post process bake and handling will also be discussed.
