Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced lecturers at South African universities to reconceptualise their teaching and learning activities. Universities had to embark on remote teaching to salvage the 2020 academic year. This created the opportunity to draw on students’ creative and digital skills to promote digital storytelling as a way of enhancing their learning experience. This article describes the journey of a teacher educator and a group of students registered for a language didactics module in an initial teacher education programme. Film study was traditionally presented through lively conversations in a contact session where students could exchange their perceptions and opinions regarding various aspects of film. Because of the COVID-19 lockdown this approach had to be reviewed. The lecturer in question employed digital learning competencies to transform learning through the innovative use of digital tools and resources to rethink student engagement with film. Students were invited to create digital stories. The outcome of the process not only improved their understanding of teaching film but also promoted their digital competencies and empowered them to create resources they could use in their careers.

In any lectures, the lecturer must fill journal lectures. Journal of the activity is used to determine the subject matter of the lecture material delivered. In addition as an evaluation if there is material that has not been delivered. Each journal lectures will be always monitored by the Head of the Department to meet its obligations if the lecturers in teaching or not. In the process of implementation, all lectures still be entered manually using paper. It made less cumbersome and complicates monitoring of the Head of Department to monitor any lectures . So the need for making the portal lectures to assist monitoring and lectures journal entry. Making these lectures portals using PHP programming language and MySQL database . As well as using the waterfall method and blackbox testing . Waterfall method includes user requirements, analysis, design, implementation and testing. Blackbox testing is used to test the program without the test of functional design specifications and program code. Used also Entity Relationship Diagram, Data Flow Diagram and in the design of the information system. In this paper we elaborate on the educational use of film posters understood as film paratexts in Gérard Genette’s theory as well as in later media research. The subject of our research is cinéma de banlieue – a French film movement that situates the protagonists not only spatially, but also socially (such as La Haine, dir. M. Kassovitz, 1995, Entre les murs, dir. L. Cantet, 2008, Peur de rien, dir. D. Arbid, 2015, and Dheepan, dir. J. Audiard, 2015). By analyzing film paratexts, we include these materials in the context of cultural representations of the Parisian suburbs. Our research is established in educational and academic practice whose essential part is the in-depth work with the paratexts conducted by students and facilitated by the lecturer.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the increase in critical thinking skills of Visual Communication Design studens at Universitas Dinamika in the mass media. This research focuses on the ability to identify, discover, and solve problems. Researcher used a film medium called "Green Hornet" (2011) by Michel Gondry combined with the discovery learning model. This film tells the story of the production process of the media (newspapers) in the hands of readers. There are interference from media owners, journalists, and other conditions on an issue that will be published by the media. The "discovery learning" model provides an opportunity for students to actively search for, gather, and compile information in order to describe a knowledge. While a lecturer provide data or instructions (models) to find out what students must learn. The lecturer must also review and provide a review of the student's independent learning outcomes. Researcher ask questions that fit the indicators of critical thinking using newspapers and television media. The results of this study were the students' critical thinking skills improved. In cycle 1, students are able to increase their critical power when identifying titles, subtitles, words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and captions. While in cycle 2, improvement occurs when students identify images or visuals, tables, charts, and problem solving.

Abstract:
In learning Maharah al-Istima, a lecturer at a college in Palangka Raya uses films from Youtube. Learning to listen to a foreign language cannot separated from problems, but students try to find solutions. This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore the use of films from Youtube in Maharah al-Istima's learning, listening problems and their solutions. The data were collected through observation, interview and documentation techniques, and the data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the lecturer used movies from Youtube offline and online by collecting, selecting, verifying credibility and evaluating the quality of the film. This activity trains students to listen to Arabic and increase their knowledge so that the results of listening of the students are good. The problems faced by students while learning to listen are the fast Arabic pronunciation, the lack of clarity in conversations and the difficulty in vocabulary. Students solve the first problem by playing back, focusing on listening or using dictionaries and other learning strategies. For the second problem, the students overcome them by focusing and understanding the context of the sentences, using a dictionary or other learning strategies. For the third problem, the solution is to train hearing, using a dictionary and reading frequently. The implication of this study is that multimedia communication can help improve the student's listening ability in both offline and online learning.

Abstract:
In the lecture there is a permanent lecturer who serves as an Academic Adviser namely a person whose job is to provide students with assistance in adjusting to lectures and assisting students in solving problems encountered during college by providing various alternatives for students. Students are required to have abilities and expertise. To achieve the objectives of final year students and also universities in graduating the best graduates, communication between students and lecturers is needed. Because it is very influential in training mentally students and is very helpful for students in completing their lectures. The influence of an academic advisor can actually be an important factor for final year students, but students may also consider it to have no effect on their graduation. So the Naive Bayes method, in order to find out whether Academic Advisers play an important role in the graduation of final year students, students are asked to fill out a questionnaire relating to the influence or not of the Academic Advisor on final graduation. It is hoped that this study can determine the effect or absence of Academic Advisers on the graduation of final year students, later the results of the output from this system can be an evaluation material for universities.

Abstract:
In this article Jane Turner explores the trilogy of works titled Re-placing Texts, together with Epilogue, devised and performed by the innovative group Plane Performance, now in its tenth year. The trilogy – Three Degrees of Frost, SET and Round-about – are rewritings of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, David Lean's film Brief Encounter, and Rogers and Hammerstein's film musical, Carousel. The article examines the strategies adopted by the company as acts of ‘creative vandalism’, both in terms of current understandings of theatre practice and in terms of their treatment of the original texts. Jane Turner argues that the dramatic texts have become ossified by cultural usage and that the radical stance taken by the company allows for a counter-cultural position to re-emerge. The author is a Principal Lecturer in Contemporary Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has recently published work on Eugenio Barba and applied theatre practice.

Abstract:
In the ten years between 1982, when Giorgio Strehler announced his intention to stage both parts of Goethe's Faust over six evenings, and the eventual two-evening performance amidst a ‘Faust Festival’ in 1992, the Faust project underwent a series of modifications and manifestations, in parallel with the struggle to create the Teatro Grande in Milan as a new house for the Piccolo. The progress and realization of the project are here charted by Christopher Balme, who not only describes the work processes involved, but how these became enmeshed both in the politics of Strehler's relations with the city of Milan, and with his own identification, as actor of Faust as well as director of the project, with the role of the hubristic artist, in quest of a climax to a controversial career. Christopher Balme is a lecturer in theatre studies at the University of Munich's Instituttür Theaterwissenschaft. He has published on modern German theatre, theatre theory, and post-colonial drama and theatre. He has previously held posts at the University of Würzburg, and was Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow in Theatre Studies at Munich University. He has also been a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Theatre and Film at Victoria University in New Zealand.

Abstract:
The current significant progress has been experienced by the publication of Information media, one of which is the scoring system. In measuring the ability of students or students in learning outcomes during the learning process assessment system is very important in an educational institution both high school and college. Universitas Raharja is one of the educational institutions that have implemented the assessment system (PEN +) online, which provides services to the lecturers of the University of Raharja in the input of the value that can be accessed anywhere and Anytime. However, nowadays for the process of the input of the value of work lecture (CTF) that has been run by students is still done manually or not computerized because lecturers still have to come to the campus to fill out a list of student value lists Submitted to the RPU. This is very inefficient, because in the assessment system PEN + lecturers have not been able to input the value of work lecture (KKP) in real time. Therefore, there is a need for development in the Coursework Assessment System (CTF) where the value of the input form is Grade. In this study there were 10 (ten) literature studies on the assessment. Thus there are 2 (two) advantages that the lecturer does not need to come to the campus to fill the form that is then handed over to the RPU and notifications for a list of values that students receive will be faster.

Abstract:
The relationship between live theatre and the rapidly developing multimedia technologies has been ambiguous and uneasy, both in the practical and the academic arena. Many have argued that such technologies put the theatre and other live arts at risk, while others have seen them as a means of preserving the elusive traces of live performance, making current work accessible to future generations of artists and scholars. A few performance and production teams have entered the fray, deliberately pushing the technology to its limits to see how useful it may (or may not) be in dealing with the theatre. One such team – comprising Lizbeth Goodman, Tony Coe, and Huw Williams – forms the Open University BBC's Multimedia Shakespeare Research Project, and on 4 September 1997 they presented their work as the annual BFI Lecture at the Museum of the Moving Image on London's South Bank. What follows is an edited and updated transcript of the lecture – which was itself a ‘multimedia performance’ – intended to spark debate about the possibilities and limitations of using multimedia in creating and preserving ‘live’ theatre. Lizbeth Goodman is Lecturer in Literature at the Open University, where she chairs both the Shakespeare Multimedia Research Project and the new ‘Shakespeare: Text and Performance’ course. Tony Coe is Senior Producer at the OU/BBC, where Huw Williams was formerly attached to the Interactive Media Centre, before becoming Director of Createc for the National Film School, and subsequently Director of Broadcast Solutions, London. Together the team has created a range of multimedia CD-ROMs designed to test the limits and possibilities of new technologies for theatre and other live art forms – beginning with Shakespeare

Abstract:
At HTW Berlin, Germany first year mechanical engineering students are taught material science as one of the fundamental courses with high work load in a blended learning environment with flipped classroom elements. Therefore peer-to-peer lecture films were established as source of theoretical background knowledge provided for self-study periods. Because the teaching method “inverted classroom” and class results directly relate to the quality of the video material one of the columns of lecture video production is the involvement of students in the lecture film production. First year students directly benefit from their fellow student learning experience, needs and perspective on teaching material. From the lecturers perspective students were generally more active and better prepared during class resulting in better grades. Practice examples introduce and evaluate both, the teaching method and videos.

Abstract:
John McGrath spurned the easy road to television fame that seemed open to him early in his career, but remained concerned throughout his life to develop the creative potential of the medium, and to exploit what made it distinctive from the forms of film and theatre in which he was also engaged. Unlike many of his contemporaries, McGrath's work was thus underpinned by a strong sense of the differing qualities of the performing media, and nowhere is this more evident than in Blood Red Roses, which began its life as a stage play for 7:84 Scotland in 1980, was adapted into a three-part television serial for Channel 4 in 1985, and re-edited for the version directed by McGrath for Freeway Films. In exploring the differing sensibilities and structures of the different versions, Stephen Lacey draws on ideas – notably the concept of realism – as formulated by George Lukács largely in relation to yet another genre, that of the novel, in which he often found himself in conflict with the ideas of Bertolt Brecht. Stephen Lacey is Principal Lecturer in the Department of Contemporary Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, and co-director of a major AHRB-funded research project, ‘Cultures of British TV Drama: 1960–82’.

Abstract:
The article discusses the problem of moral issues related to giving academic lectures at universities. It shows the need for higher moral standards of lectures, related to spreading audio and visual means of communication and reaching a more diverse audience. The main subject for reflection consists of difficult matters, controversial problems and differences in opinions. In this context, the article presents the analysis of recommendations by the Ethics Committee at the Polish Academy of Science and the remarks resulting from contemporary literature on philosophical education. The analysis of lecture value points out how important philosophical historical experiences are in this area. It emphasizes that it is necessary to consider the meaning of cultural context in more detail while interpreting the problem (the principle of conducting lectures – the principle of parrhesia – Michel Foucault).

Abstract:
It has long been the received wisdom that television drama has become increasingly ‘filmic’ in orientation, moving away from the ‘theatrical’ as its point of aesthetic reference. This development, which is associated with the rejection of the studio in favour of location shooting – made possible by the increased use of new technology in the 1960s – and with the adoption of cinematic as opposed to theatrical genres, is generally regarded as a sign that the medium has come into its own. By examining a key ‘moment of change’ in the history of television drama, the BBC ‘Wednesday Play’ series of 1964 to 1970, this article asks what was lost in the movement out of the studio and into the streets, and questions the notion that the transition from ‘theatre’ to ‘film’, in the wake of Ken Loach and Tony Garnett's experiments in all-film production, was without tension or contradiction. The discussion explores issues of dramatic space as well as of socio-cultural context, expectation, and audience, and incorporates detailed analyses of Nell Dunn's Up the Junction (1965) and David Mercer's Let's Murder Vivaldi (1968). Madeleine MacMurraugh-Kavanagh is the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on the HEFCE-funded project, ‘The BBC Wednesday Plays and Post-War British Drama’, now in its third year at the University of Reading. Scholars are increasingly expected to share their knowledge through different media besides the written publication but struggle to do so. How might they teach their students the skills to do so? This article argues that Practice as Research, developed by practitioners venturing into academia, provides a useful framework to shape research outcomes into, for instance, video essays or interactive narratives. It is especially valuable to undergraduate students aiming to increase their knowledge and understanding of media through practical work, as it trains both practical and academic skills. This gives Practice as Research an added value in academic media studies curricula. This article is based on a case study of an advanced practical course for film and television students at Utrecht University and relies on course assignments, feedback conversations and auto-ethnography. As this article was authored by the course lecturer and two students, it provides insight from multiple perspectives.

This article discusses the application of Hybrid Learning using the Edmodo application in the subject of the qualitative research method for fourth semester students at Podi PGMI UNISMA Malang. The discussion chapter is divided into three sub-topics. First is online lecture planning in qualitative research courses. Starting from semester learning plans, learning strategies and material preparation in the form of soft files, so that they are easily uploaded and downloaded by lecturers and students. The second is the implementation of online lectures in qualitative research courses. For some online college students it is new but for most online college students it is new. The difficulties and advantages of online ducting appear on each side. One of the difficulties associated with technical matters is understanding material and collecting tasks. From an excess point of view, one of them is that students no longer print assignments so they are more efficient because there are no printing costs for lecture assignments. The three Edmodo assessments provide a variety of assignment models ranging from file delivery assignments, choice of gandan, essay, match, and incorrect. In addition, the value of learning outcomes is better controlled because each task file, Edmodo provides an assessment form. So that students are able to know the assessment transparently. And if something goes wrong, students and lecturers can monitor each other while conducting joint evaluations.

 Abstract
Towards the end of 2019 the world experienced the Coronavirus disease (Covid 19) pandemic which affected operations of education systems. This reflective study examines how a lecturer and students built hope and self-efficacy under Covid 19 educational contexts. Self-efficacy–hopeful thinking model and Bernstein Framework were used in this study. The sample consisted of 515 students and 1 lecturer and it was sampled through purposeful stratified sampling. Data was collected through the lecturer’s self-reflection on his ability to build hope, self-efficacy to meet academic demands. The lecturer also observed students’ behaviours. The data was analysed through content analysis. Findings indicated that Covid 19 educational contexts mediated on students’ levels of hope, acadmic investment and created false impression that University academic year had been lost. Some students developed low level of self-efficacy belief which forced them to approach educational problems without conviction and hopeful thinking. The findings indicated that lecturer’s behaviour towards students contributed to the improvement of a high sense of self-efficacy belief and effort investment in their work. The lecturer maintained hopefullness and confidence among students. The study concluded that educational processes under the uncertainties of Covid 19 were paradigm shift for the lecturer and students’ academic life. It provided opportunities to transform and reconstruct pedagogical discourses in relation to Covid 19 educational contexts. It may be recommended that lecturers and others within institutions may be urged to reflect on Covid 19 educational challenges and embrace them rather than avoid them.

Abstract:
NOT CHANGING LOOKS. PRESENTATION OF CRUELTY AND EVIL IN THE FILMS OF ANDRZEJ WAJDAAmong Andrzej Wajda’s legacy, the image of the totalitarian regime and its repercussions for people, countries, and humanity holds a significant place. Films of Andrzej Wajda, who was a liaison officer in the anti-Hitler Polish underground, are a kind of chronicle of the survivors of twentieth century. The article is dedicated to study the various forms of evil and its effects on real people. The study is applicable for our time because the world again deals with the recidivism of evil which the Soviet government spread in its own country and beyond its own borders. In the USRR, the perception of Andrzej Wajda’s films was dependent on the political play in action: when the relations between two countries were friendly, he received awards, however after the Solidarity was established, no one ever mentioned Wajda. The epic work Danton, about the French revolution, made in France during times difficult for Poland because of the martial law imposed on Poland, reveals the effects of revolution that paradoxically destroyed its most dedicated revolutionists, including Danton. Wajda’s refusal to American producers to direct a motion picture based on a screen play of Aleksander Slozenicyn had se-rious reasons, primarily commitment to his homeland. He made up for the missed opportunity to show Stalin’s evil empire when he shot the film Katyń. This word echoes deep tragedy in the heart of every Pole and the director succeeded in portraying the cruelty of mechanism of punishment in totalitarian USRR. The second most important aspect was the discovery of the lies of this regime, which tried to place the responsibility for the execution of Polish officers on the Nazis. After a premiere of Katyń in Ukraine, Andrzej Wajda was awarded the medal of Jaroslaw Madry. The article also includes the theme of influence of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novels on Andrzej Wajda’s work — the director not only used Dostoyevsky’s work for his filmmaking and staging, but as well he was inspired by Dostoyevsky’s deep analysis of dangerous social phenomena and the courage in discovering the evil. In Wajda’s films, which belongs to the so-called “cinema of moral unrest”, the tragic fate of a talented journalist Jerzy Michalowski, the hero of film Bez znieczulenia who personalizes the characteristics of a professional and a good man, simply horrifies. In his last film Powidoki, the director masterfully shows circles of hell survived by avant-garde artist Wladyslaw Strzeminski, the lecturer of Fine Arts Academy. All the films mentioned above are deemed necessary warning for future generations, they cannot put up with the aggression — on a political and private levels. Wajda’s lessons are universal, timeless, and everla-sting, like an eternal battle of good against evil.

Abstract:
This research was motivated by the obligation to conduct online lectures in the odd semester of 2020-2021 during the Covid-19 Pandemic. To prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, associ ations involving large numbers of people are unallowed. Therefore, Widya Gama Mahakam University provides a SPADA application accessible by lecturers and students for a more convenient lecture. This study aimed to analyze the use of online applications in online learning. This research was qualitative. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation. Testing the validity of the data was carried out by triangulating the source. Based on the research results, at the planning stage, the SPADA UWGM application has provided a complete system for lecturers to make conceptual and systematic planning. At the implementation stage, the SPADA UWGM application helps lecturers to distribute recovery materials, conduct interactive discussions through forums. However, for face-to-face online, there are still obstacles, especially in networks difficult to stabilize. Hence, learning through online classrooms and conferences is less effective using this application. The SPADA UWGM application interestingly contributes to the evaluation stage, especially to easily fill questions through question banks, assessments, and feedback from lecturers to students.

Abstract:
The colonisation of the Hawai’ian people is a story shared with Māori and other Polynesian peoples. It is a story of shame, desecration, loss of land and loss of life. The commonality of the historical Pacific experience, however, can too easily mask the variety of outcomes of the decolonisation process, and for Māori and Pakeha New Zealanders, the present-day lived experience of the Hawai’ian people can come as a shock to those who have never ventured beyond the hotels of Waikiki. In this interview with filmmaker and Auckland University of Technology lecturer Christina Milligan, indigenous Hawai’ian filmmaker and activist Anne Keala Kelly discusses her 2010 documentary Noho Rewa: The Wrongful Occupation of Hawai’i. For Kelly, the making of the film was not only a lonely and tough five years, It was also an emotional struggle to document the pain suffered on a daily basis by those of her community who evidence the ongoing struggle of a people who remain tenants in their own land.

Abstract:
In this wide-ranging article. Peter Holland explores the relationship between the director and the playwright from contrasting historical and artistic perspectives. A typical film-contract, as recently signed by Trevor Griffiths with Warner Brothers, is thus made to shed retrospective light on the less overtly proprietorial assumptions which governed Stanislavski's approach to the plays of Chekhov – and which, in effect, sanitized them of their political insights into pre-revolutionary Russian society, creating instead bourgeois tragedies about flawed individuals. Acknowledging the difficulties of creating a framework within which the role of the playwright could be introduced more authoritatively into the theatrical structure, the author nonetheless stresses the importance of recognizing the nature of the hierarchy, which gives pre-eminence to the directorial ‘reading’. Peter Holland, University Lecturer in Drama in the University of Cambridge, is currently writing (in collaboration with Vera Gottlieb) a study of Stanislavski for Cambridge University Press, and is preparing the Oxford Shakespeare edition of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Lecturer is educators who are under the auspices of higher education institutions. one of the duties of the lecturer is to guide and help develop the potential of students so they can complete their studies. Likewise, the lecturer in the Mathematics Education study program at one of the universities in Langsa city was appointed as an academic advisor (PA). but there are some obstacles that are felt by PA lecturers, such as the absence of a guidance manual, lack of understanding of technology, students consult only once in one semester, and some students only ask for signatures to fill Study Plan Cards (KRS) and Study Results Cards (KHS ) manual. However, students also have other perceptions, according to the interview results, it is known that PA lecturers are only needed to sign the KRS and KHS, some PA lecturers are difficult to find, some PA lecturers do not have time to consult, PA lecturers do not direct courses in the following semester. so the purpose of this study was to express student satisfaction in mathematics education in terms of PA lecturer services. The approach of this research is a quantitative approach. The research sample was 61 mathematics education students with systematic sampling. For data collection techniques using questionnaires and data analysis techniques using simple regression followed by the -F test. The results showed that the level of student satisfaction in terms of PA lecturer services was in a sufficient category, so it can be concluded that there was a significant contribution between the services of PA lecturers to the satisfaction of mathematics education students.

Abstract:
The following article is an edited transcript based on the David Turnbull Lecture given by Eugene E. Haller (University of California, Berkeley) at the 2005 Materials Research Society Fall Meeting in Boston on November 29, 2005. The David Turnbull Lectureship is awarded to recognize the career of a scientist who has made outstanding contributions to understanding materials phenomena and properties through research, writing, and lecturing, as exemplified by the life work of David Turnbull. Haller was named the 2005 David Turnbull Lecturer for his “pioneering achievements and leadership in establishing the field of isotopically engineered semiconductors; for outstanding contributions to materials growth, doping and diffusion; and for excellence in lecturing, writing, and fostering international collaborations.”The scientific interest, increased availability, and technological promise of highly enriched isotopes have led to a sharp rise in the number of experimental and theoretical studies of isotopically controlled semiconductor crystals. This article reviews results obtained with isotopically controlled semiconductor bulk and thin–film heterostructures. Isotopic composition affects several properties, such as phonon energies, band structure, and lattice constant, in subtle, yet—for their physical understanding–significant ways. Large isotope-related effects are observed for thermal conductivity in local vibrational modes of impurities and after neutron transmutation doping. Spectacularly sharp photo-luminescence lines have been observed in ultrapure, isotopically enriched silicon crystals. Isotope multilayer structures are especially well suited for studies of simultaneous self-and dopant-diffusion. The absence of any chemical, mechanical, or electrical driving forces makes possible the study of an ideal random-walk problem, in which moving atoms go in random directions at random intervals. Isotopically controlled semiconductors may find applications in quantum computing, nanoscience, and spintronics.

Ele é o autor dos livros Deleuze and Film (with David Martin-Jones, 2012); Supercinema: Film Philosophy for the Digital Age (2015); Non-cinema: Global Digital Filmmaking and the Multitude (2018); e The Squid Cinema From Hell (with David H. A entrevista concentra-se na apresentação de Brown, com base no seu livro mais recente.

Abstract:
Most students of English Education Program in STKIP PGRI Ponorogo can be considered as nontraditional students with family, work, and other life responsibilities which have many influences on their educational goals. Autonomous learning is a customized way of learning applied by individual to find out his own learning needs and learning goals, decide the most appropriate way for his own learning, as well as to monitor and evaluate the learning progress. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The primary techniques in data collection were questionnaire, and interview. In general, the most influential motivation for the students was internal motivation. Advisor’s availability, text book, internet, supportive atmosphere, self discipline, cozy and quiet place, and early morning were among the students’ choices for their autonomous learning. They frequently used music, film, video, essay, and smart phone application in their study. In general, the nontraditional students with high achievement were often felt easy to understand the material especially when it was delivered in relatively “easy” language, expressed their opinion bravely, and patient in doing their tasks. They considered friends, best friends, and lecturer as people who were capable to help them in doing autonomous learning

Abstract:
Arthur Schnitzler's cycle of sexual permutations in fin de siècle Vienna has always been prone to problems of translation – not least of its title, properly in German Reigen, but often miscalled La Ronde, after Max Ophüls's film version of 1950. But its problems for translators also derive from the cultural specificity of its time and place, and in this article Heidi Zojer first examines how its numerous English translators have tried to overcome the difficulties the play presents, illustrating from a cross-section of versions examples of its resistance to easy translation, whether ‘faithful’ or colloquial. She concludes that freer adaptations such as David Hare's The Blue Room (1998) have in fact been truer to the spirit of Schnitzler's play – while perhaps truest of all has been Carlo Gébler's complete rewriting, in Ten Rounds (1999), which ‘translated’ the play to contemporary Belfast during the years of the peace process. Heidi Zojer was awarded her D. Phil. from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in 1999. From 2000 to 2002 she was Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, and since then has been teaching at University College Dublin.

Abstract:
Jessie Matthews’ post-war tours to Australia were part of a sequence of commercially successful imported productions then heralded as a great boom era in Australian theatre. However, Matthews’ waning popularity in Britain since the 1940s meant that she was no longer recognizable as the screen darling of the 1930s. Indeed, the Australian press had to remind its readers of ‘evergreen Jessie’s’ succession of British film hits such as The Good Companions (1933) and Evergreen (1934). This article examines the critical and public reception of Matthews’ tours with a focus on the strategic management of her star persona, both on and off stage, including her public criticism of Australian theatre management and employment opportunities for Australian theatre performers. Serafima Birman was an actress of the Moscow Art Theatre who worked in the First Studio and Second Moscow Art Theatre throughout the revolutionary and civil war period (1910s–1920s) and went on to have a distinguished career as a performer, teacher, and director in Stalinist and post-Stalinist USSR (1920s–1970s). In this article Rose Whyman investigates her artistic and cultural contribution in the development of the Stanislavsky System and of her approach to acting, working alongside Vakhtangov, Michael Chekhov, and influenced by Meyerhold and other artists of the avant-garde. She was the first female director at the theatre, continued to act and direct in Soviet theatres, and worked in film, notably with Eisenstein on Ivan the Terrible. The development of her career required great determination and necessitated making theatrical and political choices in order to survive and maintain the artistic principles on which her work was based. Rose Whyman is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham and is the author of The Stanislavsky System of Acting (Cambridge, 2008) and Stanislavsky: the Basics (Routledge, 2013).

Abstract:
This article takes as its starting point Frauennot-Frauenglück (Women’s Misery – Women’s Happiness), a film representative of health education films on sex hygiene in Weimar Germany. This paper opens by situating the film in the landscape of German health education films from World War I to the Weimar era. I document the evolution of interest in sexual health education films in the early decades of the twentieth century and show how their narratives changed as a result of the increasing popularity of feature films in the Weimar period. The article then focuses on the lectures which accompanied health education films. I argue that an analysis of these under-investigated lectures can raise new stimulating epistemological questions on the historical status of health education films, as these lectures changed the filmic dispositive. I show how this common practice served as a technique of rhetorical reworking in efforts to adjust or orient the visuality of what was shown to the public. Drawing on two very different lectures which accompanied Frauennot-Frauen – glück, the article identifies two approaches to lecturing. While one consisted in enabling controversial films to be screened to the public, the other (socialist) approach transforms initial censorial intentions, allowing the speaker stress his personal or new positions.

Abstract:
In the following article Fiona Buckland describes how the leading British experimental dance company, DV8 Physical Theatre, was formed out of a disillusionment with its own dance medium, and how DV8 now works towards a reinvestment of creative need in stage performance. The first part reviews the company's work, methodology, and content to date, while the second offers a detailed analysis and explication of their award-winning and provocative Dead Dreams of Monochrome Men (1988), which expresses the paradox of gay male cruising as a need for security and desire for risk, both in terms of content and as an exhilarating contact-release form. The article explores the dynamism and theatricality of a style in which the body is both subject and mode of performance, and also the media, critical, and audience response DV8 performances have evoked. The author, Fiona Buckland, received her MA in Film and Theatre from the University of Sheffield in 1993, after which she worked there and at Sheffield College as a part-time lecturer in movement and choreography. She has also held workshops in Loughborough, Sheffield, and New York, and is currently the recipient of a Fulbright award on the doctoral programme in Performance Studies at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.

Digital Signature Training in Online Lectures to Reduce Attendance Manipulation Abstract Most universities in Indonesia have closed face-to-face learning activities and asked lecturers to carry out learning activities from home online. The rules regarding the obligation to attend lectures are at least 75% and attendance has a score of 20%. One way that can be done to overcome this is by using a digital signature application and utilizing an application owned by Google, namely Google Drive, which can be used to fill online presence. The purpose of this training is to create an easy and transparent presence for students. The number of participants in the training was 20 students of information technology education. The methods used in the training are the discussion method and the training method. The materials to be delivered include: a) how to install TTDigital; b) how to operate TTDigital; c) how to fill in online timesheet. The results of this training showed that 100% of the students attended the lecture, which was proven by having 16 TTDigital which were filled online and if there were students with blank TTDigital, it meant that the student was not taking the lecture. So, this training helps students in filling in attendance and helps lecturers to see and recapitulate student attendance.

Abstract:
Lecture videos are more and more implemented in higher education to be used widely by students providing an audio and visual stimulus. To attract students and become a fully accepted learning material these videos need to be of a certain standard. An important factor to the success of these videos is to involve students directly into the concept and making-of (peer-to-peer approach). The peer-to-peer approach is an important aspect in terms of project success, quality of the content and lecture video quality because students` needs and their perspective on teaching material are directly included in the videos. To encourage lecturers this paper provides a short guidance to look at basic needs and requirements of the lecture film production and “just get started”. Good lecture videos may successfully be produced with low threshold.

Abstract:
Teaching ethics to accounting students is a challenge for lecturers. Lack of knowledge on how to teach ethics and limited references to ethics teaching materials are examples of obstacles to teaching ethics. The film has been an exciting learning resource in accounting courses, which is a fun way to learn and full of value. This study is a preexperimental study to determine the effectiveness of using film media to convey ethical material to students majoring in Accounting, Politeknik Negeri Malang. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Based on the results of this experiment, 32 students stated that there were moral values that were learned from watching films. In contrast, 17 people indicated that they had learned other things such as cases of economic crisis and the application of the material in class to real life. Based on these results, films could be used as an alternative to teaching ethics to accounting students. This study offered a reference for accounting lecturers the ways to use film in accounting classes and samples of discussion and assignments in using film as a teaching resource. The result of this study could be a reference in renewing the curriculum to insert film as a learning resource, also to consider other learning resources.

Abstract:
Background While online-only courses can be delivered without constraints of geography or synchronization of lecture times, traditional in-person lectures continue to be central to teaching and to student experiences at most universities. Hybrid learning courses fill the gap between, providing convenience and schedule flexibility while maintaining the traditional face-to-face experience. The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy and Hunter College are urban campuses that draw working students from a wide commuting area, leading us to experiment with hybrid course formats that offer a maximum degree of flexibility to students. Methods Lectures and lab sessions were held on campus in a traditional lecture style, but streamed live over YouTube with remote attendees able to type questions and have them answered by the instructor in real time, and later made available for viewing. Results Through a post-course survey we found students to be divided in their preferences for in-person course formats (46%) versus synchronous and asynchronous online formats (35% and 19%, respectively). In the hypothetical scenario of retaking the course, the option of attending each lecture either in-person or online was preferred (69% for this hybrid format, 11% for in-person only and another 11% for online only). Although long commuting times, work and family responsibilities were common, interactivity and learning preference were the most important considerations for students regardless of their decision for online or in-person attendance. Analysis of YouTube viewing data showed a majority of online participation occurring during live lectures, with an additional peak of viewing of all lectures occurring immediately before exams. Conclusions We found this hybrid format to be a viable and popular way to accommodate diverse personal circumstances and learning preferences within the framework of a traditional lecture format.

Nye, Edward. "Jean-Gaspard Deburau: Romantic Pierrot." New Theatre Quarterly 30, no. 2 (2014): 107–19. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/s0266464x14000232.

Abstract:
Jean-Gaspard Deburau was the nineteenth-century mime artist who created a new model for subsequent performers to either imitate or reject, but hardly to ignore. Silent cinema benefited from the nineteenth-century vogue for the mime in general – and the Pierrot character that he did so much to popularize in particular. The most famous mime of the twentieth century, Marcel Marceau, derived his character ‘Bip’ in part from Deburau's Pierrot. And while two of the most influential French mime artists of the twentieth century, Jean-Louis Barrault and Étienne Decroux, sought a radical departure from his Pierrot tradition, they ironically found themselves in the now legendary French film Les Enfants du paradis acting the parts respectively of Deburau and Deburau's father. In this article Edward Nye explores the reasons for Deburau's success from two perspectives: first, by considering Deburau's reputation for clarity of expression, and the absence of critical or public debate over any obscurity; and second, the context of the Romantic movement which primed spectators to appreciate his style of performance. Edward Nye is Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, and University Lecturer in French. He has published on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century subjects in French literature and the arts, notably Mime, Music, and Drama on the Eighteenth-Century Stage: the Ballet d'Action (CUP 2011), Literary and Linguistic Theories in Eighteenth-Century France (OUP, 2000), and on the literary aesthetics of sports writing, in À Bicyclette (Les Belles Lettres, 2000).

Abstract:
The article reveals the author’s approach to the preparation and conduct of lectures in institutions of higher education in a mixed learning environment. It is determined that the development of digital technologies, the introduction of information and communication technologies in the educational process, the spread of electronic educational resources of open access, as well as the need to comply with the paradigm of competence-based approach in the process of training specialists determine the search for new forms of interaction between teachers and students. Based on the analysis of scientific research, it is revealed that the lecture as a form of occupation holds an important place in the system of training specialists for many centuries. Taking into account that in the modern digital society, a lecture is no longer the only source of knowledge, its value from the side of familiarizing students with the main scientific and theoretical provisions of the subject area is emphasized. It is noted that reducing the number of hours for lectures and increasing them for independent work does not solve the problem of students’ passivity while listening to lectures, because independent work is difficult to control, and in the absence of students’ motivation to learn and skills to learn independently, the quality of their training significantly suffers. It is proved that the use of interactive lectures is effective if students are first acquainted with the material of the topic, if they have critical thinking skills and develop communication skills. The author notes that mixed learning contributes to the effectiveness of independent work, the organization of various forms and methods of active learning and creative work of students, including during lectures. The results of experimental work on the implementation of mixed learning technologies in the preparation and conduct of lectures on the course “Methods of teaching computer science” are presented. It is offered to implement author’s structure of preparation for lectures using the electronic environment LMS Moodle, examples of multi-level tasks that should be offered before the lecture, during the reading and after it. The results of the study allowed the author to conclude that mixed learning will make up a small temporary amounts of lectures through information support in the form of e-learning resources, ensure the setup of interactive communication between students and the lecturer in the learning process, and the use of Moodle helps educator to fill a variety of course tasks and to configure the communication with students to increase productive interaction of the lecturer with the audience and test the level of mastering the material.

Abstract:
This study aims to build a WEB-based decision support system to simplify the process of assessing credit numbers for initial proposals for functional lecturers. With this system the lecturer will be made easier in terms of completing the required files and can quickly and accurately calculate the amount of cum that is obtained. The resulting system uses the Mamdani type Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) to analyze the variables used in assessing lecturers' functional position credit numbers. Furthermore, the system development stage uses the waterfall model. System design analysis includes outputs, inputs, file structures, programs, workflows, hardware and software needed. Then this system will certainly greatly reduce the use of paper because it is based on electronics. So later, with this system, it is expected that the credit score submission process does not take a long time and can increase the number of lecturers who have functional positions in STIKES Dharma Landbouw.
