Abstract:
Indonesian-Chinese in Indonesian films rarely become the main subject of the narrative and even still marginalized. Marginalization in Indonesian-Chinese looks back at the Indonesian history, which doesn’t provide the similar space as other Indonesian citizens. The development of Indonesian films now gives new space to new filmmakers, especially those academicaly speaking graduated from film schools. Narative and visual analysis was carried out on two works on Indonesian-Chinese by using a narrative research methodology with a qualitative approach. Stages of research conducted by the director will be the starting point in this research, especially in studying history. The research objects of these studies taken the biopic documentary "Lebih Cina dari Tionghoa" (2019), and the fiction genre film "Bulikan"(2019). These two films represent present-day and Indonesian-Chinese representations. This research is a study of representation on the visualization and narration of film by young generation.

Abstrak Hang Tuah (1956) merupakan salah satu filem adaptasi Melayu yang terkenal dalam sejarah perfileman tanah air. Filem ini dikatakan cuba mengangkat karya kesusasteraan Melayu klasik melalui Hikayat Hang Tuah dan Sejarah Melayu. Memandangkan filem ini bersifat adaptasi, maka sering menjadi perhatian dalam kalangan sarjana. Antara aspek yang sering menjadi daya tarikan mereka adalah soal kesetiaan dalam aspek naratif seperti plot, lakonan, gaya bahasa, latar dan tema. Namun demikian, artikel ini hadir dengan melihat kepada aspek lain iaitu stailistik yang mana merupakan salah satu elemen penting dalam pembuatan filem seperti sinematografi, mise en scene dan penyuntingan. Aspek stailistik filem Hang Tuah (1956) cuba diselami dengan mengaplikasikan teori historical poetic of cinema oleh David Bordwell (1989). Sebagai kerangka analisis utama dalam artikel ini, maka historical poetic of cinema cuba menjawab persoalan kajian; bagaimanakah aspek sejarah mampu memberi kesan terhadap stailistik filem Hang Tuah (1956)? Analisis kandungan turut dipilih sebagai instrumen kajian utama untuk memperolehi data daripada buku, artikel jurnal dan filem. Hasil analisis mendapati bahawa filem Hang Tuah (1956) cenderung kepada stailistik model pembuatan Hollywood. Walau bagaimanapun, keadaan persekitaran industri perfileman Melayu era 1950-an cuba mengubah stailistik filem Hang Tuah (1956) kepada acuan filem India. AbstractHang Tuah (1956) is one of the famous adaptation films in Malay cinema. The film endeavours to uplift the classical Malay literature through the Hikayat Hang Tuah and Sejarah Melayu. Since Hang Tuah (1956) is an adaptation film, it has always attracted the scholars’ attention. Among the main attractions is the matter of loyalty in the narrative aspects such as plot, acting, language style, background and theme. However, this article looks at other aspect namely stylistics. This important element of stylistics in film production includes cinematography, mise en scene and editing. The stylistics aspect of Hang Tuah (1956) was investigated by applying the historical poetic theory of cinema by David Bordwell (1989). As the main analytical framework in this article, historical poetic of cinema attempts to answer the research question of how the historical aspects can affect the style of Hang Tuah (1956) film? Content analysis was chosen as the main instrument for obtaining data from books, journal articles and films. The analysis found that Hang Tuah (1956) tends to resemble Hollywood production model. However, the environment of Malay film industry around 1950’s had influenced the stylistics of Hang Tuah (1956) film to be shaped by an Indian mould.

Abstract:
This research or analysis uses Vladimir Propp's narrative structure analysis of the genre of superhero film titled Gundala, which is based on Indonesian comics. Gundala is a superhero character or hero who has supernatural powers that come from the energy of lightning. Through the power of his lightning energy, Gundala as a hero is able to defeat villain as a criminal. This is the narration presented from the film Gundala. Thus, the use of the concept of narrative structure aims to reveal the role and position of each character in the frame of binary opposition. Next, an understanding of his supernatural powers was analyzed using the concept of anomalous categories from Claude Levi-Strauss. Furthermore, the film Gundala has its appeal in presenting the narratives of the characters. Both superhero and villain characters. Related to that, the use of the concept of brand aura aims to find an element of attraction for the characters of the shop for the cinema audience.

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>This study aims to find out how factual and digital reality are depicted in film.Castells’ theory on new media is taken for the base theory, subjectivity-identity and power and knowledge by Foucault. Narrative analysis by Lacey is applied to seek answer for the research problem. The advancement of Communication Technology has enabled human beings to have freedom in imagination and make it real. Digital technology and virtual realm are enriched with emerging faked realities and identities. Film, becomes a platform for practising this kind of freedom, making fantasy feels like reality. Film Ready Player One? directed by Steven Spielberg depicts real and virtual world. This study aims to elaborate how real life and digital life are narrated and described in this film. A new identity created in The OASIS,the digital world that a place where mankind escape from reality. Units to be analysed in eight structures of analysis are story, plot, and character. Concludesis factual reality and digital reality are described well in this film, it even tends to hyper-reality. Abstract:
This article describes the investigation of selected primary sources regarding the Battle of Çanakkale (Battle of Gallipoli) which occurred in the year 1915 in the Ottoman era, in addition to compiling a holistic annotation of the sources. Analysis of the narrative in this research gives meaning to the portrayal and description of the lesson aspect of narration from the records of the selected sources. The purpose of this research is to analyze and scrutinize the selected primary sources and the annotation to the Battle of Çanakkale 1915. The whole research used a qualitative approach through historical and content analysis design. Research data was gathered using document analysis and scrutiny of the selected primary sources. Data analysis in this research used an internal and external critique approach. Research findings conclude that in the acquisition of resources, there was a void relating to the Battle of Çanakkale 1915, especially in the Malay language as reflected from the native’s perspective. Hence, this research took the initiative to focus on the aspect of analyzing the narrative of the Battle of Çanakkale 1915 of some selected primary sources in the English language. This investigation was holistically conducted by scrutinizing the annotations of reference materials categorized as authoritative for the history of the Battle of Çanakkale 1915. Analysis of annotation was done on ten (10) materials for the category of war records (primary) randomly selected. This research can contribute to facilitating a search for sources relating to the Battle of Çanakkale 1915, especially authoritative primary sources. It can indirectly elevate the field of Muslim military history, particularly of the Ottoman era, to researchers of Islamic history and civilization corpus. In addition, a reference list in the Malay language for the Battle of Çanakkale 1915 was compiled in order to fill the void mentioned.

Abstract:
The construction of traditional gender roles has affected the understanding of being feminine and masculine. This understanding seems to influence gender performance in the film Mrs. Doubtfire. This one­hour­and­fifty­seven­minute film was directed by Chris Columbus. This study is conducted to examine how gender performativity is illustrated in the film and what ideology lies within the film. Queer theory, especially gender performativity by Judith Butler is used as the framework of the study. The study is done by observing and analysing chosen scenes from the film focusing on the performance of Daniel Hillard as Euphegenia Doubtfire. Narrative aspect of the film is not only the main concern; the non­narrative is also part of the analysis especially on costume, makeup, performance and color. The main finding of this study is this film in one hand celebrates traditional gender roles but on the other hand promotes gender as performance. Femininity is pictured as fluid. Therefore, it is also a performativity. The contestation between those two opposing ideas is smoothly wrapped through amusing film such as Mrs. Doubtfire.

 Film Mrs. Doubtfire karya Chris Columbus menampilkan konstruksi yang berbeda dengan konstruksi peran gender yang telah menjadi mainstream. Berdurasi 1 jam dan 57 menit, film ini menampilkan konstruksi maskulinitas dan femininitas yang dapat saling bertukar, cair, dan tidak baku. Studi ini mengkaji dua pertanyaan utama. Pertama, bagaimana konstruksi peran gender digugat melalui performativitas gender? Kedua, ideologi apa yang terdapat dalam film? Teori Queer terutama gender performativitas yang dikemukakan oleh Judith Butler menjadi kerangka penelitian ini. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengobservasi dan menganalisis adegan terpilih dengan berfokus pada penampilan Daniel Hillard sebagai Euphegenia Doubtfire. Aspek naratif dalam film bukan satu­satunya perhatian utama. Aspek non­naratif juga menjadi bagian analisis kostum, tata rias, penampilan, dan warna. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa film ini pada satu sisi mengonfirmasi peran gender yang tradisional, tetapi di lain pihak juga mencoba menawarkan performativitas gender. Ideologi film ini menggambarkan femininitas sebagai sesuatu yang cair sehingga femininitas juga sesuatu yang sifatnya performativitas. Kontestasi antara kedua hal tersebut disajikan dengan menarik dalam film Mrs. Doubtfire.

Hasil penelitian ini adalah berupa bagian-bagian naskah, struktur formal, dan struktur naratif. Naskah Wawacan PIkC ini terdiri dari pembukaan (1%), wejangan-wejangan Sunan Bagus (59%), cerita tentang seorang istri yang sempurna (40%), dan ditutup dengan alopon. Struktur formal terdiri dari analisis guru lagu, guru wilangan, karakter pupuh, dan samita pupuh. Struktur naratif terdiri dari tema, latar, tokoh, alur dan motif cerita. Isi naskah berupa wejangan dalam menjalani hidup berumahtangga. ABSTRACTThis study aims to investigate the characteristics of women Sunda contained in the manuscript Wawacan "Pranata Istri ka Carogé". The method used is descriptive analysis method, the data collected by technical documentation and literature. The results of this study are in the form of fragments, formal structure and narrative structure. PIkC Wawacan manuscript consists of opening (1%), discourses Sunan Bagus (59%), the story of a perfect wife (40%), and closed with kolopon. Penelitian ini mengkaji penerjemahan intersemiotika yang melibatkan teks intersemiotika, yaitu: teks kebahasaan berupa novel Breaking Dawn dan teks nonkebahasaan-kebahasaan berupa film Breaking Dawn part 1. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui variasi kedalaman makna eksperiensial pada teks intersemiotika novel Breaking Dawn dan film Breaking Dawn part 1, unsur film yang dipengaruhi oleh variasi, dan pengaruh variasi kedalaman makna eksperiensial terhadap kelogisan film Breaking Dawn part 1. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Hasil yang didapatkan, yaitu: pertama, variasi kedalaman makna eksperiensial film didominasi oleh kelompok variasi dangkal; kedua, seluruh unsur film menunjukkan adanya pengaruh variasi; ketiga, kelogisan film menunjukkan bahwa pada kelogisan internal, terdapat kelogisan pada unsur naratif, dan ketidaklogisan pada unsur mise-en-scène dan suara; sedangkan kelogisan eksternal menunjukkan adanya ketidaklogisan penggambaran film dengan temanya; dan keempat, film Breaking Dawn part 1 merupakan perwujudan kurang baik dari novel Breaking Dawn.Kata Kunci: penerjemahan intersemiotika, variasi kedalaman, dan makna eksperiensial Experiential meaning depth variation of intersemiotic texts Breaking Dawn novel and Breaking Dawn Part-1 movie AbstractThis research studied the intersemiotic translation that involved two intersemiotic texts: a lingual text in the form of Breaking Dawn novel and a lingual-non lingual text in the form of Breaking Dawn part 1 movie. The aims of the research were to find out the depth variation of the experiential meaning in the intersemiotic texts of Breaking Dawn novel and Breaking Dawn part 1 movie, the movie elements under the influence of variation, and the influence of experiential meaning depth variations onto the movie logic. This study was a qualitative research with the content analysis method. The results were first, the “shallow” group dominated the depth variation of experiential meaning; second, all of the movie elements showed variation influence; third, the movie logic showed that the internal logic showing the narrative element logic and the mise-en-scène and audio elements improperness; while the external logic showed the movie visualization improperness related to the theme; and forth, Breaking Dawn part 1 movie was not a good realization of Breaking Dawn novel.Keywords: intersemiotic translation, depth variation, and experiential meaning

Admired by Brecht, yet also counting Hitler among his fans, the German cabaret performer Karl Valentin remains an enigmatic figure for most English-speaking theatre people; and his accommodation as a licensed jester during the Nazi years has reinforced the received wisdom that his comedy was ultimately offering reassurances of their own supremacy to bourgeois audiences. Here, Oliver Double and Michael Wilson outline Valentin's life and career, and offer an analysis of his performance style closely linked to two of his best-known routines, which are here also translated for the first time into English. They conclude that Valentin's idiosyncratic style of surreal logic had an effect akin to that of Brecht's Verfremdung, of making the familiar strange, and so, while often extremely funny in its unexpected dislocations, never offering a simple view either of comedy or of life. Oliver Double worked as a comedian for ten years on the alternative comedy circuit, was formerly proprietor and compère of Sheffield's Last Laugh Comedy Club, and is the author of Stand-Up! On Being a Comedian (Methuen, 1997). Currently he lectures in Drama at the University of Kent at Canterbury. Mike Wilson, whose background is in community theatre, is now Professor of Drama and Field Leader for Performing Arts and Film at the University of Glamorgan. He has published widely on varying aspects of storytelling practice and, in particular, on teenage storytelling culture, notably in Performance and Practice: Oral Naratives Among Teenagers in Britain and Ireland (Ashgate, 1997). His latest book, Theatre, Acting, and Storytelling will be published by Palgrave in 2004.

Abstract:
This research is intended to produce a suitable video-based learning media on the making of helical gear in Milling Theory. This is a Research and Development type research incorporating six steps, namely: stating the potentials and problems, collecting data, designing the product, validation of the product design, revision of the design and product trials. Feasibility of the learning media was assesed by content-expert, media expert, teachers and students, by means of questionnaires. The quantitative research data were analized using quantitative-descriptive analysis technique. The product of this research is a learning media in the form of mp4 videos about Milling Machining practice. The media includes introductory music, videos, naration and animation. The feasibility level of the video-based learning media were assessed and presented in the form of percentages and classifications. The content-expert gave a feasibility level of 96.50% with classification of “very good”, the media-expert gave 80.63% with classification of “very good”, the teacher gave 76.25% with classification “very good” and the students’ responses reached 80.52% with classification of “strongly agree” to the use of the video-based learning media. It can be concluded that the video-based learning media of Milling Machining Theory is feasible to use in the teaching and learning process.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk berupa media pembelajaran berbasis video pembuatan roda gigi heliks pada Teori Pemesinan Frais yang layak digunakan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan enam tahap, yaitu: potensi dan masalah, pengumpulan data, desain produk, validasi desain, revisi desain dan uji coba produk. Kelayakan media pembelajaran dinilai menggunakan angket oleh ahli materi, ahli media, guru pengampu dan siswa. Data penelitian berupa data kuantitatif yang dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian berupa produk media pembelajaran Teknik Pemesinan Frais berbasis video berbentuk file mp4 yang dilengkapi dengan musik pengantar, video, narator dan animasi. Kelayakan media pembelajaran berbasis video dari ahli materi diperoleh persentase sebesar 96.50% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik, dari ahli media diperoleh persentase sebesar 80.63% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik, dari guru pengampu diperoleh persentase sebesar 76.25% dengan klasifikasi sangat baik dan berdasarkan respon penilaian siswa diperoleh persentase sebesar 80.52% dengan klasifikasi sangat setuju menggunakan media pembelajaran ini. Dengan demikian media pembelajaran berbasis video pada Teori Pemesinan Frais layak digunakan untuk proses pembelajaran.

Abstract:
The thesis deals with gender analysis in films studying metamorphoses of archetypes in film Bitter Moon directed by Roman Polanski. The methodical and theoretical sections of the thesis analyse the influence of archetype changes of film characters in gender roles. The thesis identifies and analyses mainly woman film characters appearing in some classical feminist texts, feminist film theoretical and critical articles, in some psychoanalytical works, in dramatheraphy and film science. The sources mentioned above became primary resource materials for our archetypal research. The analysis of each of the film character is focused on the most distinctive archetype with respect to its metamorphosy. Apart from the archetype research the thesis is marginaly concerned with problems linked to the female ideal and her sexuality usually portrayed in an unalterable way, and archetypal patterns are in such a way transmitted to audiences through femininity and masculinity in the context of gender roles. Abstract:
Interactive cinema is a relatively unexplored area of film and new media studies. This thesis summarizes the theories and models which relate to interactivity, interactive narrative and interactive cinema that have been developed so far, and defines the main elements which the interactive cinema consists of. It sets this area in the context of new media and their properties, such as interactivity and convergence. It also briefly deals with interactive cinema from the historical perspective. The thesis explains the basic methods of narrative and visual analysis, especially in the context of interactive cinema. These findings are then used in the analysis of three films with a nonlinear narrative structure using viewers interaction. These movies are set into the models and theories that were introduced in the first part of this thesis. Finally, the films are compared and confronted with the author's hypothesis, which is based on the relatively negative public acceptance of interactive cinema.

The thesis addresses analysis of stories and narrative in relation to the subject of gender. This analysis primarily deals with fairy tale The Beauty and the Beast by Disney. The first part is about general theoretical basis for my thesis and about the most important authors in this field. Archetypes and logocentrism topics are dealt with partially as well. The foundations of the first part are however literary and motion-picture feministic theories, also the concept of the myth of beauty. In the practical part sequences of the The Beast and the Beauty are studied. Findings described in theoretical part is utilized here and the marked and subtle influence of androcentric culture on style and content of the story is shown.

Abstract:
Films and series with criminal themes are very popular among audience. They also have quite a long tradition in the Czech (Czechoslovak) cinematography. Specifically in the 60's a lot of quality films with detective plots were made and they are appreciated among the audience until today. They are also repeated in television frequently. These films demonstrate both crime and further investigation, focused on the police activity. This representation is frequently portrayed as a reality and the audience tend to view it as such. Therefore, it is interesting to observe if this representation corresponds to real forensic practice. This diploma thesis deals with the given matter. It analyses five Czechoslovak crime films from the 60's and its goal is to determine if the forensic methods correspond to then reality. It also focuses on the figure of the investigator as the representative of the law and as the main character. The first part of the thesis is comprised of the theoretical background. It describes the principles of film narrathology and mainly the principles of forensic methodology and practice. The second part of the thesis is practical. The theoretical background is applied here to analyse each of the chosen films. The summary responds to the research question and summarizes results of the analysis.

Abstract:
This Master's thesis focuses on elements and manifestations of propaganda in selected films from the James Bond film series. The first part defines the scope of term "propaganda" from the point of view of communication and media studies. It also describes various authors' perspectives on different types and ways of propagandist persuasive message spread and how it can be revealed using discourse analysis. The thesis reflects especially the pragmatic approach of authors Jowett and O'Donnell and is compared to other cardinal approaches. The theoretical part also puts propaganda into context of time, i. e. the Cold War, and it mentions specific cases of its impact. The thesis deals with James Bond films as such, in particular with their narrative and its mythological and stereotypization constituent. James Bond films are examined, in the practical part, using content analysis. The aim is to detect described pro-eastern propaganda elements, analyse their manifestation and answer the research questions.

anglicky The aim of the diploma thesis Character of A Journalist in the Danish Series Borgen is to analyze the role and development of the journalist's character in terms of his professional life. At the same time, the aim is to create a representative typology of situations the journalist often gets into. The thesis deals with myths and stereotypes that surround the journalist profession and finds out how are these stereotypes reflected in the audiovisual work. The basis of the analysis and narrative approach is book Narrative as Virtual Reality: Immersion and Interactivity in Literature and Electronic Media by Marie-Laure Ryan. It takes a narrative as a mental image or construct, which consists of a world inhabited by beings who, by their actions, change the world. To create a situation typology the thesis works with set of diagrams. The diagrams visualise relationships and events between the characters. These diagrams are created by a visualisation program that makes it easy to understand the relationships between individual subjects, highlights the repeating situations and the characters at the heart of the action. It also allows more effective analysis through the overal view of the series and their systematic and complete description.
