Abstract:

På papiret virker Fight Club [1999] som et sikkert stikk. En litterær adapsjon utført av en kjent regissør (David Fincher) med solide stjernenavn på plakaten(Brad Pitt, Edward Norton). Men Chuck Palahniuks debutroman fra 1996 er et vanskelig verk, preget av mørk satire, flere lag med ironi og radikal subjektivitet. For å oversette en slik fortelling til film trengs ikke bare dristigheten til å fortelle om kontroversielle tema, men også oppfinnsomheten til å oversette en utpreget psykologisk roman til et audiovisuelt språk. Det er nettopp oversettelsen jeg skal undersøke i denne oppgaven, hvordan romanens kildemateriale har blitt gjenskapt i filmmediet. For å gjøre dette så konkret som mulig, snevrer jeg først inn undersøkelsen til filmens voice-over, som er basert på romanens tekst. Hvordan har bokas fortellerstemme blitt adaptert til en fortellende voice-over i filmen? Jeg skal ta for meg denne prosessen i tre deler, basert på tre stadier i adapsjonsprosessen hvor filmskaperne har hatt anledning til å kreativt bearbeide romanens tekst. Første del er voice-overen sett som skriftlig tekst, manusstadiet. Hva er kuttet, forandret og lagt til romanens tekst? Andre del er voice-overen som stemme, innspillingsstadiet. Hvordan forandres skriften i manus, og dermed også romanens tekst, idet en den blir til uttalte ord? Hvilke virkemidler har filmskaperne her benyttet seg av? Tredje del er fortellerstemmen i møte med resten av filmspråket, klippestadiet. Hvordan påvirker bildene og den øvrige lyddesignen vår opplevelse av fortellerstemmen, og hvordan er påvirkningen den andre veien? Deretter skal jeg utvide perspektivet igjen, og undersøke hvilke implikasjoner bruken av voice-over har for filmen som helhet. Hva kan en film kommuniserer Fight Club på denne måten? Tema blir ironi, upålitelighet, subjektivitet, karakterengasjement og kronologi. Anvendte teoretikere inkluderer Linda Hutcheon, Sarah Kozloff, Thomas Elsaesser, Gerard Genette, Seymour Chatman, André Bazin, Murray Smith og Lars Thomas Braaten.

Abstract:

Uppsatsen analyserar C.S. Lewis bok Narnia - Häxan och Lejonet (1950), översatt av Birgitta Hammar (1959 publicerad av bokförlaget Bonnier Carlsen (2016) och Andrew Adamssons film med samma namn (2005). Syftet med studien är att studera vad som händer gällande karaktärer, miljö och tema i Narnias - Häxan och Lejonet, när en adaption sker mellan bok och film. Analysens resultat är att boken och filmen är två likvärdiga medier med minimala skillnader. De största skillnaderna som framgår är att filmen enbart har indirekta miljöbeskrivning, samt att man arbetat med ansiktsuttryck och musik för att förstärka vissa känslor i filmen. I undervisningssammanhang är Narnia - Häxan och Lejonet en lämplig berättelse att arbeta med, men valet av verk bör baseras på vad syftet med undervisning är.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna uppsats är att jämföra boken The Hunger Games (2008) av Suzanne Collins med filmen The Hunger Games (2012) regisserad av Gary Ross och försöka ta reda på vilken sorts adaption som är gjord. Jag arbetar med boken och filmen The Hunger Games var för sig för att eventuella skillnader ska framträda tydligare vad gäller karaktärer och miljöbeskrivning. När jag gått in på djupet och jämfört boken The Hunger Games med filmen märker jag vad som är förändrat. Till exempel saknas vissa karaktärer och scener i boken i filmversionen, medan andra scener har lagts till i filmen. Samtidigt är det förståeligt att en del måste göras om och tas bort för att en bok på flera hundra sidor ska kunna visas i en film på cirka två timmar. Tillägg, borttagna avsnitt och ändringar kan vara till både fördel och nackdel.<br><p>Audiovisuella studier för lärarstuderande med inriktning svenska</p>

Abstract:

Uppsatsen analyserar John Greens bok Förr eller senare exploderar jag (2013), som är översatt av Ylva Stålmarck och Josh Boones film med samma titel (2014). Syftet med analysen är att ta reda på hur ett svårt ämne, i detta fall cancer, skildras i boken respektive filmen. Genom att undersöka hur de båda verken behandlar frågan om sjukdomen cancer är ett vidare syfte att se om dessa två verk är användbara i ett skolsammanhang i årskurs 4–6. Uppsatsen är en adaptionsstudie och visar att filmatiseringen efterliknar boken i mycket hög grad och att endast ett fåtal händelser och karaktärer är bortplockade eller omgjorda. Det budskap som bok och film förmedlar är även det ett samma budskap. Även om filmen i en högre grad än boken fokuserar på kärlekshistorien och har tonat ner bokens drastiska uttryck. Slutligen visar analysen att boken är mer riktad mot en äldre målgrupp än barn i åldrarna 10–12 år. Filmen däremot skulle kunna fungera att inkludera i undervisningen, åtminstone i årskurs 6.

Abstract:

This is a study about adaptation, focusing on the first book in the series about Harry Potter and the movie version of the book. The study examines whether any of the characters change when the book is adapted to another type of medium. For example, are there any character traits that are revealed differently in the book versus the movie? The materials that have been used are works of reference, the first book about Harry Potter and also the film of the book. Some of the literature has already been read prior to the study but will still be needed as the study continues.By the end of the study there should be some results to be shown. The primary purpose of the study is to clarify the differences and similarities that can appear when a work is transferred, for example, from book to film.

Abstract:

Selma Lagerlöf's story about Nils Holgersson, The wonderful Adventures of Nils (1906-1907), is unique in several different ways. It was innovative for its time and it was the first school book written as a story, which makes it an interesting foundation to build an essay upon. The essay examines Selma Lagerlöf's novel about Nils Holgersson compared to Dirk Regel's film adaptation (2011). Both the novel and the film are divided into two parts and only the first part of the book is compared to the first part of the film. Adaptations are common in today's society, a common type of adaptation is when a novel transform into a film but it can also be when a poem becomes music or a play turns into a film. The essay discusses what happens when a medium is transformed into another medium. The essay also has a pedagogical perspective and asks what happens when a didactic school book is adapted into a film. The view on children in Lagerlöf's time is discussed in relation to the view on children that prevails in today's society. When it comes to characters, I’m interested in seeing how Nils Holgersson is portrayed in the book versus in the film. The method used is Linda Hutcheon's and Siobhan O'Flynn’s adaptation analysis which focuses is on various factors that affect an adaptation. Regarding theory, I will use both Thomas Leitch’s adaptation theory and Maria Nikolajeva's children's literature theory. The results show that Lagerlöf's Nils Holgersson is a character who has few qualities. In the beginning he is bad and at the end of the story he becomes good, he develops through the story and is thus a flat but dynamic character. In Regel's version, Nils Holgersson is a complex character from beginning to end and he does not develop, he is thus a round but static character. The didactic perspective it is not as prevalent in the film compared to the book, but some episodes can be understood as having an educational message, which I interpret as a reference to the source medium.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna studie är att studera hur Du Mauriers roman Rebecca och filmatiseringen baserad på denna skiljer sig åt med inriktning på dialogerna. Genom att tillämpa en stilanalys från Hellspong kommer stildragen från respektive dialog påvisas och kompareras. Analysen visar att dialogerna är väldigt lika vad gäller stildrag och att dialogernas funktion skiljer sig åt. Resultatet antyder dels att det krävs olika stilar för att förmedla olika teman, dels att stil inte är bunden till innehållet samt att medierna påverkar dialogernas funktion. Slutsatsen är att stilen inte går att ändra på om rätt historia ska förmedlas, oavsett vilket medium det rör sig om, det handlar rättare sagt om att anpassa stilen till sammanhanget utan att ta bort det essentiella. Vidare kan denna studie påvisa möjliga kännetecken för dialogformen där bland annat stildragen verbal och dynamisk ingår.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur Harry Potter som karaktär framställs i boken Harry Potter och Hemligheternas Kammare i jämförelse med filmadaptionen med samma namn. Genom en semiotisk analys på två nivåer granskas karaktären för att se på vilka sätt karaktären Harry Potters personliga egenskaper och tankar har översatts och ändrats i förflyttningen från bok till film. I slutdiskussionen visas att Harry Potter har förändrats något i adaptionen, men hans personlighet framställs i slutändan mycket som densamma. Att karaktären innehar samma personlighet och påvisar samma egenskaper är viktigt för att adaptionen ska fungera och gör att själva berättelsen i adaptionen inte måste vara fullt trogen till originalet för att ge samma bild.

Abstract:

Det här är ett konstnärligt arbete om att skriva ledmotiv baserade på bokkaraktärer ur boken Uprooted av Naomi Novik. Jag analyserar soundtracken från filmerna Guldkompassen och Sagan om Ringen: Härskarringen som är baserade på böcker och använder den informationen till mitt egna skapande av sammanlagt 13 ledmotivsdelar till fyra karaktärer. Analyserna av varje films soundtrack går in på instrumentering, melodi, harmonik och tempo. Dessa analyser tillämpades sedan på de fyra karaktärerna och jag kunde då skapa mina egna ledmotiv baserade på deras personligheter i boken.

Abstract:

Netflix and other streaming services have grown immensely since they started offering online streaming. In this paper I present a correlation matrix using ticket sales at the domestic box office and the number of Netflix subscribers. They are shown to be negatively correlated with one another, supporting many previous researchers’ thoughts on the topic. I also show using two OLS regressions with data from movies released in 2006-2007 and 2017-2018 that being a part of a franchise has a stronger correlation with increased revenue in the latter model compared to the previous one. In the models one can also see that the general quality of a movie, as measured by IMDb rating, is associated with a higher increase in revenue in the latter model. I argue that this is due to consumers being inclined to watch what they perceive to be high-quality movies in the theaters in the latter model as they can conveniently watch movies of a poorer quality on their streaming service, an option that was not available to the same extent previously. I also argue that consumers are more willing to commit to going to the cinema for a franchise movie, especially in the Marvel cinematic universe, as they are often effects driven movies which are better experienced on a large screen. The budget variable is significant in both models, but the coefficient is much smaller in the second model. I argue that this is due to the fact that a higher budget is required for movies released in 2017-2018 to maintain the same level of revenue as in 2006 and 2007 due to the competition that have come from streaming services. However, I conclude that more research is necessary before drawing definite conclusions as the market for cinema is highly uncertain and difficult to estimate accurately.

Les travaux de recherche de cette thèse s'inscrivent dans le cadre de la sécurité par chaos des réseaux locaux sans fil, en particulier les réseaux de capteurs sans fil. L'originalité de cette thèse consiste à proposer des cryptosystèmes à base de chaos plus adaptés aux réseaux de capteurs, en termes de consommation d'énergie, que les algorithmes conventionnels et à réaliser une implémentation sur une plateforme réelle. Nous présentons en premier lieu un état de l'art des réseaux, les menaces, les contraintes limitant le processus de sécurité des informations ainsi que les principales techniques de cryptographie. Nous donnons un aperçu sur la théorie de chaos et nous validons l'aspect aléatoire de plusieurs suites chaotiques par les tests statistiques du NIST. Nous proposons ensuite des nouvelles méthodes de construction de S-Box chaotiques tout en prouvant leur robustesse contre les attaques traditionnelles. Nous proposons enfin un nouvel algorithme de cryptage d'image dédié au réseau de capteurs sans fil. La validation de nos contributions est effectuée par simulation et par des mesures expérimentales sur une plateforme de réseaux de capteurs réels (SensLab).

Abstract:

Dans cette étude des rapports entre le montage et l’idéologie dans le cinéma américain contemporain, (années 1990 - milieu des années 2000) l’objectif est de valoriser les liens entre ces deux entités et d’étudier les mécanismes qui les régissent. Le cinéma américain, compris comme un organisme vivant, a connu une grande mutation dans les années 1990, grâce aux nouvelles technologies. Presque tout devenant réalisable, le montage dans le cinéma américain se développe et s’impose, encore plus qu’avant, comme la forme qui permet au récit d’évoluer et au sens de se constituer. L’idéologie, quant à elle, conçue comme un système de représentation d’idées, un système global d’interprétation du monde, est comprise comme un principe fondamental inhérent au cinéma américain, presque au même titre que le montage. Cette étude s’intéresse aux différentes interactions entre les éléments filmiques mis en oeuvre à partir d’un « parti pris » idéologique sous-jacent et implicite dans la diégèse, en tentant de disséquer une construction filmique dans laquelle les implications idéologiques ne sont pas annoncées comme point de départ. L’étude du montage est complétée par celle des multiples figures l’entourant, soit le cadre, les effets spéciaux, la musique de film, l’espace et le temps et par celle de l’impact de ce montage sur les spectateurs. Enfin, cette étude se penchera sur le phénomène généré en 2004 par The Passion of the Christ et d’autres films, consacrant le retour, dans le cinéma américain, à un discours plus engagé dans lequel l’idéologie devient plus explicite, sans remettre en cause les acquis de la décennie précédente<br>In this study of the relationship between the editing and the ideology in the contemporary American cinema, (years 1990 - middle of the years 2000) the objective is to develop the bonds between these two entities and to study the mechanisms which govern them. The American cinema, understood like a living organism, knew a great change in the years 1990, thanks to new technologies. Almost everything becoming achievable, the editing in the American cinema develops into, even more than before, as a form which allows the story to evolve and the meaning to come out. The ideology, conceived as a system of representation of ideas, a total scheme of interpretation of the world, is understood as an fundamental principle inherent with the American cinema, almost as well as the editing. This study is interested in the various interactions between the filmic elements set to work from a subjacent and implicit ideological "parti-pris" in the diégèse, while trying to analyze a filmic construction in which the ideological implications are not announced preliminary. The study of the editing is completed by the analysis of the multiple figures surrounding it: the framework, the special effects, the film music, space and time and by the impact of this editing on the spectators. Finally, this study will consider the phenomenon generated in 2004 by The Passion of the Christ and other films, allowing the return, in the American cinema, to a more engaged speech in which the ideology becomes more explicit, without calling into question the assets of the previous decade

Abstract:

The intention of this thesis is to identify and analyze the cat woman archetype as a contemporary extension of the transgressive witch archetype, which rampantly appears over the course of cinema history, working as a signifier of a patriarchal society's fear of autonomous and subversive women. The character of Catwoman is the ultimate representation for this archetype on grounds of her visibility, longevity, and ability to return again and again. More importantly, Catwoman and her sisterhood of cat women work against male creators as a means of female empowerment through trickery. Within this thesis, key films of varying genres are drawn from throughout cinema history and analyzed in order to demonstrate the intertextual network of characters that make up the cat woman archetype, and the importance of the Catwoman character in her many forms.
