A plasmonic metal-insulator-metal waveguide filter consisting of one rectangular cavity and three silver baffles is numerically investigated using the finite element method and theoretically described by the cavity resonance mode theory. The proposed structure shows a simple shape with a small number of structural parameters that can function as a plasmonic sensor with a filter property, high sensitivity and figure of merit, and wide bandgap. Simulation results demonstrate that a cavity with three silver baffles could significantly affect the resonance condition and remarkably enhance the sens

The present study explored the efficiency of a four-chambered anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) as a cost-effective and sustainable method of organic pollutant and pathogen removal from domestic wastewater, under a range of environmental conditions. An ABR with a circular additional filter at the outlet pipe was constructed to treat wastewater from a residential colony of 108 households with an average inflow of 110 m3/day and a nominal hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20 h. Analysis of the chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen, sulfate and phosphate load, and total coliform removal for

Together with atmospheric and water pollution, noise pollution is threatening human society with vehicles constituting the major source of noise. The available literature on control measures (1, 2, 3) indicates purely reactive mufflers in general are of more use for fixed speed machinery and dissipative attenuators have the ability to filler out acoustic energies over a wide range of frequencies. This paper presents cm attempt made to use a combination of these major types of mufflers fitted in the exhaust line of a four stroke, twin cylinder stationary diesel engine to attenuate exhaust noise

Household type Johkasous which have a flow stabilization function were surveyed on their performance. The water level, flow velocity and SS were measured after the maximum flow entering the anaerobic filter chamber with or without flow stabilization operation. In operation without the flow stabilization, the flow peak directly reached the biofiltration chamber and the flow rate kept at 1 cm/sec during 3–4 min in the connection baffle between the two anaerobic chambers. This suggested the possibility of sludge transfer from the first anaerobic chamber. Moreover the increase of SS in the second

The necessity of two-stage (multi-cyclone-baffle) inlet air filters used for motor vehicle engines operating under dusty conditions was demonstrated. The advantages of a set of several dozen cyclones (multi-cyclone) used for filtering inlet air in the engines were shown. The problem of dust accumulation separated by the cyclones in the multi-cyclone dust collector and the necessity of its removal on a current basis were analyzed. Methods of removing dust from the dust collector by means of the QS suction flow were described. It was demonstrated that the most rational method of forcing the suct

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of irrigation water management techniques on the growth and yield parameters of madumbe (Colocasia esculenta) irrigated with anaerobic filter (AF) effluent. The irrigation water management treatments considered were alternate wetting and drying (AWD), continuous flooding irrigation (CFI) and wetting without flooding (WWF). It was hypothesized that irrigation techniques with anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) effluent have a significant effect on the growth and yield of madumbe. The effects of the treatments were significant (P < 0.05) on the number

Abstract The research developed a combined system in batch flow and in pilot scale for the treatment and reuse of urban effluents. The system was fed raw effluent from a university campus in Brazil and composed of four anaerobic reactors, three constructed wetlands (CWs) and an ozonation unit. The three sequential hybrid constructed wetlands were composed of a floating treatment wetland, an aerobic-anoxic baffled constructed wetland (CW) and a saturated vertifcal flow CW. Later, during the last trimester, weekly samples of the treated effluent were ozonated by bubbling with an application rate

In this paper, Cost-effectiveness of various straw pulp wastewater treatment technologies were compared in detail, moreover the separate and combined process of Coagulation Sedimentation, Anaerobic Baffled Reactor, Sequencing Batch Reactor and Biological Aerated Filter processes were researched. The test result has showed that when addition dosage of PAM and PAC is 4mg/L and 80mg/L in Coagulation Sedimentation separately, and ABR HRT is 10h, the biodegradability of the straw wastewater increased from 0.25 after pretreatment to about 0.45. As the best SBR HRT is 8h, the CODcr removal rate was a
