Abstract:
Studie představuje profesní a životní příběh překladatelky Marty Hellmuthové (1917– 1988), a to jednak v kontextu kulturních a politických dějin, jednak jako příspěvek k tzv. translator studies.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to determine the extent to which trout used fishways to swim past two power plants at Finsjö in River Emån. Two different methods of  collecting data were used, radiotelemetry to determine if fish find the fishways (attraction efficiency) and PIT-tags to measure the number of fish that passed through the fishways (passage efficiency). The study showed that passageefficiency, being 89 % at lower Finsjö and 100 % at upper Finsjö, was high compared to other similar studies. Attraction efficiency was 75 % at lower Finsjö and 59 % at upper Finsjö, which indicates that the fish have difficulty finding the fishway entrances, particularly at upper Finsjö.</p>

Abstract:
The master thesis describes the Finnish-Russian relations after 1995, that means the year when Finland joined the EU. The current mutual relations are considered to be excellent even in spite of Finland's negative experience from the past. The aim of the thesis is to analyze Finnish-Russian relations and to outline their individual fields. The question is whether the excellent relations will be continued or if there are any factors that could impair the development of the relations. The question might also be to which extent the experience from the past could determine some of the issues, such as Finland's joining the NATO or the Karelian question.

Abstract:
<p>Denna uppsats behandlar invandrade finska romers identitetsbygge i Sverige. Intervjuerna ägde rum i september 2005. This thesis investigates the construction of identity among immigrated Finnish Roma in Sweden. I have concluded three qualitative interviews, with a 30-year old man and two women, 45 and 50 years old. The purpose of these interviews has been to investigate in what fashion these individuals, all members of the Finnish Roma minority in Sweden, have constructed their identity and how their schooling has contributed to this.</p><p>I first got in contact with the man and via him a was able to reach the women and interview them too. All three were born in Finland but moved to Sweden during childhood or adolescence. The informants were among other things asked to define who is Roma and who is not, all according to a model that can be viewed at Romano Missio's Finnish website (http://www.romanomissio.fi/projektit/kalvot/002_kuka_on_romani.pdf ).</p><p>My investigation makes evident that changes are in progress in the Finnish Roma community in Sweden. An increasing number of Roma are interested in higher education. Youngsters seek contact with people from other societal groups and their identity is constructed increasingly in interaction with other cultures. Internal Roma issues are now more openly discussed in mainstream media in Finland. According to my research society lacks in understanding for and knowledge about Roma culture. Not much is known about the conditions under which Roma youngsters live and the fact that these young people do not get the same freedom of choice that is granted for others the same age.</p>

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to illustrate and analyze what the socializing process of the Finn ish woman looks like ant to discuss what contributes to the feeling of inclusion, or the feeling of exclusion. The questions asked in the study aim to classify what influenced the decision to move to Sweden. Furthermore they aim to describe what the life in Sweden has been like and what the socialization process for the Finnish woman  looks like. Finally I will study what kind of impact the change of life has had for the feeling of inclusion and for social identity.   Initially the Finnish immigration to Sweden, through time, is described and then earlier stud ies relation to this study is accounted for. Then the role of social pedagogy in this study is presented. My theoretical concepts are Giddens theory regarding socialization and socializa tions processes and Jenkins theory regarding identity and identity processes. I have prepared the concepts by breaking them down to their core with the purpose to analyze how the con cepts coincide and interact. My means of approach to the area is then accounted for in the method chapter. I have chosen a narrative method and have studies stories of five women , about what their lives in Finland was like, what affected the decision to move to Sweden and what has their lives been like in Sweden. By using a self made process chart for analyze I have charted different themes from the stories I collected in Finnish. These themes have then been connected to my theoretical concepts and earlier studies related to this one. The primary reason for the women to move to Sweden was work. Also search for adventure, the dream of welfare and the duty to follow their husbands is mentioned as reasons. Mostly the life in Sweden is perceived as good and only a few have negative experiences, which usu ally is due to the own attitude regarding the move. The women have experiences of socializa tion in the areas of work, housing, language and communication and association with others. Changes in the identity of the women, have appeared due to changes in context and values or when they have been positively acknowledged by others and finally in situations when the acknowledgment has defaulted, after which an identity crises occurs, which culminates in a changes identity.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate how pedagogues in preschool can support children with Finnish as mother tongue in their language development in Finnish. Previous studies in the field of language development stresses the importance of the child's capability to understand and to make itself understood. Through the perspective of translanguaging, code switching is a natural part of a bilingual person's language, although the language is constantly adapted to the linguistic situation. In qualitative interviews, pedagogues in a Finnish preschool in Sweden described their perception of how code switching affect the language development, how the language development is affected when code switching is not selectable, and how contextual attitudes affect the tendency for code switching. The result showed that code switching increases the possibilities to express oneself, that a well-developed bilingualism has importance for the identity, and that social norms implies consequences to the individual's language practice.

Abstract:
The worlds largest exodus of children is considered the transfer of circa 70,000 children from Finland to Sweden from 1939 to 1945. The experience of the Finnish war children contains a distinctive wealth of knowledge which should not be lost. It is important from a social and cultural-anthropological point of view to pass on this collection of experiences without misrepresentation and to interpret the material to the best of my ability. Childhood experiences have a great psychological importance on how an adult his/her life. When a person's social world changes, their psychological world is also threatened. This is what happened to the Finnish war children. To be a foster child, to be a war child, to be a Finnish war foster child entails something very distinctive. Such a child has experienced separation and break-up from the biological family, confrontation with the foster family or orphanage, sometimes difficult experiences from the war itself and a change of language and culture, all of which can be very traumatic. The Finnish war children were "child refugees" and their experiences must be understood on this basis. Finnish war children represent a unique event in our chaotic world. Therefore, one can say that my interpretation has a limited scope. I cannot refer to the broader "immigrant debate." My research is of a special character and my material is unique! In our world there are countless child refugees, children who live in extremely exposed conditions and who have lost their parents. About the Finnish war children's experience it has been said that "it may not happen again". This is a very careless statement - what do we know of the world's future? No, this may not happen again. But it can happen again. The Finnish war children remember experiences which are frightening and fascinating, but which are also important for us to understand and learn from in order to be able to deal with children who are in that most exposed of situations - refugees from war and persecution, but without the protection of a parent.<br>digitalisering@umu

Abstract:
Tyto změny umožnily silný rozvoj informačních a komunikačních technologií.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between Finnish and non-Finnish by-names in the church registers of Nedertorneå in the nineteenth century. The investigation shows that the by-names are rather heterogeneous in character and a portion of them consists of elements from different languages. The by-names are divided into Finnish, non-Finnish and parental names, i.e. patronymics and metro-nymics. In order to study the development within the by-name stock in the rural communities of Nedertorneå and in the town of Haparanda, the numbers of Finnish and non-Finnish by-names and of parental names (including comibnations with these bynames), found within the population over the age of 20, are calculated at approximately 20-year intervals during the period 1825-1886. The investigation shows that the by-name stock in Nedertorneå is far more stable than in Haparanda. Individual changes of by-name from one selected year to the next are also taken up, together with certain causes and their possible effect on the changes in the byname stock for the population. By-name changes seem to be more common in Nedertorneå than in Haparanda. However, no real tendencies towards Swedicized forms emerge before the 1890s and the name changes tend rather to have social causes. Finally, an attempt is made to relate the number of Finnish and non-Finnish bynames (including combinations with these by-names) to certain population figures for men and women for the different selected years. The instability in Haparanda's byname stock depends on the faster population growth in the town. The value of various church registers for investigating by-names in the nineteenth century is also discussed.<br>digitalisering@umu
