Abstract:
Introduction: A portable fire extinguisher is one of the effective and active fire protection tool equipment used to extinguish fires at the beginning of a fire. The occurrence of a fire does not immediately become a big fire but it is starts from a small fire. This small fire is perfectly extinguished by using a portable fire extinguisher. Installation and maintenance of a portable fire extinguisher is one of the systems for fire prevention. However, it is important to know that a good and effective implementation must be balanced with proper installation and maintenance in accordance with existing regulations so that later it can function properly. This study aims to evaluate the application of the installation and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers at PT Y Indonesia. Methods: This research used descriptive research method with cross sectional approach. The data were obtained by observation using observation sheets and measurements directly in the field using a meter. Results: PT Y Indonesia has a policy regarding the installation and maintenance of APAR but its application has not fully met the requirements except for the color, pressure and distance between APAR. Conclusion: The implementation of APAR installation at PT Y Indonesia has not been in accordance with the relevant regulations except for APAR color, and the distance between APAR and implementation of maintenance is only done once a month without conducting detailed inspection with a period of 6 months and 12 months. Keywords: installation, maintenance, portable fire extinguisher

Abstract:
Households are categorized as exceptions in the Fire Services Act; oftentimes, the ‘Golden Time’ is missed at the early stages of a fire, resulting in loss of life. As such, due to the high number of deaths caused by household fires, the Korean government amended the Fire Services Act to make it mandatory for all detached houses to be equipped with a fire extinguisher from 2017 onwards. Only 34.8% of households were properly equipped with a fire extinguisher, according to the 2018 factual survey on fire extinguishing facilities in households conducted by the Fire Department. Fire extinguishers are crucial in case of fire but many households avoid them because they are red and have a rough aesthetic, which does not suit the household environment. There is now a need for diverse simple fire extinguisher designs so that they can be used as interior décor in the household in the day-to-day while being available for putting out a fire when necessary. If fire extinguishers have designs that go well with any household space like other decorative ornaments, this will greatly increase consumers’ motivation to purchase them. It is greatly anticipated that various companies will work on developing designs for fire extinguishers to commercialize them for households in the future.

Abstract:
According to fire statistics analysis of the nation's fire department between 2015–2019, the most common cause of fire was electrical fire. As reported, 47,135 fires were caused by electricity, 22,852 were caused by mechanical causes, and 871 were caused by gas leakages. In this study, the fire adaptability of microcapsulated fire extinguishing agents was tested against small space electrical fires, such as electrical distribution boards. The tests showed that the fire extinguishing agent inside the capsule was released after initial fire contact and the fire of n-heptane was extinguished within 4.48 seconds (on average). Therefore, the KFI small space B-level fire extinguishing test by the Korea Institute of Fire and Industry met the criteria that the fire was extinguished and did not reoccur within 90 s after the end of the preliminary combustion. In addition, this fire extinguisher (agent) dramatically improved the volume of existing cylinder-type fire extinguishers for small spaces. However, there are no national fire safety codes (NFSCs) for this agent. Therefore, it is necessary to enact fire safety standards for this agent for smooth-field applications.

Abstract:
The fire fighting equipments used for fight forest and grassland fire of China are mainly small two-stroke gasoline-powered portable wind fire-extinguishers owing to these areas are located in the more remote and inaccessible, where generally stay away from water. The main drawback of the wind fire-extinguisher is that it would lower the efficiency of power attributed to overheating of the two-stroke gasoline engine in the long process of firefighting, which will lead to decline the output speed and volumetric flow of fire extinguishing wind drived by the turbine when fire ambient temperature is high in the spring and summer. If this situation occurs, it will reduce efficiency of its fire fighting, what is more the adverse effects of wind to help the fire rather than put out the fire because the output of the extinguishing wind speed and volumetric flow is too small. In order to avoid the occurrence of such adverse effects and improve the extinguishing effect of fire extinguishers in the long process of firefighting, a program which use CO2 coordinate with wind fire-extinguisher to put out a fire was proposed in this paper, and the structure, characteristics of operation and precautions of the CO2 fire-extinguisher were described detailly.

Abstract:
This report revolves around a project for Boliden which is a thesis work for a master in engineering within industrial design engineering. This project had a primary focus of developing a new mount for fire extinguishers that will be suspended on vehicles in Boliden's mines. The foundation of the project was an accident in Boliden's mine Aitik where a fire extinguisher exploded due to damages caused by the vehicle mount in combination with vibrations. The objective of the project is to identify the main problem with the vehicle mounts used today in Boliden's mines and solve it. The process used in this project is a fairly standard process that is separated into four phases; Context immersion, Ideation, Conceptual design and Final design. The last two stages focused on prototyping and testing to finalize the design, whereas the beginning of the process was trying to get a grasp of the problem. This included understanding the unique environment of the mines as well as getting to the bottom of the problem with the vehicle mount. Interviews and observations were conducted during a visit to Boliden's mine, Renström, in Skellefteå to investigate the problem. The conclusions from the Context immersion was that the main problem with the vehicle mounts was that they were not adapted for the mining conditions at all. A large number of vibrations and a lack of vibration damping for the mount was the leading cause for the damages on the fire extinguisher. This caused the vehicle mount to fail and in the process also damage the fire extinguisher. The solution to this problem turned out to be a more robust product using a stronger material with higher damping to suspend the fire extinguisher. This made the vehicle mount cope with the vibrations in a better way. A quick release mechanism was also implemented that assists with the vibration durability as well as make the fire extinguisher easy and fast to release. The fast release, as well as the ease of use, makes the vehicle mount adapted for emergencies as well.  The durability and the use of the new vehicle mount were reassured by a vibration analysis made in NX 12, as well as a short usability test.<br>Den här rapporten behandlar ett projekt för Boliden vilket också är ett examensarbete inom civilingenjör teknisk design med inriktning mot produktutveckling.

Abstract:
This degree project is divided into two subprojects. Both of the projects are executed for Fogmaker, a company that specialises in designing and installing fire suppression systems in engine compartments. These projects are executed according to product development methods. The first subproject described in this report is about designing a handle for the transportation of a 35kg weighing fire extinguisher. The handle functions as a safety seal and as a grip that makes it easier and safer to lift the fire extinguisher. A casted zinc T-handle is the best solution based on cost and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis. An FMECA (Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis) and a FEM (Finite Element Method) study have been performed to verify the design. A zinc prototype of the safety handle has been manufactured and is ready for testing. It is expected that 10.000 handles will be produced every year once this prototype is approved by Fogmaker. The second subproject concerns a connection hub placed on a pressurized bottle. In order to make the fire suppression system more reliable this component needs to be redesigned. An external company with the required expertise in hydraulic systems will develop the connection hub in cooperation with Fogmaker, based on the conceptual designs described in this report. An FMECA of the new connection hub concept proves this redesign increases the safety of the system. The overlying subject of both of these projects is the safety of the fire suppression system. Thanks to the accomplishment of both project, the system has become safer and more reliable.

Abstract:

Currently, many companies remanufactured products, driven by economic or environmental benefits, or by the force of law. Performing materials management and inventory in this environment with peculiar characteristics efficiently, it is necessary to contain waste with excess inventory or lack of material for production. In addition, the purchasing department holds an important position in most organizations, as parts, components and supplies can represent 40-60% of the final value of sales of any product. Thus, the objective of this work is the proposition and implementation of inventory management models in a remanufacturing company of fire extinguishers and analyze the efficiency of these through the expenses accumulated during one quarter. Based on preliminary analysis of the historical consumption series of selected materials, three propositions were suggested. The results show that when we analyzed the implementation of the proposals in material individually, there were cost reductions and better regularity in buying some, and in others, the proposals have not brought benefits. With the results, it is suggested that the application of the propositions, even partially for some materials, can help to increase the company's competitiveness with the availability of capital that was previously allocated to the purchase of these.<br>A remanufatura pode ser definida como o processo industrial onde produtos desgastados, quebrados ou usados, são restaurados obtendo uma nova vida útil.

Abstract:
The computational modeling of a novel condensed phase aerosol based fire extinguisher is considered in this study to assess its operational details and performance. A solid propellant is present inside the canister which is ignited using piezoelectric actuators producing hot fire extinguishing gases. The cooling of these hot gases is facilitated by a matrix of chemically active cooling pellets placed along the canister which condenses hot gas and discharges solid aerosol particulates. The initial experimental investigation of the extinguisher carried out at the premises of an industrial partner showed that improper cooling of the hot gases by pellets can lead to high temperature of the effluent gases and sparks at the exit. A decision was made to use modeling to develop better understanding of the physics of the extinguisher performance and develop improved experimental procedure using computational fluid dynamics model. A one dimensional computation has been established initially in the study by solving Euler’s equations using the Finite Volume Method. Based on the results obtained, high fidelity three-dimensional computation of the problem, by solving the multi-component combustion gas flow inside the extinguisher, using Navier Strokes equations has been done. While detailed chemical kinetics are not accounted for in the process, initial experimental estimates of these processes are used in the simulations to account for the effects on dynamics of the process. The computed results show how improper cooling by the pellet region may lead to hot spots in the extinguisher. These results will be used in the improved experimental design.
