The primary aim of this study is to investigate the fire safety protection and prevention system installed in six randomly selected office buildings. The method adopted in achieving the study objective includes literature review, interview, and physical inspection/observation. Thus, a multiattribute evaluation approach was adopted to establish adequate, inadequate, and no fire safety systems, used the pre-designed checklist from NFPA, 2008, NBC, 2006, and NFSC, 2

Large quantities of solid municipal waste containing a variety of flammable substances, that are disposed of in sanitary and non-sanitary landfills and even illegal dump sites, usually entail a high risk of fire. The level of risk is increased by the presence of methane which is released by municipal waste decomposition. The number of landfill fires varies depending on the morphological composition of the waste, ignition sources, meteorological conditions, time of year, as well as fire protection measures. Abstract During the construction of the Copenhagen Metro from 1996 until the inauguration between 2002 and 2007 corrosion monitoring probes were installed and embedded in the concrete structures. One hundred and seventy sets of corrosion monitoring probes were installed each comprising 4 mild steel electrodes; a counter electrode (platinised titanium), reference electrode, temperature sensor and a reinforcement connection. The overall objective of the installation is to have a prewarning system for corrosion in the concrete cover, so as to spot the onset of corrosion at reinforcement depth. Th

This report explores the impact of policy interventions and social/cultural factors on crowd behaviour at Reading Festival from 2000 to 2024, examining how crime and antisocial behaviour have evolved over time. While measures such as eviction policies, safeguarding, fire bans, and inclusivity campaigns like #LookOutForEachother have had positive effects, perceived gaps remain in security enforcement and drug prevention. Social and environmental factors, including media portrayals and festival culture shifts, have also played a role in changing attendee behaviour.

Abstract:
This study was designed to be an initial step to investigate the potential of low flow nozzles as part of a retrofit flashover prevention system in residential homes with limited water supplies. Not all homes have water supplies that can meet the needs of a residential sprinkler system. Current alter- natives, such as including a supplemental tank and pump, increase the cost of the system. These homes could benefit from an effective fire safety system with lower water supply requirements. The experiments in this study were conducted in a steel test structure which consisted of a fire room atta

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted homeless populations and service workers, especially within homeless shelter/hostel settings. To date, there have been few evidence syntheses examining outbreaks of COVID-19 among both homeless shelters residents and service workers, nor has there been a critically engaged summary of relevant infection control and prevention (IPAC) measures. This scoping review offers a timely and much-needed synthesis of COVID-19 prevalence within homeless shelters and a review of current and pertinent IPAC measures. Methods: We conducted a sco

Many authors have deplored the scarcity of evaluations that assess the impact and effectiveness of programmes and policies in the field of Counter-Terrorism (CT) and Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE). This makes it difficult to understand which efforts to address violent extremism have had positive results, and what measures and methods have been effective in identifying impact. This policy brief aims to provide policymakers and practitioners in the CT and P/CVE field with the necessary background to integrate monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in their work.
