The literature available on financial aid addresses how aid promotes access and equal educational opportunity by enabling students to matriculate into college. The literature also discusses how financial aid impacts studentsâ ability to persist to degree completion. However, there seems to be little research on how financial aid affects studentsâ lives while they are in college. The present study attempted to address this gap in the existing literature by examining the differences in quality of life between college students receiving financial aid and those not receiving such aid.<p> For

An increase in health literacy can have a dramatic impact upon community members’ quality of life, life expectancy, and patient outcomes, as well as the successful advancement of the country. Townships and informal settlements surrounding Cape Town have limited access to timely health services, including life-saving emergency care. In recent years a community-based e

Content: Acid attacks are a global problem: from 2011 to 2016 there were 1,464 incidents involving a corrosive substance in London alone. The most common chemicals used in these attacks are sulfuric, nitric and hydrochloric acids. Concentrated solutions of strongly alkaline substances including sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite are also used. Current first-aid advice suggests diluting the exposed area with water and transfer to a hospital for further treatment. An immediate neutralisation treatment is avoided as incorrect identification of the corrosive could worsen the damage. In addi

In cases involving the rescue of people in need of immediate medical care, it is often thought that the responsibility to save the lives of the imperilled falls to advanced professionals, such as paramedics, doctors, nurses, etc. This tells only part of the story, however, as in many cases the first point of contact for a person under duress is non-professional bystanders – average people with often little to no training in first aid or medicine. If the first point of contact is the bystander, do these bystanders have an obligation to help? Even if we assume that it is good to help people in n

Abstract:
This thesis aims to understand the Lao experience of development assistance in relation to three contemporary aid issues: the influence of aid on governance; the impact of the 'Poverty Reduction Strategy' (PRS) approach, a major aid reform; and the influence of growing Chinese aid. The thesis argues that aid from traditional donors has made an important contribution to improving some (though only some) areas of governance in Laos, and helped the country graduate from 'fragile state' status. This finding challenges the more negative views on the impact of aid on governance in general of aid t
