Full textThe core concept in the project includes a proposal for urban public open space and green structure planning for the city of Nynäshamn. The work is concentrated to give form to the outdoor public space in order to increase the accessibility and availability of green areas and parks. The proposal aims to create valuable places focused on safety and comfort. But also to give form to public rooms for experences which the citizens voluntary seeks and participates if the physical environment is good. The identity of a city constitutes a great deal by its urban environment. Therefor design and architecture helps creating a uniform identity which can be reflected in the urban public spaces of the city.

Paris 11, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002PA112157.
Full textWe study a version of the correspondence between branching processes and random walks, that was discovered by Kendall. Le Gall and Le Jan generalized it in order to extend the brownian snake towards superprocesses with more general branching mechanism than the quadratic one. We establish, in more general hypothesis, a deterministic one-to-one map between the labelled random trees describing the genealogy of a branching process and the paths of a queue; this map transports the law which controls the history of the population in the law of the queue. The individuals in the population we study are labelled by their type and longevity. If one conditions with respect to the individuals not in the u's progeny, then u gives birth at exponential times to children bearing independent and identically distributed labels, the conditional laws depending only upon the type of u's ancestry. The queue is obtained via a deterministic depth first exploration of the genealogy of the population. This queue is a more general object than a Lévy process with no negative jumps. Its properties may be studied with the only aid of the corresponding properties of the trees. Thus, we show how the branching property of the tree along branches yields the Markov property of the queue. In this regard, we replace the time with a parameter (the branch) close to the genealogy of the tree and we prove the strong Markov property of the queue in these new coordinates. From this one gets the strong Markov property in real time, because optional times are optional branches. This technique requires a detailed analysis of the relations between the real time indexing the queue and the genealogical structure of the associated random tree

Full textBackground: Registered nurses is a profession with long tradition and the profession has undergone many changes over time. In Sweden, today, nursing education leads to an academic degree but also provides a vocational degree. Profession as a nurse requires much of the practitioner for this to be considered competent to maintain credentials. The path from novice to expert is long while the lack of nurses is large and many choose to leave the profession. Aim: The aim was to describe how newly graduated nurses’ experience their first year as professional nurses. Method: A literature-based study was conducted in which ten qualitative studies were retrieved from the databases Cinahl, Proquest and Pubmed. The studies were subjected to quality assurance and Friberg's five-step analysis. Result: Through the analysis, the results of the articles were compiled into a new result, in which three themes, and nine subthemes were formed. The main themes were “unreasonable expectations about the new profession”, “the first year - a reality shock” and “the need for support in the workplace”. Conclusion: The first year of occupational nurses was experienced a difficult period and was lined with feelings of unpreparedness for what the profession meant and expectations of the profession that did not really correspond. The need for support was considered important for transition from education to professional nurse to be successful. The workplace of the graduates graduated was crucial for whether the nurse came to stay in the profession or not.

Full textThe purpose of the study is to investigate how some teachers in primary school describes multilingual students’ obstacles and opportunities in their second language development in Swedish and try to understand how the teachers work with these students' language development. This study contributes with knowledge and understanding of: second language learners’ language development, their dual assignment to both learn the language and content, how we in education can remove barriers and allow a good language- and knowledge-development. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four teachers who together represent three school areas. The study is qualitative with a socio-cultural approach in which language, the gear tools, are the focus. In summary, the results show that the teachers put great emphasis in teaching words, concepts and understanding. Time and dedication is put on: creating relations with the students, planning and conduct up language teaching prevention, which they see benefits and are important for second language learners’ language development in Swedish. This result is also indicated in other studies that I have read. Multilingual pupils mean students learning to master more than one language. The terms First language and Second language shortened L1 and L2. Where L stands for language and the figure is about the order the child learns the language, and has nothing to do with mastery level (Abrahamsson & Bylund, 2012).

Full textA high proportion of repetitions is one of the distinctive features of child-directed speech (CDS). Research has shown that the percentage of repetitions in CDS varies over time depending on the age of the child. In addition, it is suggested that repetitions in CDS correlate with child language development. The aim of the study was to investigate the possible variations over time in the percentage of repetitions in CDS during the child’s first year, and to try to find a connection between repetitions and the child’s language development. Repetitions in parent speech in ten parent-child dyads as the children were 3, 6, 9 and 12 months old were investigated quantitatively. Exact and varying self-repetitions and exact and varying repetitions of the child’s utterances were investigated and compared to the same children’s linguistic level at 18 months of age. The results showed that the percentage of exact self-repetitions was more than 30 percent lower at the age of 12 months than at 3, 6 and 9 months of age. The total percentage of repetitions of the child’s utterances increased more than four times from 3 to 12 months of age. A connection was found between the repetitions during the child’s first year and the child’s language development, indicating that a low percentage of exact self-repetitions at 6 to 9 months of age correlated with a high vocabulary at 18 months of age. A link between the expressive language of the child and the repetitions in parents’ speech was suggested.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to look at first-line managers engaged in a new role with 50 percent still working in the production and 50 percent working as a manager. The managers have no experience of leadership and are internal recruited to the position as a first line manager after a reorganization one year ago. The essay took form from nine interviews and the data were analyzed using a basic qualitative research. The result shows that the manager experiences of internal recruitment are positive. It gives them a deeper understanding of the authority, the work tasks and their coworkers. The possibilities of development are an important thing an employer should offer the employees. A leader with experience from the organization has better conditions to be a successful leader.

Full textAbstract "Welcome home again" – a study of immigrant women’s identity changes in the Swedish society. In our research, we intend to highlight the identity formations and changes of young immigrant women. These young women live under the influence of two cultures where their belonging to their “origin” is often determined by an essentialist approach, which indicates that it is defined by a common origin and a specific cultural belonging. Yet, the women in our study suggest that their identity is shaped according to a constructionist approach, where the cultural identity is not determined by a common belonging; instead, their identity tend to change as it is constantly reconstructed in accordance with their (social) condition. We have made a selection, where we have chosen active women that have worked hard to integrate in the Swedish society, rather than the "traditional housewife". The purpose of our study is to explore, and thus understand, how these women perceive themselves, how the society perceives their identity, and how their identity changes. We have decided to proceed from different theoretical starting-points, such as integration, identity, cultural identity, dual identities, prejudices, inclusion and exclusion, that will be applied in our analysis of the interviews. By applying a qualitative method, our intention is to answer the following research questions: How do these women perceive their own identity? How do people in their surroundings perceive their identity, according to the women themselves? How does the identity change in different contexts? Do the women feel integrated in the Swedish society or do they feel excluded? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having dual identities and a single identity? Key words: first-generation immigrants, integration, identity, cultural identity, dual identities, prejudices, inclusion and exclusion.

Full textThis master of science research treats the Crew Scheduling Problem (CSP), as part of the airlines operational planning. The main aim of the CSP is to assign a set of tasks to crew members, considering the labor regulations, safety rules and policies of companies, such that the crew cost is minimal. The CSP is divided into two subproblems, solved sequentially: Crew Pairing Problem (CPP) and Crew Rostering Problem (CRP). First, CPP provides a set of pairings that covers all the planned flights. Then, in the CRP, the rosters, encompassing the pairings and other activities such as rest periods, alert duties, reserve duties, training times and vacations, are assigned to the crew members. This decomposition is justified by the combinatorial nature of the CSP, but it not incorporates the crew members availabilities and preferences in both subproblems (CPP and CRP), generating extra costs related to conflicts that arise during the assignment of rosters to the crew members in the CRP. Besides, the costs estimations adopted in the CPP does not have a global character, since the real cost of the global schedule can be only obtained after the assignment of the rosters. The state of the art involves the integrated solution of CSP, where the CPP does not need to be solved, thus providing a better estimated cost and a better schedule quality, considering crew costs and also crew members availabilities and preferences globally. The problem, however, is NP-Hard. Therefore, the methodology proposed in this master of science research aims to obtain an integrated solution of the CSP, through an hybrid algorithm genetic associated with a depth-first search procedure, taking into account the Brazilian legislation. The methodology was tested, with success, to solve instances related a real network of a Brazilian airline.

Full textResearch concerning efficient markets are divided into two camps; the one hand, claims that the market is fully efficient and it is not possible to create any kind of excess returns. The other side argues the contrary that only historical information are reflected in today’s prices. Short term, there is some inefficiency and most recognize that the market contain anomalies The purpose is to investigate whether there exist indications regarding flows of information to the Swedish stock market suggesting a semi-strong form or strong form of efficiency. We start from three methodological statements; starting point, the research approach and epistemological beliefs. A deductive quantitative methodology is used, and we apply the method of event study. We find evidence for the existence of systematic errors in the market in terms of flows of information in the form of stock recommendations. The results suggest that the Swedish stock market is not of the strong efficient form and in one case out of four, we find that it does not possess the semi-strong form.

Full textThe aim of this study was to investigate how psychologists experience the creation of their profession during the first year of practice. We used “Grounded Theory” as research method. We interviewed 14 psychologists and found some central themes which were frequently described. The material from the interviews let us know that the social interaction with others had an effect on their own processes in becoming a psychologist. The material generated a theory that shows how the psychologist, during the first year of practice, is part in a meeting and an interaction with organization, experiences, professional development and the individual person. We also exposed a process model that revealed five processes that interact during the first year of practice. These processes were a reflection process, an emotional process, a professional role process, a learning process and a professional identity process. Finally, we used the quality assessment method of respondent validation to confirm the findings discovered.

Prices of financial contracts vary due to two major factors namely market risk and credit risk. Market risk is the risk that the value of a financial contract will decrease due to changes in market factors, these factors can be reduced by diversification into alternative assets classes. Credit risk is the risk that a person or an organisation will fail to make a payment that they have promised. It is a consensus that effective credit risk analysis is essential for investors seeking to determine whether a firm has the financial ability to meet its financial obligations. This study is primarily focused on the credit risk component. This study provides a detailed overview of past research in the area of credit risk modelling for defaultable debt instruments. The study mentions strengths, shortcomings and the recent advancement in the field of credit risk modelling. It also provides a review of commonly used model namely: the Merton model (1974), the first-passage-time model (1976), the two-state model and Jarrow-Lando-Turnbull model (1997). In the second part, we introduce catastrophe bonds by explaining their definitions and structure. The event of a pay-out from a catastrophe bond after a catastrophe event is treated by investors like a credit default. We will therefore extend the use of quantitative credit risk model to catastrophe bonds.

Full textBackground: The nursing profession is a profession with complexity where the professional nurses must have knowledge and understanding, skills and abilities, judgment and approach, to be able to lead and be responsible for good and safe patient care. Approximately 5000 nurses graduate every year in Sweden. Nursing students approaching graduation experienced mixed feelings. Both a delight to soon be finished nursing while concern was expressed about not possessing the skills enough for the role, as well as an uncertainty to work independently and be responsible for decisions in patient-related health issues. After two years in the profession approximately 30 % of the newly graduated nurses choose to leave the profession. Aim: The aim was to gain a deeper understanding of how the newly graduated nurses experience their first year in the professional clinical work. Method: The method used is a literature review based on eleven articles consisting of two with mixed method, one of qualitative design and seven with quantitative study design with Benner's (1984) theory from Novis to Expert as support for discussion of the results. Results: Four major themes emerged: Role Expectations, Work Culture and Environment, Development of expertise and Focus shift. Subthemes to Role Expectations is Uncertainty and Chaos. Subthemes to Work Culture are Environment's Introduction and Mentoring. The newly graduated nurses had expectations about the nursing role that led to a terrifying experience in clinical practice. Positive experiences of the graduate nurses were associated with having a good supervisor and a supportive work environment. After practicing the profession for nearly a year, the newly graduated nurses experienced satisfaction with the development of the professional skill. During the first six to twelve months the newly graduated nurses concentrated their energy on getting to know the environment and receive acceptance from colleagues. When security grew in the nursing role, the nurse shifted the focus from their own needs to the patient's needs. Positive experiences of the newly graduated nurses were associated with having a good supervisor and a supportive work environment. Discussion: The results were discussed with Benners theory. The results showed that the majority of the newly graduated nurses did not perceive themselves ready to act independently, manage and organize care, and felt a need for more empirical experience to handle the nursing role. The newly graduated nurses stated a need for support from an experienced nurse, in which Benners agrees and describes in her theory. Experience support of colleagues and other nurses with more experience was extremely important factors for the newly graduates health and development of competence, but most of the studies showed that newly graduated nurses felt that they lacked support. As the competence increased the newly graduated nurse experienced that their previous focus on getting acceptance from colleagues was replaced by a focus on the patient and their care. According to Benners theory the newly graduated nurses concentrate on their own development and guidelines, which can cause the newly graduated nurse to lack focus on the patient.
