Abstract:
First-In-First-Out cores (FIFOs) are memory storage elements that are used in digital systems for buffering data through a system for later processing. This paper presents the design and implementation of a General Purpose FIFO Core which allows adjustment of the capacity along with the size of each data word. Status indicators were provided to indicate whether or not the FIFO was empty, half-full, or full. The number of data words stored in the FIFO was also indicated by designated output ports of the system. A status flag was also available to indicate when the size reached a predetermined threshold value. A separate interface was provided that allowed the data at any address to be accessed for reading. It was also possible to write a data word to the back of the FIFO while another data word was read from the front simultaneously. The FSM-D architectural model was applied to the design of the FIFO Core and the implementation was done in VHDL using the Xilinx ISE 14.7. The implemented core was simulated using ISim Logic Simulator of the Xilinx ISE platform, and it was found that the system core behaved as specified by the test cases.

Abstract: This paper deals with the designing and verification of first in first out (fifo) using verilog. A FIFO is a memory queue which controls the data flow between two modules. It has the capacity to trigger different flags according to the status of the FIFO such has empty fifo status, half read fifo status, half written fifo status, full fifo status. Both the reading and writing operation can be performed simultaneously as it has dual port memory. After the completion of designing and simulating it on xilinx vivado this report also covers the verification carried out in modelsim. A detailed discussion on the architecture of each module that is writing module, reading module and memory array along with the various test benches and waveforms of simulation and verification is included in the paper.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to solve the problem of screen-printing T-shirt shops. For manual screen printing t-shirt shops, customers often have to visit the store in person or contact them via chat or phone, often encountering the following issues when ordering t-shirts: B. Irregular orders for those who have placed an order in advance or who have been waiting for a long time. One way to solve the queuing problem is the FIFO algorithm. FIFO algorithms are methods for organizing, processing, and manipulating basic data structures in computer systems. The FIFO algorithm phases in this study begin with the data preparation phase, the Gantt cart process, and finally his FIFO wait time. The result of the FIFO stage translates into creating applications using the Java programming language, Android Studio, and the FireBase database. The results of this study can be applied to his FIFO algorithm for customer queues in ordering T-shirts. A t-shirt ordering application was tested using the white box method by running the test case in four passes. All tests passed, so you can use the ordering application based on the FIFO algorithm.

Abstract:
Surabaya locomotive warehouse is one part of the company PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) as a place to store spare parts for repair and maintenance purposes, especially locomotives. The implementation of these inspections and repairs, of course, requires spare parts to facilitate the maintenance process which generally spare parts are placed in storage or warehouses. The problem in the Surabaya locomotive warehouse is that the arrangement of spare parts for bin boxes for each type of group is not always fixed so that the search becomes a bit hampered. This study aims to review the repair of bin box spare parts placement on a regular basis by using the First-In First-Out (FIFO) approach to sort bin box spare parts based on their movement flow. Based on the results of the analysis, the classification of bin boxes in each type of spare parts rack group based on the flow of movement in sequence is fast moving, medium moving, and slow moving. In the fast moving spare parts bin boxes are placed on the bottom row of shelves, bin boxes that have medium moving spare parts are placed on the second and third rows of shelves. Meanwhile, bin boxes that have slow-moving spare parts will be placed on the top shelf. After classifying the spare parts in the bin box, an addressing area is made on each row of the rack to determine the location of the spare part position.

Abstract:
Computational efficiency and first in, first out (FIFO) are both important issues in applications such as dynamic traffic assignment. This paper first shows by example the FIFO properties of a computationally efficient commodity-based kinematic wave (CKW) model of network traffic flow. After the development of measurements of FIFO violation among commodities in location and time on the basis of the misplacement of vehicles in total and commodity traffic, it is argued theoretically that numerical CKW solutions converge to FIFO ones. Then, with numerical examples, it is shown that FIFO violation in CKW solutions is a function of the simulation time and the number of commodities but decreases with decreasing cell lengths, even for infinite number of commodities. Finally, the possible implications of this study are discussed.

Abstract:
An accounting system that includes the organization of forms, records and reports that are focused in such a way as to provide information related to finance that is really needed by management to make it easier for company managers. A well-structured accounting system will also provide good meaning for management in managing its business. Every company has several accounting systems that are interrelated and work together to achieve certain goals. Inventory is arranged in staggered form (list/table), while the balance sheet is presented using accounts. Inventory is the basis for compiling balance sheets and annual financial reports. Aruna Cosmetics is engaged in trading various kinds of cosmetics, carrying out simple inventory records using a calculator and transferring them into books, which results in inefficient performance. When prices rise, the FIFO method causes too little effort and tends to overvalue inventory assets compared to direct individual valuation. However, if the actual movement of capital occurs on the basis of the FIFO principle, then the assessment of this method corresponds to a direct individual assessment. The formation of hidden reserves when prices rise is not possible with the FIFO method. An increase in profits due to an increase in the price of inventory is called inventory profit or illusory profit.

Abstract:
Scheduling is extremely important for modern real-time systems. It enables several programs to run in parallel and succeed with their tasks. Many systems today are real-time systems, which means that good scheduling is highly needed. This thesis aims to evaluate the real-time scheduling algorithm earliest deadline first, newly introduced into the Linux kernel, and compare it to the already existing real-time scheduling algorithms first in, first out and round robin in the context of firm tasks. By creating a test program that can create pthreads and set their scheduling characteristics, the performance of earliest deadline first can be evaluated and compared to the others.<br>Schemaläggning är extremt viktigt för dagens realtidssystem.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this thesis, we are interested in adding real-time constraints in the Wireless Sensor Networks Database (WSNDB). Temporal consistency in WSNDB must be ensured by respecting the transaction deadlines and data temporal validity, so that sensor data reflect the current state of the environment. However, delays of transmission and/or reception in a data collection process can lead to not respect the data temporal validity. A database solution is most appropriate, which should coincide with the traditional database aspects with sensors and their environment. For this purpose, the sensor in WSN is considered as a table in a distributed database, which applied transactions (queries, updates, etc.). Transactions in a WSNDB require modifications to take into account of the continuous datastream and real-time aspects. Our contribution in this thesis focus on three parts: (i) a comparative study of temporal properties between a periodic data collection based on a remote database and query processing approach with WSNDB, (ii) the proposition of a real-time query processing model, (iii) the implementation of a real time WSNDB, based on the techniques described in the second contribution

Abstract:
Improving throughput in the B. Tech. Nursing Sciences programme is a complex issue as not only the theoretical but also the practical component and undefined inner strengths of the student influence success. The purpose of this article is to report factors in the prospective students’ social background, their perceptions of nursing and nurses and their motivation that could influence their academic success in the first year of study. The research design was contextual, qualitative and exploratory. Triangulation of data gathering methods was obtained by using two instruments, a targeted selection interview and a written instrument. Data analysis was done through Tesch’s approach. The results indicate that prospective students perceive a nurse to be functioning from the affective domain, and that they judge themselves to be strong in the affective domain. The cognitive domain was rarely mentioned (7%). Due to the myths regarding the nursing profession, the profession continue to attract students who are interested in the myth and not the reality.

Martin, Georgianna LaNelle. "Getting out, missing out, and surviving: the social class experiences of White, low-income, first-generation college students." Diss., University of Iowa, 2012. https://ir.uiowa.edu/etd/2937.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to understand how White students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds (operationalized as students who are both low income and of the first generation in their family to attend college) experience and navigate social class during college. This was a qualitative research study employing a phenomenological research methodology. A critical theoretical lens was used to illuminate systemic issues of power and privilege related to social class present in the experiences of these participants. This study was guided by the following research question: How do White, low SES students experience and navigate social class during college? Participants in this study had many similar experiences to one another related to their social class. However, there also existed a variety of individual differences in how students understood and experienced their social class during college. Overall, participants expressed a limited awareness of their social class growing up, but all became keenly aware of it during college. In particular, during college, students became aware of how their own social class differed from the dominant middle class to upper class social class represented on campus. Participants minimized the salience of social class as an aspect of their identity with many of them expressing that they did not want their social class to define them. While participants largely did not feel as if social class was an important aspect of their identity, it became clear through their stories that this aspect of their identity influenced how they viewed themselves, the world around them, and their higher SES peers in college. For example, participants readily acknowledged the frustration and resentment that set them apart from their college peers. The students who participated in this study exhibited ethics of hard work, self-sufficiency, and financial responsibility. These values and attitudes also were evident in students' practices and behaviors (e.g., their judicious spending habits, their long hours working for pay). It also became clear that the long hours most participants in this study worked in order to afford college meant missing out on opportunities for involvement in activities outside of the classroom. Finally, participants' experiences interacting with their high SES peers played a pivotal role in their awareness of their social class during college. Participants were often frustrated by the attitudes, values, and behaviors of their higher SES peers, and for some, these social class differences led to social isolation. Overall, these findings illuminate a variety of issues and areas for concern, directly related to social class, experienced by low-income, first-generation college students in higher education.

Wu, Chun Andy, and 胡俊. "The effectiveness of dispatcher-assisted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a literature review." Thesis, The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong), 2012. http://hub.hku.hk/bib/B48426507.

Full text
Abstract:
Background According to data from Department of Health, in 2011 heart diseases was the second commonest leading cause of death in Hong Kong [13]. Shortening the time from cardiac arrest to Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) could increase the chance of survival. If the brain of the patient who suffers from cardiac arrest does not receive oxygen within 4 minutes, severe brain damage might occur [14]. In some countries like US and Finland, dispatcher will give CPR instruction to caller when cardiac arrest is recognized. Therefore, the patient could receive early CPR before the arrival of paramedics. If dispatcher-assisted CPR is implemented in Hong Kong, the chance of survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patient could be increased. Objective 1. To evaluate whether it is evident that dispatcher-assisted CPR and dispatcher instruction [22] would improve survival of OHCA. 2. To evaluate whether these measures could be implemented in Hong Kong. Data Source PubMed was searched for articles in English language with no limit set for time of the study. The keywords were dispatcher-assisted CPR and out of hospital. No inclusion criteria were set on the publication type and other details. Results Initial PubMed search resulted in 24 articles. After reviewing the abstracts, 10 articles were selected for full-text assessment. Finally, four relevant articles were selected for the literature review. Of the four papers, two were retrospective cohort studies; one was before-after comparison study while the remaining one was randomized control trial. Three papers (Rea et al, Eisenberg et al, and Kuisma et al.) used the survival to hospital discharge as the effect measure for the primary outcome to evaluate the effectiveness of dispatcher-assisted CPR. The remaining paper (Hallstrom et al.) mainly studied the potential benefit and harm from dispatcher-assisted CPR. Using no bystander CPR as the reference group, the multivariate adjusted odds ratio of survival was 1.45 (95% CI, 1.21, 1.73) for dispatcher-assisted bystander CPR and 1.69 (95% CI, 1.42, 2.01) for bystander CPR without dispatcher assistance [2]. The percentage of total bystander-initiated CPR increased from 45% to 56% after the programme (difference: 11.1%, 95% CI, ±9.3%). Besides, the percentage discharged for dispatcher-assisted CPR group after the programme was 15% higher than that before the programme [6]. The most important findings are related to the number of cardiac arrest calls in that when the dispatcher handled on less than 4 Ventricular Fibrillation (VF) calls during the study period, the survival to hospital discharge was 22.1% compared to 38.2% and 39.4% when the dispatcher handled 4 to 9 calls or more than 9 calls (p = 0.0227 for the three groups) [8]. With telephone guided CPR, the survival to hospital discharge was 43.1% compared with 31.7% when CPR instructions were not provided (p = 0.0453) [8]. In patients (n = 3,320) receiving advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) a total of 993 (29.9%) was found to be benefited from dispatcher-assisted CPR [7]. Conclusion Instructions by dispatcher can improve bystander CPR rates, which in turn increases the chance of survival [26]. Dispatcher-assisted CPR is worth considering to be recommended to all callers reporting a patient in cardiac arrest in Hong Kong.<br>published_or_final_version<br>Public Health<br>Master<br>Master of Public Health

Priority queues, in which customers with higher waiting costs are served first, are more efficient but usually involve undesirable queue-jumping behaviors that violate bumped customers’ property rights over their waiting spots. To have the best of both worlds, this chapter introduces time trading mechanisms, in which customers who are privately informed about their waiting costs mutually agree on the ordering in the queue by trading positions. If a customer ever moves back in the queue, she will receive an appropriate monetary compensation. Customers can always decide not to participate in trading and retain their positions as if they are being served FIFO. We design the optimal mechanisms for the social planner, the service provider, and an intermediary who might mediate the trading platform. Both the social planner’s and the service provider’s optimal mechanisms involve a flat admission fee and an auction that implements strict priority. If a revenue-maximizing intermediary operates the trading platform, it should charge a trade participation fee and implement an auction with some trade restrictions. Therefore, customers are not strictly prioritized. However, relative to a FIFO system, the intermediary delivers value to the social planner by improving efficiency, and to the service provider by increasing its revenue. This chapter is primarily based on Yang et al. (Manag Sci 63(7):2377–2395, 2017) where interested readers can find proofs of the results shown in this chapter.

Abstract:
AbstractWaiting in line is a common yet disagreeable experience for customers seeking service, and the desire to bypass a long line has spawned the innovative practice of line-sitting—instead of joining the queue themselves, customers can hire surrogates to stand in line on behalf of them. These surrogates are referred to as line-sitters. They enter queues upon customer requests, and unlike true customers they sit in line not for the underlying service that customers are waiting for but for monetary gains from those who are willing to pay to avoid waiting. The line-sitters can notify customers through text messaging or a mobile app when they move close to the front of the line. As a result, the hiring customer can simply show up to take the line-sitter’s spot when the service is about to start. In this chapter, we present a model of line-sitting and show that it can increase the social welfare or revenue of the service provider over a first-in-first-out (FIFO) policy. This chapter is primarily based on Cui et al. (Manag Sci 66(1):227–242, 2020) and Wang and Wang (Oper Res Lett 47(5):447–451, 2019) where interested readers can find proofs of the findings shown in this chapter.

Abstract:
Due to rising environmental awareness, many individuals are moving away from fossil-fuel vehicles like gasoline and diesel cars. In contrast, electric vehicles improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions, leading to a surge in their popularity. This growth presents challenges for the motor industry, including a gap between product availability and demand, causing longer delivery times. Efficiently assigning orders to machines, adapting production, and ensuring timely delivery are critical research areas. Dispatching rules are vital in managing production processes, determining how goods are handled as they enter the system. Conventional dispatching systems, which rely on dispatcher expertise and on-site information, often result in incomplete orders being delayed, causing financial losses. This study aims to evaluate various dispatching rules using system simulation to identify the optimal approach for improving order fulfillment. Using the DC motor production line for electric vehicles as a case study, this research develops a production model through FlexSim, used primarily for visualizing production processes. The dispatching rules evaluated include First In, First Out (FIFO), Shortest Processing Time (SPT), and Earliest Due Date (EDD). Results highlight ways the company can improve its processes by comparing fulfillment rates and delay times.

Abstract:
In the Summer of 1958, nine years after the establishment of Red China, a group of students and faculty of the Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) adventured into the indigenous design and development of socialist China's first helicopter: "Yan-An 2" (Y-2, Yan' an No. 2). In span of one decade, two helicopter models of the Y-2 were developed: Y-2A and Y-2B. The obscurely known Y-2A helicopter model design project was carried out at NPU in 1958 and then halted in 1960. The better known Y-2B helicopter model development was launched in 1965 and executed by the same faculty and student team of NPU. Although both helicopter models share the identical designated name of "Yan-An 2" (Y-2), their design configurations are basically different. Despite the fact that most information about the helicopter is still sealed and classified, this paper will present the tortuous rotorcraft design and development history of the Y-2A and Y-2B.

Abstract:
First In / First Out (FIFO) accumulating storage systems combine high-density storage with automatic material handling. A traditional FIFO storage system is a flow-through rack which uses gravity to move the pallet from the load end to the unload end. High-density storage installations require a significant difference in height between the load end and the unload end which results in a loss of available storage space. Rack configuration in terms of slope, brake configuration, and roller density is inflexible and are a function of pallet type, size, and weight. Changes in pallet characteristics cannot be easily accommodated by traditional gravity flow storage rack systems. Alternate FIFO storage systems are available that do not use gravity but rather use rollers on a horizontal reciprocating frame with directional flippers to ensure that the load indexes from the load end to the unload end. The limitations of these existing systems have prompted the development of alternative FIFO storage system. This paper details an innovative FIFO storage/handling system and the collaborative effort between a university and private industry to develop this product.

Abstract:
It is an important achievement of modern techniques to determine the mass flow rate and the phase fraction of wet steam by measuring the orifice plate differential pressure noise. The orifice plate differential pressure noise of air-water two-phase flow in horizontal and vertical rising pipelines were analyzed. Kinds of calculation methods were tried to get the differential pressure noise. From the difference waveform of the differential pressure square root that the acquisition card got and the mean square root of the sample that got before, the first in first out (FIFO) principle was used to get the differential pressure noise. Result shows that the differential pressure noise has different level at different vapor flow rate with the same water flow rate, conclusions show that the two-parameter measurement by using orifice plate differential pressure noise may be possibly used in vertical rising gas-water two phase flow.

Full text
Abstract:
An archaeological excavation of the protected burial mound Store Vejlhøj in northwestern Denmark was carried out in October-November 2021. The excavation formed part of the ERC-funded research project called ANTHEA, focusing on the deep history of anthropogenic heathlands. It was conducted by Aarhus University in collaboration with Holstebro Museum and Moesgaard Museum. The aim was to test a new method of sampling pollen data from different construction stages in a burial mound and comparing them with pollen data from nearby lake sediments with a view to improving our understanding of prehistoric anthropogenic heathland dynamics. Prior to the excavation, soil cores were collected from two nearby peat sediments as well as six burial mounds (including Store Vejlhøj) within a 1 km range of Lake Skånsø, where previous pollen analyses had been carried out. Based on these preliminary corings, Store Vejlhøj was selected for further archaeological investigation. A dispensation for excavating the protected mound was granted by the Danish Palaces and Culture Agency. The excavation was based on a 5 m long trench through the barrow, moving from its foot inwards. The surface vegetation and 40 cm topsoil were removed by an excavator, after which the remainder of the trench was manually dug in horizontal layers. Observation conditions were good. The excavation revealed a series of well-defined barrow construction stages, as well as unusually wellpreserved turf structures. Only two archaeological finds could be related to the barrow, both of which were later than its initial construction: a secondary urn in the top layer, and the base of a second urn at the foot of the mound. The burial mound was constructed using a minimum of three shells, which could be observed in the trench profile. Turfs were most probably collected locally in a landscape dominated by grass pastures, where no previous turf cutting had taken place. A total of 34 soil samples were collected for paleoecological analyses (pollen, Non-Pollen Polymorphs (NPPs), macrofossils) and geoarchaeological analyses (micromorphology, bulk samples). Preliminary pollen and macrofossil results from the burial mound revealed poor preservation conditions, which prompted a trench extension of 0.5 m by 0.2 m to find better preservation conditions. This extension resulted in the collection of a single final macrofossil sample, although there was no identifiable change in the in-situ preservation conditions. The dating results of the mound have not yet been completed and will be included as appendix 4-6 in 2023.

Full text
Abstract:
This guide represents the state of the art of support fluid practice and aims to improve existing design, testing and practices for deep foundation elements – bored piles (drilled shafts), barrettes (LBEs) and diaphragm wall panels. It represents the first time that knowledge of good practice from around the world has been brought together into a single authoritative publication. The purpose of this Guide is to present current understanding on bentonite, other clays, polymers and blended systems, including the advantages and limitations, in order to allow informed selection of the optimum technical solution(s) for the conditions on each individual worksite. This Guide does not recommend any particular type of support fluid as each worksite has specific characteristics and requirements. This Guide will assist individuals and corporations involved in the procurement, design, and construction of deep foundations including Owners/Clients, Designers, General Contractors, Academics and Specialist Contractors. It is intended as a practical addition to existing standards, not a substitute. Project Specifications, Standards and Codes should always take precedence. This first edition details accepted industry good practice and will be followed by a second edition based on a comprehensive R&amp;D program which will carry out a series of field research studies. The studies will collect data from active project sites and develop and conduct non-standard tests in order to establish what testing methods have substantial value and to better understand the validity of the compliance values in use. The task group will then produce a second edition of the guide that promises to be the best authority on the use of support fluids in the industry. This is expected to be published in 2021.
