Novices have had the problem of relying on text and failing to successfully detect trends in data because it was too laborious. We want users to effectively use visual rep

In Discovery Science. Springer International Publishing, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-61527-7_43.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Some mHealth apps record user activity continuously and unobtrusively, while other apps rely by nature on user engagement and self-discipline: users are asked to enter data that cannot be assessed otherwise, e.g., on how they feel and what non-measurable symptoms they have. Over time, this leads to substantial differences in the length of the time series of recordings for the different users. In this study, we propose two algorithms for wellbeing-prediction from such time series, and we compare their performance on the users of a pilot study on diabetic patients - with time series length varying between 8 and 87 recordings. Our first approach learns a model from the few users, on which many recordings are available, and applies this model to predict the 2nd, 3rd, and so forth recording of users newly joining the mHealth platform. Our second approach rather exploits the similarity among the first few recordings of newly arriving users. Our results for the first approach indicate that the target variable for users who use the app for long are not predictive for users who use the app only for a short time. Our results for the second approach indicate that few initial recordings suffice to inform the predictive model and improve performance considerably.

AbstractThe chapter describes the development of a platform for mapping crop status and long-time trends by using EO data as a support tool for fertilizing and crop protection. The main focus of the pilot is to monitor cereal fields by high-resolution satellite imagery data (Landsat 8, Sentinel 2) and delineation of management zones within the fields for variable rate application of fertilizers. The first part of the paper is focused on analysis of strategies for recommendations derived from satellite data. The second part is focused on development of a software application with the goal to offer farmers a GIS portal. Here, users can monitor their fields from EO data, based on the specified period and select cloudless scenesfor further analysis. The tool supports collaborative communication between farmers and advisors.

Abstract:
In this chapter, the authors examine if internet users are against any kind of internet regulation policy or not. In their endeavour, they begin with a literature review of older related surveys, and then proceed by presenting their UK-related survey that was conducted in 2007-2008, focusing on the UK's IRS (i.e., BT's CleanFeed). The United Kingdom CleanFeed is an ideal case study as it was the first time that an internet regulation system had been implemented to such an extent in a Western democracy. The authors' UK survey managed to collect initial valuable data that formed their further survey-based research in Greece, Germany, Russia, India, Kosovo, and Cyprus. Last, the authors discuss the need for regularly measuring internet users' opinions about the subject.

Abstract:
Aiming at the problem that the precision and recall rate of traditional prediction methods are low and its low prediction efficiency, a Python-based trajectory tracking prediction method of online learning network user location is proposed. First, troubleshooting terminal programs of online learning network user by programming in Python (computer programming language) structure, the location trajectory data of online learning network user is spatially processed. In this way, features of time-related, spatial correlation, social relationship correlation, and user preference characteristics are extracted respectively to realize feature normalization processing. Second, on this basis, the cosine similarity is used to calculate the similarity of user behavior trajectory. According to K-MEANS (hard clustering algorithm), the time dimension is considered. Finally, the clustering result of users' behavior trajectory based on the sign-in data is compared with a preset threshold to predict the online user location trajectory. The experimental results show that the proposed method normalizes the user's trajectory, combines the time segment, and compares it with the preset threshold, which does not only improve the prediction efficiency but also obtains higher and more feasible precision and recall rate.

Abstract:
This chapter proposes a new approach for microblog information retrieval during unexpected disasters. This approach consists of identifying prominent microblog users who are susceptible to share relevant and exclusive information during a specific disaster. By tracking these users, emergency first responders would benefit from a direct access to the valuable information shared in real time in microblogs. In order to identify such users, we represent each microblog user according to his behavior at each particular disaster phase. Through the proposed users' representation, different prediction models are learned in order to identify prominent users at an early stage of each disaster phase. We experimented with different user representations, taking into account both the microblog user behavior and disaster context specificities. We also analyzed the importance of the different microblog users' features categories according to the disaster phase context. The achieved experimental results show the efficiency of our phase-aware-user characterization approach.

Abstract:
Map navigation is one of the most popular applications used by mobile users. At the same time, it is also one of the time- and resource-consuming applications. Various methods such as most-recently used and first-in, first-out algorithms are used to reduce the map transmission time and delay. One of the popular methods is online mobile map prefetching and caching. However, the mobility and location features of mobile users are usually left out by these methods. Caching and prefetching maps based on a mobile user’s location would greatly reduce the transmission time and hence the battery power consumption. For example, if a user is visiting a town, prefetching the maps of nearby interesting stores and caching the maps of the visited, neighboring landmarks would help the user’s visitation experience and save the transmission time. Online mobile map prefetching or caching is useful, but is not widely employed because it involves several different subjects and developers usually are not familiar with all of them. This chapter intends to relieve the problem by introducing essential technologies for online mobile map prefetching and caching so more developers can start working on this kind of project or research. It consists of four themes: (1) green handheld computing, (2) location-based services and programming, (3) map tile system, and (4) location-aware map prefetching and caching methods. A summary is given at the end of this chapter.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to understand faculty members' experience, self-efficacy, and sense-making processes after teaching via online distance learning for the first time in the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2020 academic terms (i.e., during the COVID-19 pandemic). The research also sought to understand how participants described their teaching and learning methods and approaches after having completed the three academic terms and received students' feedback. This study aimed to use the findings to develop and refine the preparation and procedural guidance offered to first-time distance learning teachers to improve their methods, approaches, and experiences. Using a phenomenological analysis, the researcher collected data from 70 interviews and seven focus groups. The results recommended school leadership to reform their current distance learning-based programs, and to first-time users of distance learning in teaching faculties to help them reflect on their teaching and learning methods and approaches based on a self-efficacy perspective.

This article describes how local governments in Japan recently provide security information services for residents, which deliver regional incident information using Email or Web. However, since the conventional services usually provide “one-for-all” information. users tend to miss important incidents within the flood of information. This article proposes a new security information service, called PRISM (Personalized Real-time Information with Security Map). For given incident information and user's living area, PRISM first computes severity of the incident, based on distance, time, and type of the incident. It then visualizes the incidents with the severity on a heat map. Thus, PRISM provides real-time personalized information adapted to individual situation of users. To illustrate the feasibility, we implement PRISM as a Web application using Hyogo Bouhan Net, and Kobe city facility open data.

Click-Through Rate (CTR) prediction plays an important role in many industrial applications, such as online advertising and recommender systems. How to capture users' dynamic and evolving interests from their behavior sequences remains a continuous research topic in the CTR prediction. However, most existing studies overlook the intrinsic structure of the sequences: the sequences are composed of sessions, where sessions are user behaviors separated by their occurring time. We observe that user behaviors are highly homogeneous in each session, and heterogeneous cross sessions. Based on this obs

Abstract:
Mobile wallets replicate physical wallets on a mobile device, in which users can store different payment instruments (e.g., cards, transfers) to make mobile payments. As the mobile wallet is adopted, a mobile payment scheme emerges, with its users as elements in a network of transfers. In this article, I study the mobile payment scheme of Movii— the first fintech firm in Colombia operating under a financial non-banking license for electronic deposits and payments. Based on a unique dataset of bilateral transfers between Movii’s mobile wallet users, I build, visualize and analyze Movii’s networ

Abstract:
Emergency Relief (ER) is a Department of Social Services (DSS) funded program, delivered by 197 community organisations (ER Providers) across Australia, to assist people facing a financial crisis with financial/material aid and referrals to other support programs. ER has been playing this important role in Australian communities since 1979. Without ER, more people living in Australia who experience a financial crisis might face further harm such as crippling debt or homelessness. The Emergency Relief National Coordination Group (NCG) was established in April 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 p

Oden, Rikki. Effectiveness of Focused Water Conservation Messaging in the Clackamas River, OR. Portland State University, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.15760/mem.67.

Abstract:
The Clackamas River in Oregon is a drinking water source for upwards of 300,000 people living in the Portland metro region. This river experiences seasonal low flow during the annual dry season throughout summer and early fall when endangered salmon species return to the river to spawn. This dry season also coincides with the highest period of urban water use. Since precipitation is minimal at this time, water users choose to water their lawns to make up for the lack of rain which contributes to water use tripling during the driest part of the year. To promote local water conservation, the Cla

Abstract:
Currently, to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of objects, quite a large number of devices are used in the form of chronographs, which consist of various optical, thermal and laser sensors. Among the problems of these devices, the following can be distinguished: the lack of recording of the received data; the inaccessibility of taking into account the trajectory of the object flying in the sensor area, as well as taking into consideration the trajectory of the object during the approach to the device frame. The signal received from the infrared sensors is recorded in a separate document in

Abstract:
This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes the design and implementation of a wave model evaluation system, altWIZ, which uses wave height observations from operational satellite radar altimeters. The altWIZ system utilizes two recently released altimeter databases: Ribal and Young (2019) and European Space Agency Sea State Climate Change Initiative v.1.1 level 2 (Dodet et al. 2020). The system facilitates model evaluation against 1 Hz1 altimeter data or a product created by averaging altimeter data in space and time around model grid points. The system allows, fo
