Teacher attrition is a global concern that is particularly prevalent among beginning teachers. Teachers’ intrinsic motivation to teach, affective organisational commitment and job satisfaction are considered job attitudes that stop them from dropping out of the profession. This study explores the interplay between factors at the school level (i.e. transformational leadership of the principal, professional collegial support) and the teacher level (i.e. self-efficacy) influencing these job attitudes. A sample of 292 first-year primary-school teachers participated. The results of the path analysi

Abstract Using the NLSY’s weekly work history data to precisely measure labor market outcomes and the school-to-work transition, I document severe but short-lived effects of leaving school in a recession for men with 9–12 years of education. I find significant effects of entry labor market conditions on wages, job quality, and the transition time from school to work. In contrast to published evidence on more educated workers, I also find large effects on work hours on both the extensive and the intensive margins. However, there is little current research into their levels of stress and job satisfaction, particularly based on nationally representative data. In order to understand how principals perceive their job and how best to support them, new insights into factors contributing to job satisfaction and stress of school principals are warranted. Pope’s first year presented a mixture of challenges that required much of her. Her dual allegiance—to her native Hawaiian pupils and her missionary benefactors—was a tension that would persist throughout her career. In January 1895, Lili‘uokalani was charged with treason and imprisoned in ‘Iolani Palace. With their queen in custody, Pope had to keep a more watchful eye on the psychological states of all of her pupils, ever loyal to the monarchy. The entire community was quarantined due to the cholera outbreak affecting school operations. Her first graduates hit the job market and Pope asserts herself with Charles Bishop and the school trustees.

Abstract:
The expectation of employment after graduation is fundamental to the rationale for American higher education. The public is challenging the economic value of a college education and job readiness is at the heart of the debate. Ironically, academics believe their students are being well prepared for employment in the private sector but potential employers strongly disagree. To address this challenge schools must be transparent about the credential they are offering and if job readiness is not an explicit objective that should be disclosed. Other steps that cannot enhance job readiness include involving non-traditional instructors; develop innovative faculty training; integrate internships and experiential learning into the curriculum; address the career issue during the first year and set measurable goals for career readiness initiatives.

In the decade after the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African Americans made historic gains in accessing employment opportunities in racially integrated workplaces in U.S. business firms and government agencies.
