We explored vocabulary competence in 55 firstborn and secondborn sibling pairs when each child reached 1;8 using multiple measures of maternal report, child speech, and experimenter assessment. Measures from each of the three sources were interrelated. Firstborns' vocabulary competence exceeded secondborns' only in maternal reports, not in child speech or in experimenter assessments. Firstborn girls outperformed boys on all vocabulary competence measures, and secondborn girls outperformed boys on most measures. In both samples, higher program implementation increased male child survival rates in families without a firstborn son, but not in those that already have a firstborn male child. We argue this reflects intensified son preference as land rights improve, ostensibly to ensure a male heir to inherit land. Empirical findings have found mostly that, yes, second or higher-order children often lag behind firstborns in height outcomes, especially in developing countries. We provide an explanation for the negative birth-order effect on stunting outcomes for young Indian children and show it is driven by short preceding-birth spacing. Every child born into a family has different genetic characteristics and is exposed to different social environments, including their birth order. Each child's attitude, personality, and behavior will be influenced by those factors. Within the family, the sense of responsibility of the eldest child, the middle child, and the youngest child will differ due to the differences they have as members of the social group. Therefore, it is necessary to examine this to find out the effect of birth order on children's sense of responsibility by taking samples from early childhood aged 5-6 years as the f

AbstractTo examine the antecedents and consequences of troubled family interaction during the “terrible twos,” 64 of 69 families rearing firstborn sons who were observed in the child's second year of life were observed again in the child's third year. Cluster analysis of parent and child behavior scores was used once more to identify families whose parent-child interactions during parental efforts to control the child looked “troubled” at 27 and/or 33 months so that chronicity of troubled family interaction across the second and third year of life could be appraised. The topic of birth order within families has long been associated with individual personality. In the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) era, which is full of challenges and changes. It is still relevant and important enough to be studied. Research shows that the birth order of individuals in each family can affect the individual personality of each family member, be it the firstborn, middle child, or youngest child, especially in terms of leadership, ambition level, environment, behavior, and social interaction abilities that tend to vary. Rabies encephalitis is a rare but severe complication following dog bites, particularly when appropriate prophylaxis is not administered. We present the case of a tween girl, the firstborn child of a non-consanguineous married couple, who developed neurological symptoms following a category three dog bite. The child had received four doses of the rabies vaccine but did not receive Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG). She initially presented with progressive lower limb weakness followed by urinary retention, which eventually progressed to encephalopathy and dystonia. Initial diagnosis of Guillain-Barre

Consistent with principles of developmental psychopathology, the same underlying relationship disturbance was expected to manifest differently at different times in the developmental process. Specifically, links among maternal intrusiveness during infancy, overprotection during childhood, and mother-child role-reversal during young adulthood were explored. Introduction: Congenital hip dislocation is caused by a wide spectrum of reasons, leading to disability among children. Many factors contribute to the disorder, including breech presentation, consanguineous marriage, and the hormone (Relaxin) which can promote ligament laxity in some patients with congenital hip dislocation. Additionally, being a firstborn child is said to increase the risk of developing the condition. The preferred method for assessing the hip in infants under 6 months of age is ultrasound (US). Given the lack of inherent uniqueness of the middleborn child, we hypothesized that middleborn adults would be more likely to express their roles in terms of physical distance and separation of themselves from their families and therefore tend to move farther away from home than their firstborn and lastborn siblings. A chi-squared analysis assessed the frequency of participants living farthest from both mother and father for middleborns versus all other birth-order positions. This study investigated the general nature of conversational interaction in mother–twin–twin triads. Four sets of firstborn twins (2;3) were videotaped during 15 minutes of free play with their mothers. Analyses revealed that triadic conversations were approximately five times longer, and elicited more turns from all speakers, than dyadic conversations between a mother and a single twin. Twins also responded as often to comments and requests made to another person as to those directed to themselves, but responded more often to questions addressed directly to them than to others, indicating rel
