We introduce a novel parametrization of the correlation matrix. The reparametrization facilitates modeling of correlation and covariance matrices by an unrestricted vector, where positive definiteness is an innate property. This parametrization can be viewed as a generalization of Fisher's Z‐transformation to higher dimensions and has a wide range of potential applications. An algorithm for reconstructing the unique n × n correlation matrix from any vector in R n ( n − 1 ) / 2 is provided, and we derive its numerical complexity.

Abstract:
Objective Growing evidence suggests that peak wall stress (PWS) derived from finite element analysis (FEA) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) predicts clinical outcomes better than diameter alone. Prior models assume uniform wall thickness (UWT). We hypothesize that inclusion of locally variable wall thickness (VWT) into FEA of AAAs will improve the ability to predict clinical outcomes. Methods Patients with AAAs (n=26) undergoing radiologic surveillance were identified. Custom MATLAB algorithms generated UWT and VWT aortic geometries from CTA images, which were subsequently loaded with syst

Abstract Background Perturbed functional coupling between the metabotropic glutamate receptor-5 (mGluR5) and N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated excitatory glutamatergic neurotransmission may contribute to the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. We aimed to establish the functional interaction between mGluR5 and NMDA receptors in brain of mice with genetic ablation of the mGluR5. Methods We first measured the brain glutamate levels with magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in mGluR5 knockout (KO) and wild-type (WT) mice. Then, we assessed brain glucose me

Abstract Despite effective therapies that have extended the life expectancy of persons living with HIV, 35–70% of these adults still develop some form of cognitive impairment, and with a growing population of aging adults with HIV, the prevalence of these cognitive deficits is likely to increase. The mechanisms underlying these HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders remain poorly understood but are often accelerated by the aging process and accompanied by disturbances in sensory processing, which may contribute to the observed cognitive decline. The goal of the current study was to identify t

Abstract:
Introduction: Hispanic/Latino youth in the United States are disproportionately burdened by obesity. Siblings are important determinants of each other’s health behaviors, particularly in Hispanic/Latino families whose cultural values are distinctive for stressing close and supportive family relationships. However, no study in Hispanic/Latino youth has examined how overall diet quality correlates between siblings. Objective: To determine how well Hispanic/Latino siblings’ diet quality correlates with each other and whether social and environmental factors explain potential differences. Methods:
