Abstract:
Along with other contaminants, bacterial contamination in the dried fishes is a common issue which severely affects the quality of cured fishes. Hence, the present study was aimed to isolate and identify different bacterial flora contaminating different dried fishes, sold at different retail markets within Dhaka Metropolitan city, Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 25 different dried fishes were collected from Dhaka North city corporation area (Town Hall kacha bazar, Krishi market, and Mohammadpur kacha bazar) and Dhaka South city corporation area (New market kacha bazar, and Jatrabari chowrasta ba

Food items, preying and feeding activities of white-breasted Kingfisher, Halcyon smyrnensis were studied from September 2008 to September 2011 at Nikunja-1 in Dhaka City Corporation area. A total of 16 species of food items were recorded from the observation. Fishes (more than 60%) were mostly preferred item. The highest preference was fry of Labeo rohita (30.6%). They highly preferred the species belonging to the Family Cyprinidae and Order Cypriniformes. The length of the food items varied from 2.0 to 12.3 cm. Surface dweller species (85.8%) was highly preferred. During preying, they used 0.

The present study was carried out from July 2005 to June 2007 and diseased freshwater fishes were collected from different water bodies and fish landing centre of three study areas, namely City Corporation area, Rajshahi; Paba upazila and Charghat upazila, Rajshahi. In the present study the load of bacteria in lesion, liver and kidney of H. molitrix showed considerable variation in different months during the study period. Monthly variation of bacterial load in body lesion varied from 3.17×104 CFU/g (July’05) to 2.13×107 CFU/g (March’07), in liver it varied from 7.17×103 CFU/g (July’05) to 5.1

ABSTRACT To see the impact of Acid mine drainage (AMD) in Patkai wetland near Tikak open cast mine of Margherita Sub-division , District Tinsukia, Assam, the hydro-biological characteristics were analysed for the year 2007-08. Physico-chemical characteristics revealed low D.O. (3.21 mg/l); high turbidity (25.19 NTU), hardness (83.15 mg/l); presence of heavy metals like Arsenic (0.038 mg/l) and Iron (0.18 mg/l) beyond permissible level in water and sediment soil. Aquatic diversity represents less diversity of plankton as well as low fish distribution with six species belonging

Objectives: Intermittent Fasting (IF), time-restrictive food intake, has been shown to improve cognitive functions and reduce age-related behavioral impairments in rodent models. Our prior studies have found that IF intervention has significantly reduced body weights and food intake in male Fsher-344 rats; however, females did not display IF-induced declines in body weights and food intake. The exact mechanism for the sex differences in body weight and food intake during IF is not fully understood. Factors such as shifts in body composition and metabolic demand may contribute to variations in

Abstract Background The COVID-19 epidemic has been repeated worldwide; however, easily accessible treatment options for patients with mild COVID-19 remain limited. Since the Lactococcus lactis strain plasma (LC- Plasma) enhances both the innate and acquired immune systems through the activation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), we hypothesized that the oral intake of LC-Plasma could ease symptoms in patients with mild COVID-19. Methods The study protocol was registered in Japan Registry of Clinical Trials (jRCTs071210097). A total of 100 patients with mild COVID-19 were enrolled from Jan

Authors: Jennifer Gommerman & Jorg Fritz ### Abstract The largest mucosal surface in the body is in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, a location that is heavily colonized by normally harmless microbes. A key mechanism required for maintaining a homeostatic balance between this microbial burden and the lymphocytes that densely populate the GI tract is the production and trans-epithelial transport of poly-reactive IgA1. Within the mucosal tissues, B cells respond to cytokines, sometimes in the absence of T cell help, undergo class switch recombination (CSR) of their Immunoglobulin (Ig) recept

Introduction Since December 2010 the dramatic spectacle of the spread of mass uprisings, civil unrest, and protest across North Africa and the Middle East have been chronicled daily on mainstream media and new media. Broadly speaking, the Arab Spring—as it came to be known—is challenging repressive, corrupt governments and calling for democracy and human rights. The convulsive events linked with these debates have been striking not only because of the rapid spread of historically momentous mass protests but also because of the ways in which the media “have become inextricably infused inside th

Augmented Reality—The Liminal Zone Within the larger context of the post-desktop technological philosophy and practice, an increasing number of efforts are directed towards finding solutions for integrating as close as possible virtual information into specific real environments; a short list of such endeavors include Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS-driven navigation, mobile phones, GIS (Geographic Information System), and various technological systems associated with what is loosely called locative, ubiquitous and pervasive computing. Rip, mix, share, and sue. Has ‘copy’ become a dirty word? The invitation to artists, activists, consumers and critics to engage in the debate surrounding the creative processes of ‘copy’ has been insightful, if not inciting sampling/reproduction/reflection itself: It clearly questions whether ‘copy’ deserves the negative connotations that it currently summonses. It has confronted the divide between the original and its replica, and questioned notions of authenticity and the essence of identity. It has found that ‘open source’ is an opportunity to capitalise on creativity,
