Keller, George Burleigh. "Modeling and Measuring Affordability as Fitness." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/77365.

Abstract:
Affordability of products and services is an economic benefit that should accrue to consumers, whether they are corporations, government agencies or individuals. This concept of affordability goes beyond conventional wisdom that considers affordability as the ability to pay the price of a product or service. This dissertation defines and explores a broader concept of affordability – one of fitness to perform at the level of quality required by the consumer, to perform at that level whenever the product or service is used, and to do so with minimum consumption of resources. This concept of affo

Abstract:
Widespread unexplained variations in clinical practices and patient outcomes, together with rapidly growing availability of data, suggest major opportunities for improving the quality of medical care. One way that healthcare practitioners try to do that is by participating in organized healthcare quality improvement collaboratives (QICs). In QICs, teams of practitioners from different hospitals exchange information on clinical practices, with the aim of improving health outcomes at their own institutions. However, what works in one hospital may not work in others with different local contexts,

Abstract:
The present study evaluated direct and indirect associations between aerobic fitness, executive control, and emotion regulation among a sample of children aged 8-12 years. To evaluate these associations, the study employed a cross-sectional design and full-information maximum likelihood (FIML) structural equation modeling. Although the hypothesized factor analytic model failed to converge, an alternative exploratory model allowed for the evaluation of associations between primary study variables. Results supported a moderate direct association between childhood aerobic fitness and executive

Abstract:
In recent years there has emerged a new trend focused on the body image in the Western countries. Our society is concerned with people's physical appearance and ideal body image. As consequence of this trend, two businesses emerge: fitness centers and plastic surgery clinics. Traditionally the consumers' expenditure in these services and goods has been considered a luxury especially during the economic slowdown. However, in the recent times, (at end of 2000s both service sectors are showing an increasing trend in terms of activity and business size). Thus, customers have seen the practice of

Abstract:
The normative development of language is often taken for granted, yet problems with language development can result in stress for the individual and family. A challenge with these language development problems lies within the contemporary education system, which assumes that children have appropriate skills when they begin school. The purpose of the study was to test a theoretical model of language readiness known as language-based cognitive fitness, which includes measures associated with structural concepts of language involving receptive language, expressive language, spontaneous narrative

Abstract:
Symbolic regression is the problem of identifying the mathematic description of a hidden system from experimental data. Symbolic regression is closely related to general machine learning. This work deals with symbolic regression and its solution based on the principle of genetic programming and coevolution. Genetic programming is the evolution based machine learning method, which automaticaly generates whole programs in the given programming language. Coevolution of fitness predictors is the optimalization method of the fitness modelling that reduces the fitness evaluation cost and frequency,

The purpose of this study was (a) to test a hypothesized model of motivation grounded in the Self-Determination Theory within the context of conceptual physical education (CPE), and (b) to explore the strength and directionality of perceived competence for physical activity as a possible mediator for health-related fitness knowledge and actual physical activity behaviors. Participants were 280 high school students who were at the end of a CPE course. Abstract:
This Master Thesis develops the challenges of travel modeling during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, more specially for the Paris Olympics in 2024. This problem as been set by IDFM (Île-de-France Mobilités), the transport organisation authority of Paris and its region, that has therefore to deal with public travel during the Olympics. A very simplified model was already in use, but is no longer sufficient. The exceptional nature of this event, considered as a mega-event, requires a precise understanding of the subject as well as a different and adaptive modeling process. Thus, this work pres
