Abstract:
The study aimed to reveal the effect of the infographic display style (fixed, animated, and interactive) on learning and retaining the vocabulary of the Noble Quran among third grade students. The study sample consisted of 112 male and female third grade students and were distributed into three groups the students’ learning test was designed to learn the vocabulary of the Noble Quran according to the approved standards, and a quasi-experimental design was used. The results showed that all infographic patterns (fixed, animated, and interactive) have an impact on learning the vocabulary of the Noble Quran, but this effect is not equal between the patterns, the most influential is the interactive pattern, then the animated pattern, then the fixed pattern, and the results showed that the three patterns (fixed, animated, and interactive) had an impact on retaining learning the vocabulary of the Noble Quran, and that there were no differences between the three patterns in retaining learning the vocabulary of the noble Quran, and the study indicated to a set of recommendations, including encouraging teachers to employ multiple methods in teaching the vocabulary of the Noble Quran.

Abstract:
Is firm behavior mainly driven by its environment or rather by the characteristics of its managers? We develop a cognitive theory of manager fixed effects, where the allocation of managerial attention determines firm behavior. We show that in complex environments, the endogenous allocation of attention exacerbates manager fixed effects. Small differences in managerial expertise then may result in dramatically different firm behavior, as managers devote scarce attention in a way that amplifies initial differences. In contrast, in less complex environments, the endogenous allocation of attention mitigates manager fixed effects. Firm owners prefer “managers with style” only in complex environments. Abstract:
Textual style transfer is the task of transforming stylistic properties of text while preserving meaning. Target "styles" can be defined in numerous ways, ranging from single attributes (e.g. formality) to authorship (e.g. Shakespeare). Previous unsupervised style-transfer approaches generally rely on significant amounts of labeled data for only a fixed set of styles or require large language models. In contrast, we introduce a novel diffusion-based framework for general-purpose style transfer that can be flexibly adapted to arbitrary target styles at inference time. Our parameter-efficient approach, ParaGuide, leverages paraphrase-conditioned diffusion models alongside gradient-based guidance from both off-the-shelf classifiers and strong existing style embedders to transform the style of text while preserving semantic information. We validate the method on the Enron Email Corpus, with both human and automatic evaluations, and find that it outperforms strong baselines on formality, sentiment, and even authorship style transfer.

Abstract:
Learning and innovation are increasingly important for companies to compete in a global marketplace. Leaders are often in a position to exert significant influence on employees’ learning behaviors, and may also be able to foster learning from workplace errors. This cross-sectional research investigates the relationship between employee perceptions of leadership style, mindset (fixed vs. growth), and orientation to error learning. We examine five leadership styles – authentic, transformational, transactional, laissez-faire, and aversive leadership – and view them on an extended range, from more positive (authentic, transformational, and transactional) to more negative and destructive (laissez-faire and aversive). A sample of 268 participants completed an on-line survey of their leaders’ styles, as well as their own mindsets, and their reactions to workplace errors. Results suggest that authentic and transformational leadership styles foster more employee error learning than transactional leadership, while laissez-faire and aversive leadership styles are destructive in that they actively inhibit employee error learning. Somewhat surprisingly, laissez-faire leadership showed the strongest and most negative effect on a follower’s error learning orientation, although followers with fixed mindsets reported being less likely to learn from errors than followers with growth mindsets, regardless of leadership style. Our findings shed light on the relationship between leadership style and employee error learning, and suggest that negligent leadership may be particularly destructive for organizations that seek to foster a learning environment.

Abstract:
Responses to survey data are determined not only by item characteristics and respondents’ trait standings but also by response styles. Recently, methods for modeling response style with personality and attitudinal data have turned toward the use of anchoring vignettes, which provide fixed rating targets. Although existing research is promising, a few outstanding questions remain. First, it is not known how many vignettes and vignette ratings are necessary to identify response style parameters. Second, the comparative accuracy of these models is largely unexplored. Third, it remains unclear whether correcting for response style improves criterion validity. Both simulated data and data observed from a population-representative sample responding to a measure of personality pathology (the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 [PID-5]) were modeled using an array of response style models. In simulations, most models estimating response styles outperformed the graded response model (GRM), and in observed data, all response style models were superior to the GRM. Correcting for response style had a small, but in some cases significant, effect on the prediction of self-reported social dysfunction.

Abstract:
While language style is considered to be automatic and relatively stable, its plasticity has not yet been studied in translations that require the translator to “step into the shoes of another person.” In the present study, we propose a psychological model of language adaptation in translations. Focusing on an established interindividual difference marker of language style, that is, gender, we examined whether translators assimilate to the original gendered style or implicitly project their own gendered language style. In a preregistered study, we investigated gender differences in language use in TED Talks ( N = 1,647) and their translations ( N = 544) in same- versus opposite-gender speaker/translator dyads. The results showed that translators assimilated to gendered language styles even when in mismatch to their own gender. This challenges predominating views on language style as fixed and fosters a more dynamic view of language style as also being shaped by social context.

Abstract:
The research’s objective is to evaluate the differential effect that a metacognitive scaffolding for information web searches has on learning achievement of high school students with different cognitive style in the field dependence and independence dimension and on learning style in the dimension proposed by Honey and Alonso known as CHAEA. One hundred and four students from a school in the city of Bogotá, Colombia participated in the study. The research was quasi-experimental and was conducted with three 10th-grade groups, which worked with three scaffolding versions: fixed, optional, and without scaffolding. A multivariate analysis of covariance established that the fixed scaffolding favored learning achievement. Regarding cognitive style in the field dependence and independence dimension, the findings allow to conclude that the field independent students exhibited better academic performances in the presence of a fixed scaffolding when compared with the field dependent students. In addition, a positive interaction was identified between cognitive style and the scaffolding that drives learning achievement. However, learning style did not have any effect on academic achievement.

Abstract:
This article considers the task of text style transfer: transforming a specific style of sentence into another while preserving its style-independent content. A dominate approach to text style transfer is to learn a good content factor of text, define a fixed vector for every style and recombine them to generate text in the required style. In fact, there are a large number of different words to convey the same style from different aspects. Thus, using a fixed vector to represent one style is very inefficient, which causes the weak representation power of the style vector and limits text diversity of the same style. To address this problem, we propose a novel neural generative model called Adversarial Separation Network (ASN), which can learn the content and style vector jointly and the learnt vectors have strong representation power and good interpretabilities. In our method, adversarial learning is implemented to enhance our model’s capability of disentangling the two factors. To evaluate our method, we conduct experiments on two benchmark datasets. Experimental results show our method can perform style transfer better than strong comparison systems. We also demonstrate the strong interpretability of the learnt latent vectors.

Abstract:
Face-to-face education continues to present benefits in terms of student motivation, even though in COVID-19 scenario, online education has been the model of choice. In addition to the traditional face-to-face style, the intensive face-to-face style remains, which allows greater flexibility for the student. The objective of this study was to compare both educational styles and build an organizational model to improve student satisfaction. Two-way general linear model (GLM) with educational styles and satisfaction as fixed factors and discriminant analysis was applied. The selection of the most discriminant variables was made applying the F of Snedecor, Wilks’-Lambda, and the 1-Tolerance. A discriminant model was built. The four variables with the highest discriminant power were problem-solving communication with students’ representatives and shared knowledge and goals with lectures in the intensive style and frequent communication with administrative officers in the traditional style. In addition, it was found that greater face-to-face attendance did not imply greater coordination and that intensive style students show greater satisfaction. The appropriate duration of face-to-face education can contribute to the design of an innovative hybrid system in the future.

Full text
Abstract:
The diversity of wing morphologies in birds reflects their variety of flight styles and the associated aerodynamic and inertial requirements. Although the aerodynamics underlying wing morphology can be informed by aeronautical research, important differences exist between planes and birds. In particular, birds operate at lower, transitional Reynolds numbers than do most aircraft. To date, few quantitative studies have investigated the aerodynamic performance of avian wings as fixed lifting surfaces and none have focused upon the differences between wings from different flight style groups. Dried wings from 10 bird species representing three distinct flight style groups were mounted on a force/torque sensor within a wind tunnel in order to test the hypothesis that wing morphologies associated with different flight styles exhibit different aerodynamic properties. Morphological differences manifested primarily as differences in drag rather than lift. Maximum lift coefficients did not differ between groups, whereas minimum drag coefficients were lowest in undulating flyers (Corvids). The lift to drag ratios were lower than in conventional aerofoils and data from free-flying soaring species; particularly in high frequency, flapping flyers (Anseriformes), which do not rely heavily on glide performance. The results illustrate important aerodynamic differences between the wings of different flight style groups that cannot be explained solely by simple wing-shape measures. Taken at face value, the results also suggest that wing-shape is linked principally to changes in aerodynamic drag, but, of course, it is aerodynamics during flapping and not gliding that is likely to be the primary driver.

Abstract:
This study aims to understand the effects of climbing style (hands on rungs vs. hands on rails), ladder pitch and bank, and carrying objects on hand and foot forces. An instrumented ladder was constructed to OSHA 1910.27 Fixed Ladder Standards. Hand and foot forces were recorded for six male and six female subjects as they ascended and descended the ladder. Although significant inter and intra subject climbing styles were observed for rung and rail climbing, it is still possible to draw important conclusions about the effects of climbing style, ladder pitch and bank, and carrying objects up and down ladders. Most of the work to ascend and descend the ladder is performed with the lower limbs. The hands must constantly exert force to prevent falling from a vertical ladder. Less hand force was exerted on the rails than on the rungs. Hand placement during rung climbing is constrained by rung spacing, while hand placement during rail climbing is determined by climber preference. It can be shown that required hand force is related to vertical hand placement and body center of mass position. Even though less resultant hand force was exerted during rail climb, the lateral component of hand force was greater for rail climbing than for rung climbing. Lateral hand forces may tend to destabilize the climber from the center of the ladder. Tilting the ladder forward reduces hand forces, which is consistent with the biomechanics of climbing and with previous studies. Tilting the ladder laterally did not significantly affect peak hand and foot forces, but it did affect the observed load/unload cycle time for hand and foot climbing movements.

Abstract:
Jypp, Dompa and Jackson Pollock: Narratives on place, urban vernaculars, and upper class at a prestigious upper secondary school. Labelling a linguistic style by appointing it to certain groups of speakers and where they live can be a deeply problematic enterprise as both identities, language use and space become fixed and limited. In Sweden the speech style called Rinkeby Swedish (RS) has become an icon of ethnic Otherness, educational failure, and of an aggressive sexist and homophobic masculinity – ascribed to a fixed locality in the outskirts of the big cities. In this paper we have turned our gaze towards a place that have typically not been associated with RS before: a Stockholm elite school. The analysis reveals how a group of students, illustrated by how the participant Wille, perform authenticity and indexically anchor their linguistic practices and epistemics in various linguistic contexts. In a case study, we explore how the participants talk about and use not one but many different linguistic styles. We argue that the participants employ these styles as resources to comment on locality as well as social hierarchies in the school and the society at large.

Abstract:
Recommending learning resources to students according to their respective learning style is conductive to improving learning efficiency, and the clustering and classification of learning resources conduce to reducing learning resource redundancy and duplication and increasing learning resource utilization. However, available methods of learning resource recommendation usually regard students’ learning styles as fixed and invariable, which apparently contradicts reality and may have a negative influence on students’ learning effect. In view of this matter, this paper aims to propose a novel methodology for clustering online learning resources based on student learning style. At first, the specific steps of the new clustering method were given, and a Sharpe model was adopted to analyze the invalid exposure of students’ learning effect and identify students’ learning styles. The learning style coefficient of students was regarded as a dynamic systemic state, which was estimated by the Kalman filter. Then, the Affinity Propagation Clustering (APC) algorithm was adopted to cluster learning resources based on a student learning style distance matrix, and a model of recommended online learning resource combinations was established based on the proposed method. At last, experimental procedures, including learning style evaluation, pretest exam score prediction, posttest exam score prediction, and data analysis, were described in detail, and the validity of the proposed method was verified by experimental results.

Abstract:
Style is a reference language that has its own vocabulary, fixed combinations, sentences, and syntactic devices, and is a linguistic system that differs from other types in its internal elements, mainly expressive features. Elements of a particular style are easier to identify when they differ from other style elements. For example, the style of parables, the style of folk epics, the style of speech, the style of newspaper language, the style of office, the book style, the style of literature, the style of science, the style of science and technology, the style of publicism, the style of speech, the style of written speech style, etc. Style is a set of basic, typical ideological and artistic features of a writer's work that are repeated in his works. All of these must have their own alternatives in the translation. One cannot be replaced or substituted for another. In this article we discuss about information colloquial style in English and it's translation problems into Uzbek.

Abstract:
Background. Little is known about how continuation and maintenance cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) influences important psychological constructs that may be associated with long-term outcome of major depressive disorder. The goal of this study was to examine whether CBT would help maintain attributional style changes experienced by patients during acute phase fluoxetine treatment.Method. Three hundred and ninety-one patients with major depressive disorder were enrolled in an open, fixed-dose 8 week fluoxetine trial. Remitters to this acute phase treatment (N=132) were randomized to receive either fixed-dose fluoxetine (meds only) or fixed-dose fluoxetine plus cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT+meds) during a 6-month continuation treatment phase. The Attributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ) was completed by patients at three time points – acute phase baseline, continuation phase baseline and continuation phase endpoint. Analysis of covariance was used to compare continuation phase ASQ composite score changes between groups.Results. Patients in both treatment groups experienced significant gains in positive attributional style during the acute phase of treatment. Continuation phase ASQ composite change scores differed significantly between treatment groups, with the CBT+meds group maintaining acute phase positive attributional style changes, and the meds only group exhibiting a worsening of attributional style. The two treatment groups did not significantly differ in rates of relapse and final continuation phase visit HAMD-17 scores.Conclusions. In this sample, the addition of CBT to continuation psychopharmacological treatment was associated with maintenance of acute treatment phase attributional style gains. Further research is needed to evaluate the role of such gains in the long-term course of depressive illness.

Abstract:
There exist debates about “poetry” and “prose” styles in the translations of Shakespeare’s works continuously, and there are the circumstances of one sticking to its own style, partializing and belittling the other. The “verse” school of Shakespeare translation maintains that Shakespeare’s original plays are verse, unique to 16th and 17th-century English poetic dramas (blank verse), which does not rhyme but has a distinct rhythm different from that of prose, typically an iambic five steps per line, capable of both impounding and crooning. Even the prose part of Shakespeare’s plays is also rhythmless verse, which can go into the realm that prose cannot go into. But some point out that translating Shakespeare’s works should base on the principle that “there is no fixed style, but a general style” the “general style” can have different expression styles under the concession of a certain style and the subjects, contents and the different characters of the translators. Besides, the early Shakespearean works were written in blank verse, and in the middle and late periods, they were written in prose. There are also other styles and variants, for example, the “prose-verse-couplet” in Timon of Athens and “syneathetic rhyme” in Winter’s Tale. Consequently, the translations of Shakespeare’s works should be “there is the beauty of poetry and fluency of the prose; meanwhile, poetry and prose should be combined.” Poetry and prose should permeate and converge. “The translations should not hold shape and lose the true conditions, mud the skin and misplace the temperament.”

Abstract:
Active Directory is the default security management system for Windows domain networks. We study the shortest path edge interdiction problem for defending Active Directory style attack graphs. The problem is formulated as a Stackelberg game between one defender and one attacker. The attack graph contains one destination node and multiple entry nodes. The attacker's entry node is chosen by nature. The defender chooses to block a set of edges limited by his budget. The attacker then picks the shortest unblocked attack path. The defender aims to maximize the expected shortest path length for the attacker, where the expectation is taken over entry nodes. We observe that practical Active Directory attack graphs have small maximum attack path length and are structurally close to trees. We first show that even if the maximum attack path length is a constant, the problem is still w[1]-hard with respect to the defender's budget. Having a small maximum attack path length and a small budget is not enough to design fixed-parameter algorithms. If we further assume that the number of entry nodes is small, then we derive a fixed-parameter tractable algorithm. We then propose two other fixed-parameter algorithms by exploiting the tree-like features. One is based on tree decomposition and requires a small tree width. The other assumes a small number of splitting nodes (nodes with multiple out-going edges). Finally, the last algorithm is converted into a graph convolutional neural network based heuristic, which scales to larger graphs with more splitting nodes.

Abstract:
The most used approaches for distributed application integration are based on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural styles. Each is more adequate to a different class of applications and exhibits advantages and disadvantages. This paper not only shows that they are dual architectural styles, SOA oriented towards behavior (services) and REST towards state (structured resources), but also contends that it is possible to combine them to maximize the advantages and to minimize the disadvantages. A new architectural style, Structural Services, is proposed and described. Unlike REST, resources are not constrained to offer a fixed set of operations and, unlike SOA, services are allowed to have structure. To minimize resource coupling, this style uses structural interoperability based on the concepts of structural compliance and conformance, instead of schema sharing (as in SOA) or standardized and previously agreed upon media types (as in REST).

Abstract:
Australia’s fixed broadband services performance and takeup is continuing to fall behind other comparable countries in international benchmarks. This is despite broadband being a hot topic of debate at three Federal Elections and the creation of a new broadband utility company by the Australian Government. The recent change of government, in 2013, prompted reviews into the structure of Australia’s fixed telecommunications market. A move away from utility style broadband to infrastructure competition has been recommended but the Australian Government has not embraced such a move, preferring instead to keep the utility structure for fixed broadband. While the new Coalition Government is investing in more fibre infrastructure as part of its Multi Technology Mix, there is no commitment to build a ‘deep fibre’ network that would have ‘natural monopoly’ characteristics. Competition from new technologies, wireless and fixed, may limit the financial viability of the utility broadband provider. Indecision about the structure of Australia’s broadband market is likely to continue to retard medium to long term investment in the fibre infrastructure needed to improve Australia’s broadband rankings against its international peers.

Abstract:
The traditional Byzantine music of western and southwestern Romania was a collective music, orally perpetuated as the folklore, a music in which no composers stood out, as they stood out in the orthodox musical culture of Moldova, Muntenia and Oltenia. Regional musical styles of Byzantine tradition were formed in these areas, through a long process of enclavisation for centuries. They are the result of the inter-influence of Byzantine music with the folklore and with the Western music culture imposed through the school. One of these sub-zonal styles from southwestern Romania is the style preserved in the Arad area, fixed on scores by the church school teacher Trifon Lugojan. Our present volume, entitled Anastasimatar arădean2, published in 2021 at Eurostampa Publishing House in Timişoara, is based on the repertory selection on criteria of representativeness of the church musical style of Byzantine tradition in the Arad area, made after the analysis of the anthologies of church music written by Trifon Lugojan. For the first time in the south-west of the country, the musical notation of the Arad style is also made by transcribing in the usual psaltic musical notation in the Romanian Orthodox Church, the songs being written in two parallel systems of musical notation – psaltic and western.

Abstract:
"Church music of Transylvanian tradition expresses itself through the two quintessential styles, one through the voice and one through the text. The musical variants are recorded for the first time in musical notation by Dimitrie Cunțanu, in the year 1890, they also have a singed recording, which is still the today standard. The Lord’s Birth Troparion represents a good example of the music style in Transylvania. Fixed in musical notation and singed in most churches around here, this one met the most fixes and “repairs” out of them all and because of this today we have numerous versions of it. On another note, the musical double use, liturgical and ceremonial, it made it that this song to become the musical model which the church singers use when they want to sing without a noted song or book from which they are regulated. The multiple musical variants that exist nowadays demonstrate the presence of common background music, from which the ones that wrote the songs a long time ago and the today singers inspired themselves and sing like that today. The songs analyzed show us the value of the song variants ensemble, which together mark a singing style in the local zone. Full text
Abstract:
Super-resolution reconstruction is a critical task in remote sensing image classification, and generative adversarial networks (GANs) have emerged as a dominant approach in this field. Traditional generative networks often produce low-quality images at resolutions like 256 × 256, and current research on single-image super-resolution typically focuses on resolution enhancement factors of two to four (2×–4×), which do not meet practical application demands. Building upon the framework of StyleGAN, this study introduces a dual-style controlled super-resolution reconstruction network referred to as DSpix2pix. It uses a fixed style vector (Style 1) from StyleGAN-v2, generated through its mapping network and applied to each layer in the generator. And an additional style vector (Style 2) is extracted from example images and injected into the decoder using AdIn, enhancing the balance of styles in the generated images. DSpix2pix is capable of generating high-quality, smoother, noise-reduced, and more realistic super-resolution remote sensing images at 512 × 512 and 1024 × 1024 resolutions. In terms of visual metrics such as RMSE, PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS, it outperforms traditional super-resolution networks like SRGAN and UNIT, with RMSE consistently exceeding 10. The network excels in 2× and 4× super-resolution tasks, demonstrating potential for remote sensing image interpretation, and shows promising results in 8x super-resolution tasks.

Abstract:
A special final coalgebra theorem, in the style of Aczel (1988), is proved within standard Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory. Aczel's Anti-Foundation Axiom is replaced by a variant definition of function that admits non-well-founded constructions. Variant ordered pairs and tuples, of possibly infinite length, are special cases of variant functions. Analogues of Aczel's solution and substitution lemmas are proved in the style of Rutten and Turi (1993). The approach is less general than Aczel's, but the treatment of non-well-founded objects is simple and concrete. The final coalgebra of a functor is its greatest fixedpoint.Compared with previous work (Paulson, 1995a), iterated substitutions and solutions are considered, as well as final coalgebras defined with respect to parameters. The disjoint sum construction is replaced by a smoother treatment of urelements that simplifies many of the derivations. The theory facilitates machine implementation of recursive definitions by letting both inductive and coinductive definitions be represented as fixed points. It has already been applied to the theorem prover Isabelle (Paulson, 1994).

Abstract:
The formation and enhancement of children’s sense of community was specified in the revised curriculum in 2009, and creative experiential activities as well as subjects are being utilized in schools’ intentional plans. However, not all learning occurs through deliberate planning; unintended hidden curriculum may exist. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of teachers’ permissive and authoritarian instructional styles based on children’s sense of community as hidden curriculum and the interacting effects of children’s home background and instructional styles. This study set up a research model based on the emergence process o fthe self and mind, i.e., the sense of community presented in Mead's symbolic interaction theory. This study uses longitudinal data from the 4th and 6th grades of elementary school to control the endogeneity of instructional styles measured through children’s responses, and the fixed effect model was applied to increase the possibility of causal explanations. The analysis in this study shows that a teacher’s permissive instructional style significantly improves the child’s sense o fcommunity, and there is a significant interaction effect between a teacher’s permissive instructional style and the child’s social background. However, an authoritarian instructional style was found to significantly reduce a child’s sense of community. The building of children’s sense of community by the teacher’s choice of instructional styles is not perceived by the teacher because it is not intended, and therefore, it can be said to be a hidden curriculum. The results of this study were interpreted based on the symbolic interaction theory.

Abstract:
Recently, arbitrary text style transfer (TST) has made significant progress with the paradigm of prompt learning. In this paradigm, researchers often design or search for a fixed prompt for any input. However, existing evidence shows that large language models (LLMs) are prompt-sensitive and it is sub-optimal to apply the same prompt to any input for downstream TST tasks. Besides, the prompts obtained by searching are often unreadable and unexplainable to humans. To address these issues, we propose an Adaptive Prompt Routing (APR) framework to adaptively route prompts from a human-readable prompt set for various input texts and given styles. Specifically, we first construct a candidate prompt set of diverse and human-readable prompts for the target style. This set consists of several seed prompts and their variants paraphrased by an LLM. Subsequently, we train a prompt routing model to select the optimal prompts efficiently according to inputs. The adaptively selected prompt can guide the LLMs to perform a precise style transfer for each input sentence while maintaining readability for humans. Extensive experiments on 4 public TST benchmarks over 3 popular LLMs (with parameter sizes ranging from 1.5B to 175B) demonstrate that our APR achieves superior style transfer performances, compared to the state-of-the-art prompt-based and fine-tuning methods. Abstract:
Abstract The overriding theme of the conference honoring Bob Cooter and his work is the question whether law and policy can change people’s preferences. The conventional “law and economics” answer is “no.” People have preferences that are fixed. What changes in law and policy do is to change how people behave by altering the costs and benefits people face in pursuit of their preferences. Put simply, the assumption of the “law and economics” model is that people respond to financial incentives by changing how they act, not what they want. So, to take a simple example, imagine two people at the same starting point, both wanting to drive separately to visit a mutual friend. Their preference to get there promptly and safely is common to both of them, but how they act in pursuit of that goal may well differ. Moreover, government can alter how they drive to their friend’s by making changes such as putting in a freeway, or adding a new lane to the road, or installing lots of new traffic signals or stop signs along one route. The two people may have driven different routes previously, and they may alter their driving strategy in response to the policy changes government has adopted and may still decide that different routes are better for them. But they do not change their desire to see their friend in a prompt and safe manner. In this Article I offer a counterexample — an instance in which changes in law and policy can not only alter the behavior of some with fixed preferences, but also can impact the preferences of others. My example is about changes in society that can alter parenting style (of those parents with a fixed preference to have their children succeed) and can also change the underlying preferences that those children have as to how their lives should play out.

In other words, the fact that certain jazz styles came after others does not unquestionably mean that jazz history followed a fixed course dictated by the perceived inevitability of artistic "progress." Although it is important for jazz history students to have a foundational understanding of jazz history in a chronological fashion, presenting history on a straightforward, simplistic timeline defined by distinct style periods is not the only way to teach the music of the past. There may be significant merit in reorganizing the way jazz history is sometimes presented. Musicians, albums, and style movements could be grouped together and studied according to thematically broad abstract topics to stimulate student engagement, independent thinking, and impassioned discussion. Examples include organizing jazz history curricula into nonsequential subjects such as jazz and politics, jazz and gender, jazz and racial identity, jazz and economics, jazz and the government, jazz and authenticity, and jazz and technology.

Abstract:
Based on data of China's open equity and partial equity hybrid green funds from 2018 to 2022, this paper conducts the sharp style analysis model to construct green fund style drift indicator, and apply the TM model to construct stock selection and timing indicators. Moreover, this paper constructs a panel fixed-effect model to empirically analyze the impact of green fund style drift, stock selection and timing on green fund performance. This research finds that there is a drift of investment style in green funds. Such style drift and timing have a negative impact on the performance of green funds. Stock selection has a significant positive impact on green funds. Furthermore, this research introduces style drift, stock selection and timing indicators into green fund performance evaluation, and use principal component analysis method to build a green fund performance-evaluation system. Then, this paper applies the rating system to the existing green fund market and effectively supplements the existing rating system.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The growth of the investment funds industry in Brazil and its international representativeness indicate the relevance of analyzing this sector. Literature has shown the effects that market factors can have on the performance of investment funds. One way of evaluating the relation between funds' returns and market factors' variations is the return-based style analysis. In this context, this research aimed to investigate, through the style analysis, the exposition to various market factors in two modalities of investment funds. With this analysis, we may infer differences between the allocations and the composition of portfolios, constructing a panorama of sensitivity of funds' returns to the market factors addressed in the study. The database consisted of daily returns of 508 funds, out of which 385 are fixed income funds and 123 are Neutral Long & Short multimarket funds, within the period from January 3, 2005, to July 11, 2014. Through the style analysis, with 6 market factors, we found a difference between the composition of portfolios of multimarket funds and portfolios of fixed income funds. Regarding the evolution of the composition of portfolios in these funds, we observed that the investment style of funds does not seem to be constant over time, something which may be a positive evidence concerning the changes that managers promote in their portfolios, seeking to achieve better profitability indicators.

Yu, Cuihong, Cheng Han, and Chao Zhang. "Multi-Source Training-Free Controllable Style Transfer via Diffusion Models." Symmetry 17, no. 2 (2025): 290. https://doi.org/10.3390/sym17020290.

Abstract:
Diffusion models, as representative models in the field of artificial intelligence, have made significant progress in text-to-image synthesis. However, studies of style transfer using diffusion models typically require a large amount of text to describe semantic content or specific painting attributes, and the style and layout of semantic content in synthesized images are frequently uncertain. To accomplish high-quality fixed content style transfer, this paper adopts text-free guidance and proposes a multi-source, training-free and controllable style transfer method by using single image or video as content input and single or multiple style images as style guidance. To be specific, the proposed method firstly fuses the inversion noise of a content image with that of a single or multiple style images as the initial noise of stylized image sampling process. Then, the proposed method extracts the self-attention mechanism’s query, key, and value vectors from the DDIM inversion process of content and style images and injects them into the stylized image sampling process to improve the color, texture and semantics of stylized images. By setting the hyperparameters involved in the proposed method, the style transfer effect of symmetric style proportion and asymmetric style distribution can be achieved. By comparing with state-of-the-art baselines, the proposed method demonstrates high fidelity and excellent stylized performance, and can be applied to numerous image or video style transfer tasks.
