Abstract:
In recent decades, the flexibilisation of the labour market has grown. The number of permanent contracts has decreased whereas flexible work relations have increased. For example, in 2003 there were 5,7 million permanent employees and more than 1 million flexible employees in The Netherlands. In the first quarter of 2018, the number of permanent work relations is 5,3 million and the number of flexible work relations is almost 2 million. In addition, there are more than 1 million self-employed entrepreneurs without personnel. As a result, the ‘flexible layer’ is almost 40%. Working on a flexible contract poses risks for the well-being of the flex workers, but also for organizational performance. It is only one of the flexibility measures an organisation can use. This applied research article aims to inform readers about alternative measures.1 How can organisations achieve the required flexibility while at the same time ensuring the well-being of the employees? Stories from practice are shared and the role of HR is discussed.

Ardesjö, Ida, and Johanna Svenborn. "Flexibel skolstart." Thesis, Stockholm University, The Stockholm Institute of Education, 2007. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:su:diva-7706.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
This report will be presenting the Bachelor of Science Thesis performed in the area of Technical Design completed during the spring of 2020. The project was performed at the Royal Institute of Technology. The goal with this project was to develop a flexible ladder, especially adjusted for commercial use at home, with the purpose to cater for the needs for the targeted group regarding the use of a ladder in stairs. The project started with an analytical phase where information regarding customer needs, market and standardized measurements as well as information about relevant regulations were gathered. This phase resulted in a technical list of demands which the result of the project would have to meet. The list of demands and all other information from the analytical phase generated three concepts which in different ways each met the specified requirements. The first concept, the Telescope, was a solution which through a telescopic mechanism managed to minimize its size in a very efficient way. Next concept, named Rails, used stepless adjustment of the length of its legs. The concept was with this technique able to place in which ever stair, no matter its dimensions, and featured a climb where the user would climb in the direction of the stair, instead of the other way, which is the common way to climb a ladder in a stair for the time being. The third concept, the Attachment, was based in the idea that the user would already have a ladder at home, and only needed a complementary addition which would enable use of the ladder in the stairs. The winning concept became concept number two, Rails, which ensured that the user could climb the ladder in a safe and secure way. The components of this concept were further developed to cater for the user’s physical, cognitive and emotional needs in a way to ensure that the specifications of needs were met.

Carlsson, Daniel, and Johan Dvärsäter. "Flexibel Fysisk Distribution." Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Management and Economics, 2001. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-857.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Nyckelord: oregelbundna arbetstider, flexibelt arbete, flexibel arbetstid, psykosocial
This study carried out in a northern municipality highlights a group of fifteen municipal employees' experiences of working hours whose scheduling was carried out using time-care system in comparison with a group of seventeen municipal employees who had fixed schedule and the heroma-wishful scheduling system. The survey conducted by quantitative method aimed at a sample of employees in a northern municipality see experiences of working placement with and without time care regarding variability (employer's schedule control) and / or flexibility (the individual's freedom and independence). Thirtytwo respondents answered the questionnaires. The results showed significant that respondents with time-care experienced more of overcommitment, less potential for predictability over a month, less fair leadership and to work more affecting their leisure time than respondents with fixed schedule and the heroma-wishful scheduling system. The results also showed that the staff with fixed/heroma-wishful scheduling system experiences less of overcommitments, more in control of the pace of work, and a higher degree of predictability and that they experienced more equitable leadership than a norm group which can highlight the benefits of wishful schedule. Full text
Abstract:

Konstruktionen blir tät eftersom jalusins sidokanter sitter 10 cm in under fasaden.

The objective of this project is to develop a solution that makes it possible to design windows and buildings in different styles and still be able to build according to the principles of energy-houses. A red cottage with white corners and windows that look the same in all directions is an example.

In low-energy-houses are walls, floors and roof very well insulated; they have a very low U-value. Windows and doors, that have a relatively high U-value, break this climate shell, which makes them critical points for energy leaks. Windows give rise to desired and undesired energy flows, such as daylight, heat loss, radiant heat and air exchange. In energy-houses it is particularly important to be able to control these flows to achieve comfort and minimize energy losses.

The project resulted in IsoSol, an exterior roller shutter that is rolled up above the window and hidden in the wall structure when not in use. A flexible solar control that in its closed position are an effective darker and insulator as a result of material choice and enclosed sides. IsoSol is made up of a combination carpet composed of impenetrable fabric and needle felt. In order to not make the house look closed from the outside there are horizontal bars of foamed polyurethane with wooden structure on the outer fabric. The construction is reducing the leaks because the side edges are integrated 10 centimetres underneath the facade. An automatic control of when to open and when to close and time-programming is possible by the use of a motor from Somfy Home Motion.

IsoSol gives the construction of the window a U-value of 0,31 W/m2K, compared to 0,98 W/m2K entirely the window, and a g-value, measurement of the solar transmittance, close to zero, 54 % without IsoSol. The solution suits all kinds of windows, protects the window and provides increased protection against break-ins.

Gustafsson, Carolina, and Slavisa Mekic. "Flexibel mätcell inom flygplansmontering." Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Mechanical Engineering, 2005. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-3681.

Full text
Abstract:

Saab Aerostructures in Linköping develops and manufactures aero structures. Before these are delivered to the customer they have to be verified through a final control and at the time for this study the final control is performed in a control jig. These control jigs are specific for each product and they are very expensive to manufacture and to maintain.

This study handles the opportunities with introducing a measuring cell and belonging measuring system, instead of using control jigs to perform the final control. By this introduction several profits could be done. An estimate has been done of what the costs would be of using control jigs in two of the coming projects at the company and then this have been put in relation to the costs of investing in a measuring system. By such an investment several revenues could be expected, but unfortunately it has not been possible to value these in this study. Among these revenues it could be mentioned that more products would directly pass the verification and the production would be facilitated, by being able to use the entire tolerance of the product. With the investigated measuring systems flexibility and mobility can be gotten unlike using the product specific and fixed control jigs. The work with controlling the products and analysing the measuring data would be reduced and there are many good sides to the fact that all handling of measuring data are computer-aided.

If an investment in a new measuring system is to be made, a Laser Tracker with T-Scan from Leica Geosystems is recommended. That is if the investment can be shown to be profitable with the other revenues taken into account. A calculation has been made which shows that if the other revenues annually total 300 000 SEK, the investment is repaid after three years.

Avdic, Nermin. "Automatisering av flexibel fixtur." Thesis, Linköping University, Assembly technology, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-51989.

Full text
Abstract:

This thesis was conducted at Linköping University and SAAB Aerostructures, Linköping, and focuses on the automation of flexible fixturing in machining applications. At Linköping University a project called "Koofix" is conducted with support from Strategiska stiftelsen and several manufacturing industries including SAAB Aerostructures. The purpose of this project is to develop a more cost-effective, flexible, technique for fixation of workpieces during processing and assembly.

Fixtures are an important part during the machining process, especially if you process the parts with high accuracy. Today a large number of fixtures are used at SAAB and they would prefer to reduce the number of fixtures by using flexible fixtures instead. SAAB uses one fixture for each article and this result in a high fixture cost and it also takes time to design and construct a new fixture.

There are several advantages with using a flexible fixture such as that you can process workpieces with different length, height and thickness in the same fixture. Bigger workpieces takes time to fasten in the fixture because the machine operator must tighten the clamps by hand. By automating the fixture with for example grippers or clamping cylinders the set time would be reduced because the clamping process is automatic.

In this report there is also a mapping of various flexible fixture components such as grippers, clamping cylinders and linear units. These components are quite common today in the processing industry and are also used in fixtures. The idea of flexible components is to provide a more flexible and automated fixture then the currently used at SAAB. These components were also linked to a concept idea and based on this idea, several concepts were sketched. The result of the concept idea was two concepts that were generated in the CAD program CATIA.

The first concept uses grippers for the clamping process and for additional flexibility the grippers can also be rotated with rotary actuators. Linear units are used to automatically position the beams to reduce the set time. The second concept uses clamping cylinders and rotary grippers to clamp the workpiece. Beams are positioned by an operator, but linear units could also be used in this concept as well.

Finally, the concepts were evaluated according to a method from Ullman with a so called decision matrix. The concept that fulfilled the criteria best was concept 1, which uses grippers and linear units. Another method that was used from Ullman was a QFD (Quality Function Deployment) chart and this chart shows the design requirements that are important and that should be fulfilled.

The components that are presented in this report have not been tested. This could be a suggestion in an upcoming work to test these components. For example the pneumatic linear units with passive or active brake could be tested to make sure that the braking force is sufficient.

Abstract:
Abstract In the last years modeling, simulation, and control of flexibel structures have made an essential progress, especially stimulated by the requirements of space operations. For this working field, flexible lightweight robots can enhance the work space of space robots very well, if the length of the robot arm is variable. Contributions in the corresponding literature mostly consider models of special configurations and perform simple approximations or even assume linear models to describe the elastic motions of the robot. However, especially in the case of lightweight robots undergoing large reference motion, its nonlinear dynamic behaviour should be modeled as exact as possible. The mechanical system should be controlled to improve its dynamical behaviour. Unfortunately, it is not possible to measure the position of the endeffector. The only measurements that can be done are that of the strains of the beam. The control input should be the velocity (translational and rotational) transmitted to the base of the beam. This includes a correction of the actual path planning values as a kinematical control. Here the specified task is solved in two parts: Firstly, the variable length, the geometric nonlinear beam behaviour and the large reference motion of the driven joint are taken into consideration with a systematic modeling approach in (Söffker, 1995b; Söffker, 1995c). Nonlinear control approaches can often be used only for special classes of problems assumptions have to be made, which cannot be generally fulfilled in practice. Here a new controller is developed which is realizable for on-line applications with the mentioned restrictions. Therefore, in a second part the mechanical plant will be controlled by a new observer-based dynamic compensation scheme. Based on a linear time-invariant model, nonlinear effects and unmodeled dynamics are estimated in a first step by an Proportinal-Integral (PI) observer scheme, whereby the nonlinearities and the effects of the non-considered time-varying parameters etc. are assumed as external disturbances. The used PI-observer (Söffker, 1995a) estimates the states of the system and the external disturbances under some weak assumptions. Using this informations about the external disturbances to the nominal time-invariant system, the task of an extended regulator scheme is to compensate these effects in a second step. Because of the structure of the given mechanical system, usual static disturbance compensation schemes are not useful. Therefore a new dynamic approach is developed, which uses the estimations of the extended observer. The developed method does not depend on the structure of the physical problem and can be also used more generally. This is mainly due to the robustness of the observer-based dynamic compensation scheme. Two examples of a very flexible spatial telescopic robot arm demonstrate the effects of disturbances compensation and control of the elastic vibrations induced by the initial conditions and the reference motion.

Abstract:
Abstract Scheduling problems in manufacturing are large and complex, and there are many constraints. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain the optimal solution within a practical time. If it is necessary to avoid interference between cranes in addition to not violating the operational constraints of each machine, it is difficult to obtain the optimal solution to such scheduling problems in a practical time. For this scheduling problem, we propose a new solution algorithm combining scatter search with path relinking and operation simulation. In this paper, we describe previous research, our target process, the new solution algorithm, and discuss algorithm design methods based on numerical experiments.

In 2020 International Symposium on Flexible Automation. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/isfa2020-9605.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Tool wear is one of the critical issues which deteriorate machining accuracy in ultraprecision machining. However, tool setting errors caused by the change of worn tool during a machining operation should be carefully compensated by identifying the gaps between the ideal tool center point and the actual tool center point, which inevitably lead to low machining efficiency. Because of the long consumption time of actual tool center point detection, this study aims at achieving on-machine shaping of a diamond tool which is commonly used in ultraprecision machining. In the previous study, shaping conditions without tool chipping are investigated by using various shaping materials. Then, in order to create a flank face that is necessary to realize preferable cutting, a pin gauge made of cemented carbide is adopted as the shaper. From the conducted experiments, it is found that the proposed on-machine shaping can create a specific cutting edge and a flank face on an ultraprecision machine tool.

Abstract:
Abstract Workpiece vibration is a crucial issue in machining of thin-walled workpieces because of their large compliance. The workpiece compliance should be considered in setting machining conditions to suppress the vibration. However, the conventional impact test is laborious, and its result depends on the operator’s skill. In this study, an on-machine measurement instrument was developed to measure the compliance of thin-walled workpieces. The developed measuring instrument can be attached to the machine tool spindle for automatic compliance measurement. The workpiece compliance measured by a swept sine excitation using the developed instrument was comparable to the compliance by the conventional impact test.

In 2020 International Symposium on Flexible Automation. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/isfa2020-9607.

Abstract:
Abstract Machined surfaces are judged to determine machining conditions. Quantitative parameters like surface roughness and sensory parameters, such as glossiness, cloudiness, sense of discomfort and so on, of the tester, are used as the criteria. Sensory parameters can be dominant especially in judging mirror surfaces with low surface roughness. Such parameters and their representations, however, depend on each tester’s experience. Consequently, we cannot quantitatively evaluate mirror surfaces considering human sensory parameters. In this research, we aim to classify and quantify sensory parameters, and evaluate mirror surfaces quantitatively. In this report, We analyzed the appearance of the turned surface of an aluminum alloy (A2017) under different cutting conditions, focusing on ‘glossy’ and ‘cloudy’ surfaces. Two testers visually inspected the surfaces. The surface shape was measured with a surface roughness measuring device. Additionally, images of the surfaces were obtained with two different illumination configurations. Consequently, it was expected that fine irregularities on the surface influenced the surface appearance and images. Furthermore, the distribution of the light reflection coefficient was calculated from the measured shape data, based on the Beckmann’s theory on the scattering of electromagnetic waves. Consequently, the sensory evaluation, the surface images and the calculation of the light reflection coefficient provided the same trends and conclusions.

Abstract:
Abstract A five-axis machining center is equipped with a direct drive motor on a rotary axis and is capable of synchronous control, which makes it a feasible tool for quickly and accurately machining complicated three-dimensional surfaces such as propellers and hypoid gears. However, the accuracy of the machined shape and consistency of the freeform machined surface both need to be improved. We developed a method for maintaining the feed speed vector at the milling point by controlling three axes of the five-axis machining center (two linear and one rotary) to improve the quality of the machined surface considering differences in the servo characteristics of the three axes during the actual process. Experimental results showed that using the proposed method with an outside approach path for the machining tool greatly reduced the shape error. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by using a wireless Internet of Things holder to monitor the machining force.

Abstract:
Abstract Human-robot collaboration (HRC) is a challenging task in modern industry and gesture communication in HRC has attracted much interest. This paper proposes and demonstrates a dynamic gesture recognition system based on Motion History Image (MHI) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Firstly, ten dynamic gestures are designed for a human worker to communicate with an industrial robot. Secondly, the MHI method is adopted to extract the gesture features from video clips and generate static images of dynamic gestures as inputs to CNN. Finally, a CNN model is constructed for gesture recognition. The experimental results show very promising classification accuracy using this method.
