Flood risk assessment and management witnessed an extremely significant improvement during the last two decades pro-actively responding to the increasing impact of floods worldwide and to the promulgation of the European Flood Directive 2007/60/EC. In spite of these efforts, the uncertainties associated with all components of flood risk (hazard, exposure and susceptibility) are still high and several open problems still need to be accurately investigated. Global satellite data could potentially aid or replace local urbanization data in such data scarce areas. The increasing risk of river flooding or coastal submersion is already visible through recent events like the storm Xynthia and the floods in the Var department, which caused several dozens of deaths in France. However, the consequences for the population would be much more serious when large cities of hundreds of thousands of people will be partially or totally threatened by floods. 碩士
東海大學
景觀學系
107
Recently, the global extreme climate has become an irreversible trend. The sea level rises, the rainfall intensity increases, and the scale of the typhoon increases. The disasters are becoming more and more serious. Among them, the flooding problem is the most one. Especially for the "Flood-prone Areas ", the probability of flooding and the frequency increase. Water helps people not to live, produce and appreciate, but to be a disaster. To face and slow down such trends, it is necessary to fully understand the natural, human and landscape environment of the base, an

Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) is one of the many municipalities that suffer from flood related disasters. Lack of integration between Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and spatial planning has compounded the disaster risk situation in the municipality. This study sought to investigate the prospects of integrating spatial planning with disaster risk reduction in flood prone areas of GTM. The study is guided by three research objectives. First

A bridge foundation is typically equipped with a large strength, so that inelastic deformations caused by earthquake excitation would occur in the column. However, for bridges located in regions exposed to flood and seismic hazards, pile exposure resulting from riverbed scour reduces the lateral stiffness and strength of the foundation. Once the scour depth exceeds the critical level, the strength of the foundation becomes insuffic

The environmental disasters cause global economies decline and loses of people's lives and property. However, disasters don’t happen evenly. People who live in the area with higher hazard potential may have more experience about the disasters, nevertheless, the disasters nowadays happened under extreme weather, so the past experience and adaptation systems are useless. That’s why the disasters are getting worse and worse.
