Abstract:
A survey of developments in plant taxonomy, floristics, and phytogeography in Greece during 2005 to 2016 is presented. Species diversity in different areas and on different scales is summarised in five maps. A list of new taxa described during this period is provided, together with their type citations and taxonomic comments where relevant; almost all of the taxa are based on Greek plant material.

The development of a microbial population was studied in Mediterranean gilt-head seabream (Sparus aurata, tsipoura in Hellenic) dressed with olive oil, lemon juice, and oregano, inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enteritidis, and stored under a modified atmosphere (MA) of 40% CO2, 30% O2, and 30% N2 or air at 0 ± 1°C. The treatment had bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects on both inoculated pathogens as well as on the autochthonous flora. Brochothrix thermosphacta and pseudomonads dominated the spoilage flora under MA and under air respectively. Shewanella putrefaciens was

This study aimed to evaluate the vase life of floral and vegetative stems of Costaceae and describe their morphological characteristics. To evaluate the vase life of floral and vegetative stems, four and six species were used, respectively. Three cutting stages were established for floral stems. Stems were cut a few days before flower opening at stage 1, upon opening of the first flower(s) (anthesis) at stage 2, and when floral stems showed more than 15 opened flowers at stage 3. However, only two different stages were applied for each species. Floral stems were standardized with 50 cm in leng

Spontaneous fermentation may produce complex and unique wines with geographical designations due to the region-specific yeast flora and variations in must characteristics. The current study focused on the yeast diversity and changes in volatile compounds during the spontaneous fermentation of ‘Karasakız’ grapes from three sub-regions of Çanakkale province, Turkey for two vintages (2019 and 2020). This is the first study on the diversity of autochthonous yeasts during wine fermentation of ‘Karasakız’ variety. Abstract:
A spectacular slump is observed in the Alpine sediments of the Antipaxos Island (Pre-Apulian zone, Western Greece). It can be followed in a zone of about 2000 m, in the eastern coast of the island. The slumped unit exposure length extends for more than 200 m, and is directly overlain and underlain by undeformed strata. The slump has an average thickness of 15 m and is composed, as the surrounding undeformed units, of calcareous mudstones and fine-grained calcareous sandstones. Synsedimentary folds that very often are transformed to contorted beds affect slump sediments. Fold and contorted bed

Abstract Background: Dose-dense sequential chemotherapy based on anthracyclines and taxanes has achieved an 18% reduction of recurrence risk in the adjuvant setting of early breast cancer (BC). However, the optimal chemotherapy schedule and the preferable interval between cycles are still under investigation. Methods: A total of 990 eligible BC patients were randomized to receive either 3 cycles of epirubicin (E,110 mg/m2) every 2 weeks followed by 3 cycles of paclitaxel (T, 200 mg/m2) every 2 weeks followed by 3 cycles of intensified CMF (Control Arm A, E-T-CMF; 333 patients) or three cycles
